Thank you for reading~
I returned to the VVIP room before people saw me. They were focused on the dancers' performance on stage. The song was about to end, and I couldn't be in a crowded place. I didn't want to make small talk with anyone.Enzo opened the door. Two other guests were in the room besides Dustin. They didn't take their eyes off the stage. I sat and watched the dancer's closing moves.“Wow, Sin!” Dustin praised. He clapped his hands. “Your dancer is getting better by the day. They say she's your new dancer. Where did you get a woman as skilled as her?”“You know the rules, Dust. You can't ask about the origin or personal details of the club's dancers. You can only find out from her,” Ralph, my club's VVIP customer, reminded him.“I'm just trying my luck.” Dustin chuckled.“The first two performances were amazing. Are your dancers going to be that good until morning, Sin?” Ralph teased.“Thanks for the compliment,” I replied, not answering his question directly.Enzo took over the conversation.
[Darcy]I should have known I didn't work as a regular dancer at the nightclub. My instructor wouldn't have taught me those seductive moves if I'd worn the same clothes during a performance as during practice. However, I didn't expect the clothes to be that revealing. It wasn't even a dress. The fabric was so skimpy that it only covered a small part of my chest and the part between my thighs. I only wore such clothes when flirting with my husband in our bedroom. How could I dance in such minimal clothing? The audience could see the private parts of my body if I moved even a little. My head suddenly throbbed at the thought of people's eyes staring at me on stage.“What's wrong, Darcy?” Felicia asked, breaking my reverie. “Is there anything I can do for you?”“Um,” I muttered.“She must be shocked to have to wear that outfit on stage,” a woman in the room taunted. “Don't worry. You'll get used to it. Just think about the money you'll make in one performance.”“Aren't you going to introdu
My blood boiled at her threat. I was sick of dealing with everything alone. Being at the club tonight wasn't my choice. My father borrowed so much money. It doubled, and he hadn't paid it back.Without discussing it with me, he made me collateral for the loan. I put my body on display in public because of the urgent situation. That selfish woman shouldn't have used my son to threaten me.However, I hid my anger. I was at a disadvantage. Bridget was influential. She could do anything without being touched by the law. Even though Keane was her grandson, she didn't mess around when she made threats.“You're here,” I stared at her and her bodyguards, “because you know the club owner. Do you think the dancer could easily walk out of this place?”“I don't care about—” Bridget cut in.“Again,” I tilted my head, “I'm dead, Bridget. You want to hurt Keane? Go ahead. Your threats won't get me out of this place or stop me from dancing.”The arrogant woman looked at me intently. “I regret approvi
[Sinclair]My club's employees occasionally had internal issues that caused drama in the workplace. They competed to be the best for higher positions and prestigious perks. It was natural and happened in other worksites. However, it was the first time a new person caused trouble on her first day. Although I knew Darcy was a troublemaker, I thought she needed a job. I didn't realize she had enemies a few hours into the workplace.“This is the footage of Mrs. Channing talking to Darcy, boss,” Neil, my bodyguard, said.I looked at the monitor and smiled as I saw something interesting. “Save this recording and send a copy to my email.”“Yes, boss.” Neil nodded to the man handling the monitor. “This is the footage in the locker room.”The monitor showed a woman entering the room suspiciously. She looked around while approaching a locker. After using something to open the locker, she took a bag, stuck something behind the door, and closed it.After the woman left, other women came and went.
Sean's face paled after hearing my offer. The man might not believe that I would be honest with my words. People like him were used to dealing with blackmail. It wasn't my fault that Bridget couldn't behave herself in public. His wife, on the other hand, was calm. Even so, she was thinking about something inside her head. Bridget shook her head as her husband opened his mouth, wanting to say something to me. The man complied.Their cautious demeanor wasn't a surprise. I would have done the same thing if someone had tried to blackmail me. The difference was I had evidence, and the woman's actions were against the law. I would win if the case went to court.“You're saying you want to sue me with that video? Did you forget who we are?” Bridget asked.“You're Channing,” I replied casually.“You can't touch us, Sinclair,” she said.“Why not? Channing and Wyndham have equal standing in this town. Or do you think you're superior to me?” I challenged her.“We're close to many influential peop
[Darcy]The same car drove me back to the apartment. The man who was my bodyguard followed me into the lobby. He accompanied me in the elevator and left when I was inside my unit. It seemed Sinclair assigned him to keep an eye on me.Of course, he did. He didn't want me to run away before paying my debt in full. That man must not have been in charge of guarding me from the bad guys. That was why he didn't prevent those bad guys from hurting me earlier. I touched my left cheek and felt pain. However, the sting was nothing compared to people's stares when I performed on stage. My whole body trembled, remembering their lustful gazes. I felt like they were squeezing my chest and bottom with their eyes.My knees gave out, and I collapsed to the floor. My eyes heated up, and my chest felt tight. I had never felt so low and shameful in my entire life. I wasn't a virgin, but no man touched me without my permission. They touched me because I wanted it, too. What I felt just then crushed my pri
The dancers made way for the man to enter the room. I was surprised that two women followed him. Our superior's right-hand man walked toward me. The ladies standing before me moved out of the way.“Meryl and Jean have something to say to you,” Enzo said. The two women elbowed each other, telling their friend to start. I was grateful that they had arrived on time. Everyone could see who was at fault in the conflict between us. I didn't have to bother defending myself or clearing my name.“Darcy, I apologize for taking your money and locking you in the practice room last night,” Jean said. She handed me a brown envelope. “This is your money. Please count it. I didn't take a dime.”I hadn't had time to count the money I'd gotten last night. So, I didn't know if she gave it all back or took a few pieces. But I didn't care about that. My money was back. That was the most important thing.“Thank you,” I said, accepting the envelope.“I also apologize for taking your money and locking you in
[Sinclair]Enzo didn't have to wait long to find out the outcome of our bet. Sean came to the club again to get my answer to his request the night before. He even arrived earlier than the twenty-four hours he had set.Since it wasn't the agreed time, I didn't meet him in his room. Sean needed to know I wasn't his subordinate, whom he could order around at will. Although the legitimate mayor was his party mate, that man would be on my side rather than Sean's.I accompanied my VVIP guests in a special room, watching my dancers perform on stage. I had never been interested in their performances, but Darcy was different. Somehow, I couldn't look away when watching her dance before me.Like Felicia said, her body was curvy. The other dancers were more attractive than her physically. Was it her blonde hair and blue eyes that attracted me? No. Some of the strippers also had the same hair and eyes as hers. The strength was that she was prettier than the other dancers. Growing up in a wealthy
[Darcy]I hadn't finished talking to Cullen but had to acknowledge the information regarding the accident. I left the place with a heavy heart and rushed to the car. Scott marched beside me while watching our surroundings. He was being very overzealous. People who wanted to kill me wouldn't wait long to attack me out in the open. They were bluffing. Therefore, they didn't follow me to the restaurant or the cemetery. To avoid a similar assault, I asked to meet Taylor in the city center. I requested that she get into the car. My cousin suggested dinner at one of the restaurants near us, but I declined.“Oh, my God,” she muttered when she saw my face."This is the reason I can't be in public. I've been wearing glasses and a mask all day," I explained.“What happened?” she asked worriedly.“You didn't ask to see me to talk about my situation,” I reminded her."You need to work on your attitude towards people who help you, Darcy. Your arrogant demeanor won't do you any favors at this point
I left the secret corridor for the master room. The scene before me was one that I had witnessed many times and had ingrained in my head well. The chamber was empty. There was no one else but the house owner, who was lying stiffly on the bed.I approached the edge of the bed with my heart pounding and my body trembling. I whispered incessantly, hoping I would find a different state. However, God wasn't on my side. The scene was still the same. The handsome man widened his eyes and opened his mouth. The culprit surprised him but didn't torture him before killing him. However, that one fact didn't ease my anger. Hayward Wyndham was a good man, undeserving of such a horrible death.I closed his eyes and shut his mouth. Dad looked more peaceful with that expression. My eyes heated up. My lips trembled, holding back tears. Lionel held my hand, pulling me to save myself. However, I resisted. I wanted to be with my father for longer.I pulled back the blanket to sleep beside him, but seeing
[Sinclair]I needed shareholders because I couldn't manage such a big company alone. They helped me when I was a new leader by buying shares, giving advice, and sharing their experience in entrepreneurship. However, I wasn't that young Sinclair Wyndham. My horizons were broad and my connections were numerous. I wasn't afraid of anyone's threats because even the biggest shareholders were replaceable. I had many acquaintances who wanted to buy shares in Wyndham Finance.Henry Swan was the largest shareholder after me. He held twenty-five percent while I held fifty-one. I agreed to some of his suggestions out of respect for him as a senior. However, his threats wouldn't deter me."I won't forbid you and the shareholders from withdrawing funds or selling your shares. I'll gladly buy them at their current value. If it's not big enough, I'm willing to add ten percent so you don't lose out," I said.“What did you say?” Henry was surprised by my response. “You don't have enough money to pay my
Bridget intended to cover my mouth with her hand, but Scott grabbed it and pulled it away from me. The woman took a step back. She glared at my bodyguard. All her protectors stood between us.I scrutinized her face. She looked uneasy after I mentioned Karl's name. What did she hide from me about the accident and the whereabouts of my husband's driver? I didn't want to believe it. Bridget and Sean couldn't have harmed their son."Don't make accusations without evidence. I can sue you for defamation." Bridget glanced at the door behind her. "If that's all you want to talk about, leave. Don't ever see me again."“I won't come if you don't interfere with my life,” I shot back.Bridget scoffed. "You're the one who disrupted our lives by flaunting your relationship with your new man shortly after your husband's death. Can't you stay out of our lives?“”You said our relationship was over. Why does everything I do have to do with you? Cullen is dead. There's no rule against me being close to
Scott took cover behind the wall near the entrance. He watched our surroundings as he pulled out his phone. I stood behind him, letting him protect me with his body.I couldn't understand what was happening. Why did Scott pull me back to the lobby and protect me? What hit the pavers earlier? People around the place glanced at us and whispered with the person at their side. Others walked on without paying attention to us.“We can't get to the parking lot,” Scott said to the person on the phone. “Oh. Good.”“What's wrong?” I asked in confusion.“We're going to the car. Rocco's out front.” Scott took my hand and pulled me out.“You haven't answered my question. What's wrong?” I strode at his side.Scott looked around us as he opened the car door for me. “We'll talk later. Hurry up and get in.” He held my head to keep it from hitting the car roof.I sat down, and he closed the door. My heart was pounding. Scott's actions were confusing. He sat in the front seat next to the driver. After h
Dad was pleased when I said goodbye. I bought his favorite food, and the warden let me give it to him. I left that place with a smile, but the visit broke my heart. I couldn't bear to see my parents suffer in prison. They weren't angels. Yes, they were cruel to people they didn't like, but they never sent anyone to beat others. They hurt with words and confronted their enemies directly, not hiding behind a hitman. The culprit was an ignorant coward. I didn't know how to find out the person behind the slanderous prisoner. I couldn't ask the warden to show me the security camera footage or bribe the culprit to confess.“Where to next?” Scott asked when we were in the car.My phone vibrated. “One second.”There was a new message from Taylor. She sent a picture of Jessica meeting a woman I knew. I scoffed. So, she paid that nanny to harm Edith? What a crazy rich woman!I copied the nanny's address and sent it to Scott's number. “Let's go there.”Unfortunately, that woman had moved. She di
[Darcy]I wore a hat, sunglasses, and a mask before exiting the car. Scott followed me to the entrance of the meeting room. I removed my head and face covering at the inspection but put it back on when the officer found out why I was wearing it.I sat down in the available chair. The place was quiet, unlike my visit on Saturday. There was only me in the large room. The door to the room opposite me was open. An officer entered and held the door open for a woman. My heart squeezed tightly at the blue bruises on the woman's cheeks. Her right eye was as red as blood, although it had faded. What prison was it? Why did the guards let another inmate beat up a prisoner every week? My mom could die before finishing her sentence.“Darcy, thank God you came,” Mom sobbed. "I thought you were angry with me and didn't want to come anymore. I'm glad to see you're okay."My eyes heated up, but I refrained from crying. Thankfully, I wore sunglasses. So, Mom couldn't see the water in my eyes. What happ
I had finished breakfast when Darcy came out of the bedroom. She wore all black. Looking at her neat appearance, she was going somewhere. That woman was stubborn. She shouldn't have gone anywhere until her face recovered. However, I allowed her. Although she was mine, I had no right to control her life. Darcy owned her life. No human being liked to be restrained, not even me. She had today off and might have plans that couldn't be postponed.“I've finished eating. Why haven't you told me who ruined my face? Hurry up and tell me,” Darcy urged.I intentionally waited for her to finish eating, so my report wouldn't make her lose her appetite. “Take your medicine. Then, I'll tell you everything.”“You've been—” she protested.“ I mean it this time,” I said.Darcy grumbled as she took the medicine out of the bag. She took one tablet and swallowed it. “Tell me quickly,” she said.“There's a dangerous substance in your powder. The perpetrator mixed it in while you were dressing up, getting r
[Sinclair]I held back my anger vigorously at the redness on Darcy's face. Someone had sown something dangerous into her mask or makeup. That woman must feel so uncomfortable and helpless. She was so frightened to see her reflection in the mirror. The doctor confirmed my guess. Her face's condition wasn't due to a food or drink allergy but the use of unsuitable makeup on her face. From the severity of her skin, harmful substances were mixed with her compact or moisturizer.I left Darcy while the doctor and nurse gave her first aid. I took out my phone from the inside pocket of my jacket. “Ask all the security guards to check Darcy's bag. Either her compact or moisturizer is mixed with a dangerous substance.“Then, have them check the dancers‘ and instructors’ bags and lockers. The culprit must be one of them. Only they know where Darcy's bags and lockers are. Do it neatly. I don't want the guests to see any commotion,” I ordered.“What happened?” Enzo asked.“Darcy's whole face is red
