Kayla's POV

“UGH” I groaned as I woke up with a pounding headache, the kind that made it hard to open my eyes.

The light was too bright, my head too heavy, and everything around me felt off. Blinking a few times, I tried to clear the fog from my mind. The sterile smell hit me first, and then the unfamiliar white walls and beeping machines around me made it clear I was in a hospital.

Panic gripped me as I pushed myself up, but the world spun, forcing me to lay back down. My heart raced.

What had happened? How did I end up here?

“Welcome” a voice called out, I looked in the direction of Lily, sitting by the window, her arms crossed and a cruel smile playing on her lips. Her presence sent a chill down my spine. Something about the way she looked at me like she was savoring some twisted victory made my skin crawl.

“Relax, Kayla,” Lily said, her voice dripping with fake sweetness that barely masked the malice underneath. “You don’t want to make yourself worse.”
