Kayla's POV

“You have to leave” The guards didn't take no for an answer this time, prying my hands away from the bars Azel was behind and pushing me away from her cells. I didn't fight them, it was no use. Quietly, I made my way through the tunnels, making it back to the grand staircase.

I took the steps slowly this time, the wheels of my head spinning working overtime. I wasn't going to break my promise to Azel which meant I would have to get evidence Lily was behind the theft and possibly the poisoning.

“Kayla” A baritone voice cut through my haze. I glanced up my eyes locking in with the King's.

Only, It wasn’t him.

I eyed him carefully this time, I was paying attention. I noticed his scent was different from the King's, a strong musky scent. Not that I needed that to prove it was Kain; his smirk was all the confirmation I needed.

I didn’t think I had ever seen the King smile so genuinely, unlike his brother who smirked and laughed all the time and strangely I preferred Klaus' frow
