I didn’t look away from the window view when I heard Lent come into my office. I knew it was him because, well damn, who doesn’t the walk style of his friend who he has known since childhood?

“How is she? Did she like the place?” I asked him, my eyes still stuck to the building which I had purchased in Storm’s name.

The building was right in front of our clan’s premises. That was the only way that I could protect my clan whilst at the same time, keeping an eye on her.

The news that Liam had brought to me two days ago had really unsettled me. This had been the only option left; to keep her near. This way at least, I could kill two birds with one stone.

Storm doesn’t have to know about this. She wouldn’t be able to see the clan either, even if it’s linear to her window view. No one does actually. For all they knew, this ws a forest left to fallow and is inhabited by all kinds wild animals. But if only they knew.

“She is fine, and yes she liked it. I don’t get why you are worke

KADEN“Does Liam know about this yet?” I asked Casper and Lent as I watched with sorrowful eyes as Micheal groaned in pain under Jiraq's ministration on his body. Apart from being a scientist, Jiraq was a good doctor. A very good one.“Not yet. He is still working on discovering the attacker. Should we inform him now?” Casper inquired and I shook my head. “No, it will kill his focus. We need to allow him find the attacker first, or at least get some clues. That is the best way we can get revenge for this.” I said, gritting my teeth as I read aloud in my mind the two words that had been branded on Micheal’s chest. ‘Burnt all.’ The action word is in a past tense, and it made me wonder if another deed related to burning had been done already that I didn’t know about. I had asked Casper and Lent earlier about the state of our companies and other outlets located in different parts of the contry, and internationally but they had reaffirmed that those institutions were all intact. Nothing

KADEN“So, what are you going to do?” That was Casper. He has been pacing from one point in the room to the other, for a while. “He asked you to be there in five minutes. But the drive from here to that side of the state is more than three hours. How in the world are you going to be there in five minutes? The dude must be crazy.” He said, his voice rising at the end of his statement. Lent was still silent. He was sitting on one of the chairs now, his head enclosed in his palms. He must be thinking of the best solution to this.“I don’t know Casper. I guess I should call him back, and ask if he could give me more time. Hopefully, he will be lenient enough to strike a better bargain before ending the call. If he agrees, I will have to go to the place.” I answered, picking up my phone from the floor. It had remained there since it had fallen and everyone had been so concerned about the matter at hand, that none had remembered the communication line. I looked at the phone, contemplating

KADENTwo hours and a few minutes later, I am at the doorstep of my former house. The street was much quieter than usual. Even Storm’s house was too eerily calm. It was like a zombie town at day time. There was nothing in sight. What had happened in just two days that I was away from here? Did the plague occur? I wondered, tuning the knob of the front door. There was a creak sound before it opened up. I walked in slowly into the house, my eyes running a marathon tro and fro, to every corner of the sitting room. There was no life in sight. Where was the caller? Where was Liam? Where was his mate, Kim? Taking a slower look around and seeing nothing significant, I decided to check out the rooms in the lower level before walking upstairs. I thought of calling the man then, but I changed my mind, deciding to choose the element of surprise even though I doubted that my coming was a surprise. For all I know, they might have had some men stationed outside that might have seen me pull up a

KADEN“Your friend would be better in a week hopefully, although I am surprised that he isn’t healing faster. Perhaps they had used a silver vested blade to slash him.” That was Jean, two hours and thirty minutes later. Lent was beside me, standing and staring down at the still unconscious Liam, who had not even stirred or batted his eyelashes despite the rigorous dressing that Jean had done on him.Lent had gotten here in a record time. I don’t think it's necessary to know how fast he drove, and how many traffic rules he had disobeyed. Well, anything could go, since the cops weren't after him. “Is it okay to move him away fom here?” I asked Jean, but the doctor shook his head. “Probably tomorrow. Any sharp movement now would trigger the bleeding which will soak the bandages again.” He answered and I nodded my head, seeing reason. It meant that one of us had to stay back here tonight, or probably the both of us. I dout Lent will find it favorable leaving I and and an injured Liam a

KADENWhen I was done narrating Casper’s tale, Lent sighed, mute, not knowing what to say. “We are going to have to stay here only for tonight, and head back tomorrow morning, afternoon or evening. Hopefully, Liam would be better enough to be moved. Casper can take care of Jacob.” I said, tapping and holding Lent by the shoulder. “Is this enough to keep your mind away from Storm for a while?” He asked out of the blue, and I nodded, not knowing what else to say. To think that he would believe that I would be thinking of chasing Storm at this perilous time. Did I seem so desperate about having her? I thought, retracing my steps back to the the room where Jean and Liam were.“I will be going now.'' Jean said, picking up his bag. He must have packed it up when I and Lent had taken a stroll downstairs to talk. “How much is your bill?” I asked him, taking out of my phone to run a transfer. But Jean shook his shead. “Don’t worry bout that. I owe Jiraq a favour. This one is on the house. P

At Tensel’s Region.Damonq fed well, knowing he was heading for a fight. The lair that had been found was a good distance from the compound, in the State Park. There were more than one hundred miles of hiking trails. Camping sites and picnic areas made it a smorgasbord for demons.Up in the highest peak, a crack appeared in a large jutting boulder. It was barely a half of an inch wide, but ran about five feet long in a jagged pattern almost to the very foot of the boulder. He stood facing it, the other ancients spreading out, feeling the air, the ground, listening and scanning. There was a compulsion embedded in the rock face that warned people away from the area. Anyone feeling it would just turn and leave. That had alerted Andor to the fact that the lair had to be close.Anywhere one went in a forested area, there was the continual drone of insects. Here, it was eerily silent. There was a feeling of impending violence, of an unseen watcher. The ground shifted subtly under his feet,

Damonq was grateful he had the ability to find humor in everything again. He’d forgotten humor and how much it could change one’s mood. Sandu was telling them all the strict truth. A fact. But the play on words made it humorous without the ancient meaning it that way.I sent for the others. Sandu added. I had forgotten what it was to chase the beast, and a war is shaping up here.I did as well, Andor admitted. The others nodded and Damonq had to smile. He had also sent for the others in the brotherhood. It scares me that we all think alike. We’ve been together too long, Ferro pointed out with a small shrug.Danonq got back to the task at hand. They always used the first safeguard, Alycrome taught us. Alycy had been the high mage for many years before Xavi, his son, had taken over. Alycy had insisted they follow their instincts and develop safeguards of their own, but many had problems completing that task. I’ve got something, Afansiv said.Damonq stopped moving forward. He materialized beside him. The two barely fit in the narrow space.Andor streamed past them. I’ll check out the rest of this passageway and come back.Damonq concentrated on the fissure in the floor. It had been there for centuries. No monster had constructed it, but they could easily have taken advantage of it. Even though they were in darkness, with a mountain on top of them, a barrier between him and the sun, he still felt the burn as the sun began its first journey.Let’s get this done. You ready? In answer, Afanasiv waved his hand to open the crack. It widened a mere half inch. As it did, the entire boulder above and around them creaked and groaned. Dirt ran down the sides of the cavern to land on the floor. Damonq was already streaming through the crack, Afanasiv behind him. They were used to traveling in complete darkness. They were used to tons of earth overhead. More, hunting vampires was what they were most co

Storm could feel her heart pounding hard, but it was more out of excitement than fear. She should be afraid, the bird was a true raptor, but it was magnificent. It had black eyes! Round, shiny, very intelligent black eyes. She stared at it for two full minutes. That wasn't normal, she was certain. Very slowly, so she wouldn't startle the creature, she backed across the room to the desk where she kept her phone. Still looking at the bird, she googled the images of the bird, biting her lips intermittently as she waited.Strangely, the bird was observing her just as intently, an intelligence in its gaze as it watched the phone beep occasionally. When the page opened, Storm glanced at the image of the harpy eagle. The eyes were round and shining with intelligence, but they were not black. The eyes in the picture were a bright amber with a black pupil. She let out her breath slowly. Something was wrong with her bird.‘You aren't blind, though, are you?’ She sent the words, not even kno

  • The Mafia Lycan's Obsession    A Big Bird

After Storm was done eating, she thanked Kaden, and let him have the plates when he stretched his hands to collect them. To hold herself from jumping on him, and demanding that he put her out of her sexual misery, she stood up from the bed and sauntered to the window to look at the forest, and clear her immoral thoughts. He had joined her to eat, and for each time his mouth had closed over a morsel of food, she had jerked subtly, as if the mouth was closing over her twin orbs. In a large oak tree, plenty feet away from her, a bird flapped its mighty wings, drawing her attention. A smile swept past her lips when she became aware that she could sight its distinctive features. She was not the same Storm of a month ago. She was different now, considering the amount of trainings she had submitted too.The bird had a round facial disk with a very pronounced ruff. It wasn't an owl but it was large. Very large. The unusual bird could easily weigh at least twenty pounds. She stared at it

Storm walked into Kaden's treehouse and was immediately struck by how it seemed larger than usual. The wooden walls, which should be plain and simple, were adorned with colorful murals and hand-painted designs. One wall even showcased a sprawling mural of a sunset over a peaceful lake, with vivid oranges and pinks blending into each other. And another wall had a charming depiction of a forest, complete with playful animals like squirrels and birds, all brought to life with bright, cheerful colors. The room was filled with natural light that filtered through the large windows, which had been decorated with flowing curtains in soft, earthy tones. The curtains swayed gently in the breeze, adding a sense of movement to the scene. The wooden floor was covered with cozy rugs that added warmth and comfort to the space.A large, comfy bean bag was positioned in one corner, surrounded by soft pillows. Next to it was a small bookshelf brimming with colorful books, their spines lined up neatly

Storm’s mind kept conjuring up provocative images, as she and Kaden walked hand in hand around the clan. The kiss they had shared in her room still tingled on her lips, still kept heat in her blood, still made her hunger for more. She inhaled sharply when Kaden turned and stared at her, his eyes brimming with the emotions that she was sure was playing out in her own mind. For a second, she feared that he might have peeked into her dirty mind, but then she remembered that they were not bonded yet, not in that sense. It brought her swift relief which came with a coating of abashed-ness seen in the coloring of her cheeks and necks, something that wasn’t lost on Kaden who was battling to hold on to his honor. He cussed at himself for closing her lips with his earlier, knowing what could happen from there. But she had been speaking, and her luscious mouth had been like water in a desert land; he had been parched so much that he couldn’t have been able to help himself. And now, the stirr

  • The Mafia Lycan's Obsession    Old Books II

All through the week, Storm only concentrated on the books Kaden had given her, or rather on the first book she had collected from the pile. Jutul had done the same, concentrating on the second book he had picked. Both had only taken breaks when they wanted to eat or when they wanted to train with Casper for an hour. To assuage Kaden’s caveman jealousy, all the reading had been in the dining downstairs, and yet they weren’t close enough to whatever the books were on about. They weren’t close to the end either, and the transcribers were doing a poor job, despite Jiraq’s input sometimes. It was then that Storm had learnt that Jiraq wasn’t done with the book either. ‘What are you doing with one of the hardest books in the pile?” had been his first question when she had solicited for his help. He had gone ahead to pick up a smaller book, written in English, for her and Jutul to start with, but she had declined—she had grown attached to the old book. And she had vowed to bring it to a fi

Storm groaned tiredly; under the full weight of the knowledge she had been absorbing for the past four hours. Kaden had been true to his word, and with the help of Jiraq, had bundled more than thirty books which smelt of oldness into her room this morning, just before she dressed for school. “For those written in old language, Jiraq was kind enough to let you have his transcriber, so that you can better understand it. You can check them out after classes today.” Kaden had said, when he had stepped into her room with a fellow whom she knew went by the name, Micheal, Liam’s younger brother. She had found out right after Liam’s recuperation weeks ago, about the wicked action on the young fellow who didn’t look a year older than her. The first book on the pile had gotten her attention after the duo had left the room, and picking it up, she had decided to peek at a page, then return to her preparation for school. But a page had turned to two pages, and then five pages, until school was

  • The Mafia Lycan's Obsession    An Invocation

Storm was chatting with Lucy and Justin, in their phone group , around a time when she should be sleeping, when she heard her name being droned in her ears. “S-t-o-r-m” She furrowed her eyebrows, and looked around the room she shared with Kaden sometimes. There was no one. The voice sounded familiar, and until she felt the eeriness in the room, she didn’t know who it was. The vampire. She got up from the empty bed, and sauntered toward the door, needing to get to Kaden as soon as possible, but the door wouldn’t budge. She stamped her foot on the floor out of frustration, as fear suddenly took root in her mind and body. Where was he when she needed him? Why hadn’t he spent the night with her? She wondered, never minding that she had been one to ask they sleep on separate beds tonight, after he had returned from his meeting with his people, after she had returned from seeing her friends off with Lent. The voice called for her name again, and she shuddered before she could help it, h

  • The Mafia Lycan's Obsession    Love&Lies

There was a stark naked silence in the room after Jutul’s declaration. So stark was it, that Storm felt her ears ringing with deep silence, deep silence and an unclothed unbelief. They were lying? If she didn’t know of Jutul’s gifts, she would have berated him for speaking against her friends. But she knew. She knew he was telling the truth—there wasn’t a need to lie. And she still was finding it hard to believe. Lucy and Justin had planned a lie, and had come to convince them of it? All for what? To gain information on what was going on in the clan? Was their school even on break? Then, the silence was broken by Kaden’s voice which had descended to a certain chillness that informed Storm that her mate was angry, very angry, at being made a fool of. “Lent, place a call to the school’s authorities, and find out if the school is really on break…” Lucy’s dark laughter interrupted his statement, and brought Storm’s attention to her. “So y’all would rather believe Storm’s newest friend

    Of course they wouldn’t. Storm thought, looking at Lucy squarely for the first time since she had entered the room. Her friend was still bubbling in age-old anger, and was still carrying a grudge against her.And since, Storm knew she couldn’t do much about it—because what Lucy was demanding was unattainable—she let the latter think that she wasn’t bothered by it. It would help with them leaving earlier. Having seen what exactly was at play here, what evil forces were at play here, she wasn’t about to risk the lives of her friends. She wasn’t about to have their blood on her head, because she wanted them to be included in every facet of her life. It was better they thought she was against them; it was better they believed that she didn’t value their friendship.“So, why are you here, Lucy?” She schooled her face to a cold aloofness, unfazed when Justin let out a cuss word, whilst darting a glance between Lucy and her. There was a minute silence, where Lucy scanned Storm’s features;
