“YOU SHOULD have just sent us a gift. I heard you came straight from the airport. I’m sure you’re tired. You didn’t have to bother coming all the way here since the gift would have been more welcomed and more appreciated than your presence,” I told Giovanni, the Vice President’s son as soon as I saw him at the gate.
Giovanni’s fully-armored guards stood behind him. There were seven of them, mine were five. And they all seemed ready to kill including my cousin who rushed forward and grabbed me by the collar.
“Why did you do this? You knew my feelings for Alexandra! I was only gone for a while!” he yelled. “I was supposed to be her groom! You were aware of my plans and yet, you betrayed me, you bastard!”
“I may have known your plans, but I didn’t say I would simply go along with them and do nothing. This is why you lost your chance. You let your guard down,” I replied in a neutral voice as I brushed off his hands and straightened my suit which had only intensified Giovanni’s anger. “Tone down your voice, Gio, and keep your temper under control. Your men and their weapons are already grabbing too much attention. I would normally not let anyone use that tone on me and do these things to me but I’d let it slide for two reasons. One, it’s my wedding day and two, I know you’re brokenhearted. But do this again and I won’t sympathize with you and forgive you the second time. My enemy list is already full at the moment but if you would really insist, I wouldn’t mind adding one more name on it.”
Giovanni gritted his teeth. He was fuming as he tried to throw a punch. But since he was not used to getting his hands dirty, I was able to catch his fist easily. He was not born for this. And he had to accept that.
Grief was now evident in his voice when he spoke.
“You were the reason why Dad sent me away, weren’t you? You were behind it because this is your goal all along. Why did you allow this to happen, Luther? I know we weren’t close. Still, I never thought you would hurt me like this.”
I looked away. I never thought that I’d do this, too. But the ones around me had pushed a button they shouldn’t have.
All of a sudden, Giovanni’s eyes were drenched with love: an emotion which our parents had always considered useless.
“This had to be done, Giovanni. I was the best person to play this role. And your father knew that. That was the reason why he supported my plans. You are a nice person and the likes of you have no place in this game. If we had let you participate, you would have been killed without even realizing it since you are too deep in love with the woman who will never hesitate to ravage you.” I cleared my throat. “Now, if this is all you came here for, then you’d have to excuse me. I still have a reception and a wife to go back to.”
“Wife, huh?”
Giovanni laughed although it sounded so desolate even in my ears. When I said he was a good man, I meant it. I meant every damn word. And when I saw how pain crossed his eyes, I stayed still. I would not be the man I am today if I allowed such things to affect me.
“Alexandra is one of the good wolves out there. You also knew that because I was not the only one who had seen her years ago. So, at least tell me this one thing before you leave,” Giovanni begged. “You owe me that, Luther. What kind of role are you playing here? Everyone’s been thinking that you are Alexandra’s prey here but we both know how far that thing is from the truth. That’s why as early as now, tell me. Are you on Alexandra’s side or will you kill her just like what the elders wanted us to do? Give me an assurance that you will not hurt her and that you will save her from our family instead. And then I promise I will stop making a ruckus. You will never hear from me again.”
“And what will you do if I were to say the opposite?”
Giovanni looked at me with such determination that I’d never seen from him before. “I will steal her from you.”
I smirked before releasing his fist. “Then go ahead, do it. I would love to see you lose.”
He looked at me as if I suddenly grew tail and horns. “I can’t believe this. And to think I trusted you!”
I nodded. “Yeah, you did. And maybe that was your biggest mistake.” I took a step closer to Giovanni and patted his shoulder before saying, “I know you’re expecting a grand explanation from me. But such thing won’t happen. I don’t owe you anything, Giovanni. But fine, for your own peace of mind, let me tell you this at least. When this is over, many will devour and be devoured. And as for who those people are, I will leave that up to your imagination.”
Giovanni was still screaming his heart out when I walked away. His guards tried catching me, but they stopped when the rest of my men appeared and blocked them. Giovanni may be the son of one of the most influential men in the country, but this is still my town.
Here in San Antonio, my name and orders bear more weight compared to anyone else’s.
I was about to go back to the reception area when I saw Pa at the hallway. It was as if he had been waiting for me there. He threw his cigarette away before he approached me. He looked incredibly pissed.
“What the fuck was the explosion about, Luther?” his voice thundered in the hallway. It was a good thing that only the guards were around to witness his outburst or else, his reputation would plummet.
“Giovanni is still outside the gate, Pa. You can ask him for complete details. I’m sure he has a lot to say about it.”
His forehead creased. “What are you talking about?”
“He was the one behind the explosion.”
I could feel Isaac’s gaze on me as Pa gasped. Nevertheless, Isaac didn’t say a word. Instead, he quietly stood behind me.
“But I was informed that Tristan was the last person who was seen visiting the headquarters-“
“And so, I heard.” I sighed. “My righthand man would have died had he stayed there longer when I asked him to grab some files for me. Some of our men were also severely injured and all the data we had collected painstakingly these past few years were now gone. I’m just as devastated and as furious as you are, Pa, especially when I found out that Giovanni was behind all that because of his anger and jealousy. We both know how much he adores Alexandra and how much he secretly favors the wolves. I know you can’t believe it, too, and I feel the same, Pa. But don’t fret. Tomorrow morning, I will send Isaac to give you the evidence that we’ve gathered.”
Pa looked flustered. “I-is that true?”
I shook my head. “How could you ever doubt me, Pa? I’ve worked with you for as long as I can remember. I followed no one else but you. I would never go against your wishes. Besides, I would not dream of harming my own men! That’s against my principles! You didn’t raise me that way.”
Pa looked touched. “No, son. Don’t get me wrong. I would never doubt you! Among the countless people around me, you are the only one I have faith in. I would never suspect you although I must admit, I did suspect your assistant. I thought he was working for your Uncle Mason. I know you will never stab me in the back. You are not like your Uncle. I was just shocked by the news, that’s all.” After a while, his eyes narrowed. “Giovanni and Mason must be up to something again. I will make them pay for this! We will strike back!”
When Pa left, only then did Isaac speak.
“I’ve been with you so long and yet, I could still never guess what’s going on in your mind, Sir.”
Isaac and Tristan were twins. They were the only ones I trusted the most in this game because they were not only my subordinates. They were my comrades, my friends. And we all shared the same goal.
I shrugged. “Didn’t you see Giovanni’s expression earlier? For the first time in his life, he looked determined to do something and that was to protect the woman he loves. He needs to be strong in order to accomplish that. And for him to succeed, he has to surpass this hurdle. His father can’t keep sheltering him forever. This is a harsh world. And I’m too busy to entertain his fragile heart.”
“Then I guess this means more work for us. Hell, I don’t even remember my address anymore since it’s been ages ago since I last came home. With all due respect, I demand a salary increase,” Isaac replied. “I accepted this job merely for the salary because you said all I would have to do was guard you. And I swear I’d never been more wrong in my life. You promised this will be easy, but I can’t think of a day that I wasn’t stressed and overworked because of you. And now, you also want me to be a magician just so I could turn the lie into the truth for you? This just proves once again that Tristan and I had been scammed!”
I snickered. Only the twins could be this brutally honest with me. They were a chatterbox, they complain most of the time, but they still get the job done which made them a prized asset in my team.
“The people in the headquarters are all agents so acting like they are on the brink of death because of an explosion would be easy, but the rest of the evidence? How do you expect me to pull that off?”
“I don’t know. That’s a part of your job now. After you weave some magic, you and your brother can come to my office. And on top of my table, you’ll see the keys.”
“For what?”
“For the car you and Tristan had been eyeing for quite some time now.”
His face lit up in a jiffy. “Sir, have I told you how much I love working for you?”
“There’s no need to go that far, buddy. I know you don’t mean it. Just make sure to send the evidence tomorrow.”
He whistled. “No problem, Sir. I suddenly feel so inspired that I could even send it tonight. I will show you one of my best magic tricks.”
I grinned. “Great. I look forward to it.”
“Kidding aside, are you sure about this, Sir? Once we go back to the hall, there will be no way out,” Isaac said as his face suddenly became serious.
“I wouldn’t start this thing if I knew that I wouldn’t be able to finish this, Isaac. At the end of the day, you, me, Alexandra, and everyone around us, aren’t we the same? We are all here today, hoping to make a difference. We only have this one chance to do that, buddy. That’s why we have to seize it no matter what,” I said as I went back to the reception hall.
There, I saw Alexandra, stirring up men’s primitive desires once more as she gave her most incredible smile to the guests even if most of them were giving her death glares. Her pack was gone. She was the only wolf now in this venue. Yet, she didn’t look nervous, not even a little. In fact, behind that smile, I could tell that she was just royally annoyed, nothing more, nothing less.
Her pack had earned my admiration for leaving their future Luna in the hands of the people who either wanted to lock her up or draw a dagger across her neck. But they must have had too much faith in Alexandra for this to happen. In their eyes, she must have been that capable.
When my wife saw me, she extended her hand as if she wanted me to come to her and reach out… which I did.
This was a show, after all, where both of us were either the heroes or the villains. It was our responsibility to either entertain the crowd or annoy the hell out of them. And when we finally held hands for everyone to see, I’d like to believe that we succeeded in making them feel something no matter what that was.
“That was quick, darling. I thought you would be gone for a while,” she said in a husky voice.
“And what? Let you have all the fun here while I’m away? So, how are things going?”
She yawned. “The usual. I could still hear every single person in this hall badmouthing me, wishing I would die tonight that’s why after this, I’m planning to send them all on a trip.”
“A trip? Well, that will be nice,” I said as I drank the wine which I took from the waiter. “And where exactly do you want to send them?”
She looked at me, carefully watching my reaction as if she was waiting for my mask to fall off before saying, “To the afterlife.”
When I choked, Alexandra immediately took away my wineglass, put it on the table, and patted my back a few times which just made me cough more. I felt like my organs and intestines got jumbled up because of that supposed to be simple pat of hers. I wasn’t even sure if my spinal cord was still intact. Without the amulet I was wearing, I would have been in the emergency room by now.
What can I expect, though? Tenderness was not in Alexandra’s vocabulary. It seems that whenever we’d talk, somehow, the conversation would eventually lead to death.
“So, what do you say, darling?”
“What… a wonderful travel destination. I’m impressed!”
I looked at her, amused all over again. Not many people knew this, but I eat death threats for breakfast. I was just a little surprised by the way she delivered that brutal line so casually with that gorgeous face.
She raised her brow. “You think so? I’m glad. Since you seem to be interested, do you want to join them in the trip, too? I can make it happen tonight, darling.”
I leaned on my chair and tried to match Alexandra’s saccharine smile. And here I thought we had somehow reached an understanding a while ago and even sealed it with a kiss. I should have known that it was impossible to understand a woman like her right away. I agree with Pa, though. Alexandra was a walking time bomb and they put me in this position expecting me to defuse the bomb.
But why the heck would I do that?
I grinned. I am actually waiting for her to explode. The bigger the explosion, the better.
Thank you so much for reading! Please don't forget to follow me and to vote for my story. :)
(Alexandra) “I SEE an incredibly gorgeous man and you see an enemy. We are seeing things differently, dear.” I frowned as I glanced at Beatrix, my cousin, my best friend, and my assistant all rolled into one. She was on the left side of the hall, a few tables away from me. She raised her wineglass when our eyes met. Beatrix showed up as Kenji’s partner for tonight and no one doubted her because she was a famous model in the country. She also had an established background and was also known for supporting charities. There was only three people Luther had kept close all these years. Tristan, Isaac, and Kenji. And since the twin brothers were constantly in San Antonio, Beatrix targeted Kenji who worked in Manila, and seduced him so she would have a reason to return here one day since San Antonio was also Kenji’s hometown. Now, Beatrix got the playboy billionaire wrapped around her fingers. I snorted. “Have you forgotten what the humans did to us, to our family? It’s impossible for me
I BIT my lower lip so I wouldn’t burst out laughing after getting in the bridal car since the men who escorted me out of the hall after I pretended to faint were just nearby. I haven’t had this much fun in years.Luther couldn’t join me in the car since Mrs. Molly begged him to stay with her. She was afraid to be alone in the police car after her husband walked away on her. As for the aconite issue, the verdict will be out tomorrow afternoon once the Governor and the Alpha had sort things out in the morning. For now, Mrs. Molly will not get to have her beauty rest in the hotel or in her mansion. She would be spending the night in the cold prison cell since both Luther and his father cannot contact the Alpha. Before that, I know that Trix had already informed my father not to accept any of their calls at the moment. It was the Beta who told the Sinclairs that the Alpha and the Luna were away and would be back to meet them tomorrow.Mrs. Molly cannot avoid imprisonment after I exposed w
WHEN Luther’s hands spread my legs, I immediately opened my eyes. I sat straight and was about to slap him when he caught my hand. He chuckled as if he was already expecting my reaction. Was he just teasing me? I’m stronger than him. I could easily take my hand back and slap him with my other hand or even punched him in the gut. But I stopped the second I saw just how mesmerizing he looked as he laughed that I had to turn away. My chest felt like it was going to explode but not out of anger this time. What was this strange feeling hanging within me? “What are you doing here? What about Mrs. Molly?” I asked when I returned to my senses. I coughed. “I think with a little rest, I will start to feel better. Tell her that what she did broke my heart, but I’ve forgiven her that’s why I hope that she learns to forgive herself, too. This is my second chance at life and right now, I’m just grateful that I’ve recovered from the poison.” Luther looked at me with a knowing smile on his face. “
“WHERE are we heading? This is not the direction towards Luther’s mansion,” I told Mark after he passed by the route which would have lead us to the mansion which the Governor had given to me and his son as a wedding gift. Before the wedding, the Governor toured me and the Alpha to the ‘love nest’ he bragged about that’s why I knew the way. I only had to see things once to remember them. And we are now so far away towards that extravagant nest which he filled with his people disguised as servants. “The Boss instructed me to send you to his real house, ma’am, and not to the mansion which the Governor had bought for the two of you,” Mark explained politely. “We will be there in about twenty minutes. For the meantime, please feel free to take a nap if you want to. I will wake you once we have reached the house.” “No, thanks.” Not long after, my phone vibrated. The voice message came from Luther. Like me, he probably got my contact number through his assistant. “You are not lost, darl
(Luther)“I’VE HEARD about your wedding. Congratulations, Mr. Sinclair. You got yourself a very gorgeous wife. Alexandra, wasn’t it? Without her werewolf gene, she would have been perfect. It’s such a shame.”I glanced at the police chief whose words had stopped me from getting inside the police station. He was among my father’s puppets. But tonight, it doesn’t really matter.I only went out for a while to talk to my assistant when I saw this guy at the entrance. He was smirking as he leaned against the table with a cigarette in his mouth. I know him. He was famous for being an asshole. I even heard that he made quite a ruckus when he learned that he was not invited to my wedding.Talking to my parents had already sucked the energy out of me. And now I have to deal with this scumbag, too? I almost feel tempted to believe that I was being punished.“This is why people like you suck, you know. You don’t realize that my wife is perfect just the way she is. Her being a wolf is actually on
“WELCOME back, son.”I swallowed after hearing Suzanna’s affectionate greeting. No matter how many times I tell her to not wait for me each time I’d drop by, she never listens. It was past eleven in the midnight. The parade had caused a stir. I had to attend the organization’s emergency meeting before I got to drive home.“I’m glad you will finally get to live here. I know it had been a tough day, but knowing you, I’m sure you did well. Congratulations on your wedding, Luther,” she said with a smile.I’ve heard the same thing over and over again today. But Suzanna was the only one sincere about it.If she was my real parent, maybe I wouldn’t be the man I am today. I wouldn’t have to spend my whole life treating my parents’ house like a warzone. I can’t complain, though. Being a Sinclair had its benefits, too. This marriage, for example. When the cold wind blew, I fixed Suzanna’s shawl. “Thanks for waiting for me. It’s cold. Get inside.”“I heard the news from Mark. I know you’ve been
IT WAS still dark when I came out of the house and ran. The sun was now up when I calmed down after running for hours. I just had to leave. Otherwise, I was afraid that I might mess up the plan by suddenly killing Luther and everyone else in this house. It had been a long time since I stopped having that nightmare about Serena. Being surrounded by the humans must have brought it back. Knowing that Anthony Gutierrez was back in the country could be among the factors, too. Anthony had spent the past three years traveling to different parts of the world. By this time, he must have spent all the money he got from selling my sister to the auction house. It was not easy finding out his identity because Serena only wrote his nickname in her diary. There were no photos of them either that would help the pack trace him sooner. We had only succeeded in getting an information about him a year ago when the wolves had gained enough power and connection. The Senator who was the secret owner of th
THE minute we arrived in our room; Luther carefully laid me down on the bed. But I pretended to lose grip of the towel that’s why the fabric slid down my stomach which exposed my breasts.I watched his hungry eyes blazed as he stared at my body which made me feel ticklish. It was like he was fucking me with those eyes. Meat was every wolf’s kryptonite and from the second I saw him; I’ve always wondered what his was. How much was his tolerance when it came to temptation? So far, I’ve never met a man who had successfully resisted the allure of a female wolf before.Just like Beatrix, the wolves were scattered even in the cities now. Most, if not all, of the establishments all over the country had aconites in their halls and garden. They were designed so splendidly that no one would think they were used as protection. But weeks after Serena’s death, we had found a way to lessen the impact of the aconites on the wolves. The Alphas and Lunas even showed immunity to it. And two years later,
LUTHER’S fingers grazed my cheek as he stared at my face. He swallowed when he glanced at my lips. Seconds later and he pulled my head and waist as he claimed my mouth. He nibbled on my lower lip, urging me to open my mouth and when I did, he hungrily pushed his tongue in until our tongues met. When he finally let my mouth go, he took a rough breath and rubbed his erection against my stomach. “You look so lovely again today that I just wanna devour you right here, right now, Mrs. Sinclair.”Although completely aroused, I held it in and just smiled. “You can’t. Dad texted me an hour ago and said he’s preparing a victory party for me. We need to go back to San Antonio. How did you even escape from Iris?”“No worries. I told them that I was promised a date and I would claim that promise today. They seemed to understand. Dad told us to take our time, he’ll look after our princess. She even happily let me leave by myself. She had one thing to say, though. She said it’s her Christmas wish.”
(Valerian)“THE ROYAL family from the wolf empire is here to give their greetings and gifts to Your Majesty,” Matteo, the host of the event, announced. The guards opened the castle doors and from there, Alexandra, Luther, and their daughter appeared and walked towards the center of the hall, towards me.After Alexandra’s wolf reappeared, her hair was back to being crimson and so was her daughter’s. Luther’s hair, however, was still ink-black. It was the only thing he retained from his human genes. But whenever these three were on the edge of their emotions just like what happened in San Antonio before, their hair would all turn crimson along with their eyes.Together, these three could move mountains.Iris was at their middle. I stared at the Luna Queen, she was as stunning as before, but whenever I see her lately, her beauty just transcends everyone around her in another level. I guessed it was the radiance in her eyes. She was happy and it showed. She was shining more than ever.See
‘THE CRAZIEST thing in the world happened, but I cannot tell you about it yet, little sis. Telling you will spoil whatever scheme your moon goddess is cooking up. So, don’t get too disappointed if I will shut up for now. But be assured that Val is okay. He was just shocked and confused. Let him be. This is his first time being in this state. It’s actually fun to watch him rattled,’ Nick assured me. He winked. ‘He will figure it out and he will get over it, trust your big bro.’ ‘When?’ I asked. Nick laughed. ‘In fifteen to twenty years, I guess?’ Nick seemed to be having the best time of his life teasing Valerian. Even now, he was grinning beside Val who just ignored him. He turned to my direction and tenderly smiled. “I’m proud of you,” he mouthed. “I know you will be great.” “Thank you so much,” I replied. Halfway through the red carpet, I glanced at Giovanni who quietly walked with me. Just like my husband, he had come a long way, too. All of us had matured. He had become one
(Alexandra)MY POSITION was the closest to Beatrix. I could have stopped her from killing herself. But when she shook her head and looked at me with weariness in her eyes as if she was begging me not to take another step, I couldn’t move my feet. This was her wish: to be one with the man she loved. As heartbreaking as it was, I had to respect it.“Beatrix!” her parents yelled and sobbed. She confessed it to me while I was still pregnant. Kenji was the second mate given to her by the moon goddess. It was something she didn’t have the courage to tell even to her own parents knowing that they would not be happy about it anyway. It was rare for wolves to be given another mate after the original one dies. In fact, it was so rare that there were no records of it anywhere.Trix could be the first to experience such phenomenon and there could be a reason behind it, reason which Kenji and Trix had an eternity to discover. My knees staggered, but Luther was quick to grab me by the waist. Both o
(Beatrix)I HAD a secret that I could never admit to anyone. A month after the tragedy that killed my best friend, I was able to recover. At that time, I was about to go back to my duty in the pack but on my supposed to be last night at the facility, Kenji paid me a visit. His voice was gentle as he talked to me. He spoke like an old friend of mine. His eyes were affectionate as he called my name. He didn’t talk anything about vampires and wolves. Kenji only talked about the time we dated. And I pretended to be crazy so I could keep seeing him, so I could keep being with him in my own way.And maybe I had really gone crazy. Who would have imagined that I could stay in that facility for seven years all for him? For a chance to hear his voice? But for me, that facility had become our secret place, our hideout.‘I’m the world’s richest man. I have everything that money could buy, Trix, but I would swap them all for a day to be with you again, to feel your kisses one more time, your hugs,
THE WIND grew more violent as each second passed. The birds that were resting on the branches of the trees all squealed and flew away. We were yet to see the hybrids, but we knew they were here. We could feel it as tension sizzled in the air. We could even smell it. Their blood scent was everywhere which meant that we were now surrounded by them. And when Kenji had finally made his appearance, the steel gates flew towards our direction. But we were quick to evade them. There were hundreds of hybrids and they were all wearing red cloaks. I saw the faces of the men who made my mother suffer. And when they sneered at me as if they were remembering the same thing, my blood boiled and my body shook with anger.“The reports are true after all. My best friend and my mentor are indeed in one place and are working together. What a reunion,” Kenji said as he smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. In fact, he had a dead look in his eyes as if he was uncertain about tonight’s outcome as well. When
I STOOD up and ran my fingers through my scalp. “When you told me to escape with you back then, I wanted to do just that. It was not just you. I wanted so badly to forget, too, Trix! I would do anything to forget even for a day. I want to escape, too! I want to be with you, too! But I can’t forget their cries. It haunts me all the fucking time.”I kneeled before Trix and when I could no longer stop myself, I held her hands and buried my face in them, relishing the familiar warmth that I could not feel in any other place no matter how hard I searched.Only Beatrix could do this to me. If it was not her, it would not work. She was my sanctuary. The voices were still there, I could still hear them. It seemed like I had been cursed to hear them for as long as I lived. Or maybe my mind was just playing with me, maybe I had gone crazy. My mind was a wretched place to be. And so was my heart. But with Beatrix this close to me, the voices were not as loud as before. It gave me the chance to l
(Kenneth)“HAVE MERCY, your majesty! I am still your father-“The old lying son of a bitch didn’t get to finish his sentence when I swung my sword onto his neck. His head rolled onto the floor along with the rest of the Mages who swore their loyalty to me. It sucks how Valerian was right again. The clan who abandoned me before because I was not as strong as them only came to find me after they heard how I rose to the throne. If I didn’t discover what they were secretly planning to do behind my back, they would have overthrown me and would have tossed me on the streets, poor and powerless.Their plan backfired, though. I killed them before they could even do that to me. Using a spell, I stole all of their magic. They were only after my throne, my position, and my army. To hell with them all! I don’t need them! They could rot in hell and after all this, I will see them there. In hell will be where our next family reunion will take place. After I killed the man who claimed to be my biolo
(Alexandra)“GET up, Alexandra. Shift and run with me.”When I heard Dad’s voice, I wiped my tears away and rose. His eyes were full of compassion as if he could relate to what I was feeling. He gave me a soft smile.“Shall we go?”I nodded. When he shifted, I followed him and shifted as well. Together, we ran in the woods as quickly as we could and howled. It was the farewell ritual that I didn’t get to do for Mom before and Dad was allowing me to finally do it for her now.It was seven years late, but I hope Mom could still hear it… including my apology and gratitude. While we were running, I was taken aback by the huge number of wolves who ran behind us including Luther. They howled along with us until we reached the lake once again. When we all transformed, the women took me someplace else and I just let them. They prepared a white silk dress for me to wear. They assisted me as I wore it. When I
