SCARLET'S POV

I was dumbfounded and couldn't seem to process what was going on. I sank back into the bed, trying to decipher what was happening but it was all a fuzzy dream in my head. Two mates? What on earth was Brad talking about?

“What—what are you talking about?” I managed to ask amidst my confusion.

Brad chuckled and pointed to Elias. “He didn’t tell you, did he?” He licked his lips. “I’m guessing he didn’t tell you that he is your mate. And he has known for years! He has watched them bully you for years and he did nothing!”

“Brad!” Elias' voice rang in the room and I flinched. “That’s enough!” I could detect the anger in his voice and his eyes were glimmering with fury.

Elias turned to me. “You don’t have to listen to him.”

My breath faltered and I could hear my own heart beat. I lifted my gaze to Elias, unable to believe what Brad said. Could he have known for three years? He had watched them bully me for three years and he did nothing.

“You knew…” I started but the words were caught up in my throat. “You knew and you didn’t tell me about our bond. Is that because you’re ashamed of me?”

“I’m not ashamed of you, Scarlet.” Elias answered. “Don’t let him get into your head.”

“Scarlet, you have to make a choice!” Brad interrupted, his jaw clenched. “Is it me or him?!”

"What about Valerie?!” The room seemed to be closing in on me. “Didn't you already reject me for her? Why did you suddenly change your mind?” I asked, my voice weak and filled with fear as I managed to look into his eyes.

He fixed a long look on me with his hands clasped together. "Well, I did but I suddenly realized that I didn’t make the right choice by rejecting you. I want you back but you have to reject Elias first.” There was a finality in his tone. It was clear to me; it was either him or Elias. There was no in between.

Elias, on the other hand, remained calm, watching me with warm eyes. I glanced deeper into his gaze in search of something I could hold onto but there was none. He was completely blank or perhaps he had a way to hide it from me.

The memories of how Brad had rejected me for Valerie played in my head and irritation pricked by skin.

He must have gotten into a problem with Valerie and realized that he couldn't be with her. I was nothing but a second choice and that upset me so much.

I would have turned him down without thinking twice if I wasn't feeling so attached to him. My wolf was yearning for every bit for him and wouldn't keep calm. He was handsome and I couldn't dispute that fact but it still hurt that he chose Valerie over me initially.

Elias, on the other hand, was the crown Lycan prince and the heir to the throne that controlled all supernatural powers. He had had his eyes on me for a long time but just didn't reveal it on time. The reason for that was far from my knowledge.

I was plunged into a dilemma and did not have the slightest idea of what was to be done.

Brad's eyes remained fixed on me and he looked really agitated. Although I was happy he was ready to accept me, I couldn’t give him an answer yet.

I could bear it no more. It was too difficult for me to choose. My eyes flickered around and then shut for a few seconds.

"I'm sorry but I can't make a choice now," I blurted out. Their faces fell and I could see the hurt in Elia's eyes. My heart sank and a pang of guilt washed over me.

"But Scarlet.."

"No buts. I can’t make a decision now and you’re not going to force one out of me." I turned my head to the other side at once, unable to stare any of them in the eye. I didn't care if they were going to tear each other apart for my choice. In fact, it felt good to be the center of attention for once.

“You’ll regret this!” Brad yelled and then I heard the door slam shut. I exhaled and hoped he wouldn’t return again.

There was a moment of silence between Elias and I before he spoke to me. "Are you alright?” He asked, sounding quite worried. I felt hot tears pricking my eyes but I couldn’t let them out.

Elias reached for my hands and locked them in his. They were warm and assuring. Strangely, the thumping against my chest decreased drastically.

"You've got nothing to worry about.” He smiled. “I know it’s a lot to deal with. First, you’re rejected and now, you have two mates who want you. I can imagine how you feel.”

I tried to speak but he wouldn't let me. He placed his index finger on my lips, shutting me up at once.

"You don't have to say anything. Like I said, you should relax. You need enough energy to heal."

He smiled and my wolf swelled with energy, arousing my emotions. He lowered his head and planted a kiss on my head.

"I need to get something out there. I'll be back in a minute," he said, and winked at me before he dashed off.

As I watched him leave, a sigh escaped through my lips. I had to be grateful to him for saving me from Valerie. If he hadn’t showed up, I probably would have been too hurt. But at the same time, I felt this anger imprinted on me. I wanted to know why he refused to tell me about the mate bond, why he knew for years and said nothing to me.

The door flung open, snapping me out of my thoughts and Elias walked in.

I was going to speak to him but the nurse came in. She glanced around the room and smiled when she saw me.

"I can see you're much better.” She said, “I hope you heal completely soon.” She turned to Elias. “Thank you for bringing her here. You saved her life.”

He nodded and cleared his throat rather dramatically, attracting both of our attention. "When do you think she will be discharged from here?" He asked. “To keep her safe, I think she should be sent home immediately.”

“What?” My eyebrows furrowed. “I can take care of myself!”

“You’re no way able to shift in your current situation. You can’t defend yourself if anyone attacks you. There are people still looking to hurt you so the school is not safe for you.”

"That's right and that's the main reason I'm here.” The nurse added. Due to what happened, I doubt you’ll be able to shift anymore. If you’re unable to accept the rejection from your mate, staying away from school is the best option. If you’re attacked again, I’m not sure you’ll survive it this time.”

I felt helpless as I considered their advice. If I couldn’t shift, I was useless as a wolf. It also meant that I had to make my decision faster. I had to choose between Brad and Elias soon. “Fine.” I breathed. “I’ll go home but I can still protect myself without shifting.”

“If you say so.” The nurse said, before handing Elias a paper. “You should clear her bills before leaving.”

"Alright, that's not a problem," he said in a low voice, then accompanied the nurse to clear the bill.

“You’ll regret this!” Brad’s warning rang in my head again. Maybe I should have accepted him as my mate. Instead of facing the danger of being wolf less.

How could my day turn out this way? I was supposed to find the love of my life, listen to him claim me as his but none of that worked out.

"This is the worst day of my life."

BRAD'S POVDamn it! How could Scarlet shun me like that? Some minutes ago, she was literally begging me to accept her but all of a sudden, she can’t make a choice? I don’t blame her anyway, it’s not everyday an omega like her gets the attention of an Alpha and Lycan Prince. As I drove back to my house, I couldn't control the anger that was running through me. Irritation pricked my skin each time I remembered the look on Elias' face. "Why didn't she pick me? Did she think he was better than me?” I couldn’t help but ponder over these questions. I could barely keep my concentration on the road and it felt like the car was closing in on me. I took a deep breath and decided to take a break.I parked the car at a corner of the road, turned off the ignition and began to think. I couldn’t let Elias have her. I didn’t want or care about her but Elias would not take her from me. I would lose my respect in the pack and in school. This was a fight, one that I was willing to do anything to win.

"Why are you so quiet?" I asked in a low voice as I stared into his eyes.He managed to smile at me but it didn’t quite meet his eyes. "Nothing. I just don't have anything to say." He ran his fingers through his hair. “Or maybe I’m just worried about Brad.” “What about him?” “I’m just bothered about what he’s going to do next.” He answered. “I’ve never known him to play fair.” “But this is not a game. I am not a game.” “True.” He nodded. “But Brad will do anything to win. Anything.” I felt cold shivers run down at my spine at the intensity of his words. I didn’t know much about Brad but I was fairly certain Elias had reasons for his worry. Elias didn't take his eyes off me for even a second, and I could feel the bond between our wolves. It was faint, sorely because I hadn’t rejected Brad and he wasn’t my

My head was fuzzy with pain, and every movement sent sharp waves of pain through my body.It felt like the entire world had just come crashing on me, my breath catching in my throat as if each exhale amplified the pain. I tried to get up, but a searing pain shot up from my chest, spreading through my body like fire.“Scarlet, for goddess sake, rest on the bed.” I turned to see my mother dashing into the room with a glass of water and some pills. She looked pale with worry, and I could guess she was the one that found me.“What’s happening?” I groaned. “I can’t feel my head.”“Sorry, baby.” She placed a damp towel on my head. “I was scared when I found you at the end of the stairs. I thought something terrible happened to you.” She choked back her tears. “Do you remember anything that happened?”“I remember coming home and searching for you. T

She was at the store with her sister, shopping for a birthday dress. I could vividly remember how beautiful she looked with her wild red hair. I wanted to claim her the instance I saw her but her excitement over finding her mate once she’s eighteen stopped me from doing that. Since then, I had watched her like I was her personal bodyguard. It still amazed me that she didn’t ever notice me, lurking in the background, following her to every store and her favorite places. Well, she was Scarlet, unique but quite clumsy. SCARLET'S POVI stared into oblivion as a thousand thoughts ran through my mind. None of them explained why the Vice chancellor would want to see me. To think he had come himself and didn't send someone to call me was alarming. What could the Vice chancellor want with me for him to call me to his office? I couldn't think of any reason and neither could I wrap my head around it. I rose from my seat immediately and followed behind him to his office. “Sir, is everything okay?” I asked as I followed him, my heart beating furiously. “When we get to my office, we will talk about whether everything is okay or not.” He answered briskly. The Vice-Chancellor was a very stern man and that scared me. I had never gotten into any trouble on campus but I was quite aware that my attention wouldn’t be demanded on an ordinary day. Something had happened and that’s why he came to fetch me himself. My mind quickly darted back to Brad’s threat. Could he have hurt my sister as a way to get back at me? I

SCARLET'S POV. Egg after egg dropped, filling the space, and I couldn't help the feeling of raw panic eating me up. I had ever seen such a monster with different traits. It has pincers like scorpions and made loud noises. It buzzed like a bee, and was so solid even though it was made of ants. It was laying eggs which was really unbelievable, but what scared me was that I didn't know what would happen if the eggs happened to hatch. What creature would we see there, and how would they eat us up?I took in deep breaths, as me and Elias were pushed together. I couldn't help myself. It felt like I would suddenly scream, and go out. The eggs fell against us, and it was then I knew I couldn't help myself. “Elias!” I called out, as my hand closed over his shirt tightly. My mouth opened wide, and I fought for breath, but couldn't find it. “Scarlet, Scarlet, breathe!” Elias said, looking at me intently, as I hit my chest, trying to breathe. RALPH'S POVEstelle looked at us all, enjoying the looks of shock on the faces of the men. Then she walked over to me, and bent, placing a hand on the table, and the other behind my chair. I wouldn't deny the ice in her eyes. Everything about her seemed cold, and although I hated her being that close to me, I did not budge. I stared at her right in the eye, without fear. “You must be having a hard time, right?” She spoke softly. “Well, I've had a harder time.” She said, then straightened up, without taking her eyes off me for a second. She seemed to built for revenge, and in her eyes were the echoes of pain, and cold. She took a few steps backwards, before giving a smile that didn't reach her eyes, then she turned away, walking out of the hall. The elders all looked like they had been holding their breaths, and they let it out quickly, looking at each other. “I believe we've discussed all we need to discuss.” I said, getting to my feet. RALPH’S POVI dressed in my room, trying hard so time wouldn't run out on me. There was a council meeting scheduled for the day, and I had to attend instead of Elias. The council elders had sent in multiple envelopes, all demanding to see Elias. ‘Where is the Alpha?’‘What is the Alpha planning on doing?’‘Is Alpha Elias aware that things are becoming even worse?’They had sent in all kinds of questions, and I understood their impatience. It was all stemming from the fear Estelle had woven into their hearts. A knock came on my door. “Come in.” I said, brushing my hair. If I didn't look my best, they would assume Elias didn't know what he was doing, and that he had just put some random person on his throne. I really hoped he and Scarlet would make it back alive, and quickly because I was in no way fit for an Alpha. A maid walked in with toast on a tray. “No, no, I'm fine. I didn't ask for breakfast.” I said, but she didn't retreat. “Before leaving, Alpha Elias gave me strict ord

SCARLET’S POVWe fell mercilessly, hitting the rough edges, getting bruises all over. I landed on the ground with my head in an awkward position, before straightening up, and looking at Elias, who was sprawled on the ground, breathing hard, as he looked up at the sky. I looked around. Apparently, we had fallen in some kind of hole. Due to taking quick hasty breaths, the dust managed to get into my nose, and I sneezed hard. We heard the strange buzzing sound, and I covered my mouth, only for another sneeze to come true. I sneezed again, and Elias scrambled to his fist to cover my mouth. I held his hand there, willing myself not to sneeze. Eventually, I let out a tiny one, and with my eyes watering, I looked around, taking Elias' hands off my mouth. Everywhere was dusty. It was probably because we had fallen through it. All the dust seemed to be settling. “What do we do now?” I whispered, giving a little cough, as I tried to swipe the dust away from settling on my face.“I think w

THIRD PERSONIt wasn't just Elias who felt the tendrils of fear squeezing his heart. Scarlet felt it too, and it felt like her chest was on fire, just from wondering what would happen. The mere terror that the clanging sound generated made her heart beat faster at every clang. It was too much for her to handle. She looked around repeatedly, and the soft wind whipped her hair into her face, which she brushed back with both hands. Already, her palms were cold and sweaty, and the anxiety was just too much. She needed the suspense to be over. “What do you think that is?” She asked Elias, still looking around, trying to guess what could be the reason for the weird sound. “I have no idea.” Elias replied, as the sound grew louder. “We should… I think we should move on.” Scarlet suggested, wanting to make a move. It was so obvious that whatever was approaching them with the weird sound wasn't single. It wasn't two, nor was it three. It was definitely a lot.“I say we wait.” Elias replied,

ELIAS’ POVI couldn't understand the fear and anxiety filling me up. It wasn't the first time Scarlet and I had been on a journey, or been faced with dangerous creatures, and people, but still there was that nervousness. That whispering voice that told me my fears were not twisting lies in my head, but trying to bore the truth into me. Something really awful could happen, and I might be unable to escape it with Scarlet by my side. Either way, I hated the feeling. The whole place spoke, and gave an aura of power, dark power, and it boasted too easily of how we could get killed. It was the main reason for my fears. The man looked at us, and even without the features on his face, I was somehow able to tell that he had a smile on. Then, I looked at Scarlet. She also seemed lost in thoughts, and it would be the best time to try to convince her, but she would despise me for it. It was better I carried out her wish, than to let my fear get the best of me. “We are willing to try. After

Scarlet and Elias couldn’t help but admit within themselves that they were overwhelmed by fear. Elias knew how dangerous the journey was, and this made him even more scared. “Well, hello.” The man spoke, in an eerie tone. “Who the hell are you?” Elias managed to question him, as they were both wary of him. “A question which actually isn’t the major concern. But I’ll tell you one thing. If you dare try to escape, because it’s only expected of you to want to run from me, you won’t be able to get to the world beyond.” “Uhn!” Elias exclaimed softly, not knowing whether to believe the man or not. “Yeah. To make things more understandable for you, I am the passage to the world beyond, which only means without me, you can’t go into the world beyond. So, now, I hope you know that it is only unwise of you to run from me. And if you have enough time to waste, you can actually run from me, and when you realize you’ve been wasting your time, you’ll come back, and definitely meet me here.” Bo

SCARLET’S POV It was dawn already, and was time for us to set out for her journey. If it was an outing, I would have been so excited about it, but then, it was a dangerous journey which we are just going on for the sake of a friend which we have taken as a family. Even from the name, the world beyond, one would have known that it isn’t a place one can take lightly. For Elias to have been so adamant on us not going there, it was evident that it wasn’t like other dangerous places that we have gotten ourselves into. “Are you certain you are ready?” Elias asked me as we headed towards the woods. “I am more than ready.” I responded to him, not wanting to sound discouraging. Even if I wanted to sound discouraging, it shouldn’t be from here when he could easily turn back and by then, whatever I do, might not make him change his mind, anymore.
