Chapter One

Keira's Pov

I squinted my eyes are the brightness of the light, stirring me awake from my unconsciousness.

Then there was a dull throb behind my head as I blinked my eyes open. Where the hell was I?

I tried to remember the last occurrence I was in and realized, I was rushing towards a subway station, collectively recapping the pile of essays I would need for my presentation and then the next...I was in a hospital room with the smell of it assaulting my nostrils.

I gently sat up, or tried to when a firm hand pressed against my shoulder, restraining me.

"Take it easy." A rich baritone velvet like voice soothed.

My head snapped towards the origin of the voice before I found myself staring into a pair of piercing emerald eyes and incredibly handsome features.

His dark hair was tousled and it accentuates his chiseled features giving him an undeniably attractive appearance.

A faint shadow of stubble lined his sharp jawline, and I couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like against my skin.

Wow, where did he come from? I thought to myself as his presence sent waves of butterflies to my stomach.

"Wh..who are you?" I croaked as my throat felt as dry as the Sahara.

"Zane." He replied. "Zane Blackwood." His brows contorted into that if confusing and concern. "You don't remember me?"

I tried to shake my head but the sharp pain that course through my head made me wince. "I'm sorry, I really don't remember. Is there a problem? What happened to me?"

Zane reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear, his touch sending a jolt of electricity through my body. It was definitely unlike anything I'd felt before. Get a grip Keira.

"You were attacked Luna." He finally explained, staring at me deeply in the eyes, his gaze narrowing slightly and with familiarity, while I was still here trying to wrap my head around what is going on. "We found you barely unconscious in an alleyway. What were you even doing there. You don't really like to leave the pack."

"Luna?" I whispered, the name seeming foreign on my lips. That wasn't my name. I was perplexed as I studied the man before me, searching for perhaps a flicker of recognition.

His face was a complete mystery, no matter how much I tried to recognize him, he was just unfamiliar.

"I think there's been a mistake." I stated, the confusion laced in my tone. "My name's Keira. Keira Evans. I work as a teacher at Westbrook High School."

I watched as Zane's eyes widened before his features settled into a grim mask that sent shivers down my spine.

"You're Luna Blackwood, mate to the Alpha of the Blackwood Pack. You've been missing for weeks and we've searched everywhere for you?"

"What?" Mate? Alpha? Pack?

Those words held absolutely no meaning to me. I felt fear creep it's way into my chest. What is this delusional situation i had suddenly stumbled into?

And before I could even voice my opinion, the door swung open and two more men walked in. Their presence was imposing, something that commanded nothing but respect.

The first man was tall with broad shoulders and sun-kissed skin. His eye color was molten gold which held a smoldering intensity that... wouldn't like... stole my breath. He had his expression guarded, but I could see his features soften in relief as his gaze landed on me.

The second man was leaner than the first but no less intimidating. He had some sort of roguish charm that radiated off him like an intense heat. He had a lazy grin on his face and blond locks. He winked at me, something that made my stomach flutter in ways I didn't know it could. My cheeks flushed crimson.

Oh my gosh get a grip Keira. I was acting like a hormonal teenager around these guys.

"Thank the moon you're already Luna." The blonde guy stated, advancing towards me to stand at my bedside. He reached for my hand I instinctively flinched...he paused, a flicker of confusion and hurt flashing across his handsome face.

"Who are you people?" My voice came out more boldly than I expected. But I was already frustrated and needed answers. "I'm not Luna you all keep mentioning. My name is Keira...Keira Evans. And I'm clueless about what is going on here."

The three men exchanged weighted glances, a silent conversation passing between them. Finally, the golden-eyed Adonis spoke, his deep baritone rumbling with authority that sent a shiver down my spine.

"You're Luna Blackwood, the true mate of Alpha Zane and the Luna of our pack." His gaze bore into mine as though he was trying to make me remember something. "We're your mates, bound to you by an unbreakable bond. I'm Ryder, Ryder Stone and this is Caleb Rhodes."

He gestured to the blond man who gave me a reassuring smile that did very little to ease the panic growing in my throat.

"No way is that possible,” I argued, choking with each word I uttered at what seemed like high pitched tones ‘I have never seen any of you before in my life’. I’m just an ordinary person, a high school teacher who leads a rather mundane life in New York City. "

This weight of their stares upon me, as if they were capable of physically pinning me to the ground and the urge to shrink into nothingness, to simply cease to exist in this strange, twisted reality I had unwillingly found myself in. Were they crazy, or was this situation making me crazy?

Yes, finally, Zane took my hand with that gentle but firm grip of a man whose fingers are coarse from hard work. “I understand that this is hard and you are lost, but you must trust us,” he pleaded, with those piercing emerald green eyes fixed on me. This is where you are our Luna, our mate, and we will always do all we can to assist you in regaining your memory.

Remember? I was fascinated to know how I could remember something that had not even happened. In my stomach there arose an immediate, overpowering wave of panic, as if the emotion would soon smother me in its energy. All I craved so ardently was to wake up from the nightmare and realize that I am safe in my bed in my small apartment in the midst of Brooklyn.

Though, as they stood in front of me, three men with eyes that seemed to burn with the deepest, most savage instincts every human possesses, I knew this was no dream. It was something I could not fathom, existence that was alien to me, but here I was in the midst of that reality without anyone preparing me for it.

Ryder looked at me gently, and he touched my face with his large, coarse hand, and I felt goose pimples run all over my skin. “I won’t let things get this bad for you again Luna. I promise we’ll figure this out. ”
