Amelia opened her eyes in an instant. The ceiling was white and the ceiling fan that always welcomed her back to reality was not present.

The beeping sound that she had barely noticed before came to her realization. A beep at an interval of a second and then another sound. Sort of like a steaming generator.

Amelia turned her head in its direction and was welcomed by a monitor. She turned her head to the other side and saw some faces she had never seen before. A man and a woman. Both looked at her as though they were disgusted by her mere presence.

“Where am I?” she asked as she tried to sit up straight. It was not the mansion—that one was obvious.
