CHAPTER EIGHT

CAMERON

The cry from my mate's hospital room notified us that she was awake. I dashed into the room with the speed of light hurriedly sitting next to her on her bed.

A muffled groan escaped her lips again and all I wanted to do was grab her in my arms and comfort her. She looked extremely pale and I could see the pains in her eyes. Right there, I knew I needed to make the perpetrators pay for their sins.

“Sorry baby, I'll make them pay for this.” I assured her. I would protect her with everything in me, even to the last drop of my blood, I swore within myself. She flinched as my hand made its way to her hair in an attempt to stroke it.

I froze. Just how bad had she suffered in the hands of her own people? I wondered.

She fixed her gaze on me with all of her attention. I could see her struggle with grasping who I was to be by her bedside. “I am your mate.’ I said firmly. A crease formed on her forehead as she shot me a questioning look. “Your second chance mate.” I offered to add more detail this time.

Her puzzled expression changed into a relaxed one.

My eyes carefully inspected her broken nose, it seemed to be healing very fast. I shifted my gaze to her sprained ankle and gently pulled it closer to me, caressing it softly.

A weak smile appeared on her face and she leaned into me, closing her eyes as she drifted off to sleep. The purple bruises on the ankle were getting healed at a faster pace. I nodded in satisfaction, this was a good sign that her wolf felt my bond with her too.

She woke up feeling much better than she was before she slept off. Landon informed the doctor who rushed in to examine her again.

With a look of shock on his face, he turned to me. “Her jaw is completely healed.”

“Good.” I answered briskly. That is to say, I could leave with my mate as soon as possible.

He hesitated for a while, then made to touch her ankle to feel it. A low growl of disapproval rumbled in my chest.

‘Get a grip on yourself, man.’ Landon mindlinked me.

“I would make arrangements for her to be discharged immediately. She still needs as much rest as she can get.” An awkward smile crossed his face as he spoke. He stormed off in a haste not by any chance willing to spend another second in the room.

****

06:35 pm. I mumbled as I stared at my Rolex watch impatiently waiting for my mate outside the pack house.

A red haired girl walked out of the pack house along with my mate who has changed into a different dress. She carried what I suppose is my mate's luggage.

My mate had insisted on taking her belongings with her. I let her have her wish as she seemed to not listen to my promise of getting her a new wardrobe.

They both enveloped each other in a warm embrace. I shifted my gaze elsewhere, I felt like I should have been the one in my mate's embrace at the moment.

“Are these all?” I inquired, making them break from their unending hug. The said belongings were too little for a grown woman like her, I thought. What would a small sized luggage and a tote bag contain?

She nodded and raised her hand to rub her chin. I shot her an apologetic look, realizing that my question made her feel uncomfortable.

I made a mental note to still get everything a woman would need for her personal use. ‘And bigger luggage.’ Gray added.

I handed her luggage over to Landon who quickly took them to the car. While I walked down with my mate.

Just then, the 24-hour reigning alpha called after us. “Your Highness, please I need to speak with her.” He spoke in between breaths as he had hurried down here. He probably just got to know that my mate had been discharged.

“Say whatever you want to say here.” I said firmly, not throwing as much as a glance at him. My patience was growing thinner with every passing second spent in this pack.

“Your Highness, I only want to speak with her for a while.” I snapped my head towards him, shooting him a deathly glare. He must be delusional to think I’ll let my mate leave my sight for a second in this sham of a pack.

Without giving him any response, I gently pulled my mate along with me and we headed for the car. He acted impulsively by grabbing my mate's hand.

In a flash, I had him pinned to the wall with my claws digging into his flesh as it wound around his neck. “DON'T YOU EVER LAY YOUR FILTHY HANDS ON MY MATE AGAIN! Gray hollered, he had taken control of my body in a split second. The little alpha gasped for air with his legs thrashing about in suffocation.

“Your Highness!” my mate screamed and my head snapped in her direction. Gray was irritated by how she formally addressed us. Her eyes widened in alarm at our reaction and she took several steps backwards.

The look of terror in our mates eyes jolted Gray out of his rage. Although he badly wanted to kill the measly Alpha, Gray wouldn't do so in front of our mate.

His anger eased down very quickly and he relinquished control. I released our captive, throwing him to the ground and reached for my mate who was frightened to death.

"We were supposed to present ourselves in a good light and make her accept us but instead you go ahead to show her how scary we can be. I scolded Gray, at the same time beckoning on my mate with a soft look.

I stretched out my hand to her with a pleading stare. She hesitated a bit before placing her hand into mine. I walked her to the car with a small smile.

Landon spurred the engines to life just as I hopped in after my mate.

‘Just drive back home.’ I mindlinked him.

‘Also, make a formal complaint to the council and inform them of the happenings in Cold Moon.’ I added.

I sighed, desperately wishing that I could kill all of them without any query.

‘I would gladly do that in the blink of an eye.’ Gray offered.

I closed my eyes and laid back on the seat with my legs outstretched. I remained in this position until I felt my mate's eyes on me.

“What's wrong?” I asked her and opened my eyes just in time to meet hers. My heart raced in my chest as we looked at each other in a brief moment of silence. This werewolf sure did unimaginable things to me.

“What is your name?” Her small voice broke the ice. I froze as I realized that I didn't even know her name either. Heck! These cruel people almost got me separated from my mate before I could even get to know her name. I suddenly felt lucky that I made that last minute diversion to Cold Moon.

As though she read my mind, she spoke again. “It doesn't matter who asks first.” she looked up at me expectantly.

“You go first then.” I was suddenly eager to hear her name.

“Olivia Redwood.” She replied.

Beautiful..

“I am Cameron Flynn. Your second chance mate.” I couldn't stop myself from adding the next sentence.

“And you are a Prince right?” Olivia asked nervously as she fidgeted with the hem of her dress.

“You don't have to address me so formally as others do, just call me Cameron.” Her eyes light up in surprise.

“Cameron?” She raised her brow at me.

The sound of my name on her lip pleased me so well. “Yes baby.” I answered, pulling her onto my lap. I buried my face in her neck, nuzzling against it affectionately as I inhaled her intoxicating scent.

“Stop!” She breathed out. I looked up to see her pretty face glaring at me as a battle of emotions played across her face, the most prominent being anger.

I tilted my head in bewilderment. What’s wrong? I asked.
