I had this intense urge to run to the little girl and hug her, do something, anything to protect her from this pain. She didn’t- she wasn’t supposed to feel like this. This wasn’t the age to think about why your father hated you. I knew how heartbreaking it would be to think like that.

Right now, I would do anything if it meant she was not heartbroken.

There was a long pause before I heard a shaky breath. I could almost feel his emotions, and I sensed the desperation in his heartbeat. I walked towards Azalea and she looked up at me, her eyes brimming with tears.

“We will come back later,” I said to Brian as I carried Azalea away from the place. A big tear rolled down her cheeks and I shook my head. I shouldn’t have done this. I only wanted to give him some semblance of hope, but now the girl was hurt because of me. This was a reminder not to meddle in things that were not my concern.
