ISABELLE’S POV
I stood by my window, watching as snow fell thick and heavy, blanketing the grounds in pristine white.
My maids rushed around me, changing me out of my dress and brushing through my tangled knots.
My mind was racing with the ordeal of today. I could still feel the presence of my wolf in my mind even when she was silent.
My maids carefully dropped a fur-lined coat over my shoulders, sweeping my hair to the side.
I turned around to face the mirror, my eyes inspecting every part of my figure. I looked up above my head, nothing was there but empty air but I knew the truth. There was a timer over my head and when the time ran out, I would die.
Desperation clawed through me as I silently begged the goddess for the next target to appear or I would turn the pack upside down to find the person myself.
My maid walked between me and the mirror sliding hand warmers onto my hands. I broke away from my thoughts and turned towards the door to leave for the palace.
A chill ran through me as I stepped out of the manor, the cold wind hitting my face. This was harder than I imagined.
The driver held the back door of a waiting car open for me, bowing slightly, and I slid inside without a second thought.
I welcomed the warmth of the car, wrangling my hands together nervously as I waited for the driver to start the car.
Rowan strode through the manor doors and approached, stepping toward the car door to join me.
As he pulled open the back door, leaning down to come in, I put up a hand to stop him.
“Rowan, remember, we’re keeping our distance. We cannot arrive together.” I said firmly, my gaze sharp. I can't show up to the palace in the same car as Rowan, I can't afford for people to think I was still infatuated with him– it would make finding other men to break the curse impossible.
And I desperately needed to keep him out of my mind. If I was going to really do this I can't be close to him or I would just keep thinking about him.
He raised a brow pausing just outside the door, a little taken back. “Princess Isabelle, this is my car,” he replied, with a nervous chuckle.
Heat flushed my cheeks, and I quickly looked away in embarrassment.
“Oh. Right.” I muttered under my breath, glancing around the interior of the car.
I glanced around for my maid, feeling a little awkward. I need another car.
I pushed the car door open, waving over my maid. “Yes, Your Highness.” She replied instantly as she approached.
“Get another car–” I started, but my wolf’s impatient voice broke through, urging me to let it go. “Just get through this quickly. You’ve got bigger things to worry about than looking embarrassed.”
With a deep sigh, I settled back into the seat, sliding the door closed. “Let's go,” I whispered, avoiding his eyes.
Rowan watched me for a moment before he finally climbed in beside me and closed the door.
The car’s engine roared alive and we pulled out of the manor's driveway.
The tension in the car was thick and heavy as we sat together in silence.
I could feel his warmth coming from him in waves, his arm mere few inches from mine. I kept my gaze fixed out the window, ignoring the small thrill that still sparked in my chest from his closeness and familiar scent.
My heart still skipped a beat from sitting so close to him, old habits were hard to shake, and I couldn't help but feel the familiar rush of excitement from being in his presence.
“Can’t you just find another heart-fluttering target?” my wolf scoffed with annoyance, eying me. “There are plenty of men out there. And here he is asking you to plead for another woman’s life. What irrational feelings do you still hold onto?”
I turned my head slightly and glanced at Rowan, silently agreeing. As I peeked at him from the corner of my eye, I slowly nodded in agreement.
Why was I still clinging to these feelings when it's obvious he didn't want me? Sitting here now so close to him, he didn’t seem nearly as extraordinary as I built him up to be in my head.
Just as I turned back to the window , the car suddenly jerked to the left, and the driver slammed on the brakes hard. “Sorry, a sports car appeared out of nowhere.” He quickly muttered.
My body lurched forward towards Rowan, but I quickly threw my hands out, bracing my body with both hands in the leather seats to stop me from falling onto him.
I felt his body stiffen beside me, his gaze meeting mine as he noticed my sudden reaction, a look of concern and confusion flickered over his usually composed expression.
“Are you all right?” he asked softly, his gaze flickering over me.
I pulled back, straightening myself back into the seat and moved an inch away from him. “I’m fine,” I replied curtly. “Just… keeping my distance.”
His brows furrowed, and for a moment, he looked like he wanted to say something more. But the words never came, and he turned back to face the
window. We rode in tense silence the rest of the way to the palace.
Finally, the palace gates were in view in the distance, the massive wrought iron structures covered in snow.
I let out a breath of relief, the car slowing as we pulled up to the entrance.
I was about to step out of the car when I noticed a figure crouching in the distance.
I squinted my eyes, my vision a little blurry from the fog and there, right in the swirling snow, a huge man knelt at the base of the grand staircase leading up to the palace doors.
Broad-shouldered with a commanding presence, his dark coat was nearly invisible under the blanket of snow covering him.
My heart skipped a beat, my attention snapping to the man in the snow. I had no idea who he was, but something about him stirred an electric current within me. Who was that?
I tried to make out his face, when my wolf perked up, a thrill of recognition sparking through our bond. “I think… I’ve found our next target,” she whispered with excitement.
ISABELLE’S POVAs I climbed onto the grand palace steps, a surge of warmth spread through me, even in the chilling cold. My gaze stayed fixed on the figure kneeling in the snow. I cast a glance at the guards standing stiffly at attention by the double doors. “Who is that man kneeling in the snow?” I asked, brimming with curiosity. The guards stiffened, and one answered, “That's the pack Zeta, General Kael. He was originally stationed at the border to defend the pack, but he recently returned.”My wolf’s voice echoed in my mind as she pranced around. “This is your chance. Go and introduce yourself.”I considered her suggestion, my gaze flickering back to the figure but I had other priorities right now. One thing first, I thought, pushing down the strange warmth in my chest as I walked into the palace beside Rowan. The huge doors closed with a loud thud behind us and we approached the throne room silently. My brother's face lit up as he saw me, his usually stoic expression breaking
ISABELLE’S POVThe air bristled with tension as I stared at Kael, he stayed kneeling in the thick snow, his expression cold and hardened. His silence stirred something of a mix of frustration and fascination within me.I let out a deep sigh of disappointment. "You’re breaking my heart with your cold demeanour, you know." But still, Kael remained silent, not even a flicker of emotion breaking through his cool mask. So, he’s a tough nut to crack, I mused, feeling a thrill run through me at the challenge. I let go and tossed my cloak and hand warmer at him. “Kneeling here to plead for your brother is pointless. You won't get what you want from the Emperor like this.”Finally, he stirred him, his expression faltering for a second. Kael looked up, and his eyes met mine, momentarily softening as he took in my features. My wolf sensed a faint glint of admiration in his gaze before his face hardened, returning to his icy expression.“What do you mean?” he growled, his tone clipped and sharp
ISABELLE'S POV“But there is something you must know,” Tristan said just as I turned to leave the throne room. “Kael’s brother was not only accused of assault, but he also publicly declared his intent to overthrow my rule.” He continued, his tone steady. My brows shot up as I heard the news, my heart skipping a beat. Rebellion was the highest form of treason in the Night fall pack and was also punishable by death. My wolf bristled, sensing how serious the situation just became. I let out a deep breath, quickly composing myself. “If this news is true,” I said firmly, “I wouldn’t hesitate to carry out the punishment for such a crime myself. No one has the right to challenge our family’s rule and go unpunished.”Tristan’s eyes softened at my words. “We don’t have conclusive proof yet, and there are so many holes in the case that don’t sit right with me.”My interest was instantly piqued and I took a step towards the throne. “Then let me go along with my investigation. I’ll find out t
ISABELLE'S POVAs we rode through the streets, the low hum of the engine, the only sound in the car.I glanced at Kael, it was obvious he was still tense, staring out the window with a furrowed brow as if lost in thought. My wolf whispered pranced, nudging me to break through his stoic prickly exterior.“What did you mean back there?” He asked, his voice filled with curiosity. I leaned slightly towards his warmth, my eyes glinting with mischief. ‘You need to play hard to keep his attention solely on you.’ She suggested.I agreed, a little mystery would keep him on his toes. “Am I beautiful?” I murmured, tilting my head and brushing my hair out of my face with a coy smile.Kael’s face flushed a deep crimson, his body stiffening. “I… yes,” he admitted, in a mere whisper. “Yes, Princess… you are beautiful.” Warmth bloomed inside me, my heart racing at his response. It was all meant to just be a game, or so I thought, yet his words pulled at something deep in me. My wolf hummed with a
ISABELLE'S POVMy eyes narrowed as I watched him lower his head as he admitted, “I did go to the club.”“And did you go alone?” I asked, my tone sharp and firm.He stammered, his face growing pale. My wolf stirred, urging me to press him further for answers. I could sense there was more to what happened that he wasn’t saying. I just needed to scare the truth out of him.“Levi,” I called out, my tone turned icy. “This is your very last chance. Your brother went through so much just to get here and see you, and we both know this prison is crawling with rats and cockroaches. If you don’t want to live like this and then be executed, you’d better be honest with us right now.”His grip on the bars trembled, his lips quivering as he finally broke down. “It wasn’t my idea. A friend… he told me it was a fun place, and I thought we were just going to hang out. I didn’t know it was a club until we got there. When I went in, I… I saw…” He swallowed hard, his face flushing red with embarrassment.
ISABELLE’S POVWhen we arrived at Rowan's house his guards gave me a curious look as I stepped out of the car.My presence here was already a familiar sight to them from the days I used to wait around, eager to see Rowan. They bowed with respect and turned prepared to notify Rowan of my arrival immediately. But there was a spark in my eyes as I announced, “I’m not here for Rowan. I came here to see Thane. Take me to him—now.”The guards froze, murmurs echoing through them at the sudden change. Just then, the door opened, and Rowan himself stepped out, a surprised look on his face that he hid it with a polite smile. But before he could approach us or say a word, I moved to Kael’s side, linking my arm through his. Rowan's eyes flickered with surprise, his gaze fixed on the link between Karl's and my arm.I pulled him closer, raising my voice cheerfully. “I’m so exhausted from the day’s events and would love a nice warm meal. Rowan, be a good host and prepare some food. Thane and his s
ISABELLE’S POVI was satisfied as Kael and I stepped out through the doors of Rowan's house. We have gotten the confirmation we needed: Kael’s brother was innocent of the rape and assault charge, even though the accusation of treason still loomed over him. My wolf nudged me with a sly suggestion, ‘You need to use this opportunity to extract more from Kael. After all, you had already solved half his problem.’ I smirked coyly, feeling a surge of confidence at the chance to take control.Whirling around to face Kael, I let out a casual sigh. “Well, I guess I have fulfilled my promise to prove your brother’s innocence—at least for the assault accusation,” I said, keeping my tone light but watching for his reaction.Kael's head snapped towards me, his eyes meeting mine filled with confusion. “What do you mean Isabelle?” He growled.“I mean, I'm done here. You now have evidence proving your brother is innocent of the assault charges.”“Wait, but we agreed to honour our deal once my brothe
KAEL’S POVThere was absolutely nothing I could do to shake the flustered feeling from Isabelle’s boldness. Her brash demands to have me in her bed were outrageous but she whispered them like it was absolutely normal.I felt trapped, not by her words, but by the intensity of her gaze as she stared at me waiting for a response. My ears flushed crimson, and an intense heat spread through my body, but I quickly quelled the fire, my jaw clenched in frustration. My instinct was to shut her down and end all of this. But I couldn't think of hesitating to deny her, not now that we were finally making some progress on the case.If Isabelle abandoned the investigation now, my brother’s life would be ruined, and I just couldn’t allow that to happen. For Levi's sake, I had reluctantly agreed to her terms, even though I was still reeling from the implications of her words. When Rowan offered to also help solve the case, I could see the reluctance in Isabelle's eyes that she was going to reject h
ISABELLE’S POVMy breath caught in my throat, but I quickly masked my reaction. “I am doing nothing of the sort, Rowan. I’m simply acting with what I see and observe. Perhaps you should do the same.”His eyes darkened, and his expression tightened. “Do you actually believe that I have any intentions towards her?” He growled, his frustration evident in his clenched jaw.Swallowing my unease for his closeness, I squared my shoulders. “Yes, Rowan. I do. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’d like some time alone without you following me around.”My heart was pounding from the tension between us, heavy and charged, but I refused to look down and walk away. His words hung in the air, heavy and dark. I stared at him, my mind racing. Why had he been waiting for me? What did he mean by what he was saying?Gathering my composure, my gaze flickered over him cautiously, “Tell me exactly why you were waiting for me?”His piercing gaze met mine and he stepped even closer, till there was only a single inch
ISABELLE’S POVI arched my eyebrows, tilting my head towards her. “And what is this matter that must be addressed?” I asked incredulously.I could see the envy shining in Tania's eyes and the clear irritation under her skin as she looked at Lila. She was going to find a way to bring her down at any cost, even if it meant lying. Her dark gaze shifted to Lila, her eyes narrowing with clear disdain. “This girl owes me something—an item that rightfully belongs to me. The necklace around her neck.”The room fell silent as all eyes turned to Tania with full attention. My expression hardened, and my wolf growled softly in my mind. ‘This girl’s arrogance knows no bounds.’ She snapped.I took a deep breath to remain calm, and then I cocked my head and asked, “And how does the necklace Lila is wearing suddenly belong to you, Lady Tania?”Tania straightened, clearly thrilled her plan to humiliate Lila seemed to be working. “Her necklace is a delicate piece, silver with a sapphire pendant. Lila
ISABELLE’S POV The intensity of his sharp look sent a chill down my spine, but I refused to let it show one bit. Instead, I cocked my head at him, arching my eyebrow and maintaining my composure. My wolf didn't stay quiet. ‘Told you meddling in his affairs wouldn’t end well. He seems furious. Are you satisfied now?’ she growled with disapproval.‘He’ll get over it,’ I shot back inwardly, not backing down for a second.Tristan stepped forward, his eyes darting between us, he could already sense the rising tension in the room and let out a light chuckle to diffuse it. “Then let’s forget about it,” he said, dismissing my proposition with a wave of his hand. The crowd began murmuring once again, their tones shifting.“It seems the princess has truly moved on from the Beta,” someone remarked.“Yes, she wouldn’t have proposed it otherwise,” another agreed.Once Matilda stepped away, the crowd eased up and dispersed. Rowan shot me one last look before he also turned around and walked away
ISABELLE’S POVThe murmurs instantly ceased, and a line cleared amongst the crowd as they quickly stepped aside for me to walk past all bowing in unison. I walked in with a tiara that accentuated my royal bearing, but as I stepped inside, I could feel Rowan's presence right behind me.I quickened my pace, to put some distance between us, but I could still feel him trailing close behind me, his presence frustratingly too close.I threw a sharp glance over my shoulder, my voice low but firm. “Why must you follow me everywhere?”Rowan smirked, unfazed by my question or my demeanor. “It would be improper for me to distance myself from the princess, don’t you think?”My wolf snickered, clearly irritated by his cockiness.I quickened my pace, determined to shake off the rumours that my entrance with Rowan would soon spark. I could feel the eyes of the crowd boring through us, I knew they would soon start gossiping about us being back together.I needed to escape him so I quickly strode tow
ISABELLE’S POV“You think you belong here?” one of the women at the head of the circle sneered. “With such an ugly dress? Did you sew it yourself?”The circle erupted in laughter. “Honestly, the audacity of some ugly paupers to show up to the palace New Year banquet in nothing but rags.”My blood boiled as I watched the scene unfold. My attention remained fixed on the group gathered near the bushes. At their centre stood a tall slender woman, with dark luscious hair, her voice sharp as she mocked a plainly dressed girl clutching a necklace.“You dare bring this cheap trinket to a royal ball?” she sneered, yanking the necklace from her hands. The girl in the middle held her head up high despite the humiliation and mocking. “That necklace was my mother’s. Please return it,” she asked calmly, although her voice was shaking with emotions. The bully's lips curled into a cruel smile as she held the necklace up with one finger. “Why would I return this trash to you?” She mocked.“Please, d..
ISABELLE’S POVAlan looked away, his voice barely audible. “You are clearly of noble descent. And I'm just a struggling painter trying to make ends meet. We are from very different worlds.”For a moment, I stared at him and didn’t know what to say. Hearing such words from Alan touched me more than I expected.“You’re wrong,” I spat out, my voice sharp and firm. “Alan, you’re one of the most confident, most talented people I have ever met. Our worth isn’t defined by titles or wealth.”Alan’s eyes flicked up to meet mine, and for a moment, there was tense silence between us.I leaned in closer to him, our warm breaths mingling in the air between us. “I don’t care about status or wealth,” I whispered, my voice gentle and tender. “Those things don’t matter to me.”His face turned a deeper shade of crimson, his body trembling beside mine. I giggled softly, and I couldn't resist leaning in and pressing a gentle kiss to his cold cheek. Alan froze, his heart pounding loud enough for me to he
ROWAN’S POVShe hesitated for a second, biting her lower lip. “She’s already invited me, hasn't she? Maybe... maybe it’s time I stopped seeing her as my enemy. I don’t think she hates me anymore.”I studied her closely through the mirror, my brows furrowed. Matilda had always been timid, hiding behind others. But deep down, I knew she wasn't a bad person.“Well then, I guess I'll come with you,” I said after a moment.Matilda smiled faintly. “Thank you, Rowan,” she whispered.Despite my calm exterior, I was feeling a strange tension gnawing at me. Something was disturbing me and—it was Isabelle. For some reason I couldn't explain, I also wanted more interactions with her. Ever since she suddenly stopped clinging to me or chasing me, I couldn’t shake the unease I was feeling in my gutIt was as though I lost something without even realizing it.ISABELLE’S POVOnce I left the supermarket, I went straight to Alan’s modest home with the groceries I bought. My mind still wandered briefly
ISABELLE’S POVI turned around, only to find myself face-to-face with Beta Rowan. He had a dark scowl on his face, but his stern expression immediately softened when he saw Matilda still lying helplessly on the floor. Before I could say a single word, she scrambled off the ground and rushed towards him to stand behind his towering figure, clutching his arm and casting a wary glance back at me with an innocent expression.Rowan watched the scene with confusion, his gaze flickering between us. His frown deepened when he looked down at Matilda behind him.“What’s going on here?” Rowan asked, his deep voice filled with concern as he looked between both of us.Matilda, looked up at him with her doe-like eyes, “I-It’s nothing, really. Princess Isabelle was just... pressuring me.” she said, her voice trembling.Rowan's eyes whipped back towards me, a deep frown marrying his features. I could see the questions in his gaze, wondering who to believe.I can't believe Matilda would go as far as l
RYKER’S POVI stared at Isabelle in utter shock, her confident confession hanging heavy in the air between us. Her words were bold and direct, cutting through my usual stoic defences like a sharp blade.“I’m here because of you,” she said and I couldn't get her voice out of my head.It wasn’t just her words but the way she said them—with so much sincerity and brashness—that managed to throw me off balance. For the first time in so many years, I was not sure of how to respond. For a man like me, used to control, logic and order, the raw emotion I could feel in her voice left me almost speechless. My wolf growled, urging me to respond and acknowledge the feelings stirring deep within me. But I just couldn’t, I needed to leave.I was flustered under her prying gaze, my face turning a deep shade of red that spread down my neck.I took a step back, “I... I need to review a case file,” I blurted, stumbling over my words as I quickly retreated.Without waiting for her reply, I spun on my he
