Davina’s POV
“Protect your brother, Davina. I am counting on you” Mother’s words echoed in my mind, and I watched as she shifted and charged towards the rogues without hesitation– I knew what was about to unfold, but I couldn’t stop myself from yelling, pleading for her to flee with Sebastian and me. She didn’t listen. I closed my eyes, unable to witness the scene that was bound to happen. When I opened them back, the scene changed. I found myself standing before Father and Mother. A strangled sob escaped my lips as I ran to hug them, desperate to feel their warmth again but– they pushed me away. They glared at me with hatred in their eyes, and I flinched from their gaze as they cursed and blamed me. “You failed us! You didn’t protect your brother! He is dead because of you, you!” “No… that's not true” I pleaded as tears clouded my vision, my heart shattering at the words that aimed to break me– to leave me utterly defeated. “You survived all by yourself, you left everyone to die. It's all your fault!” “No…No!” I tried to run to them but without warning, everything went dark as arrows pierced through me, forcing me back to reality. “Davina!” I sat up, gasping for air, hands clutched tightly to my chest. “It's okay, Davina. Everything is okay”. I instinctively leaned in against the touch that held me and as my body shook, tears streamed down my face, the pain in my chest becoming unbearable. I felt a hand stroke my back in an attempt to calm me but I didn't seem to hear the words that were being said. My heart pounded as a single thought echoed through my mind—the dreams had returned. “Davina,” Eva wiped my tears, but I gasped, quickly pulling away when I realized I had been clinging to her all along. “I—I’m sorry. I’m fine,” I straightened up, wiping my eyes quickly, not wanting her to see my weakness. I had sworn to myself that no one would ever witness me cry. “Hmm,” Eva seemed to want to say something, but stopped herself before she could speak further. “Do you want to sleep some more, you look tired and I'm sure the king wouldn't mind if you–” “No, I am fine! It was just a nightmare”. I quickly sat up and pulled away the blanket that was on me. "Alright, Davina” She patted my back “ You should take your bath first. I'll show you around the palace afterward, and then we can ask Emmanuel about your assigned duties." "Thank you, Eva," I said gratefully. She smiled and handed me a fresh set of clothes. I headed to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day ahead. "You know, I wanted to say this yesterday, but it slipped my mind," Eva whispered excitedly as we walked out the door. One of my hands held hers, while the other lightly brushed along the walls, imprinting every detail in my mind. "Hm?" I murmured, glancing at her as she suddenly stopped and turned to face me. "You're so pretty," she said, her voice soft. "I haven't seen anyone as pretty as you." My face instantly turned red and I muttered a ‘thank you’. I wasn't sure if she was telling the truth but it was good to hear nice words for once. I was sure she was just as pretty but I couldn't say it back because I didn't know what she looked like. Eva guided me through the palace, carefully pointing out the areas that were open, restricted, and strictly forbidden. She outlined the punishments for stepping out of bounds, mentioning that entering Hades study without permission carried the ultimate penalty—death. A chill ran down my spine as she shared the tale of a spy who, disguised as a maid, had met her end at Hades’ hands after entering his study without his permission. "Make sure all the bedding is changed, and the curtains too. I won’t tolerate any mistakes—consider this your warning. One slip-up, and you’re fired." "Hey, you there! Are you blind? Can’t you see the stain on the counter? Clean it up now, or you’re fired!" “You there! Actually, you know what? Forget it—you’re fired. Pack your things and leave.” “Someone is in a cranky mood” Eva whispered under her breath as we stopped. I could hear Emmanuel scream, ordering people around but Eva laughed. “But I understand, I heard the king was really angry at him yesterday”. “Why?” I asked, hand gripping hers tight without realizing. When people yelled, it brought back memories, memories I would rather not remember. “You don't know?” She said in surprise. “Well… it had to do partially with you. The dress you wore last night to the king’s chamber belonged to the late King’s mother”. My eyes widened, finally realizing why Hades reacted that way yesterday. He had almost killed me because of the dress that Stella and Marie gave me, but why did they– “Stella and Marie set you up. They were suspended for a week and their salaries were deducted by Emmanuel last night, not fired. It's probably because of their connection to Lady Evangeline”. Just as I was about to ask who Evangeline was, Emmanuel's yell stopped me. “Eva! Why aren’t you working? Do you expect the meals to cook themselves, or are you hoping the royal chef will handle everything?” "No, no, Sir Emmanuel. I was just showing Davina around the palace and helping her find out her assigned duties. I’ll get back to work now—I don’t want to risk making the king angry." Eva said respectfully but I could hear slight mockery in her voice directed to Emmanuel. “You–” Emmanuel sighed, stopping his word before turning to me. I felt his penetrating gaze on me for a moment before he said the words that had everyone around gasping in horror. "The blind girl will be serving directly under the Lycan king." "No fucking way," Eva muttered under her breath, and in an instant, all eyes turned toward me.Davina’s POV That instant when a sensation creeps over you, sending a shiver down your spine, and suddenly, you know you’re doomed. That’s exactly what I was feeling now. The whispers grew louder, and I could feel everyone’s stares on me, their gazes tinged with an emotion that made me uneasy. Was it... pity? “Poor girl, she's probably going to end up like the last one” “Hey, as long as it isn't us” Yes, I was indeed doomed. Eva stepped in front of me and spoke to Emmanuel, "But she's new. I don’t think it’s right for her to serve under the Lycan King, especially since she’s... blind." She hesitated, the word blind lingering awkwardly in the air. "King’s orders, Eva. Now, please, don’t bother me—I’m not exactly in what you'd call a good mood at the moment." Eva opened her mouth to speak, but I stopped her by holding her hand. “I understand. What should I do first?” I asked, hearing the satisfied hum of approval. It didn’t matter if I had to serve under Hades. I was leaving t
Hades POVI had woken up to a fucking boner.I stared at my sweats, a frown pulling at my lips as the air around me grew colder with each passing second. This time I had a dream– the dream had been about her, and when I woke up, the physical reaction to it was undeniable, pressing uncomfortably against the fabric of my pants.I had dreamt vividly about last night when I ordered her to strip, her figure seemed to be imprinted in my mind. I could remember the curves of her breasts in that bra, her slender waist, and enticing hips. This time, I didn't stop her as she began to undress completely. Instead, I listened to Cyrus urging to have her. I kissed her until she was breathless and I took her right there on my bed until her screams of pleasure echoed throughout the room.Running my hand through my hair, I sighed. What was happening to me? The effect of the mate bond was getting harder to resist, especially to Cyrus, he was getting much harder to control. Normally, I had full control
Cyrus POVI wanted her.I’ve never desired something so badly and not gotten it. Whatever I wanted, I had to have—whether it was the blood of those I wished dead or the thrill of playing with anyone I chose. Hades always ensured I got exactly what I craved. It had always been this way… until the day we went to the auction house and saw her for the first time. I was the first to catch her scent, and in that moment, when she appeared on that stage, something inside me snapped. I wanted nothing more than to take her away from the prying eyes of the men that looked at her like she was some commodity– to kill everyone of them, pluck out their eyes and end the pathetic lives of those who dared lay a hand on our mate. But Hades? That bastard didn’t flinch. He was an emotionless monster who didn’t feel a thing—not even for his mate. To him, she was nothing more than wolfless, blind, and weak. But I didn’t care. She was mesmerizing—almost too mesmerizing. Her beauty seemed to cast a spell on m
Hades POVEverywhere was dark and eerily quiet. I’d slipped into my own consciousness—a place I knew well whenever Cyrus took control or shifted. Just as he could take over in my human form, I could also take control in his wolf form. But this time, he’d forced the shift. And as I listened and watched him kiss her—I was pissed. It wasn’t because he was kissing her; she was our mate, so he had every right to do as he pleased with her. No, I was furious because he had challenged me—he’d forced the shift. How dare he.This was the first time he’d done something like this, but I knew I was partly to blame. Before I even realized it, I’d lost control—I’d kissed her. My body had reacted before my brain, and damn it, that sneaky wolf had used that to seize control. I hated disobedience. I hated losing control. And it all started the moment she came into our lives.“It’s okay; I won’t hurt you. I just need you to sit still for me, mate. Can you do that?”“I’m Cyrus, Hades’ wolf.” He said in a
Davina’s POVHades kissed me. Cyrus kissed me.And I kissed them both back.Technically, they were the same person. Even though I never had a wolf, this was common knowledge. Despite the distinct personalities that set Hades and Cyrus apart, they were still one.On my eighteenth birthday, I didn’t shift like other werewolves do. Every girl and boy has their first shift at eighteen, but I didn’t. That day was the day I lost everything—everyone. A medium once told me that my wolf might have hidden away because of the trauma. She said it had gone into hiding, but I didn’t know how to unlock it. So eventually, I just gave up.I gave up on trying to unlock my wolf and focused on finding Sebastian instead. Earlier, I had wanted to leave, to avoid getting tangled up with Hades and escape from this place. But somehow, here I was, sitting on his lap.Damn it.“What’s wrong? Would you rather have Cyrus here instead of me?”I sat there, frozen, unable to utter a single word, with only a towel co
Davina’s POV“Wait a damn minute! Are those… hickeys?!”“No—” I tried to say something, but Eva gently removed my hand from my neck. I felt her shocked gaze on me, and I sucked in a breath, keeping my head down. I didn’t know why I felt as if I’d been caught doing something wrong. He… he was my mate, so it shouldn’t have been wrong, right? But then again, I couldn’t tell anyone that the king was my mate—that was one of the rules he’d given me in the car.She looked like she wanted to say something but decided against it. “I must have seen it wrong,” she laughed awkwardly. “Come on, let’s get you something to eat. You must be hungry.”I relaxed slightly at her words, breathing a sigh of relief. She didn’t push further, instead pulling me along to eat.The dining area we sat in was designated for the maids. She explained that the king didn’t use the main dining hall; instead, he preferred to eat in his study. Since I was assigned to serve him, it would be my duty to bring his meals ther
Davina’s POV“Davina!”I stopped cleaning and turned toward the sound of the voice. Eva gently took my hand, pulling the rag from my grip. Though I couldn’t see her, I knew she was smiling. It had been a week since I arrived here, and I had grown close to Eva. She was the one who made this place feel a bit more comfortable—and she was my… friend.“Davina, let’s go into town,” she said, and I tilted my head in confusion.“Can we go out?” I asked, feeling her grip tighten on my hand. She’d told me before that we couldn’t leave because of the upcoming hunting games.“Of course, we can’t go near the boundaries surrounding the pack, but we can still go into town. There’s so much to do outside—it’s far livelier than staying cooped up in the palace. Emmanuel already gave us permission. Since the king isn’t around, he said we’re allowed to go, but he warned us to stay out of trouble.” She scoffed.I hadn’t seen the Lycan King for a week straight after what happened in his room. Eva said the k
Davina’s POVThe moon hung high, casting shadows across the courtyard. I stood in the clearing, my breath steady, my muscles tensed with anticipation as I watched the man before me with narrowed eyes.I swiftly moved to the side, barely avoiding the hand that came at me. Shifting my stance, determination fueled me and I charged forward, using my fist to direct a blow at him.“Too slow” He frowned as he deflected my attack effortlessly with his hand. I yelled in frustration and directed a kick to his side but he seemed almost bored as he avoided me, sidestepping the attack with ease, his eyes never leaving mine for a second. His attention was on me, watching and accessing my every move. His eyes flashed amber when he noticed my kick and he jumped back, dodging it.“Too predictable” He yawned, blocking my punch with just a casual flick of his wrist. Strands of my wet hair stuck to my face as I groaned, my breath coming out uneven. I watched him smirk, undisturbed and unbothered. I was
