Elaine
I don’t know why, but no voice was coming out of my mouth until Eron suddenly pulled me away from Louis who was busy talking to a woman.
As he pulled me, tears fell from my eyes. I didn’t know the reason. It just did.
It seemed like Louis didn’t care because he didn’t even spare me a glance. He was too busy talking to that woman. Who was she, and why was it that when she spoke to him, he didn’t want to pay attention to me?
“Are you okay, Elaine?” Eron asked when he saw the tears falling from my eyes. I quickly wiped them away so he wouldn’t notice that I was crying out of frustration.
“Ah, yes. I’m fine. Don’t mind me. I just got some dust in my eyes,” I lied, forcing a smile. He didn’t seem like a bad person since he said that Kaizer and Louis were his classmates in high school.
I thought Louis would be happy to see Eron, but it seemed like things weren’t going well between them.
We kept walking, but my feet started to ache, so I stopped for a moment to catch my breath. “Wait, where are we going?” I asked him. Instead of answering clearly, he just smiled at me.
“If you’re not going to tell me, I’ll just go back to the football game,” I threatened.
Eron sighed. “Fine, fine, I’ll tell you. You’re not going back there, especially since you’re already in pain. I know a place where you can let out all your frustrations in life,” he said, which made me furrow my brow because I didn’t quite understand what he was saying.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked again.
Eron smiled teasingly before answering, “Your frustrations in life. Like the jealousy you’re feeling now.”
My jaw dropped. He was so bold to tease me. I grabbed my shoe and was about to throw it at him when he suddenly ran away. I had no choice but to follow him since I had no idea of the way back to where Louis and I had been.
Why did I even go with this idiot? If I had known how much of a flirt Eron was, I should’ve just banged their heads together. They were both annoying. Especially Louis, who, after making you feel special, suddenly flirts with someone else. Ugh. Men are such idiots!
We stopped at a place where balloons were set up as if there was a party. I immediately turned around because I thought we came to the wrong place. Eron said it was a spot where I could release all my frustrations, so I expected something like a mountain with no one around, but where would you find such a place on this island?
My eyes widened when Eron pulled me inside, so I slapped him. “Hey, wait a second. I don’t remember any event happening today, and I just met you. Don’t tell me you already like me?” I complained, waving my hand as if to push him away.
He laughed loudly, making me raise an eyebrow. Wow, this guy was a real jerk.
“Hey, if you think I’m easy, you’re mistaken. So take me back to Louis,” I said, even doing a little pose so he wouldn’t notice I was getting nervous.
“Don’t worry, I’m not interested in you. Dream all you want, but don’t overdo it. With my good looks, it’s unlikely that I’d ever like you,” he said, looking me up and down as if evaluating me.
I kicked Eron in frustration. How thick-skinned could he be? He acted like he was some heartthrob. I was about to run when he pulled me by the waist, our faces getting closer.
I swallowed nervously. You’re about to get married, Elaine, so don’t act flirty, I convinced myself. I was shocked when he brought his face closer, and I pushed him away in surprise.
“See? You’re really assuming. As if I’d kiss you,” Eron said, acting disgusted, which made me roll my eyes.
“Come on, let’s go inside. Stop acting. Eros owns this place, so don’t worry, I won’t put you in danger,” he added. I had no choice but to follow him since I was already far from the stadium where Louis was.
“Just make sure. If the police catch us here, it’s trespassing,” I said, holding my chest. My heart was racing from the anxiety.
He raised the chain blocking the entrance and went in first. I was about to run when a guard appeared. I was surprised when they greeted him.
“Good afternoon, Sir Eron. Looks like you’ve got a woman with you again, huh?” the guard teased. The other one smiled at me, and I had no choice but to give him a fake smile.
It seemed like they thought I was one of Eron’s flings. How could he bring me here when it looked like he brought all his women here?
“Ah, yes. This is Elena, my new girlfriend,” Eron said. He even came over to put his arm around me. I was about to kick him away when he whispered to me to just pretend.
“Nice to meet you,” I said so he wouldn’t realize that we were both lying. The guard nodded, and Eron and I walked on.
Once he wasn’t looking, I immediately removed his arm from my shoulders. “You must really like me, jerk,” I muttered, and was about to hit him when he suddenly picked me up and carried me to a place filled with food.
After we sat down, he handed me a strawberry, which I immediately took. “What are we going to talk about?” I asked him, looking at the view. Are we really supposed to sit here? It seemed like there would be an event here later, or was it all done?
The view was beautiful. Any woman who would be surprised here was so lucky.
The place Eros had picked for her was lovely.
“I saw you were jealous earlier when Louis was talking to someone. Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for him?” Eron asked while eating a banana from the basket. I immediately looked away when he mentioned Louis. Even to me, it still wasn’t clear whether I should trust everything he was showing me.
We both knew that we were arranged to be together.
“What jealousy are you talking about? We were just arranged, so why would I fall for him?” I asked sarcastically, starting to eat the strawberry. I looked at Eron when I saw him laughing.
“What’s your problem?” I asked in irritation, only realizing when I saw that I had eaten the green part of the strawberry, too.
“That’s what not being jealous looks like,” he stated, laughing loudly to tease me. I rolled my eyes in frustration, but then my tears, which I had been holding back, started to fall.
“Fine, yes, I’m jealous! Are you happy now?” I shouted at him. I stood up, intending to leave, but I was shocked when he handed me a handkerchief. I only looked at him.
“Take it before I change my mind,” he said, turning away so he wouldn’t see me cry. I took it and wiped my tears.
I had once had a crush on a guy, too, but I never felt this way.
I sat back and ate more strawberries. “You should let it out so you’re not holding everything in,” he said. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before speaking. Maybe he was right. Maybe I needed to release my feelings so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed.
“I don’t know if it’s right for me to be jealous, but when I saw him with Mariella, I just wanted to go into the room where they were talking and pull Louis away from there. But every time I remember how he mentioned that woman when he was drunk, it feels like something’s holding me back,” I began. Eron was looking at me while eating grapes. He seemed to be listening.
“And then I was surprised when he suddenly became nice to me. He even had a surprise for me. But because of a woman, he forgot about me so quickly. What do I know about his past with her? I still don’t know. What does he think I am, a rebound? Huh? Tell me! Am I a rebound?” I shouted. I calmed down when I saw Eron stop eating because of my outburst.
I was shocked when he suddenly handed me a bottle of gin. “What am I supposed to do with this?” I asked. I had no idea what to do with the bottle.
“Try breaking it,” he said sarcastically. “Of course you should drink it. Idiot, tsk.”
My brows furrowed. I was surprised when he took the bottle from my hands and poured some.
We stood up and went toward the beach.
The sea was beautiful in this area, but I had no extra clothes, so I just admired it.
As I got distracted by the sand, someone suddenly tapped me. “Elaine,” he said. When I turned, I saw Kaizer smiling at me.
What was he doing here?
“How did you know I was here?” I asked him. I looked back at Eron who was just scratching his head. It seemed like he was teasing me. I glared at him, but he just shrugged and ran away.
Wow, he’s a real psycho.
“Wear this. We’ve got somewhere important to go,” Kaizer said, making me wonder. What was he planning?
“For what?” I asked.
He didn’t answer me and just covered my eyes with a handkerchief. I couldn’t stop feeling nervous as we walked. When we stopped, I no longer felt the sand under my feet—it was replaced by cold tiles.
Kaizer slowly removed the handkerchief from my eyes. When I opened them, a party popper exploded, startling me. I saw Louis walking toward me. The musicians began playing Brian McKnight’s “Marry Your Daughter”.
I felt a mix of emotions when I saw Aunt Hacel smiling at me while their son was approaching.
“Hello, wife,” Louis said, smiling at me. Why were they all dressed up? What was going on?
I was shocked when Louis suddenly knelt, and I immediately started crying. What was he doing?
My heart raced louder when he pulled out a box and opened it in front of me. “Will you marry me?” he asked. His eyes looked at me as if it wasn’t just because his parents wanted it, but because he desired it, too.
When I looked around, everyone was waiting for my answer. I smiled. Even if Louis didn’t feel the same way, his gesture made me realize that I loved him.
“Yes,” I answered, taking a deep breath to repeat, “Yes, Louis. I will marry you.”
And in that moment, all I could feel was the pounding of my heart as he placed the ring on my finger.
Even without a contract, he was the one I would choose to marry because he was the one who made me feel this way.
ElaineI couldn’t stop smiling when Louis hugged me. “Did you love it, wife?” he asked, and I immediately nodded. Who wouldn’t be happy to be surprised like this? When Louis broke from the hug, it was Aunt Hacel who wrapped me in her arms. “Congratulations to both of you. I can’t wait to see you wearing your wedding gown,” she said. I smiled at her words, and I, too, was excited to see myself in a gown. I never expected to experience something like this until Louis came into my life and made me feel special—just like other women.I actually thought that Kaizer would be the one to make me feel this way. I had a crush on him when I entered college. He always made me feel beautiful, but the world was really small because I ended up falling for his cousin, and I was about to marry him.“Thank you so much, Aunt Hacel. I’m excited, too,” I said. I was surprised when she widened her smile and took my hand to jump with me. I didn’t know what expression to show, but luckily, Uncle Izaak came ov
ElaineWhen I pulled away from our kiss, I quickly looked around to find the source of the camera click. My jaw almost dropped when I saw the large cameras aimed at us, with a person holding a microphone.“We are here at Desire Island, and as you can all see, Louis Montemayor, the heir of Montemayor Company, is having an intense kiss with a woman. Just yesterday, rumors were circulating that he had surprised actress Mariella Althea De Vera, but what is this we’re seeing now?” asked the man holding the mic, moving in front of us.“Just go with the flow, they are reporters,” Louis whispered to me, and I just nodded. Could it be true that he ordered a surprise for Mariella, or did Juliana make a mistake? What still puzzled me was Mariella coming into my room to talk to Louis. What could they have discussed?“Can we interview you, Mr. Montemayor?” the reporter asked, and Louis nodded. He pulled me close and put his arm around me, making the reporters around us cheer.“Is it true that you s
ElaineWhen I turned to see where the voice was coming from, I saw Kaizer standing with his arms crossed in front of us, his eyes were blazing with anger. I immediately pushed Tyron to stand up and explain to him.“You’re thinking wrong, Kai,” I said. Tyron was about to explain when Kaizer punched him hard, knocking him to the floor. What was he doing?“What’s wrong with what I saw, Elaine? This idiot is hugging you. You’ve got some nerve, Tyron, for even planning to hit on Elaine. Don’t you have enough flings on Desire Island?”I tapped my forehead in frustration as I helped Tyron get up since Kaizer’s punch was strong. Why were the Montemayor men always so hot-headed?“Shut up, Kai. Please, can you just let me explain!” I said, which immediately stopped him. I apologized to Tyron before turning to talk to Kaizer.“Tell me, Elaine. What did this idiot do to you?” Kaizer asked, furrowing his brows. He even checked my arms to see if I had bruises. Once he was sure there were none, I sig
Third PersonLouis woke up early. He wanted to cook breakfast for Elaine because he knew she must have been exhausted from what they did the previous night, and he wanted to spend some time with her before heading to Sirius’ mansion. On the other hand, Elaine slowly got out of bed. Her lower body was swollen. Thankfully, Louis wasn’t beside her anymore. She was sure she would feel embarrassed if he saw her, especially the way she looked when she tried to walk.Elaine went to the bathroom inside the room with Louis. She took a shower so she would look fresh in front of him. When she was finished, she went downstairs to the kitchen to cook something for herself, but she saw Louis wearing an apron and making pancakes.Elaine hugged him from behind, making him turn to face her. “Are your legs fine now?” Louis asked. Elaine scratched her head. It was only morning and this was what he first asked her. She was still a bit embarrassed to admit that it still hurt, even though it was their secon
Elaine“Are you okay, dear? How are you holding up?” Mommy Hacel asked. She had already gotten out of the car because I was still feeling nauseous from being dizzy. I couldn’t handle her way of driving that fast. I almost lost my breath from anxiety. We were in front of a large mansion. She said we were going to pick up Sandra and Lexy first, so we drove to Reverence Street where they lived.“I-I’m fine,” I stammered before unbuckling my seatbelt so I could get out of the car.“Oh, dear. Those two will be so happy to see you. They couldn’t come to the party because they were busy with work,” Mommy Hacel said as I got out of the car. Next time, I’d make sure to stop her from holding the car keys. She was really scary when driving.“Is that so? What do they do for work?” I asked with a smile, curious about the people close to Louis. I also wanted to get to know them so I could become close to them.“Sandra is a flight attendant. She doesn’t come home often. Lexy, on the other hand, is ta
ElaineTears were still relentlessly falling from my eyes. I tried to stand up to turn off the shower because I felt like a wet chicken with my clothes completely soaked. What Louis said was the most painful thing I had ever heard in my entire life. I had gotten used to being called ugly in my old school for wearing nerdy clothes and for having acne breakout, yet it was nothing compared to what Louis had said.I started changing clothes. If I kept sulking, my father would definitely wonder why I was taking so long to come down, and they might even notice my puffy eyes from crying. Maybe I was the only one who had feelings for Louis. If I had known that he only did all those surprises for his inheritance, I should have stopped myself from falling for him. Who wouldn’t fall for someone who made that much effort? My thoughts were interrupted when someone knocked on the door. “Elaine, dear,” Mommy Hacel called out. I quickly rushed to get dressed and tried to cover up my puffy eyes with co
ElaineWhen the call ended, I went to the closet room. I remembered what Mommy Hacel said about the clothes she was sure I would need.I opened the door, and I was greeted by cabinets connected around the entire room. Right next to this room was the one Louis and I used to share, but now it was only his.I didn’t know what to choose first, but I opened the closet closest to me.I looked for something to wear. I didn’t want to embarrass myself at the party, especially since Louis would be there and possibly have another woman as his partner. It would also be awkward for Kaizer if I didn’t at least make an effort to look good.I was glad Mommy Hacel thought of putting together a closet room with various types of clothes. She said it was for occasions like this so I wouldn’t have to buy clothes every time there’s an event. She also mentioned that the Montemayor family values their reputation, so they always wear designer brands. They wanted to be the center of attention at every event, so
ElaineSilence filled the car. I was about to ask Kaizer what the problem was, but I was interrupted when the driver spoke, “We’re almost there.”I felt a mix of emotions because, in just a few minutes, I would see Louis. What would his reaction be when he sees me and Kaizer as partners at the party? Would he be a little bit jealous? But with how things were now, it seemed unlikely.“K-Kai, are you okay? You’ve been quiet for a while,” I stammered. Finally, I found a chance to speak. He had been facing away from me, and I was worried that I might have said something that had upset him.“Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t mind me,” he replied coldly.I was speechless. I gathered the courage to speak, and that was all I got in return. In frustration, I turned away from him. “Okay,” I said, annoyed. He probably thought that only he could be stubborn. If he could act like that, then I could, too.“Ely?” I felt his gaze on me. Well, he was the one who didn’t give me attention at first, so I’d just cont
ElaineThe days passed quickly, and we learned the news that Zap had escaped, so our security doubled as we searched for leads on who helped Zap escape and where my real father was.I let out a deep sigh before leaning my head against the chair. I thought the evilness of the Valencias was over, but we were back to square one."Everything will be fine, wife. As long as we are together, we can do anything. I’ll dispatch more people to look for leads," Louis said. He held my hand. I smiled."Thank you, hubby, for always being by my side. Even when I’m still looking for a part of my past identity, you're patient," I said and kissed him on the cheek. That evening, while I was working on paperwork that the wedding organizer gave me, Mace suddenly started crying.I quickly stood up and went to the nursery room, "Wah, Mama." I picked her up and saw Louis enter, holding Caliber in his arms.He asked, "What happened?""Hubby, can you grab the diapers? I think she’s crying because it's already fu
LouisI’ve always thought of myself as the man who knew everything. Someone who was calculated, cold, and efficient—that’s who I am. Or rather, who I was before Elaine. She wasn’t just a woman I was ordered to marry; she was the reason I started questioning everything about my carefully constructed world. It all started when I saw her for the first time walking with her friends down the street. I was in the backseat of my car, flipping through meaningless reports about the family’s business, when I caught sight of her. She wasn’t extraordinary by any conventional standard. She had oversized glasses perched on her nose, braces, and hair that seemed to have a life of its own. Yet, there was something about her laugh. It was carefree. It was pure.“Who’s that woman?” I blurted out, startling Brennon. His eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, confused. “I—I don’t know, sir. Should I find out?”I stayed quiet. My heart clenched for reasons I didn’t understand. Why did I care? She wasn’t the
ElaineThe breeze was cold today at the cemetery. The sun was high, but it didn’t hurt my skin because it was already late afternoon. It was quiet, but I still felt the heaviness in my heart as I walked the path to my father’s grave. Everything that happened was still fresh in my mind, and in the blink of an eye, all the evil deeds of the Valencias were over. But I knew that this wasn’t the end because there were still organizations that wanted to get their hands on the ledger, which I still couldn’t remember. In the end, Zap was imprisoned with multiple charges while Mariella was taken by Lucas to a psychiatrist because she almost lost her sanity with everything that happened.I read the inscription on the tombstone that said Raymond Natividad. I placed the bouquet of white roses down and lit a candle. He was such a good father to me, doing everything to protect me.“In a few months, I’ll be giving birth. I’ll make sure to bring them here so you can see them,” I said. My heart ached,
ElaineWhen I opened my eyes, I felt the pain from the restraints tied to my hands. They were tight and cold, as if purposely tightened to cause severe pain. I trembled as I looked around. It seemed like we were in a storage room, and aside from me, there were two others—Kaizer and Dad, both tied to chairs.“Ely . . . .” Kai’s voice was weak but filled with concern. “Are you okay?”I nodded, even though my heart contradicted the words. It was racing in fear and anxiety over what might happen to us.“Do you know where we are?” I asked, my voice cracking. He shook his head. “All I know is that we’ve been kidnapped by the Valencia Organization. I don’t know how they found us, but I’ll make sure we escape.”I was scared for the baby in my womb. It had nothing to do with this.“Everything will be fine, Ely, trust me,” Kaizer said. It seemed like he had a plan in mind.“Ugh,” Dad groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. When he saw Kaizer and me, his brows furrowed immediately. “What are you tw
ElaineLouis and I stayed in Florida for two more weeks. When Louis saw me that night, he always comforted me. We rarely went out again, and when we did, we always had a bodyguard with us. He didn’t ask me what happened, it seemed like he was waiting for me to tell him on my own.Today, Valerian will pick us up to take us back to the Philippines.“I want to stay here for a while,” I said while organizing the clothes and souvenirs we bought.“We will come back here again. This is one of our houses now, I just need to finish all my work,” Louis answered and pecked a kiss on my cheek. When we got in the car, Valerian smiled at me. “Looks like the newlyweds enjoyed their honeymoon that much. Aunt Hacel said to get both of you after three days, but someone wants to stay longer.”“Shut up, dickhead,” Louis said and I laughed. So, he was the one who planned for us to stay here for a month.“You really hurt my feelings with that greeting, man. A gift for your godchild?” Valerian asked. Louis t
ElaineIt had been a week, and Louis and I had fallen into a routine. We were like a real married couple. Every morning, he cooked for me, and we spent our days exploring different places. Almost every night, something would happen between us. Honestly, it all felt like a dream, and I never wanted to wake up.“Wife, are you still mad at me? I didn’t mean to be rough last night,” Louis asked while trying to feed me some rice.“No. I’m not mad,” I answered briefly.“Then why are you so quiet, hmm?” he asked again. The truth was, I wished we could just stay here because I was afraid that once we went back home, things between us would change again.“I’m just thinking,” I said. His face turned serious. “What is it? You can tell me.”I forced a small smile. It was better to keep what I saw to myself for now. He might think I was involved with Zap.“I’m just thinking about where we should go today. There are so many beautiful places here. I’ll take a quick shower so we can leave,” I said, ki
ElaineI woke up with the sunlight hitting my face. Louis was still not back. I slowly got up, my head still hurting a little, and my eyes were swollen. My fingers still had cuts from picking up the broken picture frame.I went to the kitchen and took the photo. I stared at it once more before crumpling it and putting it inside my pocket. Louis must not see this. I was sure that only Dad can answer all the questions I have about the true identity of this man.I opened the fridge, but it contained nothing except water. I sighed and took a shower so I could go out. I needed to find a grocery store.“Wife, where are you going?”My heart nearly jumped out of my chest when I saw Louis. His hair was messy, and he had deep circles under his eyes. His clothes had traces of blood, and there was a scratch on his forehead.“Are you okay?” I asked, touching the wound on his forehead.I quickly realized what I was doing. Why should I care? I shouldn’t, but my heart couldn’t help but worry. This dam
ElaineI was jolted awake when I heard a loud ringtone coming from Louis’ phone."Answer your call," I ordered.Louis declined the call and returned his gaze to me. "I'm sorry for waking you up."I rubbed my eyes to see his face more clearly since the room was dim. "It's okay, I was just startled. But why are you still awake?" I was about to get up to get a drink from the kitchen, but my eyes shut tightly when I felt a sharp pain in my lower body. The same thing happened to me after our first time. It felt like my body was being split in two.Noticing that I seemed to be in pain, Louis helped me up. "Are you okay, wife? Should I call a doctor?" he asked with concern, making me stare at him.Was he really concerned about me?I smiled in amusement, but Ashton’s words suddenly echoed in my mind.Louis was just using me. That was all. I shouldn’t fall for his actions anymore."I'm fine, it's just that my lower part is sore. Someone here was too rough," I hinted while pointing at my womanho
ElaineAs soon as I returned inside the venue, Venice approached me.“Good thing you’re finally here, bestie. Everyone is waiting for you so that you and Louis can receive Aunt Hacel’s gift,” she said. I couldn’t help but gulp due to nervousness. What was the Montemayor family up to this time?I quickly forced a smile when I saw Venice still looking at me. She had no idea about what was going on between Louis and me. I couldn’t blame her because I was sure Volstrige kept it a secret from her.“Sorry, I was late again. I just went to the restroom for a bit,” I explained and was about to step forward when Venice grabbed my arm, stopping me.“Wait a moment. I was really waiting for you here because I have something to give you. Also, are you spacing out? That’s not the way to the balcony. Is that the effect of alcohol?” She burst into laughter. When I realized she was right, I couldn’t help but close my eyes in embarrassment.“I wasn’t going there, duh!” I replied and was about to walk aw
