Katherine pov

"Do you ever wake up early?" I frowned at the voice that spoke.

"Leave me alone, it's still too early," I shuffled around my bed. I knew who the person was.

Jade had been trying to wake me up for the past ten minutes but sleep was getting the best of me.

Then the bed sheet that was cuddling my body close was pulled down from me and I whimpered as the cold atmosphere met my skin.

"Jade, will you please leave me alone?" I pouted, still refusing to open my eyes. I feared that if I did open it even for the slightest time, I was going to lose the sleep and nice dream I was having.

I heard the curtains being dragged open but I didn't flinch until the brightness of the sun came in contact with my eyelids.

"Jade!" I finally opened my eyes to shoot him a glare but he just laughed at my attitude.

"You have exactly ten minutes to get yourself ready for breakfast since you’re part of the cooking crew today, else you'll be extremely late. I mean you're already late, but you'll be

Katherine Pov"Must I wake you up everyday?" Jade whispered to my ear. I was glad he whispered, imagine he yelled like he used to. That would have doubled whatever I was feeling. "Oh, it's morning already," I mumbled, putting the pillow over my head. "Yes and you need to get up," he urged me. "I will, I just need you to help me close that freaking window that is opened, it's so cold right now," I begged. Jade looked at me, turning his head to the side, to watch my moves. "Okay," he said slowly, then he walked down to the window and shut it closed. The wind stopped blowing right immediately, I muttered a thank you to him and he nodded, still watching me closely. Sniffing from the running nose I have had since last night, I walked down to the bathroom. I was nowhere near okay and it was not any better this morning. Jade had his suspicions but I could not afford to let him clarify it. He won't let me out of the house or room again. Turning on the steamer, I let the water steam

Jade PovJust after one hit, she passed out. I watched Katherine stagger backwards, holding her nose that was hit before landing on the ground. At first I thought it was an act, so I moved closer to her to raise her hand up, but it fell to the ground instead. That was when I began to panic. She was really unconscious. The thought of me killing my own mate crossed my mind and I shuddered. Lifting her up, I began to run to the pack hospital. The sun was already rising and people were already beginning to wake up. I rushed into the hospital and took her to an empty wardroom. "Someone give me some attention!" I boomed when I realised no one followed me into the ward. Soon two nurses rushed in, checking her up. "Sir you need to go–""I'm staying here," I demanded. I was the one in charge and she could not object as much as she wanted to. I watched them do their stuff and I could barely understand what they were doing. My ears focused on her heartbeat to make sure they were still pump

Katherine pov Slowly, I opened my eyes, greeted by the harsh, sterile light of the hospital room. Tubes and wires surrounded me, leading to an unfamiliar bed. My head throbbed with a dull ache as I tried to piece together the events that led me here.Jade, the intense training session, and then nothing. Darkness.A soft voice disrupted my thoughts as a nurse entered. "Good morning, Katherine. I'm Nurse Carter. You've been unconscious for a while."Unconscious, again? Questions swirled in my mind. "What happened?"Nurse Carter approached, her gaze serious. "During your training with Jade, you suffered a significant blow that made you go unconscious. But that's not the only issue. You were infected by a parasite from a previous encounter with a stray wolf."A parasite? My eyes widened with disbelief. "But I felt fine before the training session."The nurse sighed, "These parasites often remain dormant until triggered. The trauma from the recent fight awakened it. However, Jade testifie

"Woah, are you okay?"Her eyes became really glassy and I watched a tear slip down from her eyes. "No."I hated that she cried, so instinctively, I rushed to her. "You'll be okay. I promise," I assured, collecting her into my arms for a hug, hoping that it helped. "No. It's deeper than that. It's not okay," Katherine argued, shaking my head but I didn't care if she thought of her situation as too bad to fix, I was going to help her through it. "What's wrong, Katherine? Did the doctor do or say anything to you—""I don't have a wolf form, Jade." She interrupted. I stood still, processing the information properly before trying to say anything. "What?" I questioned in confusion. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you it Jude all this while. I wanted to, I swear, I was just scared that you both would reject me and I'd have to leave the

"I'm talking to the both of you."I listened carefully as their footsteps receded into the distance. "Don't worry. They wouldn't even hear the right things we say unless I let them," Dorcas shrugged. I narrowed my gaze at her, wondering if I would consider her a friend or a foe. "Katherine, that's a lot of backstory. We could write a novel and make a hit," she joked, picking a flower pot and playing around with it.Dorcas's eyes traced my every detail, and unease crept through me like a shadow in the dimly lit wardroom. This discovery hit me like a thunderbolt, as it began to make sense of the mysterious waves of sickness I had been experiencing lately.I had never even thought about the possibility of being pregnant. My reduced sense of smell and sight had gone unnoticed, and not even I or anyone else had picked up on the signs. The realization that I carried a new life within me was both thrilling and worrying, a bittersweet discovery in the middle of our clash.I grappled with the conflicting emotions rushing through me. On one hand, the news of my pregnancy filled me with a sense of wonder and the promise of a new life. Yet, the timing could not have been worse, as I found myself locked in a high-stakes duel with my sworn enemy, Castro. How Castro had uncovered this information remained a myste

If you do, the entire kingdom will by law be forced to turn against you and pick a new ruler by themselves. Your head will be cut off and as will mine but unlike you, both our deaths are a price I’m willing to pay,” I explained, knowing that the consequences were too brutal for him to reject. His gaze changed from a playful smile to a death glare at me. I had fearlessly challenged my sworn enemy to a fight to the death, leaving him with no option to refuse. The stakes were incredibly high, and the outcome would determine both our fates. In my heart, I firmly believed that only two possibilities awaited us: either I would lose my life, or Casto would suffer his ultimate defeat. However, my joy quickly turned to concern as I noticed Susie's mother hastily covering her mouth with her hand, her eyes pleading with me to stay away. She shook her head and I could have sworn I saw tears cloud her eyes. So I stepped back, I stopped. Seeing Susie brought me a sense of relief, knowing that she was safe, but I couldn't ignore the fear that clouded the expressions of both mother and daughter. It sent shivers down my spine. In that moment, my disdain for Casto intensified. They had stripped these people of their freedom, confining them in a state of constant fear and oppression. The sight reinforced my determination to fight against the oppressive forces that had taken hold of our once vibrant and free community.I lived these few months in joy while my people suffered and even now that I had returned, I was helpless and they remained hopeless. The very idea left a bitter taste in my mouth. How could they believe that sacrificing one person for the sake of appeasement would bring any true resolution?I clenched my fists, feeling an overwhelming surge of indignation. The council's incompetence enraged me. They failed to see the bigger picture, the human cost of their decisions. They were willing to play with lives, treating them like pawns on a chessboard.Jasmine stood beside me, her eyes filled with apprehension and vulnerability. I couldn't bear the th

The commotion from this morning had come to an end before it was even noon, everyone had gone back to their daily lives, and the victims were admitted to the hospital.
