Jane

I woke up to a knock on the door and I yawned, stretching in bed, wincing a little as pain ran up my body from in-between my legs. My entire body was sore as if I got run over by a truck consecutively last night.

I rubbed my eyes, running my hand through my hair, blinking at the brightness that suddenly penetrated my eyes, making me wince. I managed to open my eyes again, blinking as the strange environment registered in my head.

Where was I? This didn't look like my bed and why was my body aching so bad? I couldn't understand the soreness that existed in-between my legs but something told me that the dream I had last night was more than a dream. I glanced at the sheets that I was tangled in and nearly had a heart-attack. I was stark naked underneath it and there when I looked towards my right, there was a blood-stain on the bed.

What exactly happened last night? My memory was hazy and I had a pounding headache. I couldn't remember much, only bits and pieces. A familiar scent hovered in the air and I moaned subconsciously as I briefly recalled a handsome young man whose face wasn't really clear enough but I could feel that was well looking.

"Ma'am, may I come in?" A soft voice came.

"W-who is it?" I winced, knowing that a toad sounded better than I did.

"Room service." She said again.

I pulled the sheets around my chest, tighter, running my hand through my hair to smoothen out my hair that I knew was messy. I cleared my throat and called out to them, "come in."

The door opened and a pink-haired female walked in, pushing a breakfast trolley. She looked so darned familiar and I found myself staring at her like a creep.

She turned to me with a smile, "we have coffee and toast prepared for breakfast, would you by any chance be interested?" She asked.

I nodded negatively, least in the mood for food.

I blinked at her, hazy flashes of yesterday haunting my mind. "Do I know you?"

She turned to flash me another polite smile, "I was your waitress last night? Do you not remember?"

I blinked at her, mildly remembering someone serving me drinks. I was seated by the counter and beside me was the handsome man who's words echoed in my head but face remained blurred.

I thought deeper, further going down memory lane. My fragmented memories were  coming together now. I remembered finding out Kian was my mate during the ceremony.

I remembered the feeling of joy and excitement I felt as I looked at him in admiration.

And I also remembered how he had said the words that shattered my heart to smithereens, rendering me paralyzed, in pain and finally, numb. He had chosen to reject me and take her as his chosen mate.

He had chosen to humiliate me in front of

everyone, marking her right in front of me.

I remembered fleeing in frustration and annoyance, distraught from the heartbreak I was just dealt. I recalled entering the bar and taking a seat in the bar with a bleeding heart.

I couldn't remember how many shots I had taken but I could remember a hypnotic voice that made me want to forget my problems as he spoke to me.

My foggy memory couldn't remember how the conversation ended up but I did remember my back against the wall while he kissed me like a feral beast, numbing my pain, engulfing me in a fiery passion that I smoldered me, tainting me and he ignited sparks of pleasure.

"You uh, work here… too?" I asked, clearing my throat as my head ached even more.

"Yeah. The bar has a hotel. So I work night shifts there and morning shifts here sometimes." She replied, while cleaning the night stand.

"Do you remember the guy that I was with last night?" I asked.

She shook her head negatively, telling me that that was the first time she had seen him and my heart fell. I had at least wanted to see his face without the drunken state. I wanted to hear his voice one last time and feel his arms once more.

According to the girl, he had left very early in the morning. I sighed, knowing I probably wouldn't ever see him again.

The girl left the room shortly after and I was left to sit in silence. I ran my hand through my hair again and subconsciously looked around. The room was fancy in the eyes but one mistaken glance at the clock had me forgetting all about my soreness and flying out of the bed.

9am.

"Shit, shit, shit!" I kept muttering to myself as I scampered around for my clothes.

I was glad to find my bra and gown still in one piece and immediately hopped into the bathroom for a quick shower, all the while dreading going back home. I was so fucking late and I knew Elise and Hilda would be ready to really bite this one down, fueling Sullivan's anger even more.

I ran out of the bathroom and threw on the clothes, combing my fingers through my hair. I picked my heels that were scattered around the room and put them on then dashed out of the room.

"Sullivan is going to kill us… why are you going back there? You know they're still going to chew you out for attending the ceremony without their permission right? In fact, everything about what you're currently doing is screaming suicide so why are you still doing it?" Nala huffed.

I understood what she was pointing out but I had my reasons for going back. I had spent all my money on this dress and heels, leaving me unable to even fend for myself if I were to consider running away.

The waitress tried getting my attention as I ran but I was in too much of a hurry to even glance at her, let alone understand what she was talking about.

I ran as fast as I could, hoping I could make it home soonest. My heel broke, nearly twisting my ankle and although I fell, I still managed to get back up and keep running, ditching the heels in the woods. My heart raced as I tried to even think of what I'd say to them.

I saw the big black gate and my anxiety multiplied. I decided against using the front gate, hoping I could sneak in through the back door and slip all the way down to my room. I was overjoyed when I turned the knob and the door opened.

I quickly slipped in as silently as I could but almost had a heart-attack when I heard Elise's voice, "back from whoring around?"

The harshness of her voice had my startled form growing cold. Today, the rage in her eyes was a thousand times hotter than the one I had grown accustomed to.

"What do you expect mother, she did try to steal my mate, remember?" My heart skipped another beat when I slowly turned to find Hilda eyeing me down in disgust.

Elise gently stood up, making slow steps towards me while I took steps back. My head turned forcibly when a hard smack against my cheek, had me gasping.

"You dared defy me, Jane ? I gave you instructions and you defied them. How dare you?" She hit me again, sending my back slamming into the wall while I cried out in pain.

"You left your chores and snuck out to attend the mating ceremony? And to make it worse, you tried to force yourself on my daughter's mate. Have you grown wings?" She picked up my wheezing form, slamming my head against the wall.

Hilda laughed as she watched me try to get away from her murderous mother, cheering her mother on while she licked ice-cream, enjoying my suffering.

"N-no, please." I screamed out as Elise dragged me by my hair, throwing me against the countertop's sharp edge.

I cried out as my back hit the edge, ripping my dress and digging into my skin. I couldn't move, I was in so much pain, wheezing and coughing. She didn't stop, she kicked me repeatedly, not even stopping when she heard a crack come from my body.

I pleaded and begged but she kept kicking me, stepping on me, stomping me. She was hitting me with so much force and at some point, I couldn't move, I could only lie helplessly as the metallic smell of blood wafted through my nose.

My head was ringing and blood was dripping down my head, trickling down my nose. I clutched my stomach, unable to breathe as a hard kick to my stomach sent my back digging against the sharp edge again.

I was beginning to see stars, my breaths slowing down. She finally paused, squatting to my level, she dug the hair out of my battered face, taking in my helplessness, "next time you repeat this, don't expect me to be so gentle." She spat at me, making me close my eyes as the liquid slid down my nose.

She walked out of the kitchen and Hilda followed behind her. I was left to lie helplessly on the floor, unable to move. My wolf, Nala, was trying everything she could to heal me but she couldn't. I was too weak.

After hours of lying on the floor, I was finally able to pick myself up from the floor, wincing as my injured leg touched the floor. I began limping to my room, closing my eyes as pain ran through my body. I knew I had fractured bones but there was nothing I could do about it except to go down to my room and cry.

This was the closest I had ever been to death and even at that, Elise had no human empathy. Left to her, she'd have preferred I died on the spot so she'd cook up some lies about my demise and serve to the pack members that least cared.

I slid to the floor, hugging my knees to my chest, crying out. My life was a fucking mess. No one cared about me. I began wondering if my parents were even watching over me like I was thought to believe that spirits did. Because if they were, my life wouldn't be so full of agony.

I didn't know how long I remained on the floor but a sudden knock on my door had me wiping my tears, clutching my teeth as I forced myself to my feet.

I opened the door to find Hilda in front of me, "dad wants to see you." She simply said, not sparing a second to look at me.

I sniffled, knowing better than to keep the alpha waiting. I quietly limped behind her, biting down on my lower lip to silence the groans of pain.

I was led to Alpha Sullivan that was seated in the living room, stirring the wine in the filled glass that remained in his hands. His eyes ran down my injured form and he blinked, sipping from his glass and saying nothing. He didn't care. I really questioned if this man was indeed my father's biological brother.

"When your parents died, no one agreed to take you in, you know that right?" He slowly began in his rich baritone that made me fear him and resent him at the same time.

I looked away from him, wondering where he was going with this. Something about how he began didn't sit right with me.

"But we did and we gave you a home for the past twelve years and I believe I deserve some compensation or don't you think so?" He raised his eyes to pin me with a daring look. He was daring me to speak otherwise.

I was still trying to process his words when he continued, "by tomorrow evening, the Lycan king of Soul pack will be coming down here to take you. You have been offered to him to produce an heir for him. I'm assuming you have no problem with this arrangement, do you?" His aura grew terrifying as he paused the glass mid-way his lips to pin me astute eyes.

I dared not say anything to him but I knew deep down that my world was spinning me as I struggled to digest everything he had just said. My heart impossibly shattered even more, making me stagger back as a stray tear rolled down my shocked cheeks.

He hummed and waved his hands, immediately dismissing me while knowing very well that I wasn't okay with the arrangement but since when did Sullivan ever care about my opinion?

I quietly returned to my room, all the while recalling every rumor I had ever heard about the Lycan king. His name was believed to be Hunter Tiberius Williams and he was cruelty in human form.

His brutality, lack of patience and low tolerance levels had sent a lot to their early graves. He was astute, quiet, calculative with an intimidating aura that dominated all that stood before him or against him. He was a bloodthirsty kill machine who would slit your neck in an instant upon the slightest provocation and that was the person I was being given away to?

How worse could my life get? Hunter would kill me upon one look at me because I doubted he'd have the patience to put up with my cowering form.

"But you don't have to go to him." Nala spoke up, hating how they were imposing decisions upon us.

I knew she was suggesting running away again and this time, I didn't care that I was broke. I didn't mind running to the human territory to leave amongst them.

I rushed to my room, filled with determination to leave. I didn't want to go with Hunter, I'd choose death a million times over. I closed my door and rushed to my rickety old wardrobe to pull out my little old backpack. I knew it couldn't contain much but a few clothes and my parents' picture would do.

I packed them up, remembering to take my mother's necklace with me.

I was going to leave tonight and I wasn't going to look back.

I  quickly changed into a pair of sweatpants and a faded green t-shirt that I had laid out on the bed, for easier mobility. I glanced at my alarm clock on my night stand and sighed. It was 9:36pm. I was going to leave by 10:30pm; at least by then they'd all be fast asleep.

My anxiety kicked in as time drew closer. I was already fantasizing about my life away from here. I'd change my name and start all over. I had heard the humans were nice people and I hoped I'd be lucky to find a nice human willing to offer me accommodation.

Immediately it struck 10:30pm, I jumped out of the bed, slinging my backpack over my shoulders.

I gently opened my door, quietly poking out my head to survey the environment. No one was outside and the stillness of the house told me that everyone was asleep.

I began silently limping down the hallway of my room, bending to walk down the path that led to the kitchen where the back door was located. I made sure to be as quiet as I could but as I was about to head into the kitchen, I lost my stamina and my body hit the vase that stood on the giant elegantly crafted stool.

I heard approaching footsteps and limped faster into the kitchen, frantically searching for a place to hide. I was about to crawl under the countertop to hide when the light-switch flipped and the brightness in the room made me turn to find Hilda standing by the kitchen door.

Her eyes found the backpack behind my back and her eyes darkened as she growled, "are you trying to run away?"

Shit!

The one who did was Sullivan and I’m sure he’s dead right now. Same thing goes for Ethan. He’s probably dead.
