Chapter 5: The Transition

last update Last Updated: 2023-01-06 17:25:00

Living with Kael had become a nightmare for Hazel. The man was the real definition of a monster.

When he dragged her to his kingdom a couple of weeks ago, she thought he was being cruel when he slapped her and asked her to stay quiet but now, she knew that cruel didn't even come close to who he was.

The sun was just coming up that fateful morning and Hazel's bleeding heart soiled even further as the rays of the sun filtered through her room.

The space was beautiful. The large white bed and soft blue color on the wall was a theme that was represented even on the vanity chair and lounge area. But none of these things made her happy.

Only Asher could make her happy.

Maeve had done something to him and she had to find a way to convince him or snap him out of whatever it was Maeve did to him.

Her eyes diverted from the window to the rattling door. Someone was coming.

She involuntarily recoiled unto the bed as she knew only one person came in with such noise —Kael.

The door got kicked open with a loud bang as it hit the wall behind it.

"Hazel-cat!" he slurped as his large frame stepped into the room.

Hazel flinched at the disgusting name he had given her but she said nothing. She only observed him cautiously from her end on the bed.

"I have given you enough time to heal. I want my reward now!" He growled as he started coming at her.

Hazel's brows rose in confusion and her heart picked up the pace.

"Wha-at do you mean?" She asked.

Kael moved his hands to his groin and pointed a finger at her. "I need to fuck you!"

Hazel never planned on letting Kael have his way with her, she would rather die than allow the disgusting man to take her virginity from her.

Karl had an evil smile as he took off his clothes and moved to the bed.

"There is no denying me my price Hazel-cat..." He trailed as he moved his finger to her leg.

Hazel let out a shriek so loud, Kael froze as his eyes flashed red.

"I'd rather die than let you do this Kael!" She said after shaking the room with her voice.

She knew that Kael would not take her by force. It was a standard rule in all the lands. She was an alpha's daughter, it was the least he could do.

"You think you are smart?" Kael growled. "You think that scream will save you?" He asked and Hazel swallowed.

"I know that you can't do anything to me without my consent!" Hazel fired back.

Kael got filled with rage and pulled her by the leg. She tried to struggle but it was useless, Kael was ten times larger and stronger than she was.

She landed roughly on the floor. Kael didn't stop there. He straddled her and landed a hot slap on her cheek.

"You will come begging me to fuck your brains out by the time I am done with you fool!" He hissed, pulling her by the hair as he got up.

"Argh!" Hazel cried out in pain but Kael continued hurting her.

When he was satisfied, he spat on her bruised body and walked out of the room fuming with anger.

This was her daily dose of treatment. She knew it would only be a matter of time before the pain became unbearable. She had to leave.

Her teary eyes fell on the door Kael had left open in anger.

Hazel quickly went to it and pushed it slightly closed so that no one else would notice that it was open.

A plan started hatching in her head. She had memorized the exit the day she was brought there and now she was going to need her memories to aid her escape.

She waited patiently for nighttime to come before she slipped out of the room.

Kael was so certain of himself that he barely had any security. He thought no one would dare attack him, forgetting that he had slaves and prisoners that might escape.

Hazel was luckily unseen as she made her way out of Kael's palace. As soon as she got to the forest, she ran with all her conserved might to her pack.

As someone who had been sold, returning would be considered trespassing. She might be killed on sight if she wasn't careful but her mind was determined.

She had to get back to Asher. He was her mate... And life.

"Who is that?" A familiar voice bellowed.

I stopped running and turned to find Asher. My heart melted.

"Asher, it is me, Hazel!" She called with relief. The goddess was finally showing her mercy.

"You are trespassing on my land!"

"Asher, listen to me, Maeve did something to you..." She didn't even complete her statement when Asher's eyes turned purple and she let out a gasp.

This was a sign from the witches. Whenever they enchanted someone the person's eye color changed.

He moved closer to her and she thought maybe he wanted to listen. Maybe the enchantment was fading...

"Asher, I—" Suddenly she felt a cold slip through her body and she froze and looked down at it.

"Asher—" she managed to say as fear and panic rolled all over her at the sight before her.

There was a dagger buried in her heart.

She looked up at him in confusion. She wanted to speak but blood had filled her throat and the more she opened her mouth to try and speak, the more blood gushed out of it.

"This will teach others like you to stay out of our land!" He spat and walked away from the dying Hazel.

Hazel was dying but her head was still in denial. How could her mate be the one to kill her?

Was the enchantment so great, he couldn't fight it?

Or was their bond so weak it broke easily?

Tears streamed down her face. She wanted to scream but nothing left her lips. Her vision was getting blurry but she refused to give in.

She was staring at Asher's retreating figure, wondering if this was truly how her life would end.

Everything finally turned dark but her pain refused to go away.

Didn't people say when you died you found peace? Where was her peace?

"Hazel!" A voice stronger than any she had heard before called her name and she snapped awake.

"Argh!" She screamed in fear as she realized she was floating in a dark void. There was a flash of light above her but it could only illuminate where she stood and not around her.

"Hazel!" The voice called again.

She turned and saw a face that was too clean to be true. It was a man with a broad chest and an innocent face with skin that couldn't have possibly seen the sun before.

She could have thought he was an angel but his burning red eyes made her rethink that.

"I am Raglan, a demon prince and I have an offer for you..."

"No!" Hazel's screams resonated through the walls of the midwives' workshop. Against their will, the midwives had lain Hazel on the worktable and had tied her limbs down to the table. One of the midwives took a cloth and started to stuff it into Hazel's mouth to muffle her screams. "Leave her mouth free. I want to listen to her screams," Raglan's cold voice echoed in the room, stopping the midwife. "Please Raglan! You can take my life but let this child live! He is innocent! Please!" Hazel pleaded with Raglan. "I should let the bastard child live?" Raglan chuckled. "I am putting an end to the lives of all the bastards in that family. Including the whore that dared bear him a child," Raglan said with such contempt his face contorted with disgust. Tears spilled down Hazel's face. She couldn't breathe. She knew this was likely going to be her end, but she had hoped she could escape. But she refused to give up on her son. Hazel continued to beg, offering her life in exchange for

Hazel spent the next twenty minutes thinking and rethinking her plan. 'What if it fails?' she asked herself. She knew that was a useless question to ask herself. She knew exactly what would happen if her plan failed. But there was no way she was going to back down. She placed her hands on her belly, rubbing it. She had to take the risk for the child's sake and his father's. With that in mind, Hazel got up and marched to the bed where Raglan lay lost to the world. He looked much more beautiful in sleep and he looked much less like the evil bastard that he was. Hazel looked at the left side of his chest. She knew he had no heart but she wished he had one so that she would have the satisfaction of impaling his heart just as how he had made her do so to all those Alpha's just for his selfish reason. Raglan was lucky she did not know how to send him to hell, she would have done it there and then. Rather, she got on the bed and started to try and take off his black tunic. It was no
