CHAPTER SEVEN

CAMERON

“GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY MATE!” I snarled. A very dangerous aura emanated from my body as anger rolled off my body in waves. I clenched my fists tightly to prevent myself from giving in to my beast's desire to rip the throat of the woman assaulting my mate. I was not a man who would lay a finger on a woman.

I ignore the looks of shock and surprise on the faces of the assailants and her accomplices and rushed over to my mate who was lying on the ground. Her body was covered in a mixture of dirt and her own blood. Her beautiful face that haunted me since the previous night was so battered.

I had been on my way to an attacked pack when I decided to make a diversion to the Cold Moon pack just to get another glimpse of my mate. Gray had been prancing in my head for hours nonstop. His restlessness was accompanied with demands to see his mate. A mate that we just met the previous day. Resisting him was fruitless so I ordered Landon to take a detour path to the Cold Moon pack.

I instructed him to wait in the car while I took a walk around the pack. As soon as I made my way around the pack house, her scent hit me. This time it was so strong in the air that I followed it as it would lead me to her. Thank the moon goddess I made it here on time. Just what if I hadn’t come at the time I did?

Hot blood coursed through my veins as I studied her severely beaten face. I could hardly make out her features, they were several cuts and bruises on her face. A tear slipped out of the corner of her eyes just as she blacked out.

How messy was the Cold Moon pack that they could be able to treat their own like this? What crime on earth did she commit to deserve such physical abuse?

The fury inside of me sought to unleash itself. But I would save it for later, my mate needed urgent medical attention. That was the most important thing right now.

I scooped her up in my arms, and hurried towards the waiting car to take her to the hospital but thought against it. Since she needed urgent medical attention, she would have it right here in her pack and no one would do a thing about it.

I turned to face the disgusting former Luna, “Show me the pack‘s hospital.” I ordered in a mean tone. She bowed in fright and quickly stepped forward, her trembling legs almost giving way underneath her as she led me to the facility.

I sat next to my mate as she laid on the mattress dressed in immaculate white sheets. Every now and then, I buried my head in her neck inhaling deep breaths of her intoxicating scent. My beast was demanding blood and sniffing her scent was the only way to calm him.

I had mindlinked Landon earlier on to join me in the hospital right after the doctor began to attend to my mate.

The doctor, an athletic young man, walked in and asked to see me for a brief talk. A low growl left my throat as I shot him an icy glare not willing to leave my mate all by herself. I did not trust any member of this messy pack of his.

“Your Highness, I'm afraid we ought to have this talk outside this room so it doesn't disrupt her healing process. She might be unconscious but then, her subconscious could still react to whatever she hears or feels in her immediate surroundings.” he explained. From the worried look in his eyes, I could tell that the situation was a bit bad. I wouldn't want my mate's health to escalate beyond what it already is so I decided to comply with the doctor.

“Do not leave her side for any reason.” I said to Landon who was standing at the other end of the room and he understood that it was an order. I gave her a peck on her head and bounded after the doctor out of my mate's hospital room.

“Your Highness, from the result I have with me, she has several minor injuries and a few pretty serious injuries which includes a broken nose, a dislocation in her jawbone and a sprained ankle. The bad news is that her wolf isn't healing her as fast as it should.”

“I can feel her wolf!” I snapped at the doctor even though I didn't intend to. Gray wasn't happy with what the doctor was insinuating.

“Erm… Your Highness, I don't mean that she has no wolf.” He said awkwardly, and shifted uncomfortably on the spot.

“What I meant was that, she needs her mate around her to speed up her healing, her fated mate.”

My expression brightened up at his words and turned cold again as his last three words became clear to me. Was he implying that I wasn't her fated mate?

“What are you implying?” My brows shot up in displeasure.

“Your Highness, Our Alpha is supposed to be her fated mate so I suggest he should keep her company. Her wolf's closeness to their mate would strengthen her way better and help her heal much faster.” He looked a bit scared and skeptical as he spoke.

My expression turned sour. I couldn't believe what my ears just heard. “Are you suggesting that I have nothing meaningful to do other than hanging around a werewolf who isn't my fated mate?” My cold voice was laced with terror.

His eyes widened in the realization that he had made a huge mistake. It was quickly replaced with regret, regret for uttering the most foolish words ever. I could see the fear in his eyes.

“Your Highness!” The alpha mutt that was recently sworn just a day before bowed to me as he rushed into the hospital.

My eyes burned with fury as they landed on him. Where was he as the Alpha of his pack while his mother battered someone else's child?

How could he be the alpha if he couldn't protect the members of the pack in just twenty four hours of his reign as an alpha?

“What were you doing as the alpha when this was going on right in your pack?” I narrowed my eyes at him in anger. I was in no mood for his fake loyalty and submission. He should save it for his pack members, they were obviously in need of it.

“Forgive me, your Highness. My Luna needed my attention.” He panicked as he offered a flimsy excuse as an explanation.

My expression darkened at his words. “So because your Luna needed your attention, every other member of the pack is allowed to die?” I asked through gritted teeth.

“We're so sorry your Highness. This won't repeat itself.” His mother quickly apologized, stepping forward. That was a wrong move from her as she only fueled my anger the more.

“What right do you have to appear before me?” My cold voice resounded off the walls of the hospital. She cowered in fear with my eyes fixed on her in a death glare.

My beast was furious again, he resurfaced as he battled with me for control. I knew this wasn't going to end well if I let him take control. He would likely snap their heads and earn me a query from the council.

‘Gray please let me handle this.’ I pleaded but he wasn't having it. ‘She could have killed our mate if we hadn't gotten to this place on time. I want her head!’ Gray demanded.

My fury had grown to it's peak and it was becoming outrageously hard to control myself. I looked at the woman before me as she trembled; “Get out!”

Gray’s movement became wild in my head as we watched her scurry out of the hospital. If she remained in my presence any longer, I would not be able to stop myself from dismembering her head from her body.

I turned to the doctor and issued a clear warning, “If anyone comes close to my mate, that fellow would be as good as dead, regardless of his or her rank.”

Just then, a soft cry was heard from my mate's hospital room.
