Edward's pov

She wiped her tears and put on her glasses again. “You thought I was flirting with your brother… how would I give myself another chance to get hurt. To suffer. To feel the pain of being hurt by a person who was supposed to love me… try only to be misjudged, betrayed…” Her voice trembled at the end. “people hurt.”

I wanted to say something, anything—but I had already said too much. And no words would undo the damage I'd caused .

The sound of the door opening broke the heavy silence. George walked in with a weak smile that didn't reach his eyes. “It's great to see you awake, Miss Bella. How do you feel?”

“I feel…” she paused, searching for words, “alive… Weak, but alive.”

“Do you mind if I check your pulse?”

Her eyes flicked to me. Her face was blank. For the first time she was unreadable. “Why would I mind?” she said flatly. Echoing my own words from before.

“You are still weak, miss Bella.” He gently took her wrist and checked her purse . “You'll have to stay…”

Edward's pov Tears began to fall from my eyes as I remembered everything Christiane had done to me. Her promises. Her lies. It had been so obvious, but I insisted on ignoring the truth. Her love was never real. I was nothing but a pawn in her game. Me. Sarah. My family. How was I supposed to trust after that? Why would I let myself care, only to feel the same pain? Bella's hand reached up to my face, gently wiping the tears that wouldn't stop coming. It had been so long since the last time I cried. Since the last time I showed myself to show weakness. I caught her hand and turned away. “I'm sorry. I was not supposed to…” “It's okay,” her voice came soft. “it's okay to cry sometimes. Look at me. I do it all the time.” She let out a small laugh. “Crying doesn't mean you are weak. It means you are strong enough to admit that it hurts.” I looked at her. Tears were falling from her eyes too. She is too much for the world I live in. Too kind—especially after what I'd done to her. I c

Edward's pov Bella was still lost in her own world when my phone buzzed. I pulled it out, glanced at the screen. I was Bryan. He never calls to give good hews. I let out a sigh and answered, “Talk, Bryan.” “Sir. The investor is already on my neck. I have no idea what to do now. They… they don't want to give us time. They want it for two days. That's all I could get. I know you could have got more b… but you didn't show up today.” he paused, “Sir? Sir Wills…” I disconnected the call. My jaw tightened slightly. My hand went to the back of my head, fingers raking through my hair, but nothing could smooth out the frustration building inside me. “Sir…” Bella's voice came gently. I looked at her—opened his mouth, but nothing came out. “Tell me what happened.” I whispered. I sighed. How do I tell her? How do I tell her that I'm a failure? Even after five years, I didn't recover. “I… my company is almost bankrupt.” The words left my mouth at least. “I have no idea what to do.” She fli

Unknown's pov “Talk, Cleo.” I snapped, glaring at that useless maid. It has been almost a week and she still hasn't provided a well detailed report of what's going on in that mansion. “Edward keeps working everyday, all day to recover from…” she lowered her gaze. “The incident five years ago.” I took a slow step towards her. The sharp click of my heels echoed through the room, each tap louder than the last. Her body trembled under my gaze. I know perfectly what that look is. That could only mean one thing—fear. “You are hiding things from me.” I stopped just inches from her. “What else, Cleo? You gotta have more than that.” She dug deep into her thoughts, a big frown appearing on her face. “There is a girl… Bella.” The name came out of her mouth like venom. “She is always doing too much, doing chores that are not meant to her… cooks every day. Everyone likes her. She is… dangerous. We have to get rid of her.” A slow, wished smile crept through my lips. “Oh, really? And why is t

Bella's pov I opened my eyes—finally a good night of sleep. No idea if it was out of exhaustion or just because of the fact that after three chaotic days I could finally breathe like a normal person. My eyes roamed around. I was in that same blurry and shapeless room, but it no longer felt foreign, out of place. I reached out blindly, fumbling for my glasses on the nightstand. Once I slipped them on, the world cleared. And the first thing I saw? The painting by the window. The Feeling of Home. That’s what I named it. We finished it yesterday. A mix of soft colors and open shapes, the kind of thing that wraps you in warmth—like a hug, or fingers gently brushing against yours. It was everything I wanted this house to feel like. Everything I wanted to give to everyone that will have a place in that sweet project. I sat up and sighed, stretching the heaviness out of my limbs. “Today is going to be different,” I whispered like a prayer. That's when my phone buzzed. The screen lit up

Christine's pov “What do you mean you couldn’t?” I snapped. My voice echoed against the high walls of the penthouse, slicing through the silence like a blade. It was a simple chore. Get rid of Bella. That was it. What’s so difficult about dealing with a walking disaster in borrowed skin? “She went out…” Carl mumbled, eyes cast downward like a dog waiting for a beating. “And why didn't you follow her, genius?” “She went out… with Edward.” what? With my Edward? The words slammed into my chest like a metal door. My blood started to boil just by listening to that plague’s name again. For a moment I stood there, blinking, trying to control the tremor in my hands. Bella. Bella. That wretched, clingy name again and again. I began pacing the room, my heels thudding against the marble floor. The fury was simmering now, growing hotter with every step. “This is bad,” I muttered. “That Bella person… she’s not just a threat. She’s a time bomb.” I had plotted a perfect plan. A flawless, sur

  • The Love I Couldn't See   New Start

Bella's pov I roamed around my room, here and there, looking for a perfect outfit to wear. Trying my best to match the colours, patterns, accessories. I was really tempted to wear sneakers—but who wears sneakers for an interview? I don't want people judging me again and definitely not because of something this small. After what seemed like an eternity, I decided for a white long sleeve and a beige circular skirt right below my knees. Flat shoes, because I can't handle the idea of torturing myself with high heels just because of some stupid pattern of this stupid society I live in. A little make up. Just lipgloss and a thin layer of mascara. No foundation. I'll let my beautiful dark skin shine with its freckles and acne scars. My long black curly hair tied up into a messy bun, just like always, the way I like. I looked at my reflection in the mirror, not sure if it was enough—if I was enough. Is this really it? I questioned myself, Is this enough to face this world I've been tr

Bella's pov We got out of there. I might be almost blind, but my hearing is perfect. I tried to ignore it, but the whispers were too loud, “Look, is that girl from earlier…” “She looks a mess, frankly…” “She really thought she was the one… what does she have special? So ridiculous…” “Shhh, she might hear you. She is having a bad time… let's admire in silence.” And their giggles were what I heard next. Their voices, so sweet and delicate—just like a poisonous flower, beautiful but deadly. We reached my brother's car and he helped me in. There was a moment of silence, a lot of questions roaming in my head. About what just happened, but especially about that man that caused all of this mess. How can someone be so cold? I'm sure he could hear me. But still, he didn't bother to help me. And about the gaze I felt—there is no way I'm wrong. But, what's the use of this? It won't change a thing after all. It won't change the pain I'm feeling, the wounds inside that seem so impossible to

Edward's pov “No, they are too messy. They don't even make sense…” I told my assistant, Bryan over the phone. “What? But…” “Don’t try to reason, Bryan. “ I cut him off, “I've already told you, I don't like their designs. They lack of everything. Get me more ideas, more people. It's not that difficult… look, I'm driving. I'll be there in five minutes. Make sure to not waste my time.” I told him. He probably knows how his inefficiency is getting on my nerves lately. “Yes, boss.” He said and I disconnected the call. I'm already running out of time. This project needs to be perfection, but nothing yet aligns my thinking. “Morning, Sir Wilson.” The receptionist greeted me once I reached Crystal's, “She is here.” Great. I hope she is what I need. I went straight to my personal elevator and clicked to the ninth floor. Where I am to interview my possible new designer. I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket and took it to check what it was. It was a message from Jared, my brother. “We

Bella's pov “Everything is set. Camilla, fix her make up. I want her perfect. You hear me. Perfeita.” My stylist shouted for everyone to hear. I had to be perfect—after all, it was my wedding day. I glanced at my reflection in the mirror. Beautiful in a unique dress. Pure white. No sparkles. No lace. Clean, simple, perfect. The only thing that was supposed to shine was… me. The one meant to give meaning to the dress. To implement everything. To make it work. Make it perfect. The door opened and my brother walked in. He couldn't contain the gasp at the moment his caramel eyes met me. “Sis. I better hide you somewhere before you steal everyone's breath.” A wide smile tugged at my lips after hearing his words full of love. That smile you don't plan. Just happens when you see someone who loves you. He is everything I have. No mum. No dad. We had lost them a few years ago, but the sweet memories we shared together never left me. The cooking lessons. The football games. Family nights

  • The Love I Couldn't See   I Happened To Her

Bella's pov I wiped my cheeks with trembling fingers and forced myself up from the cold floor. No more silence. No more pretending. I’d promised Sarah something I couldn’t keep—not because I didn’t want to, but because someone kept making it impossible… because of him. My steps were firm, echoing down the hallway. I didn’t even knock. I pushed the office door open, and there he was—Edward—seated behind his massive desk, face buried in some document, as if the world outside his papers didn’t exist. He didn’t even flinch at my entrance. Of course he didn’t. He doesn't care. “You,” I started, my voice shaky but loud. His eyes finally lifted, calm and monotonous. “Is there something you need?” he asked, his voice clipped. Cold. Polite. As if I were some guest. “Yes,” I stepped in and shut the door behind me with a quiet click. “I need to understand why you act like nothing matters. Why do you ignore Sarah? Why do you keep making me feel like an inconvenience in this house? Why… why d

What does he mean? “Oh, Ed is my…” “Sir Wilson,” a security guard interrupted, “a man named Ed is here.” My breath caught in my throat. My chest bloomed with warmth and colors I thought I’d lost in the two days I’d spent in this place. “Oh my God. Let him in, please!” I didn’t wait for a reply. I ran out, excited like a little girl on her first date. Two minutes and twenty-four seconds was the time I counted until I saw his car roll in. There he was. Handsome in his black suit. His caramel eyes shining in the sunlight. His smile just as I remember. “Ed!” I ran to him the moment he stepped out, throwing my arms around him in the tightest hug I could manage. “Wow, Ella.” He laughed, his voice like home. “Are you trying to suffocate me? I thought you loved me.” “Don't… don't ruin the moment.” I held him tighter. He hugg
