Mabel's POV

Okay, that came out a little harsher than I intended. I regretted it immediately, but I didn't say anything; I hastened my footsteps up the stairs.

Soon, I was in my room. I took a warm bath and surprisingly, sleep came.

I gave myself into it, I needed to forget my current situation, even for a moment.

The next day, I woke up a few minutes past noon; I was surprised at how long I had slept.

I switched my phone on. In a few seconds, the notifications started flooding in. My dad had called 5 times since yesterday.

My aunt called 16 times and Dylan called 8 times. I saw other missed calls from unknown callers but I wasn't sure what to do with them.

I was about to dial my dad's number when his call came in. With a deep breath, I pressed the receive button.

“Oh my God, darling you scared me!” my dad's voice came from the other end. Worry dripped from his voice.

“I got scared when I couldn't reach you!” He added. I knew he was worried, but I felt too much shame to face hi

If looks could kill, he would've been long dead.I hissed in disgust, loud enough for anyone in the living room to hear, and then I entered the kitchen. It was my first time in the kitchen since my arrival here.It was spacious and well-constructed, but I didn't have the time to admire it. I was too upset.First I grabbed a glass and tried to pour myself some water, but it slipped and fell. Just great! Thanks to my quick reflexes, I removed my foot before the glass reached the ground.I hissed again in frustration and bent down to pick up the broken pieces.Nora rushed forward and knelt before me, “Are you hurt?” I didn't realize she was in the kitchen, I was blinded by rage. I didn't see anyone apart from the demon that ruined my life.“No, “

His eyes studying my expression as if to read my mind.“No one,” I said curtly, leaning back into my chair.“So, she's a ghost?” He eyed me, obviously not buying my shit.I fought the urge to burst into a howl of laughter.“Maybe,” I responded uninterestedly.“Am I a joke to you?” His eyes lingered on the card Olivia had left on the table.“Do you want to be a joke?” I shot back.“You haven't seen me for days and the first thing you do is pick a fight with me?” I asked, tired of his childishness. Why try to pry into someone's privacy if they don’t want you to?His eyes flickered in amusement, followed by his lamentation.“You always manage to turn things around and make it seem like my fault!” “Whose fault is it then?” I asked him. He opened his mouth to say a word but he shut it back almost immediately, eying me.I sighed in exhaustion. I have a lot of problems, letting these little things get t

  • The Love We Almost Had    Chapter 1: The wedding

Mabel's POVI took a deep breath, reminding myself that everything would soon come to an end. I didn't want this wedding; neither of us did. The marriage certificate had already been signed, so there was no need for any of this. I'm only doing this for my father. It's his most anticipated moment, and I won't rob him of that. The doors opened, and I looked at my father, who was all smiles.“Are you ready?” he asked me. But what if I wasn't? Would that change anything?“Yes, Dad.” I forced a smile. He reached for my hand, taking it on his left side while his right hand rolled the wheel of his chair, and we gently strolled down the aisle. It felt like the longest walk of my life. I could see the priest and the man standing before him—the one I was supposed to marry. I had never met him before. He had come back to the country a few months ago, and now we were supposed to get married. I knew nothing about this man.The empty church pews seemed to mock me. This was not how I had imagined g

Mabel’s POV When I entered I didn't realize there was someone else in the room.I turned slowly and I saw him. But I couldn't make out his features from where he sat cross-legged. If I had scanned the room when I entered, I would've spotted him at the far left corner of the living room.“Mr Ferguson?” I called to be sure it was him before giving a piece of my mind.He didn't say a word. He uncrossed his legs and stood up, taking slow but steady strides towards me. He walked like someone accustomed to obedience from others. He stopped about four feet from where I stood. There was an unusual coldness in the room due to his presence. His presence was dominating and intimidating.I took my time to scrutinize his facial features: well-pointed nose, sharp jawline, beautiful brown eyes, and tempting pink lips. His lower lip was slightly fuller, giving him the perfect look for modeling. I must say, his face was perfectly sculpted. His beard was neatly trimmed and brown hair professionally

Mabel's POV I stormed out of Landon's office with my fists tightly clenched, my knuckles turning white. My anger and frustration was evident.I didn't spare Dylan a glance. I headed straight for the elevator. He rushed to keep up with my pace, not saying a word. I could tell he wanted to blame me for not keeping my anger in check thereby messing everything up. But he sensed it wasn't the right time to ditch out blames or he might end up as a victim of my wrath. We got into the elevator and the people who were already in it shifted uncomfortably, keeping a safe distance from me. Dylan smiled apologetically at them, earning a hard glare from me. The smile quickly disappeared from his face. When the elevator stopped, I marched out, not waiting for Dylan.I got to the parking lot and opened the door to the driver's side, but I didn't get in immediately.I turned and stretched out my palm.“The keys!” I demanded. His eyes widened in horror. “W– what keys?” He feigned ignorance, but I

That's when I realized I was still in that posture.I quickly adjusted myself and straightened my shirt.“It's okay, President Ferguson will see them now,” AJ responded and gestured for me to go to him.I stuck out my tongue at them victoriously. The bodyguards looked surprised and they didn't try to hide it.“What are you looking at? Get back to work!” AJ shooed the workers away.We entered the place where I assume would be the reception after the furniture and everything had been set up.“Will you go to President Ferguson looking like that?” He gestured to my feet, and I realized I was still barefoot.I col
