I could tell the story of how a top agent had to play the role of maid to spy on one of the most feared Mafia bosses in the world.
“Alfredo De El” I read his name out loud. I had never thought a mission was above me. The intense training it would take to maintain my cover because I couldn't risk getting caught. The moment my cover gets blown it would be the end of the road for me. I stood in front of the board once more looking at each of them eyeball to eyeball. The irony of this mission is was supposed to fail, not to survive, I mean I wasn't the only agent they had sent to try and penetrate the cartel and if I couldn't achieve the goal, I wouldn't be the last.
“Before we set you off to your mission you're going to go through a specific type of training we call armoury”
Greta said, I eyed her with the side of my eye. I hated more than I had ever hated anyone before.
“I don't need any dumb training, I can do this by myself”
I said folded my hands, Greta smirked while I felt a hand pad on top of the angle shoulder of my leather jacket. I turned my head to see who it was before I could recognize his face. I was slammed to the ground with my face hitting the floor. I tried to get up quickly, but I got another blow from the back within a breath. I heard Greta motion them to stop. She walked to me, bent down and said
“Now, can you do it by yourself?”
She giggled as I struggled to get up.
“This was an ambush, you know I can defend myself when the time comes”
I yelled back
“You'll be nothing but meat if your cover gets blown up, you can't even think fast, you've become so lazy. All these easy missions we send you on has got you thinking you're a boss, well I'll clip those wings and teach you how to fly”
My blood boiled, I just wanted to punch her.
“Bring it on, I'll show you I'm made of steel”
I snorted as I made my fists
“And I'll show you I melt steel”
She laughed as she walked out
“training starts tomorrow, do not be late”
The first day was hard but I adapted, from the basic defense skills, to fighting tactics I had picked up and within a week I was kicking my instructor's asses.
“Is this all you've got?”
As I slammed him on the floor for the third time. I heard someone clapping from behind, it was Greta.
“You're doing so well, getting sharper, you'll need it”
“What is it?”
“Someone can't congratulate you again?”
“From you it feels like an insult than a compliment”
“Your hate for me won't get you anyway”
“If you insist”
We exchanged glances, she smirks and I eye her. She drops a file in front of me.
“What is this?”
I ask as I pick up the file and start going through this.
“What does it look like?”
Quickly I drop it on the floor and instantly feel the urge to throw up.
“Brace yourself honey, those are pictures of how you'll look like if you get caught”
I look at her and I'm disgusted.
“I'm going to die”
She dismisses my statement
“The armoury is divided into three parts. First, involves physical, the second is where you'll be taught how to become your disguise and the third which is the last is where you'll be taught how to endure mental pain”
“Answer my question I'm going to die?”
She dismisses me again
Becoming your disguise might not be too cumbersome but you'll still have to go through it and the last part is where pain will come and how you'll be able to control it-”
“Answer my question?”
I yell out loud, she looks at me
“Nobody has ever survived, they always have ways of detecting, who is real and who is not. I don't want you to think of those pictures and quiver, I want you to think of them and be angry, he shows no mercy when he butchers them and neither should you. Tomorrow you start the second phase of your training”
She dismisses me and walks out. Going home I pass to get some coffee because I need to alot research on Alfredo the fear is inevitable but why he butchers them like that makes no sense to me either.
The alarm buzzes me to wake up and then I see Greta in my room, standing beside my laptop as the sun reflects on her grey coat.
“Hurry up J is waiting for us downstairs”
Like I needed to see him today and I lay in bed. I spot J from window and question Greta in the most sarcastic way possible
“Tell me, is this another type of training exercise?”
“He’s going to be your instructor”
Surprising but with a frustrated grin on my face
“So it is another type of training”
The silence in the car enveloped everyone but there wasn't much that needed to be said. I mean What could I possibly want to say to J and Greta after getting me in this position I am. So I break the ice, since I'm the bone of contention
“You know I could be somewhere in Europe traveling and enjoying the beach you know”
They keep quite
“Maybe I could find a very handsome and decide to make babies but instead I'm here going on a suicide mission where I have to pretend to be the maid for two years”
Aggressively, I yell those words out.
“Being emotional will get you nowhere, I've told you this before”
Greta snorts out.
“We're here”
J announces. I take a moment to examine where we are and it's a playhouse theater
“What the fuck is this?”
I say this as I laugh out loud
“Oh my God J. You're really losing touch with reality”
I laugh even harder because I find it amusing that J would bring me to watch a play
“We're not here to watch a play”
“He slams the door. Then what are we here for?”
“You talk too much”
Greta pinches in. We follow J’s lead. The theater looks like any typical playhouse and currently a play is going on as we enter but then J goes back stage and talks with some guys and then we are signaled to come inside. We enter an elevator that takes us to another section of the theater. It looks like a torture room, the chairs are very orthodox and smells like blood. As I look up to observe the room, I feel a pinch on my back I turn and it's Greta injecting me that is the last thing I see before I pass out.
“Don't be ridiculous J, she's our only option”
“Mom, I love her”
“What does that have to do with saving the world?”
“It's not fair”
I can hear J and Greta arguing in my sleep I'm not fully conscious and I'm struggling to get awake.
“What's not fair?”
I murmur out. Both of them keep quite at once they notice I'm drowsy but awake. I try to open my eyes but it feels impossible so I go back to sleep. My mind keeps running around and I keep having nightmares of getting butchered
“Ahhhhhhhhh”
I yell as I wake up. I try to move my hands but they are strapped to the chair. Looking around I turn my head profusely in amazement.
“You're finally awake”
Unfamiliar faces surround me
“Who are you?”
I shout back at them, then some one clears her throat from behind and walks in front of me
“Greta, are you okay? What is this?”
“Well, time is runn
ing out and I decided to move the last part to part to two”
“What does that even me?”
“It's time for your mental training”
She says as she walks out.
Pictures of dead bodies clouded in front of my eyes. These images were terrifying. Agents that I respected, who worked for the agency butchered. Videos of them being tortured continually played for me to see, was the aim to fill me with fear? Alfredo De El was quite treacherous.“It's okay”I screamed, there was silence and awkward stares then they looked at me again. “Put it off, I've hard enough”Said it like I was giving up. Mumurs continued and the videos didn't stop. I heard screams. I couldn't take it. I just wanted to break loose and leave that place but I couldn't my hands were strapped to the chair. After a few more videos, one of the men standing there got a call, I couldn't hear what he was saying but I was extremely curious. After ending the call he walks up to and removes the straps on my hand. Immediately my hands are free, I use my leg to kick him in his crotch and hit him with a punch. The other two come for me and I swing my leg across the face of one while I I use m
To be honest it felt good to put Greta in her place. She had done too much and now I wasn't going to take it.“Scarfaced is responsible for the treacherous killing and butchering we see in pictures and videos”“So Alfredo is just the name? He's actually harmless?”“From the looks of things yes”“Any weaknesses”“Yes, alcohol”“As expected”“You'd mistake him for an alcoholic but it's just an addiction he avoids”We both giggle“You know he's actually good looking, handsome I'd say”“So now you've got eyes for our mark”I stare at him sarcastically“Be serious, it's just… it's just umm”I get lost for words“A what?”Carlos mocks me with a laugh I clear my throat “It's just an observation. Thank. You”“You're welcome”The smirk around his lips comes to life.“So enough about my mark. Tell me about my cover. Who is Maria?”“Very simple. She is an Italian orphan who is loyal to her masters”“She sounds like a slave?”“She's supposed to be“Is that how Italians like it?”“That's how mob
My feet were freezing, it was stone cold and it looked like we were going to freeze to death. Lily on my back, I could hear her whimpering. She was still in shock and so was I. A few moments back we were a happy family, I, Lily, Mama and Papa eating breakfast on the table. Mama had just baked bread and Lily was very excited about it. I wasn't sure whether to cherish the moments or not. But life was beautiful. Mama in the kitchen, there was a knock on the door, I didn't really take into account who they were but Papa had gone to open the door. In our old poor home there was a fire place where we made ourselves feel warm. It was a treasure, it stopped us from freezing to death on most winter nights. Everything was so perfect until I heard Papa scream "Miranda", Mama's name followed by a gunshot. Quickly, she rushed us through the back door and told us to run in her words "don't look back" confused but pushed with adrenaline, I held Lily's hand and ran as fast as I could run. Through
I was sure Greta had it out for me. Right across the room I could see her eyes even though she wore sunglasses. Everyone was sad, including me. Yes! I hated J but I didn't want him to die. It hurt me to see his body lifeless in the casket. It made me feel certain feelings. I could not react, I didn't want to. The entire room was in black, but nobody cried, not even Greta. "It's not your fault"Carlos Whispered to me but I knew I was apportioned blame for this, at least to his mother.I sighed as I paid my last respects to him and threw my flowers on his coffin. Turning around to walk away. I met glances with Greta. Even beneath her shades I could see the look of revenge in her eyes. I knew Greta, I knew her well.I made it to my car, but something felt odd as I turned to the passenger seat. I saw a note opened and it read……I will always love you- JI turn to the steering, and yelled"What kind of sick game is this!"I bang the steering, my chest swells with anger. Opening the door,
Standing beside the security guard I was this close to getting caught. I couldn't hear anything because the speakers I had on had got its wires tangled when I was trying to get out of the air vents. It was just me. My entire team was outside in a van right across the street from the building I was in. The entire mission depended on me. “Hello miss, would you like a dance”A fine gentleman walked up to me and offered a dance, although the security was in disapproval because he didn't like me. He couldn't do anything because the man I was about to dance with was none other than the son of the owner of the building I was in. Elegantly, I stretched my hand. Grasping it in his arms, he led me to the dance floor. “You look really beautiful”I pretended to blush, I wasn't here for compliments unfortunately. I was here for business.“Oh thank you, you're quite handsome I must admit”I pretended to give into his false charm. I had to use what I had to get what I wanted. After a few dances an
I had made up my mind, I was going to leave the agency, after everything I had done for Greta. She picks J’s side, what was I expecting. I had already planned to travel somewhere in Europe, maybe Romania. I hadn't been there in about two years when I had gone to bury my foster mother. I needed the space. I had to meet the council to submit my resignation properly. Walking in, my eyes met with J’s. He stood at the extreme end of the office. He was the last person I wanted to see. I took in a breath and I felt someone patting my shoulder, quickly my instinct made me turn around to wrap my hands around whoever was standing behind. Unfortunately it was Carlos.“Hey, hey”He hastily said. Looking at the fear in his eyes, I felt disgusted with myself.“You don't have to be uptight with everyone”I removed my hands from around his neck, he was right though. I didn't have to cut everyone off.“I'm sorry, it's the paranoia, I couldn't sleep last night”“The caffeine is kicking in?”“No, it's
