Brad’s POV
Walking back into the boy’s changing room, I slammed the door behind me and collapsed on a bench.Rejecting Scarlet turned out to be more difficult than I prepared for. She wasn’t the typical mate I expected to have, yet, the bond between us tore through my heart like a spear.Scarlet wasn’t my type. My girlfriend, Valerie was sleek and sophisticated. She lavished hours at the salon and gym as though it was her full time job. She knew how to keep her lips red and to welcome me in her room wearing nothing but silk lingerie. And most importantly, she was easy to control.Scarlet, on the other hand, was beautiful—maybe. But she was attractive in her own way. She wore no makeup and clearly saw her hair as a chore. In her constant baggy shirts and jeans, she obviously had no interest in fashion, or even showing her figure to any guy.She was so unguarded, so innocent, and I thought it would be very easy to reject her. But when she stared up at me with her large and luminous eyes, my wolf melted away.“Hey! Can we talk?” A voice jolted me out of my thoughts and I lifted my eyes to meet Elias’ cold gaze. He was towering over me and I felt intimidated. I slowly gathered myself from the bench and rose to my feet. What the hell was he doing in our side of school?“Seeing you here, I assume it must be very important.” I dug my hands into my pocket. “I hope what you want to discuss is worth my time.”Elias, three years older than me, was the Lycan Prince of the Noble crest pack. As much as I hated to admit it, he was feared and respected more than everyone in school. But I was happy that Lycans and wolves were not allowed to interact at school due to years of dispute.Lycans were aggressive and tended to spiral out of control, crushing anyone who came between them. They were possessive creatures who left their claim on girls whether they were mated or not. The separation was important for peace and as the Alpha’s son, I maintained that stability at school.“It’s about Scarlet.” He said, calmly. But Elias was no mind reader. How could he know about the mate bond already? I wasn’t even sure he was supposed to know who Scarlet was.“Who?”His brows furrowed. “Your mate.”I stared at him for a long moment. “What about her?”“Did you reject her?”“No. Not yet.” Obviously, if he knew about the mating bond, he had to know that I wasn’t going to accept it. But why was all these important to him? “Why are you suddenly concerned about Scarlet?”“You need to reject her.” I was starting to get suspicious.“Why?” Who did he think he was to try and make decisions for me? And why on earth did he think I would listen to him?He was silent for a while, then smiled as he looked back at me. “She’s not yours to play with, Brad. Valerie is your girlfriend and I’m sure she keeps you entertained enough. Stay as far away from Scarlet as you can.”I was starting to get pissed off. “She’s my mate and I can do whatever I want with her. If you have something else to say, you can say it now or–”Elias shoved me to the wall before I could finish and wrapped his hands around my throat. “Listen to me, Brad. I know you have no intentions to love her like she deserves. So, back off or you’ll have to deal with me.”I pushed him off me and adjusted my shirt. His eyes were a blazing red with dark veins around them. I had only seen a Lycan that way whenever he was defending his mate or trying to claim her from someone else. But how could it be? How could my Scarlet be his mate? How could he try to take her from me?“From your reaction, I can tell you want her.” I said, rubbing my elbow. “But she came to me first and luckily, I’ve changed my mind. I’m going to claim and mark her.”Elias turned his back to me, with hands clenched beside him and his body shaking with rage. “I’m going to rip out your throat if you hurt her.” With that, he walked away without looking back once.“Fuck!” My fist punched through the wall before I could stop myself. Rage, pure rage washed over me as I considered Elias’ threat. How could he come to my territory to threaten me? How dare him try to take my mate from me? “I’m not going to let him have her.”“Brad, are you in here?” The door creaked open with Valerie poking her head through it. “Why are you hiding in the changing room?” I sighed and bit back a curse. She was the last person I needed to see.Valerie came to stand in front of me, her scent of expensive perfumes and shampoo swamping my nostrils. I was painfully aware that she smelt nothing like Scarlet who scented like natural wet roses and vanilla.“Why didn’t you tell me you found her?” Her hands were on her waist and she was tapping her foot gently.I wrapped my arms around her and faked a smile. “Because I didn’t think it was important to tell you. After all, I was planning to reject her.”“You were planning? Did you reject her and did she accept it?”It was hard to keep eye contact especially when I was thinking of a lie to tell her. “I didn’t but I told her we couldn’t be together. She begged me not to reject her because she will be kicked out of the pack.”Valerie’s eyes were cold and angry as she stepped back from me. Her face was curled into a malicious frown. “We promised to reject our mates when we find them. Don’t you consider this a betrayal to me? Why are you choosing that freak over me?”I straightened up and ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. Every minute I was wasting with her, Elias was probably taking the advantage to get closer to Scarlet.“I’ll reject her tomorrow, I promise.” The lie was easier to tell than the truth. “I was just trying not to hurt her so much. She’s probably crying her eyes out right now.”She sighed and placed her palms on my chest. “You’re mine and I don’t want to share you with anyone.” She pressed her lips to mine and wrapped her hands around my neck. “Besides, I’ve already taken care of her. She wouldn’t dare to ever come close to you again.”Without thinking, I pushed Valerie away from me. “What did you do to her? Tell me!” My voice thundered across the room as I rose to my feet. “Where is she?”“We–we just–she’s at the back of the cafeteria.” She was nervous. “Elias stopped us from hurting her.”“What have you done?!!” I dashed out of the room to the hallway, without waiting for an answer. I couldn’t let Elias take her away from me.Scarlet’s POV"She is losing her healing abilities. The medicines are only going to help her temporarily."My eyes weakly opened and I glanced around the room. The dimly lit room and the stench of disinfectant told me that I was in the school's clinic. My head was wrapped up with a bandage as I laid on the bed."What could be the reason she's not healing?" I heard the stranger ask the nurse. I turned my head slightly to see them, but I winced in pain and drew their attention instead."Oh, she's finally awake." The nurse said, drawing closer to me. She narrowed her eyes as she tilted my head to examine my wound. "This should have healed by now but it's not."She was right. My healing abilities as a wolf was supposed to seal up my wound after some minutes. I wasn't supposed to be wrapped up in bandages or feeling pain with every breath I took. What was suddenly wrong with me?"What's wrong with me?" I whispered, weakly."You suffered a mild concussion and have some fractured ribs," she
SCARLET'S POVI was dumbfounded and couldn't seem to process what was going on. I sank back into the bed, trying to decipher what was happening but it was all a fuzzy dream in my head. Two mates? What on earth was Brad talking about?“What—what are you talking about?” I managed to ask amidst my confusion. Brad chuckled and pointed to Elias. “He didn’t tell you, did he?” He licked his lips. “I’m guessing he didn’t tell you that he is your mate. And he has known for years! He has watched them bully you for years and he did nothing!” “Brad!” Elias' voice rang in the room and I flinched. “That’s enough!” I could detect the anger in his voice and his eyes were glimmering with fury.Elias turned to me. “You don’t have to listen to him.”My breath faltered and I could hear my own heart beat. I lifted my gaze to Elias, unable to believe what Brad said. Could he have known for three years? He had watched them bully me for three years and he did nothing. “You knew…” I started but the words w
BRAD'S POVDamn it! How could Scarlet shun me like that? Some minutes ago, she was literally begging me to accept her but all of a sudden, she can’t make a choice? I don’t blame her anyway, it’s not everyday an omega like her gets the attention of an Alpha and Lycan Prince. As I drove back to my house, I couldn't control the anger that was running through me. Irritation pricked my skin each time I remembered the look on Elias' face. "Why didn't she pick me? Did she think he was better than me?” I couldn’t help but ponder over these questions. I could barely keep my concentration on the road and it felt like the car was closing in on me. I took a deep breath and decided to take a break.I parked the car at a corner of the road, turned off the ignition and began to think. I couldn’t let Elias have her. I didn’t want or care about her but Elias would not take her from me. I would lose my respect in the pack and in school. This was a fight, one that I was willing to do anything to win.
SCARLET'S POVAfter Elias returned after paying the medical bills, he stood by my side in silence. I could feel his intense gaze on me but wondered why he didn’t say anything. "Why are you so quiet?" I asked in a low voice as I stared into his eyes.He managed to smile at me but it didn’t quite meet his eyes. "Nothing. I just don't have anything to say." He ran his fingers through his hair. “Or maybe I’m just worried about Brad.” “What about him?” “I’m just bothered about what he’s going to do next.” He answered. “I’ve never known him to play fair.” “But this is not a game. I am not a game.” “True.” He nodded. “But Brad will do anything to win. Anything.” I felt cold shivers run down at my spine at the intensity of his words. I didn’t know much about Brad but I was fairly certain Elias had reasons for his worry. Elias didn't take his eyes off me for even a second, and I could feel the bond between our wolves. It was faint, sorely because I hadn’t rejected Brad and he wasn’t my
**SCARLET'S POV**When I opened my eyes, I was on my bed in my room. I groaned heavily as the lights from the window blinded my vision slightly. My head was fuzzy with pain, and every movement sent sharp waves of pain through my body.It felt like the entire world had just come crashing on me, my breath catching in my throat as if each exhale amplified the pain. I tried to get up, but a searing pain shot up from my chest, spreading through my body like fire.“Scarlet, for goddess sake, rest on the bed.” I turned to see my mother dashing into the room with a glass of water and some pills. She looked pale with worry, and I could guess she was the one that found me.“What’s happening?” I groaned. “I can’t feel my head.”“Sorry, baby.” She placed a damp towel on my head. “I was scared when I found you at the end of the stairs. I thought something terrible happened to you.” She choked back her tears. “Do you remember anything that happened?”“I remember coming home and searching for you. T
ELIAS'S POVAs I drove back to the pack, I couldn't get Scarlet out of my head, no matter how hard I tried. The way she gazed into my eyes left me in awe. I had never felt that way before but it was soothing to the soul.Such beautiful eyes she had with a low, sexy voice that left me breathless.I remembered when I first met her; she couldn’t even remember that day as I narrated it to her. She was at the store with her sister, shopping for a birthday dress. I could vividly remember how beautiful she looked with her wild red hair. I wanted to claim her the instance I saw her but her excitement over finding her mate once she’s eighteen stopped me from doing that. Since then, I had watched her like I was her personal bodyguard. It still amazed me that she didn’t ever notice me, lurking in the background, following her to every store and her favorite places. Well, she was Scarlet, unique but quite clumsy. My heart was filled with anger as well as a great feeling of irritation, but it w
SCARLET'S POVI jolted up from my bed, panting heavily like I had just completed a marathon. I stared at the whitewashed ceiling as I tried to catch my breath.I had a nightmare, a gruesome one. I didn’t want to even recall what I saw but it was too scary to forget. What could it mean? I couldn't wrap my head around it, no matter how hard I tried.I opened the bottle of water sitting on my desk and gulped it down. I wiped my forehead which was dripping with sweat and exhaled. The door to the room flung open seconds later. My mother stood in front of me, looking concerned."Honey, are you okay? I heard you screaming.” She inched toward me and placed her hand on my forehead. “You’re burning up.” I shook my head slightly. “It’s nothing really serious mum. I just had a nightmare.” "Are you sure you’re okay?”“Yes.” I breathed. “I guess it’s normal with everything that’s been going on. It was just really scary.” “Everything is going to be fine, okay?” I nodded. “Now, get ready. You
SCARLET'S POVI stared into oblivion as a thousand thoughts ran through my mind. None of them explained why the Vice chancellor would want to see me. To think he had come himself and didn't send someone to call me was alarming. What could the Vice chancellor want with me for him to call me to his office? I couldn't think of any reason and neither could I wrap my head around it. I rose from my seat immediately and followed behind him to his office. “Sir, is everything okay?” I asked as I followed him, my heart beating furiously. “When we get to my office, we will talk about whether everything is okay or not.” He answered briskly. The Vice-Chancellor was a very stern man and that scared me. I had never gotten into any trouble on campus but I was quite aware that my attention wouldn’t be demanded on an ordinary day. Something had happened and that’s why he came to fetch me himself. My mind quickly darted back to Brad’s threat. Could he have hurt my sister as a way to get back at me? I
SCARLET'S POV. Egg after egg dropped, filling the space, and I couldn't help the feeling of raw panic eating me up. I had ever seen such a monster with different traits. It has pincers like scorpions and made loud noises. It buzzed like a bee, and was so solid even though it was made of ants. It was laying eggs which was really unbelievable, but what scared me was that I didn't know what would happen if the eggs happened to hatch. What creature would we see there, and how would they eat us up?I took in deep breaths, as me and Elias were pushed together. I couldn't help myself. It felt like I would suddenly scream, and go out. The eggs fell against us, and it was then I knew I couldn't help myself. “Elias!” I called out, as my hand closed over his shirt tightly. My mouth opened wide, and I fought for breath, but couldn't find it. “Scarlet, Scarlet, breathe!” Elias said, looking at me intently, as I hit my chest, trying to breathe. My eyes filled up with tears, and it felt like I w
RALPH'S POVEstelle looked at us all, enjoying the looks of shock on the faces of the men. Then she walked over to me, and bent, placing a hand on the table, and the other behind my chair. I wouldn't deny the ice in her eyes. Everything about her seemed cold, and although I hated her being that close to me, I did not budge. I stared at her right in the eye, without fear. “You must be having a hard time, right?” She spoke softly. “Well, I've had a harder time.” She said, then straightened up, without taking her eyes off me for a second. She seemed to built for revenge, and in her eyes were the echoes of pain, and cold. She took a few steps backwards, before giving a smile that didn't reach her eyes, then she turned away, walking out of the hall. The elders all looked like they had been holding their breaths, and they let it out quickly, looking at each other. “I believe we've discussed all we need to discuss.” I said, getting to my feet. Sitting around, doing nothing was something
RALPH’S POVI dressed in my room, trying hard so time wouldn't run out on me. There was a council meeting scheduled for the day, and I had to attend instead of Elias. The council elders had sent in multiple envelopes, all demanding to see Elias. ‘Where is the Alpha?’‘What is the Alpha planning on doing?’‘Is Alpha Elias aware that things are becoming even worse?’They had sent in all kinds of questions, and I understood their impatience. It was all stemming from the fear Estelle had woven into their hearts. A knock came on my door. “Come in.” I said, brushing my hair. If I didn't look my best, they would assume Elias didn't know what he was doing, and that he had just put some random person on his throne. I really hoped he and Scarlet would make it back alive, and quickly because I was in no way fit for an Alpha. A maid walked in with toast on a tray. “No, no, I'm fine. I didn't ask for breakfast.” I said, but she didn't retreat. “Before leaving, Alpha Elias gave me strict ord
SCARLET’S POVWe fell mercilessly, hitting the rough edges, getting bruises all over. I landed on the ground with my head in an awkward position, before straightening up, and looking at Elias, who was sprawled on the ground, breathing hard, as he looked up at the sky. I looked around. Apparently, we had fallen in some kind of hole. Due to taking quick hasty breaths, the dust managed to get into my nose, and I sneezed hard. We heard the strange buzzing sound, and I covered my mouth, only for another sneeze to come true. I sneezed again, and Elias scrambled to his fist to cover my mouth. I held his hand there, willing myself not to sneeze. Eventually, I let out a tiny one, and with my eyes watering, I looked around, taking Elias' hands off my mouth. Everywhere was dusty. It was probably because we had fallen through it. All the dust seemed to be settling. “What do we do now?” I whispered, giving a little cough, as I tried to swipe the dust away from settling on my face.“I think w
THIRD PERSONIt wasn't just Elias who felt the tendrils of fear squeezing his heart. Scarlet felt it too, and it felt like her chest was on fire, just from wondering what would happen. The mere terror that the clanging sound generated made her heart beat faster at every clang. It was too much for her to handle. She looked around repeatedly, and the soft wind whipped her hair into her face, which she brushed back with both hands. Already, her palms were cold and sweaty, and the anxiety was just too much. She needed the suspense to be over. “What do you think that is?” She asked Elias, still looking around, trying to guess what could be the reason for the weird sound. “I have no idea.” Elias replied, as the sound grew louder. “We should… I think we should move on.” Scarlet suggested, wanting to make a move. It was so obvious that whatever was approaching them with the weird sound wasn't single. It wasn't two, nor was it three. It was definitely a lot.“I say we wait.” Elias replied,
ELIAS’ POVI couldn't understand the fear and anxiety filling me up. It wasn't the first time Scarlet and I had been on a journey, or been faced with dangerous creatures, and people, but still there was that nervousness. That whispering voice that told me my fears were not twisting lies in my head, but trying to bore the truth into me. Something really awful could happen, and I might be unable to escape it with Scarlet by my side. Either way, I hated the feeling. The whole place spoke, and gave an aura of power, dark power, and it boasted too easily of how we could get killed. It was the main reason for my fears. The man looked at us, and even without the features on his face, I was somehow able to tell that he had a smile on. Then, I looked at Scarlet. She also seemed lost in thoughts, and it would be the best time to try to convince her, but she would despise me for it. It was better I carried out her wish, than to let my fear get the best of me. “We are willing to try. After
Scarlet and Elias couldn’t help but admit within themselves that they were overwhelmed by fear. Elias knew how dangerous the journey was, and this made him even more scared. “Well, hello.” The man spoke, in an eerie tone. “Who the hell are you?” Elias managed to question him, as they were both wary of him. “A question which actually isn’t the major concern. But I’ll tell you one thing. If you dare try to escape, because it’s only expected of you to want to run from me, you won’t be able to get to the world beyond.” “Uhn!” Elias exclaimed softly, not knowing whether to believe the man or not. “Yeah. To make things more understandable for you, I am the passage to the world beyond, which only means without me, you can’t go into the world beyond. So, now, I hope you know that it is only unwise of you to run from me. And if you have enough time to waste, you can actually run from me, and when you realize you’ve been wasting your time, you’ll come back, and definitely meet me here.” Bo
SCARLET’S POV It was dawn already, and was time for us to set out for her journey. If it was an outing, I would have been so excited about it, but then, it was a dangerous journey which we are just going on for the sake of a friend which we have taken as a family. Even from the name, the world beyond, one would have known that it isn’t a place one can take lightly. For Elias to have been so adamant on us not going there, it was evident that it wasn’t like other dangerous places that we have gotten ourselves into. “Are you certain you are ready?” Elias asked me as we headed towards the woods. “I am more than ready.” I responded to him, not wanting to sound discouraging. Even if I wanted to sound discouraging, it shouldn’t be from here when he could easily turn back and by then, whatever I do, might not make him change his mind, anymore. We didn’t have to walk too much before we got to the woods, and that only made me feel a little anxious. But then, I had to stop myself from getti
SCARLET'S POV “I know, and I feel quite bad for going down that lane, but you know we’ve got to do all it takes to ensure Ashley is back to good health. Who knows? She might be able to help us with an information. You know she was captured by Estelle. She must have seen a lot which would be very helpful for us.” “I understand. Just look for better ways to convince him regarding something than hurting yourself. Well, let me leave you to go over to meet him. I’m sure he’s so annoyed with both you, and himself. You’ve got to make him feel he isn’t making the wrong decision.” “Alright! I’m on it.” “He’s in the garden, by the way.” Ralph informed me, and I smiled lightly. “Thanks.” I appreciated him, then I stepped out of the room and walked towards the garden. On getting to the garden, I saw him standing and gazing at the sky with both hands in his pockets. I knew he was going through a lot, and had a lot of responsibilities burdening him. So, all he needed was things to go a bit eas
