CHAPTER FOUR

CAMERON

No sooner had I sat on the seat reserved for me, than my beast was on the verge of taking control. I fought hard to remain in control, releasing my Lycan aura as I reigned in my beast.

Everyone bared their necks, submitting to my Lycan aura including the alphas present at the occasion except this beautiful werewolf.

She stood straight and unbothered for a few seconds, then in the next, as though she realized herself, she bared her neck too in submission.

Something about her that got me hooked. It was deeper than mere attraction, I was completely smitten by her. As my eyes darted to her every passing now and then, the desire to own her arose greatly inside of me.

The oath taking commenced immediately after I made my entrance.

I wore a bored expression all through as the ceremony was honestly boring. These werewolves were just too extra, doing too much at once.

By the time the alpha had been sworn in with his Luna, I was already fed up with their shenanigans. I looked at the spot where the beauty that fascinated me was and our gaze coincidentally meet.

Her face flushed red in embarrassment, with her looking away. She caught me staring at her, yet I couldn't look away. I was almost sure that she was my mate except that I did not perceive her scent. But the pull I felt towards her was enough to convince me that she was something.

The newly crowned Alpha and Luna had come to pay their respects to me, and went further to exchange pleasantries with other ranked werewolves.

After acknowledging their greetings, I shifted my eyes to the spot where she was supposedly seated and she was no longer there. My eyes swept the crowd in disappointment. Where had she gone to?

Wow. She left when the royals were still seated. She’s got some nerves. I smirked at the thought.

Seeing as the swearing-in ceremony had been completed, I got up, ready to take my leave with my personal assistant Landon who was assigned to me by my Father, the King. Some ranked members of Cold Moon and some other packs tagged along to see me off. I smirked as they all hurried to meet with my long strides, every one of them, wanted to be in my good books.

“Just a moment,” I said assertively to my subordinates. I took a brief walk round the pack house if I could see her again. I desperately wanted to get one last glimpse of her before leaving her pack.

My lips curved upwards in a smile as she came into sight just by the other side of the packhouse. Although it was a little bit dark, I could clearly see her, thanks to my Lycan genes.

With my hands in my pocket, I stood with confidence, watching her as she walked leisurely. She seemed to enjoy the cool breeze of the night.

Suddenly she stopped walking as if having the feeling that she was being watched. I deliberately took long and fast strides towards her, closing in on her as she turned, making us bump into each other.

I instinctively reached out to her to keep her from falling. “Careful,” I muttered, even though it was a deliberate action on my part. As my fingers brushed her skin, a tingling sensation shot through my arm.

My heart sank. This woman before me was definitely my mate but she seemed to not know.

She lifted her face slowly with her large green eyes widening in shock as they locked in on mine.

Her face pulled up in a dazed expression and then she looked like she was going to scurry away. The fear in her eyes did not escape my scrutinizing ones.

Fear? Was that all she felt? I panicked.

I was almost sure she would recognize me as soon as our bodies touched. How wrong I was. My mind ran wild with suggestions of how I was going to claim her without scaring her. Would she not see me as crazy if I just plain told her she was my mate?

Her sweet scent of lavender was very faint but it was a good reassurance for me.

I smirked in an attempt to hide my embarrassment. It lightened the atmosphere, as her face flushed in embarrassment too.

My beast was almost losing it. Our mate did not recognize us. “Be calm Gray, so we don't end up scaring her away.” I advised.

Just then, the ranked members of her pack arrived at the scene. “Watch out, you blind wretched hag.” The former Luna shot at her, her voice dripping with venom. Pain flashed in my mate's eyes. I looked at her again but It was gone in a split second. My heart ached for her.

“Your highness, we're deeply sorry for the nuisance.” She said, bowing.

What the hell! Did she just refer to our mate like that? Gray, questioned. The urge to rip her throat that very moment appealed to me.

I shot her a cold glare, releasing my aura and suffocating everyone around me. I moved past them in rage and hopped into the black Porsche Panamera waiting for me. Landon was already seated at the driver's seat and he drove right away, speeding effortlessly through the dry trac onto the highway.

My mate, a nuisance? I feel so bad leaving her behind. Gray began to chide me for leaving our mate behind.

You shouldn't have left her in the hands of that arrogant woman.

What was I supposed to do? Tell her she was my mate and drag her with me? I sighed, recalling the pain in her eyes. What was she going through in her pack? Was she being abused? My mind was flooding with questions and I felt terribly sorry for her.

I took a deep breath and reduced my aura as it was keeping Landon on edge. I could see his nervous glances at me from the mirror.

“What the hell was that about, man?” he breathed out.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. “Find every detail about that female werewolf.” I demanded.
