Author’s pov

Lycan King Greg made his way down the long corridor of his castle, boots sounding against the stone. He hadn’t stopped thinking about it since he’d returned. He had spent weeks travelling all across the land, announcing himself and more importantly, getting stronger. It was a long hard journey, but it would be worth it in the end. Now he was back home to where his real power source emanated from and he wanted to feel it running through him again.

The double doors leading into the throne room swung open for him as Greg approached and entered without hesitation.

Tom, his Beta was already there waiting for him.

Tom stood tall with respect. His broad shoulders were hunched forward under black slicked hair with sharp high cheekbones features.

“Your Majesty, welcome back,” Tom said with a smile that reached his eyes as he held out his hand to shake Greg’s.

Greg smiled at him and took the offered hand in a firm grip. “It’s good to be home,” he said, his voice low and steady. “I

Lyra’s povI was pacing the halls, getting a feel for the place while they finished up my room. There were so many people around! So many Lycans of all shapes and sizes. I could hear their hushed whispers as they talked about me. I smiled and nodded at a few but the looks they gave me in return made it clear that making friends won't be happening any time soon. I felt their gazes burning into my back as I walked by and couldn't help but catch pieces of what they were saying.“Who does she think she is?” one muttered."She's just a wolf, she doesn't belong here." another voice said harshly. "She's nothing. Even a baby Lycan could tear her apart." someone else sneered.I gritted my teeth, keeping my head straight ahead. I wouldn’t let their insults get to me. It stung like hell, but they couldn’t see that it did. I had to be strong here. The Lycan King brought me here, and I wouldn’t allow anyone to treat me as if I were beneath them. I still had some pride left in me whether they chos

Lyra’s povI faced the Alpha, angered and confused. I had been holding it together, but everything—the Lycans, the comments, me being a pet—was wearing on me. I couldn’t delude myself into thinking this was home; I was an outcast here—a freak.“So,” I asked, my voice calm as still water over jagged rocks. “Am I interesting?”The Alpha, who had been silent for a moment, glanced at me with his brow raised, as if he was going to reply. I then cut in again with, “As a pet?” as he let out a long breath that spoke of frustration. I was asking too much—probably even crossing the line. But I didn’t care. If we were all going to be living in this pack, then I needed to know exactly where I fit in… and who better to ask than the most powerful wolf in it?“You’re not a pet.” He replied, in a tone so neutral it got me mad. “But that doesn’t mean you aren’t a part of something much bigger now.”I arched an eyebrow at him as I wrapped my arms around my middle. Somehow I wasn’t reassured by his word

Author’s povIt was late and the moon was high in the Lycan Kingdom. Most of the pack had gone to rest for the night. The air was silent with only a few howls in the distance.Inside his grand castle, King Greg was getting ready to go into his chambers. He had spent all day working with his kingdom, training with his warriors and handling everything that he owned as king. He was tired, every part of him ached from everything he did as a king and just when he was about to take off his tunic there was a sudden knock on the door.Greg frowned. No one ever came to his door at this time unless it was urgent. He wondered if he kept quiet, maybe the person could leave but the knock came again and again as he growled impatiently and hit his feet. Opening the door Greg looked down to see one of the eldest members of the pack, an elder who had been an advisor long before Greg became king. The elder, a man with a long white beard and eyes which seemed to pierce one’s soul, stood in the doorway.

Lyra’s povI woke up that morning as I had no memory of how I had gotten to this place. I had a splitting headache as I sat up. This morning felt like it was one big dream as my memory started to come back.I yawned and looked at the windows to see the morning sun brimming through it. My body was shaking as I had had a long day from my pack to this Lycan pack and I knew that this new day would not be easy on me.I was here now, with the Lycans. Thousands of miles away from my home, surrounded by strangers who either wanted to spit on me or laugh at me. I felt so alone at this moment. Helga had promised to be by my side no matter what happened. I sure hoped she meant that.Just as I was about to sit up, I felt like something was off. A presence outside my door. I wondered if maybe I had been imagining everything that was happening. But that all shattered when there was a sharp knock on my door as I got up to open it.The minute I did so, I held my breath as I looked at the man before

  • The Lycan King's Mate   Chapter 49

Lyra’s povI stepped out of my room that morning, feeling a little better after my bath but still with the building sense of chaos I had woken up with. It didn’t also help that I had had a meeting with the beta and I gulped thinking about it. The packhouse air was cool against my skin but I barely felt it. I was too preoccupied by the looks the maids were giving me.While I walked through the packhouse, I could see the way the people around me stared at me like I was dirt. Like I didn’t belong here.I knew that they were lycans and I was a wolf but this… this was too much.Their colourful eyes were scornful and icy each time they met mine. Every time a maid passed me, I felt as though she was hissing about me to her neighbour. I didn’t know what to do and I tried to keep my head screwed straight on but it was not working.I heaved a sigh as I kept on walking away, telling myself that I was just being worried for nothing. But I wasn’t worried about anything. It wasn’t just in my head.

  • The Lycan King's Mate   Chapter 50

Authors povKing Greg had spent the better part of the morning in his study, but his attention hadn’t been on the pages upon pages of important documents strewn across his desk. It was on something else and he leaned back in his seat as he wondered what he would do next. Eventually, he decided to check up on Lyra instead. His mind needed a break from it all. With a quiet sigh, he shut the old book in his hand and rose from his plush chair. The room was easy enough to leave behind as Greg strode through well-known corridors, heading for his destination.Eventually, her Corridor arrived seemingly on its own as he got to the door and knocked on it while keeping his breathing level."Come in," came her soft voice from the other side. He pushed it open and entered. The room, Lyra's room, was small and filled with morning light from the big window. Lyra sat on the edge of a bed with a book in her lap; she stared at him with bright curious eyes but didn't speak.“Good morning,” King Greg sai

  • The Lycan King's Mate   Chapter 51

Author’s povAfter their silent stop at the café, King Greg and Lyra made their way to his sleek sports car. It roared to life as he backed out onto the road, and from there they went. Lyra sat with her legs crossed in front of her. Her hands lay perfectly calm in her lap. She was thinking through what they had said… what they were about to do… and while she hadn’t found the peace of resolution yet, she wasn’t as tense as she’d been before. The king looked over at her for a moment, then turned back to watch the street.“I am going to show you something,” he told her. Lyra turned to him, curiosity briefly flickering in her eyes. “What is it?”“My pack,” he said simply. “You’ve been here a while now – but you’ve not seen it. I want you to see what it is to be part of this world.”Lyra nodded slowly, though a small knot of anxiety formed in her stomach. She had spent most of her time in the castle, avoiding the other lycans. The thought of being out in the open, surrounded by them, made

Author’s pov When King Greg and Lyra got back to the palace, the king had a grand dinner. He was going to introduce Lyra to the rest of his family and some other important members of the pack. Plates were clattering, glasses were being filled with wine quickly, and laughter echoed through every corridor. He had the maids get Lyra new gowns as she wore them and the jewellery and showed up with him at the party he had made that night. The king led her down one hallway in particular where several doors spread out across each side. “Tonight you’re going to meet a couple more family members of mine,” he stated immediately as if expecting protest but also not caring either way. “They’re high up there in rank so they always stay pretty close by.” Lyra nodded, feeling nervousness turn her stomach. She wasn't accustomed to formal occasions like this, not in a place where she still felt so out of her element. But if Greg thought it was necessary, then she'd do everything she could to mak

Lyra’s povShe smiled at me, and it was a smile I knew. “Good morning, Lyra,” she said. “I made you breakfast.”I stared at her, unable to understand what I was seeing. How could she be here? Then, I saw the bandage around her arm, the blood staining it a dark red. My stomach clenched with sudden recollection—the cave, the stranger, my fight for freedom. Yes, I had fought with her last night.“Your arm…” I whispered, guilt washing over me.Helga glanced at her arm and shook her head. “Don’t worry about that. You cut me pretty good, but it wasn’t your fault- you had no idea.”I swallowed hard, trying to speak. “I… I thought you were someone else.”She laughed quietly. “I thought as much.”I looked down at my hands, my fingers shaking. This couldn’t be happening. I was supposed to be alone, supposed to run from everything and everyone I knew. But there stood Helga.“How did you find me?” I managed to croak out the words without raising my voice much higher than a whisper. She sighed, p

Lyra’s povI didn’t doubt for a second that if he saw them to be a threat, he would just wipe them out. Literally. Greg would do his best to try and protect me, but what if it wasn’t enough?I couldn’t take that risk.I took a deep breath. I had to move fast. The next couple of days, I kept acting normal.I smiled when I had to. I went to the meals. I let Greg kiss my forehead and hold my hand in public. But every minute, I was plotting.I started taking small things from my chambers—nothing too noticeable.A dagger, Jerked meat, A flask of water, A cloak. And I was hiding them somewhere in the forest from time to time.If anyone noticed, they didn’t say anything As I was the queen and could do whatever I wanted.Helga the maid gave me a scolding look one morning as I slipped a small loaf of bread into my dress.“Are you sneaking food, Luna?” she said with an unhappy face.I laughed a little too hard. "Since I’m pregnant, I’m getting more hungry these days.”She scoffed. “You are the

Lyra’s povThat night, I couldn’t sleep. No matter how many times I tried to do so, I couldn’t. I kept on seeing my mother's face. I was haunted by it.The warm smile. Those golden eyes were so like my own when I looked in the mirror. And then, I saw blood.I saw her falling.I saw the Lycans killing her.I woke up gasping, my stomach aching so badly I thought I might be sick.My unborn children.I had to keep them safe. But how could I possibly do that when I was living among the very people who had murdered my mother?I still needed answers. And I needed them now.The next morning, I started asking questions. Harmless questions. The first person inside to go to was Greg’s uncle, he was old enough to know the history of the wars the pack must have gone through.“Uncle Sanchez,” I said, addressing him in as casual a voice as I could manage. He turned to me, giving me a small smile. “Lyra,” he started, his eyes inquisitive. “What brings you to the field?”I smiled and looked around th

Lyra’s povSanchez gave me a long, hard look. “And what about the rest of the pack? Are you going to hide this from them?”“Anyone knows about this and I’m done. I’m dead. So are the twins.”“This is harder than I thought,“ he sighed. “You’re walking on dangerous ground, Lyra.”I knew it already.I had known it right from the beginning, but it wasn’t like I had any other choice.“Please… don’t say anything. Please.”“I’ll always try to look out for you and Greg. You’re family now. But you shouldn’t be scared of me. “The Lycan pack,” I whispered.Sanchez nodded. “If they even suspect something, they’ll act before Greg can stop them.”I wasn’t going to let that happen he came closer to me and I flinched. He then did the most surprising thing I hadn’t expected from him.He placed a hand on my shoulder.“Congratulations,” he said quietly.I cleaned the tears that were rushing down my eyes. “Thank you.”Sanchez nodded, then started to walk away. But before he left through the door, he tur

  • The Lycan King's Mate   chapter 76

Lyra’s povI hadn’t slept with Greg; that much was obvious. But I had slept with one person. Just one person ever in my life before and that had been two months ago—a stranger in the forest who wanted nothing but a night by me.Not wanting to remember that day didn’t make it any better—and it sure as hell made me never want to revisit the horrible experience by speaking about it out loud. That experience had made Derrick hate me and now Greg was here. So, I said nothing, giving him a weak smile as I looked up at him. He studied me for a second, then turned and strode away, his jaw locked tight. At that moment, his phone rang as he looked at it. “I… I’ve got to take this,” he muttered under his breath. He exited the room, and it was just Helga again and the healer with me. Releasing my breath in a rush that mirrored how my thoughts were rushing around inside of my head right now, I knew that Greg was angry. And he had every right to be.“Lyra, are you okay? You look pale.” Helga touche

  • The Lycan King's Mate   chapter 75

Lyra’s povI walked through the pack territory with Helga by my side, the sun shining down on me and the sounds of nature filling my ears. The pack members were all going about their business, a few stopped to give me a wave of recognition or even stop to congratulate me-it had been nearly a full day since Greg announced our bonding ceremony- but as always there were those who loved nothing more than to throw insults at me.“Wolffless-wolf.” A snide voice sneered as I passed by them. “What’s she doing here? This isn’t her place.”I held back my anger from doing anything stupid. It was no use. They were within their rights to insult me. It was because of me the wedding had happened anyway.I smiled and took it in.Helga noticed and she tried to be a voice of reason to me as I nodded and took it in.“Lyra don’t listen to them,” She spoke calmly but firmly. “Even I am a wolf that can transform and I still get insulted for it. Ignore them. People like to cause trouble.”She wasn’t wrong.

Lyra’s povGreg stood by the massive windows, arms crossed, his expression impossible to read as I entered the room.Much to my dismay, I still remembered the way his voice could send shivers down my spine. But I was stronger now. Hesitant or not, shy or not, intimidated by him always or not - either way, it was over. And that had to be enough of a comfort at least.I needed to tell him what I thought of his ridiculous plan. It needed to be done.I wasn’t going to stand for it and watch him push away his entire kingdom which he should be taking care of. As much as I would enjoy him doing that, I didn’t like the idea of him pushing aside people who cared for him and wanting his approval on everything.Maybe as his future queen, I could try to convince him of what to do and make sure he listened to me.When he laid eyes on me, they seemed to soften as he whispered almost too softly "You look beautiful." I did not let myself get distracted."Greg, we need to talk."His jaw clenched sli

Lyra’s povI was about to reply when another voice broke through the tension in the atmosphere.“Sanchez.” I turned to see Greg’s uncle step forward and it was like a fog had lifted. The man was huge, seriously tall and seriously broad with a presence of dominance that made even the most arrogant Alpha take a step back.“Insulting the Luna? Do you know how dangerous that is?” Sanchez’s eyes had grown even darker.Julius sneered but did not step backwards. “Just talking.”“Talking, is it? Because from where I stand, it sounds more like disrespect.”Victor scoffed. “You can’t expect us to bow to a weakling. She’s not fit to rule.”Sanchez let out a low humorless chuckle. “I take it then you’re prepared to have your ties to the Lycan King broken?” Julius stiffened. “What?”Sanchez’s smirk turned deadly. “If you don’t claim Lyra as your Luna, then you don’t claim Greg as your King. And if you don’t claim your King, then you sure as hell do not deserve his protection or his fucking favour

Greg’s pov"Lyra is not just a regular wolf," I told them, not missing a second. "She's my mate. My choice. And you have no right to talk about her like that."“Greg,” one of them frowned. “You are not seeing the bigger picture, you have to understand—”“What I understand,” I cut him off, “is that you are questioning my decision as King.”The tension in the room changed. I could feel myself getting angrier.Victor coughed. “No one is suggesting that we don’t value you, Greg. But—”“There is no ‘but’,” I interrupted. “Lyra’s mine and she’s special. I don’t care whether you accept her or not, but you will treat her with respect.”They looked at one another uneasily. Before I could respond, I spotted my uncle, Sanchez, by the ballroom entrance. He motioned me to come over. Something seemed wrong in his face.I threw the Alphas a final warning glance and left them there.***“This isn’t working,” Sanchez said the minute I got to him and we hit a more deserted hallway. I sighed. “I know.”
