I sat quietly in the car as we drove for another hour while I tried to muffle my sobs. My aching body had blisters that were as a result of the extra beating I received from Sullivan last night after he found out that I had tried to escape.
The driver never even glanced my way and it made it easier for me to keep a straight face and hide the tears that welled up in my eyes.
We had been driving for hours and once we drove past the large sign-board that informed us that we were in Soul pack territory.
The driver killed the engine and came out of the car, opening the boot to carry out my bags. I gently climbed out of the car, ignoring the pain that shot up my legs.
A large cream coloured building stood with a wolf-head statue spouting water from its ears, into a large bowl. Trimmed rose bushes surrounding the fountain, five paths spreading from the fountain, that mood in the middle of the car surrounded field that served as an entrance.
It was beautiful but I was too engrossed in the panic that bubbled within me, making me sick to my stomach. I was now in the last place I wanted to be in and I had no means of crying.
The driver grabbed me by hand, dragging me up the wide array of stairs that led to the castle that filled me with dread.Guards stood by the entrance, blocking it off when they saw us stand before them. One of the guards turned to the man that had me trapped in a death grip and asked, "what's your business with this pack, foreigner?"
"I have a package for the Lycan king?" He lightly tilted his head at me, making the guards scrutinize the both of us before giving way for us.
Before we even got the chance to knock, the door opened and an elderly looking lady stood before us with her brown hair neatly resting on her neck. She was dressed in a long black gown and flashed me a curt smile when her eyes took me in before she turned to nail the bulky man beside me with a brow quirked up in question.
"Jane Miller." The man briefly said and the woman nodded in understanding.
"Indeed, she may come in." The woman said, raising her hands to collect my bag from my shoulder but I gripped onto it tighter.
She had clearly told him that he wasn't welcome to follow me inside and I gulped in fear.
The man nodded at her before turning to take his leave, leaving me all alone.
"This way." She beckoned on me.
I followed behind her, afraid to get into trouble with the king on my first day here. If the rumors I heard about him were true, then he wouldn't mind slaying me the instant he caught a whiff of my disobedience. He might probably strangle me.
We strolled down a regal looking hallway, our footsteps echoing as we walked. I glanced around, blinking at the expensive looking paintings on the wall and the majority of them were of men and women.
We stopped walking when we arrived in front of a big black door and the woman opened it. I nodded at her when she urged me to go in.
I walked in, blinking twice at the spacious and lovely painted room with a few paintings hanging around. A large bed stood in the middle and beside it was a table and chair. I was amazed by how simple yet classy the room looked.
"My name is Gail and I'm the head maid. If you need anything, call out to me. The Lycan king is currently in the middle of something urgent, when he's done, I'll come to let you know. But for now, I suggest you unpack and have a shower then await him." Her voice was brusque.
I hummed in response and she gently excused herself, closing the door behind her. Once she was gone, my tears broke free. I couldn't believe that I was going to be living under the same roof, breathing the same air of that horrible beast.
No rumor that I have ever heard about him, said anything good about him. They were always tales of terror, that always stirred the fear that slept in the depths of one's soul.
I remembered how she had asked me to take a shower and sighed. I smelled like sweat. I couldn't afford to meet the king like this.
***
I was startled by a sudden knock, pausing the act of massaging my skin with ointment, quickly stuffing it under my pillow and cleared my throat, urging whoever it was to come in. The door squeaked open and Gail stood before me, flashing me another small smile.
"The king would love to see you now." She briefly said, making me grow cold enough to chill my bones.
Hunter wanted to see me? Oh my goodness, my panic had surfaced, making me hyperventilate. I had my semi-damp hair in a little braid. I looked at the little black gown that I had put on and bit my lips, wondering if I looked okay.
"Miss, are you ready?" Gail asked again, arching a brow at my hesitation.
"D-do I look o-okay enough?" I dared to mutter, when I turned again to look at her.
I was a shaking mess, my nerves were all over the place. I could barely concentrate because my heart kept thudding as I imagined how my first encounter with Hunter would be.
"N-nevermind I shouldn't have asked." I said with a slight wave of my hand, damning to hell my appearance.
I quietly followed Gail down the hallway, trying to think up what to say, should he ask me a sudden question .
We paused in front of a big black door and Gail stretched forth her hand to knock, the guards eyeing me down in distrust as I stood behind Gail.
"Come in." A husky voice came.
I mentally braced myself to meet him when Gail stepped aside for me, gesturing at the door. My shaking hands reached out to open the door, doing everything I could to keep my panic under control.
A figure stood by the window peering outside. He had his hands folded behind his back and his aura was strong enough to suffocate someone. It was dark, dominating, intimidating, commanding respect without him even having to say or do anything yet.
It was said that the man before me was cursed by the moon-goddess. The curse, I heard, was placed on his wolf. He'd never be able to sense his mate. It was a punishment for him trying to go against her.
His aura was beginning to prove those rumors true and I had instinctively taken a step back, already cowering in fear, despite the confusion swimming inside me; nonetheless I tried not to let the tears brimming in my eyes fall.
The sweet scent of sandalwood, lavender and masculinity hovered in the air and I could feel my quiet wolf acting up. She was pacing restlessly in my head while my body felt compelled to seek out the source of the utterly delicious scent.
Tingles spread in my body as the smell hit my nose again and my confusion grew. I could recognise this feeling, this yearning that my body was suddenly gripped with and it was the same as when I had met Kian on the night of the mating ceremony.
"Mate." Nala spoke up.
What?
"Mate… he's mate." She said again, obviously confused.
Shocked, I stumbled back a little, nearly missing my footing in the process, having to stabilize myself with my injured foot and that pain that I experienced in the instant was the most excruciating of all. This monster was my mate? Why was life so full of endless dismay?
I winced yet again as my legs stung while my head kept spinning from the discovery. I didn't know how to feel to be honest. I was as dumbfounded as I had ever been but one thing was for sure, I was never going to tell him about it. It was for my own safety and sanity.
The last time I discovered I had a mate, it ended in an ugly rejection and he was just a mere Alpha warrior. Now if I was to tell a man driven by bloodlust, what was the worst that could happen? Death. He could kill me and I wasn't exactly ready to die.
"Careful, now." The utterly sexy voice came and I sincerely forgot how to breathe when he turned.
He was beyond handsome. With the sun rays casting a dull glow on him, I could see his gray eyes that brought clouds to the mind. His jawline was perfectly defined, a pointed nose leading to pale red lips that were a little bit fattened. His brown curls framed his face, resting on his shoulder and his olive skin seemed to glow a little.
He was extremely tall with muscles that made his black t-shirt cling to them, boldly outlining them for my eyes to see. I glanced down to see his lower region clad in black jeans that gave him a loose fitting.
I was mind-blown and I suddenly couldn't look away. He chuckled, giving me a sight of his pearly whites and perfect dentition. He could be mistaken as a god.
I watched him wave his hands dismissively and the guards that stood by the entrance quietly left, closing the door behind them. My heart raced as I wondered what he had on his mind. His eyes didn't give any hint of hostility but I couldn't trust those entrancing orbs of his.
He tilted his head at me, leaving me at the mercy of his scrutiny. "What is your name?"
He suddenly asked and I honestly nearly forgot my own name as a result of the panic that was going on within me. I took deep breaths, hating that I'd sound like a scared little mouse. That would probably feed his ego right?
"Jane Miller." I managed to croak.
He hummed, repeating my name to himself and I couldn't help getting addicted to how lovely it sounded from his lips.
"Do I scare you Jane ?" He suddenly asked after watching me like an eagle stalks his prey.
I couldn't dare look him in the eye. I could only lower my gaze and fiddle with my fingers.
He hummed again, a sound so pleasing to my ears, "tell me what you've heard about me."
I immediately looked up, blinking at me, thrown off balance to see the amusement in his eyes. Was he being serious right now?
"Cat got your tongue, little one?" He tilted a brow at me and I found myself blushing under the intensity of his gaze.
"You're a monster." I squeaked, waiting for him to grow enraged and send me to the land of the dead.
He laughed, making me confused even more. It didn't sound like a maniacal laughter but an actually sincere one.
"And do you believe that?" He asked.
I quietly nodded and he shook his head, "tell me, do you know my name?"
This beautiful man was playing with my reasoning and I didn't know if it was his way of making me drop my guard so he'd take me unaware. "Yes. It's Hunter Tiberius Williams."
He chuckled, "wrong. That's what the outsiders think. I think somewhere along the lines of spreading stories about my supposed 'cruelty', someone got my name wrong." He almost sounded very friendly as he dropped his hands.
I looked at him, narrowing my eyes at him, "then what's your name?"
"It's actually Sinclair. Sinclair Kai Monero." He shrugged at me and my jaw dropped. He noticed it and wiggled his brows at me, "very different from the name you mentioned, correct?"
I nodded because it truly was. "Why didn't you bother correcting the wrong notion of your name because you seemed to be aware that it's being mis-said?"
He shrugged again, "I like the shock it brings to the few people opportuned to know my real name. I actually do love to play along as Hunter, fitting the description to all that deserve it."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I didn't even bother hiding my shock. This man was something else entirely.
Silence descended upon us and after a moment of painful silence, Sinclair spoke up, "I'll love to continue this conversation but I only merely took a brief break from my meeting so if you'll be kind enough to wait for me in my room, I'll be honoured."
His politeness struck me as odd and I stumbled back a little, looking away from him to calm my racing heart.
"I'll take your silence as approval. I'd link Gail and ask her to take you to your room." He nodded at me before going silent, while I stood there rendered dumb. The smell was doing things to me that I couldn't wrap my head around.
The door soon opened and Gail walked in. She bowed in front of the king and he gestured her up, moving his hands to point at me. She nodded and turned to me, gesturing at the door.
I quietly followed behind her, eager to leave his space immediately. He was confusing me and though I felt bad about not telling him I wasn't his mate, I couldn't afford to drop my guard around him.
She led up the stairs, and I walked behind her, sucked into my thoughts to even glance around. She led me to a huge mahogany brown door and halted, "master said you should wait in his room, you may enter."
I looked at her for a long while before glancing at the big door, my heart thumping wildly in my chest. Once I gripped the door handles, Gail turned and excused herself. I watched her back till she had disappeared down the stairs and turned to face the door.
With a deep exhale, I summoned enough courage to open the door and my jaw dropped at the sight that befell me because nothing in this world could have prepared for what I saw.

JaneEverything was like magic. The bed was the first thing I saw which had my eyes watering up. It had seven pillows at the head of the bed. The covers were enough to cover me up during winter and it would keep me warm.I remembered my old bed and I suddenly remembered that I had not even slept in a bed in years now.I had either been on the floor or on a mat which did not help my body. I was lucky I was a werewolf or I would have been deformed by the awkward sleeping spaces I had to be confined in.Since I healed really quickly I did not have any trouble having to sleep in a confined space as I would be okay within a few hours of getting up.My eyes darted to the shelf which had a flower vase with multiple books in them.I could not remember having books in my possession in the former house. I was always denied having everything. From nice clothes to books to shoes. Heck I didn’t even have a phone or have the luxury of using any of the technology in the house.I had to be pushed asi
SinclairI looked out of the window with my hands held behind my back. I was enjoying the view while also thinking of the young woman who had been in the room with me.She intrigued me but I didn’t know why.She had called me by my stage name or should I say my monstrous name and it had been a sad thing to hear it from her lips. I thought I had gone past that stage of my life where I would still be remembered by my savage past but the rumors had kept up and I wasn’t about to change it.The door opened as I turned to see Gail, the head maid, get into the study. “Did you take her to my room?” I asked the maid as she stared at me silent and in confusion. I immediately knew something was wrong. “Gail, did you take her to my room or did you drop her in a random room?”“My apologies master Sinclair,” she said. “I had no idea that is what you said.”“Gail, you need to listen to me every time I mindlink with you and give orders.”“Yes sir.”“It is very important.”“I understand sir.”“This
JaneWatching him standing there with his hands in his pockets had me wondering if I was even going to make it out of here alive.I had his aura battering me around and my heartbeat increased. I had the fight or flight response causing my feet to get jumpy but I couldn’t fight him as I didn’t have the strength for it. I could make a run for it but how far would I get before I would be caught?“So tell me,” he walked to me with a straight face. “What seems to be the problem?”I looked at the food and the room, scared for what he would do to me if I talked. The beatings I used to receive at home paled in comparison with what I would receive here if he caught a hold of me.He was going to destroy me and watch me scream for help.“I don’t have time for this, so you had better start talking,” he sounded pissed.“Why am I here?”“Isn’t it obvious?”“I know, but… why am I here? Why did you choose me?”“You were available.”“Can I leave?”“You belong to me now.”“I don’t want to. I’m not a pe
SinclairWhile talking to her I found her eyes shifting away from me from time to time. Even when I would order that she looked at me, she would still find a way to avert her gaze. This frustrated me seeing as she was supposed to be my mate. I walked to her to hold her hand as she stopped talking, her heartbeat racing.I felt a spark tingle on the tips of my fingers and I immediately knew I felt a mating bond.‘Did you feel that? Because I felt that,’ my wolf said within me.I was sure I had not been mistaken in the slightest. This was clearly a mating bond. This meant that my search had come to an end.She took her hands away from mine as she shuddered backwards. I could see that she was still scared, but who could blame her. What I had been called over the years was enough to make anyone afraid.I was only a monster and an out of control beast to those who challenged my pack. I was a father and a leader to my own people, protecting them from harm and showing them that I could be tr
Victoria“Gail!” I yelled when I entered the palace. “Gail! Where is that woman?”I walked up the stairs, tossing my bags and groceries to the maids who lined up to receive them.I heard a thud as I turned back to see a celery on the floor. The maid who was supposed to catch it frightened and shivering where she stood.“You’re fired,” I said as the maid started to cry. I turned to see Gail before me. “You scared me for a second.”My heartbeat had already increased as I looked at her and noticed there was something amiss.“Welcome back my lady,” she smiled. “You cannot fire her my lady as that is my job to do. She is fired only when her crime has been reported to me and she has been deemed unworthy of her position.”“Who made you head of the maids?” I scoffed.“The alpha did. It’s in my name, Gail, the head of the maids.”This had me rolling my eyes as I stepped forward, my heels clanking against the tiles when I got hit by it again.I stopped to turn around and face the maid. “What is
Victoria's pov“Give it to me straight Gail,” I said while taking off my coat to give to a maid. “Who is she? Where is she from? What does she want? And is she pregnant? Give it to me straight.”I had called the head maid into my room to question her and learn about the strange woman I had seen in the alphas room. There had to be an explanation for it.“I am not under any obligation to answer you ma’am,” she said with a smile. “I only answer to Alpha Sinclair.”“I am the Luna you twat.”“It has not been officially stated. You are only his mate.”“Do you dare to insult me and look down on me?”“I do not ma’am. I am only stating what we all know is true. If you have a problem with the other lady and if you have any questions then I suggest you tell the alpha about it.”“Get out this instant!” I growled as the woman bowed before leaving. I looked at the maids standing around the bed in anger. “And what are you three doing here? Get out!”They all bowed before leaving the room as I paced
Victoria“Go get me something else!” I yelled at the maid who scurried off.“Please tell me why you’re shouting at the maid is basically because of the drink and nothing else,” a voice said behind me as I turned to see my best friend, Ava.I smiled briefly before showing her a seat before me.“Here is your drink ma’am,” the maid said as I sipped it and liked this one better.“Good, now go get my friend the same drink,” I ordered to the woman who bowed before scurrying off.“What’s got you nippy today?” She smiled. “Are you okay?”“I am not,” I sighed, dropping the cup on the table. “It turns out my…”I suddenly remembered the threat Sinclair had made as I wondered if telling Ava would be dangerous.“Come on,” she noticed my hesitation. “You can tell me. It’s not like I’m someone else.”“Fine,” I sighed. “Sinclair brought a random girl into the palace to be his mate from what I can sense. Can you imagine the effrontery? He could not even respect our bond.”“Why are you acting surprised
JaneWhen Sinclair took me into the room I watched him walk to the window to stand with his hands clasped together like he was thinking.“Can we talk about what just happened out there?”I asked. “Who is she? And do I have to deal with her every single day?”“She is my wife,” he blurted as I nodded.“Your first mate,” I chuckled feeling a bit disappointed. “So I’m not even your first.”“No,” he sighed.“And when were you going to tell me about her?”“You arrived today, I don’t think you should be asking so many questions.”“I should so I would know what I’m dealing with here. If you were not available I would have lost that fight and the moon goddess knows what would have happened to me.”“Nothing would have happened to you. Now stop whining and let me think.”I plopped down stubbornly on the bed with my arms crossed. Whatever he was thinking about was extremely important but I still wanted answers.“Fine,” he smiled. “You should not be swayed by her ferocity. Underneath all that rage
Jane’s POV“I’m coming for you Sinclair,” I muttered before running out of the pack at high speed. With each step I took I could feel my speed and strength coming back as I zipped through the pack leaving the pack to the mercy of a rampaging Sinclair.I ran for minutes, passing a wreck site before meeting Martha and the rest of the pack on the road heading for Sullivan’s pack.“Are you okay?” she asked with indigo floating to me as I nodded.“I am.”“Where is the alpha?”“He lost control and right now he’s destroying the entire pack.”“Good for those bastards,” I heard Indigo mutter with some of the witches muttering in agreement.“Those people didn’t do anything wrong to him. The one who did was Sullivan and I’m sure he’s dead right now. Same thing goes for Ethan. He’s probably dead. Sinclair has so much anger and rage in his body that he would do anything to break through the world if possible.”“It’s the magic. He’s lost his humanity,” said Martha. “I’m guessing you used the hex.”
Sinclair’s POVShe nodded looking at the hex. She concentrated on it, using her magic to infuse into the hex.“Are you thinking of how to put it on?” I asked her as she nodded.“Just give me a moment.”I would give her the amount of time she needed. So long as I would get my super strength at the end of the day. I would rather die an alpha's death than escape a coward. She closed her eyes, putting her thumb to her mouth as she bit it and poured some blood on the hex which turned to a phone-like device with a lever. She pushed it down with two holes appearing on its side. Soon enough the holes released a lot of smoke in my direction before going out into the open.I felt my strength returning slowly.“The smoke is getting heavier,” she said to her feet.I casually stood up, breaking the chains holding me down. I was at full strength now and I could still feel my powers growing.I grabbed hold of her chains, breaking them off.“I don’t feel so bad. I mean, I can still feel my powers gro
Jane’s POVHe sighed, looking to his knees. “I even had a fight with the witches before leaving. She was trying to explain something to me and I pushed her aside in anger. I wanted to understand why you would cheat on me so I decided to come here on my own and see what was going on.”I couldn’t blame him. Ethan was a snake. Ethan had made me leave the pack anyway.“Ethan was behind this all along,” he blurted as I stared at him in shock.“He what?!”“He did so much to you that you don’t even know it’s from him. Ethan needs to be stopped permanently.”I agreed with him.I told him about the hex Martha had created for me which would amplify my powers and he was fascinated by it.“So how does this work? Do we say some magic word or do we just use it alongside your powers?”“Magic words are fine. We’ll use the magic hex like a smoke screen to escape but we have to be very careful as the hex has different sides to them.”He tilted his head. “What do you mean?”I could see his wounds were n
Sinclair’s POVNow I had to deal with my stubbornness. It had brought me to the end.The door opened again with two hefty guards getting in.They looked at me and opened my cell, dragging me by the chains out of the cell.I didn’t expect them to treat me nicely since I was going to die anyway and I couldn’t pretend how much it hurt, leaving everything in the care of my brother. He was a wrecking ball. The pack would crash in a few days.He lacked the leadership skills I had. He was impatient, unkind and crude to people. There was no way he was capable of leading the pack.I was dragged out of the building with the crowd screaming for my head to roll. The guards took me to a podium to tie me down to a ledge. There I would stay and wait for my execution to arrive.***Jane’s POVI was dragged out by one of the guards as they said the alpha was about to be killed off so I needed to see him.He dragged me out of the room like I was a child and we were out of the room soon enough, walking
Martha’s POVNow this man’s words were the last straw for me. I stood up with a frown.“Those who will ride with me to take out Ethan should follow me,” I walked to the door. “Those who choose to stay have sided with Ethan. You don’t know how dangerous you are until you have tried fighting the beasts you fear.”Walking out of the throne room made me feel weak. What if no one followed me? I thought to myself. What if I walked out and looked back only to find no one but myself? That would hurt. Everything I had given to this pack would be taken for granted. No one would see me and Indigo as leader material and I would not be chosen to lead alongside indigo again. When I reached the gate, I heaved a heavy breath, turning to see everyone from the throne room before me. Even the ones who had refused to follow were present.“You all showed up,” I smiled. One of the wolves stepped forward. “I figured since we were going to die anyway, we might as well make it mean something. The people in t
Martha’s POVMy eyes darted from big to small, taking in their sights. Anyone who moved carelessly would take in my wrath which I was glad to give off.“Anyone who has something to say would say it when the time is right. For now, I would advise you all to sit down and let her finish with the story.”Everyone settled down as I waved for the girl to continue but she told me she was done. The story was unbelievable. Sinclair, defeated? That was not possible. Even I found that hard to believe. It was Sinclair we were talking about. There was no way he would be beaten by anyone. I could not even fight with him on even grounds without taking a beating. How had he lost?Yes, she had said he was taken down by three alphas and a lot of wolves, plus he had been shot by archers who had wolfsbane infused poisoned arrows but it wasn’t a concrete story I would believe so blindly.“Are you sure of what you’re saying or you’re making stuff up?” I asked the wolves on my side for a change. “Because le
Jane’s POV“Do you even see how ridiculous you sound?” the old alpha growled. “You would die for him? You would prefer dying with him? I wasn’t even going to kill you yet but imprison you until you die but if that is the route you want to go through then so be it. I will take off your head alongside his! Is that you last wish?”“That is my last wish,” I confirmed. “I want to die alongside my alpha. I would rather go with him than be in this world without my mate.”Damien stepped forward putting his phone into his pocket. He was visibly worried by what I had said.“Are you mad?” he growled. “You seriously want to do this? You want to let everything you’ve created go just like that because of him? You would rather die for him than live? What about your children I kidnapped the last time? They don’t mean anything to you?”“Stay out of this rogue,” I growled. “It’s not like you care about me. When you chose to kidnap my children you don’t care. I suggest you sit this one out.”Sullivan fe
Jane’s POVWas this all my fault? Why had he not seen this attack? This was so unlike him.“Don’t blame yourself for it,” he laughed louder this time. “He was bound to fall someday. It was only going to take some time.”When he was done, he walked to the television, disconnected his phone and left.I was left alone for hours as the guilt penetrated my soul. I had single handedly killed the alpha and destroyed the pack.If I had actually talked with him and let him know of my plans this would not have happened. Now I had destroyed everything he had built from the ground up. I had embarrassed him and killed him. This was all my fault. Why didn’t he go to Martha and indigo? I had given him the hint to go to them. Or had Martha not told him anything?I had been captured, he was supposed to know that I would be here after talking with the witches. Now I felt really guilty and my heart sank with unhappiness. Watching those videos and seeing him in that awful state made me shed tears of sad
Jane’s POV“Ethan?!” I gasped. This was a surprise as he laughed.“Surprise.”“Are you here to rescue me?” I laughed. “I knew Sinclair wouldn’t trust that I was in the pack. These guys…”“Kidnapped you, yes, I know,” he completed with a cold smile.“Yes, and they held me back. The guy on red there is Sullivan, the other one is Damien and the…”He turned to the men and spoke to them in hushed tones as they nodded, leaving with the guard. Now we were alone, behind closed doors.“What is going on?” I asked. “What did they say? Are they going to release me? Did they say anything about releasing me?”“Jane,” he said as I looked at him. “Yeah.”“Shut up. Just shut the fuck up!”I was taken aback by his sudden outburst. I had not expected that. What was going on?“Are you okay? Did I do something wrong?”“You don’t seem to care about my feelings for you,” he sighed.“Please stop and help me.”“I seem to forget which one of us is in chains and which one is free. Because last time I checked,
