Davina’s POV
“Davina!” I stopped cleaning and turned toward the sound of the voice. Eva gently took my hand, pulling the rag from my grip. Though I couldn’t see her, I knew she was smiling. It had been a week since I arrived here, and I had grown close to Eva. She was the one who made this place feel a bit more comfortable—and she was my… friend. “Davina, let’s go into town,” she said, and I tilted my head in confusion. “Can we go out?” I asked, feeling her grip tighten on my hand. She’d told me before that we couldn’t leave because of the upcoming hunting games. “Of course, we can’t go near the boundaries surrounding the pack, but we can still go into town. There’s so much to do outside—it’s far livelier than staying cooped up in the palace. Emmanuel already gave us permission. Since the king isn’t around, he said we’re allowed to go, but he warned us to stay out of trouble.” She scoffed. I hadn’t seen the Lycan King for a week straight after what happened in his room. Eva said the king didn’t usually stay in the palace often; he traveled a lot and I couldn't help relax a bit when I heard it. It wasn’t that I disliked Hades, but he terrified me. Whenever he was near, I couldn’t think straight, gripped by the fear that he might hurt or even kill me before I could understand why. They didn’t call him a beast for nothing. “I’d love to,” I said with a small smile. I wanted to go into town for one reason. I had searched through most packs for Sebastian, but I hadn’t found him. One of the few packs I hadn’t checked was the king’s own. The Kingdom of Astralon. Ten minutes later, Eva handed me a dress, insisting it was pretty. As she looked at me in awe, I didn’t doubt her, but… “Isn’t this short?” I asked, feeling a bit insecure. I hadn’t worn a short dress since I was seventeen. Father and Mother used to let me wear whatever I wanted, and I wore it with confidence. But now, I felt self-conscious. With my white hair and white eyes, I couldn’t help it. “Oh, please, you look gorgeous! We might be maids, but we’re still girls, and we’re allowed to look pretty and smoking hot too. I’m sure every guy will be staring as soon as you step outside,” she said, grinning. I didn’t care about that, but since she had lent me her dress, I couldn’t just refuse. “Is that a tattoo?” she asked suddenly, leaning in closer. I quickly stepped back, fastening the buttons on the dress. My bra must not have covered it completely. “It’s nothing,” I said, and thankfully, she didn’t press further. “You girls better be back before 6pm or else you're fired” Eva scoffed at Emmanuel's words as we walked downstairs and into the street. As we walked into the bustling town, it was undeniably livelier than the palace. I imagined the king’s kingdom must be truly beautiful. The air felt fresh and soothing, and I couldn’t help but relax as Eva hurriedly showed me around, her excitement infectious. I noticed casual glances in my direction, but I ignored them—I didn’t want to dwell on what expressions the passersby had as they looked at me. “Have you tried this? It’s so good!” she moaned, shoving a candy-like treat into my hand. I brought it to my mouth, and my eyes instantly widened as the sweetness hit my tongue. Goddess, it was delicious. “This too—a refreshing drink to quench your thirst in this heat!” she continued, pressing another offering into my hand as we moved along. She kept handing me things, and I couldn’t help but laugh, telling her to stop before I ended up with too much. “Won’t you run out of money like this?” I asked, holding her back just as she was about to head toward another stall. “It’s okay, I stole Emmanuel’s secret stash,” she giggled. My eyes widened in alarm at the thought of how we had been spending the money she’d swiped from the head butler. Eva must have seen my terrified expression because she burst out laughing. “Don’t worry, my silly brother will just give me a light scolding when he finds out.” “He’s your brother?!” I asked, incredulous. “Yes, he is. He might be stupid sometimes, but he’s a good guy,” she said, dragging me to yet another stall. I didn’t know Eva and Emmanuel were siblings; they had such different personalities. Still, Eva wasn’t as afraid of Emmanuel as the other maids were. “Oh my, these are gorgeous hairpins!” she exclaimed, her voice full of awe. She clipped one into my hair. “You’re so pretty! I’ll buy two of these so we can match!” she laughed, talking to the stall owner as she made the purchase. Suddenly, a gruff voice interrupted our moment. “Who is the pretty blind girl?” I didn’t answer. My frown instantly deepened. “She looks like a ghost, but she’s quite pretty.” “Hey, girlie, do you want us to show you around?” I could already tell they were trouble. I’d met men like this before during the five years I’d spent alone, and the best course of action was to ignore them. “Huh, she’s ignoring us,” one of them laughed. I quickly turned my head in their direction before looking back at Eva. “Eva, let’s go back.” She stopped talking when she noticed the men beside me. She must have realized the situation, because she quickly paid for the hairpins and grabbed my hand, trying to pull me away. But then, she suddenly stopped. “What are you doing?” she snapped, her voice angry. “Blocking our way like this.” “Aw, don’t be angry, pretty girl. We just want to show you around town. We’ve been watching you for a while, and it looked like you were having fun. We just want to make sure you girls have even more fun,” the man slurred, his words thick with intoxication. I sighed as Eva immediately shielded me behind her, as if trying to protect me. From the sound of their footsteps, there were probably three... no, four men. From their heavy breathing and the way they moved, they were probably big men. The fact that no one around us spoke up or tried to intervene told me they were likely the town hooligans. “It doesn’t concern you whether we’re having fun or not, now leave us be,” Eva snapped, her voice firm. “We are the king’s maids, so mind your next words and actions.” There was a moment of silence as the man processed her words. I noticed him shift his feet and glance left. I did the same, and that’s when I felt it—the weight of several gazes on me, not just one, but a couple. “And? We just want to play with you girls. We’re nothing bad,” the man spoke up again, his voice brimming with newfound confidence. His companions laughed, and the tension thickened. “Don’t be afraid of us. We’re not going to do anything bad,” he added, but I felt Eva flinch, instinctively pulling away from his words as though trying to avoid his touch. I frowned. “Davina…” she whispered, backing away slightly, her voice trembling. “We need to–” She didn’t get the chance to finish as one of the men suddenly yanked her away from me. Eva screamed, and just as another hand reached for me, I moved quickly, narrowly avoiding the grip. Without hesitation, I ran toward the sound of Eva’s scream and kicked the man holding her. A loud groan of pain echoed through the street as he staggered back. I pulled Eva behind me, standing protectively in front of her, my heart racing. The sudden silence around us was deafening as I faced the men, who were now stunned into stillness. I could feel the weight of their shocked stares on me, but I didn’t flinch. I looked at them coldly and muttered one word, my voice low but firm. “Leave us alone.”Davina’s POVThe moon hung high, casting shadows across the courtyard. I stood in the clearing, my breath steady, my muscles tensed with anticipation as I watched the man before me with narrowed eyes.I swiftly moved to the side, barely avoiding the hand that came at me. Shifting my stance, determination fueled me and I charged forward, using my fist to direct a blow at him.“Too slow” He frowned as he deflected my attack effortlessly with his hand. I yelled in frustration and directed a kick to his side but he seemed almost bored as he avoided me, sidestepping the attack with ease, his eyes never leaving mine for a second. His attention was on me, watching and accessing my every move. His eyes flashed amber when he noticed my kick and he jumped back, dodging it.“Too predictable” He yawned, blocking my punch with just a casual flick of his wrist. Strands of my wet hair stuck to my face as I groaned, my breath coming out uneven. I watched him smirk, undisturbed and unbothered. I was
Davina’s POV“Wake up, Davina. You need to wake up now” I felt a hand on my shoulder, shaking me awake. My eyes fluttered open, and the world came into focus. I had fallen asleep while waiting for Father, I groaned and sat up, staring at the person before me.“Mom?” I asked, trying to adjust to the darkness. When I finally did, my eyes widened in horror at the sight before me. Mother’s face was close to mine, but something was wrong. Blood was smeared across her cheeks, her lips trembled as she held Sebastian close and both had tears falling from their eyes.“Mom, are you okay?” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the pounding in my ears. The sight of the blood staining her clothes, dripping from wounds I couldn’t even make sense of, sent a chill down my spine. My heart raced and my hands reached out instinctively.“Davina, listen to me” She held my hands as tears fell from her cheek “Your father-” She took a harsh breath, trying to form coherent words.“Your father is dead.”T
Davina’s POVFive years later. “We have item sixteen, a twenty-year-old she-wolf who has been trained to fulfill a man’s every desire. Perfectly obedient, Perfectly broken, what more could a man want.” There were sounds of chuckles as Valen paused before continuing. “This item is only on lease for 15 days though and she must be returned in the perfect state so let's start the bidding at twenty silver!”.“Thirty sliver!” Someone yelled.“Sixty sliver” Another countered.I had my head down as I listened behind the curtain with the other people that had been arranged in a line to be sold like commodities. We were commodities if you think about it, the moment you entered the Veil Auction house, your life and death did not matter and you would be only seen as an object whether you liked it or not.“Eighty slivers!” Valen’s voice cut through the crowd. “Eighty silver, going once… going twice…” There was total silence as he paused for a breath before bringing his gavel down. “Sold!”Soun
HADES POVI tapped my fingers continuously in a rhythm as I gazed down at the stage below. My eyes were glued on the figure that had her head down, her hair is white, just like the little tattered dress that did nothing to hide her small body.“Ladies and gentlemen, our next item is a true prize among our ranks. I present to you a pure breeder”.A breeder, huh? I tilted my head with a frown as her scent- lavender and a mixture of honey continued to draw me in, almost like a spell, igniting my senses. “Item twenty five is rare, breeders like her have an extraordinary ability to pass on formidable traits, ensuring that any offspring will be powerful and resilient. Her bloodline is a rare treasure-one that can elevate any pack to greatness”.“Bidding starts at one hundred silver!”.“Three hundred sliver!”“Five hundred!”“Mate” Cyrus, who had been quiet since we got here, suddenly growled in my mind, making me scoff.“No”.“What do you mean no?” Cryus asked menacingly.“I can't smell
Davina’s POVThe Lycan King is my mate.I felt my heartbeat racing with each passing second, I tried to control my breathing and appear as small as possible away from him but when he leaned closer, I felt an intense spark from his touch alone, and a foreign sensation pulled between my legs, invoking a moan from within me.I held my breath and replayed his earlier words in my head. “No one can know you’re my mate” I swallowed and my heart tightened in pain. Why didn't reject me instead? Even if he didn't necessarily reject me, I could still feel the slight pain of rejection coursing through me.He didn't seem like he wanted me and he could have left me at the auction house if he didn't want anyone to know I was his mate so why did he buy me.My stomach dropped as a thought flashed through my mind. I closed my legs tighter and raised up my head slightly towards his direction but quickly looked down when I felt his eyes on me.He had remained silent during the rest of the journey. He ha
HADES POV“Claim her, Hades” Cyrus's voice resonated within me, almost like the devil tempting one to do its bidding.“I know you want her, Hades. You want to take her– to feel her” “Let's mark her, Hades. I want to feel her warmth. Her scent is driving me insane” Cyrus spoke again with an impatient growl but I ignored him, fingers flipping through the pages and eyes scanning the content of the file yet my mind was clouded with other thoughts.I couldn't pay the slightest attention to what I was reading but it didn't seem that what I was looking at was worthy of my attention either. Another waste of time, I frowned and narrowed my eyes.“Your majesty, the first agender today is the allocation of resources” The royal advisor announced with a loud voice. I didn't raise my head– only continued flipping through the poor attempt of a proposal with an unimpressed expression.“Your majesty, we need to allocate more funds to the northern region. More packs are being attacked by rogues and su
Davina’s POV “Get her cleaned up” Emmanuel ordered and I held the hem of my dress tighter. “Make sure she is properly dressed too and give her suppressant, she must not get pregnant since she will be spending the night with the Lycan king”. I froze the moment those words were uttered. A chill ran down my spine, my heart pounding in my chest. Every nerve in my body went rigid as my mind scrambled to process the weight of what had just been said. Did I hear wrong? Suppressant? Spending the night with the Lycan king? My legs almost gave way but I stretched my hand out to hold onto anything that was near me– I touched a hard surface and I held the edge of the table, keeping my body steady to stop myself from falling. "Oh, Moon Goddess. Is that true? What could the Lycan King possibly see in her?" one of the girls murmured, her words heavy with disbelief. I could feel their stares pressing down on me and they carried a weight of judgment and resentment. "Right? She looks like
HADES POV I rushed through the corridor, the sound of my footsteps muffled by the thick carpet. The air was suffocating, it felt like I was drowning. I couldn't breathe but I couldn't stop. I had to get to them—had to reach them before it was too late. As I ran, the air was thick with tension, heavy with the scent of something darker—blood. Lifeless bodies laid sprawled across the ground, ruined, mutilated and broken— left forever in the cold embrace of death. It was a sight that would leave even the goddess in tears. “Prince!” As I turned the corner, the warriors followed closely behind, urging me to turn back, that it was too dangerous but I didn't stop, I couldn't. “Please…” I silently begged as I stopped at the grand doors of the throne room. Blood splattered on the door and my heart lurched in my chest at the sight. I hesitated. It was a brief moment but I hesitated as I stood frozen in place. I couldn't bring myself to do it, I didn't want to open that door bec
