Getting used to my new life was as easy as eating cake. I was still waiting for bullies to bully me but unlike the other time, I knew I had someone to protect me, watch over me. For the first three weeks I spent with her, she took me shopping for new clothes outside my comfort zone, took me to a spa where I was taken good care of, dragged me to a salon to treat my hair and showed me around town. She taught me what to say and do at each place I went to, how to act and what expression to wear and above all, she was teaching me some basic self-defence moves.
The city is strange, I must admit that. She went out a few times and was back in a hurry, and said she didn't want her present to be known yet so she would have more time for me. On that day, she powdered me up and I must confess, I looked like a silicone barbie doll, just the right amount of perfect. My black hair amazingly stopped at the small of my back, how she did it, you tell me! She made sure to give it a glossy impeccable straight smoothening and lift it up into a ponytail; a dutch crown braid ponytail.
My skin was almost spotless, almost I say. She added all those fancy makeup to my face, don't know what but I looked stunning. I never even realised I had a beauty mark at my bottom lip. It glowed like a black ring over my purple lip gloss. I literally know nothing about fashion but I'm sure I can manage to give you a good description of my first day to school outfit; I wore a black body con jumpsuit thingy, a purple leather jacket over it, a purple leather belt and purple leather wedge ankle boots. The jumpsuit had two front pockets, pockets with a purple leather band. She made me wear black earrings, black bangles, a wristwatch and carried a black handbag with a purple zipper.
There, that's the best I can do.
"Remember, don't look down when talking to anyone, look them straight in the eyes no matter how scary they are. If you feel an itch in your mind, a sudden weight, know that someone is trying to gain access into your mind. If that happens, think about a blazing fire filled with wolfsbane because that is the most effective way to kill most supernatural creatures…"
"What are you talking about? Supernatural creatures?"
"Geez, Marinette! You still haven't figured it out after staying here for three weeks! You still haven't picked up on the hints and weird people around!" She shrieked exasperatedly, scaring the shit out of me. I moved to the door that I almost felt like I could enter it. "You need to stop being so dumb and acting like a fucking idiot! I already gave you the rules, follow it or die." She huffed.
What clue?
I pondered on her words until she drove into a magnificent castle, a gray haunted looking castle with a green sky and purple clouds. The ground was blood red and black but that was the least of my problem, the creepy students were everywhere! One was green and holding his head in his hand as he talked to a one eyed girl, a mini cyclops. Some had no legs, some no hands, some were transparent ghosts, some even spiders and mummies!
"Marielle," I whispered, shifting closer to her with a quivering body. "Where are we?"
"Don't shout, you are in Twilight Castle, college for monsters," she replied calmly.
"M…m…m…m…" I looked at her with a much faster beating heart. "Then you are a m…m…m…" She opened her mouth, two shiny pointy fangs sprouted out and glinted. I felt myself losing consciousness.
"Don't faint," she slapped my cheek softly. It was like a switch was flicked on, I started screaming so loud my heart almost escaped from my mouth. She rolled her eyes around, everyone was looking at the car. "Get a hold of yourself, Rinette, and stop screaming, you are embarrassing yourself."
"You're a werewolf!!!" I screamed. She rolled her eyes and folded her arms.
"Vampire actually, and no, not dhampir."
"That is even worse!"
"Why?" She chuckled. "Blood drinking?" She changed from being annoyed to being amused. It was not amusing.
"Yes!"
"Calm down, as strange and unbelievable as it may sound, I don't drink blood."
"Huh…?" I asked puzzledly. All vampires drink blood. That's what makes them a vampire.
"My biological father is one of the high vampire council members, the oldest of all vampires. He went out of the city, wanted to feed and ended up feeding from my mother. Most vampires have libido problems, he wasn't one of them as records shows but he felt a powerful pull towards her, slept with her and it resulted in me. Mum was helpless, a one-night stand with a man she couldn't even remember had led to an unwanted pregnancy. She tried to abort me but I was way too stubborn,"
"Vampires barely get pregnant, pregnancy to them is a miracle, serious one. Of course mum was unaware, her blood was always running out and she had to be put in a hospital and be pumped blood once a week, it was horrible. Scientists were confused on why her blood would dry up without leaking, how I was surviving there. Fortunately for Mum, Dad couldn't get the feeling of returning to her off his mind. According to what he said, he always saw Mum rocking a baby in his dream so he returned to find her. That was how he knew he was having a baby…" she smiled and giggled. "He was so happy, he took mum away and made sure she was well taken care of until I was born." She retracted her fangs and took off her seatbelt. I did the same, eager to hear the complete story. She opened the door, in a flash I was also out of the car.
"How did you do that?"
"Vampire speed," I stepped away from her. "Rinette, do you trust me?"
"I do but…"
"You are scared, I know. I will never do anything to hurt you so trust me, Marinette," I looked at her stretched out hand warily. "Trust me, Marinette." I exhaled and took her hand. She pulled me along, interlocking our arms and shielding me from the staring creatures.
"So, you haven't finished your story." It was a way to distract myself.
"Like I said, he took Mum away, took the responsibility and supported her through her painful pregnancy period."
"The women need to drink a lot of blood, right?"
"Yes, but not as intense as the movies put it. She only needs enough blood during the first three months of her pregnancy, after that, she gets to drink at a specific time."
"But how did your father get her to drink it and why don't you drink blood?"
"How Dad was able to make her drink is something I can't explain or you will faint. As for why I don't drink blood, it will shock you to know that my mother's bloodline isn't completely ordinary. Somewhere along the line of her ancestor, there was an elf with royal blood. None of them took that side, but somehow, I did. I'm an elf of royal lineage and also a vampire with the blood of the oldest vampire running through me."
"You must be really powerful,"
"I like to not think that, but yes. My elf side forbids me from drinking blood,"
"But, blood is what makes your kind vampires,"
"So it seems," she looked away, waving at the people waving at her. I gasped as I thought of something.
"Why am I here? Am I a monster too?" I asked panickingly.
"You are a witch—"
"What!"
"Your mother was the autumn witch and your great, great grandmother, the crone of witches before they died. I suspect you to be a normal witch since a new autumn witch has been chosen but your energy is different, stronger than any I have ever felt. Dad checked you out once and said the same thing. You are a witch of a totally new and powerful breed, one he fears to speak of. He insisted I bring you here to train, maybe then your powers will open." I couldn't believe it, I mean, me? A witch. I just found out vampires exist minutes ago and suddenly I'm a witch? Yeah, right.
"You are kidding me, right?"
"Why do you think you never die, because you are lucky? No, you are not." She said sneeringly. I shook my head with disbelief.
"I am not a witch." I don't laugh evilly, I don't have a broomstick and even if I am ugly, I'm not witch ugly. That's just being cruel to me. I mean, if she thought I as ugly, she could just say it out straight. I'd lived and heard it enough so it won't hurt. She didn't have to make things up to make me feel better. I'm ugly, I get it.
"Let's agree to disagree," she chuckled and waved back at the guy hooting at her. She had a lot of fans as people hailed and saluted at her, a few bowing and many taking handshakes. I watched her as she attended to all of them buoyantly, laughing and speaking raucously. I couldn't wave or speak, I was terrified, they all looked so weird and creepy. She took me to my locker afterwards, helped me with my books and listed so many more rules. "I will be back, don't move." She dashed off.
"Don't leave," I whimpered. I rest my back on my locker, a coffin shaped locker. I hugged my books and focused on calming my heart, this shit is real. Someone dragged a whistle beside me, making me jump away with a scream.
"Easy, kitty, I don't bite," the person laughed. I turned to the person and screamed again. The guy was freaking tall, flaming head and eyes with a scar, like the scar Mufasa's brother had but his was glowing lava. "Hey! Stop screaming!" He shouted. I continued screaming until he clamped his hand over mine, his hot hand! I jumped away from him, fanning my mouth. "Oh, I'm so sorry, didn't mean to… did I burn you?" No, you gave me a fairytale kiss, you idiot. I calmed down and held my heart. "No, sorry I screamed so much, you startled me." He flashed me a toothy grin. Wow, he's gorgeous. "Sorry, I'm Ace." "Marinette," I said, taking his hand. "I will put this away," he grinned, his flames burnt out. His peachy orange skin turned pale white, his eyes bright yellow, like the sun and his weird spiky razor waterfall somewhat like hair turned ginger with a flaming fire edge. The hair almost looked like one of those anime prince's, perfect for his face. Holy perfection, kill me now! My m
Classes were going on fine, if you'll call confusion fine that is. I didn't fully understand a thing but everything was going just fine, well, almost. The teaching methods were similar to humans, only more advanced with a huge touch of magic and freakiness. I had to fight to stay conscious while watching monsters teach, I was surprisingly taking it very well. The good news was that I hadn't encountered any bully, yet. "Hey! Wait up!" Someone shouted. I didn't know it was me so I kept hurrying to get to my next class. "New girl! New girl! Marielle's sister!" I stopped and spun on my heels. A female was running to me. She had long green hair with pink streaks all over. Her hair was too straight to be real but yet it was real. Her hair stopped at her waist with very sharp tips, like thousands of needles. Her eyes were pink, small ultra-pink just like her small lips. She had no makeup on and she was shorter than I was but yet the most beautiful pale green-skinned girl I had ever seen. She
"Where's my sister?" "Other cafeteria," "With the others?" "Mmph mmph," he muffled. "What?" "Mmph mmph…" "Can you not talk with your mouth full?" I snapped. He gulped down what he was eating and licked his lips. My eyes couldn't help but follow the swipe of his tongue. "So, how was life as a human?" "Hell." "Why?" "If you like being an object of ridicule, sexual harassment and public punching bag, then I guess that would be heaven to you." He nodded. I believe his food was more interesting than the ugly girl sitting across from him. Heck, a fly would be more interesting than the terrible one called me. "Hmm, how old are you?" "I'm not having any further conversation with a guy who just pulled out a burger from his briefs, ew." "Yum, yum, yum," he said, chewing nastily. "Haven't you heard of hygiene!" "No, did you make that up?" "Ace," I whined. How can one human being be so disgusting? Well, he's not human per SE but still! He pulled a burger out from his underwear, his
On the second day of school, I was excited; too ecstatic. Elle dressed me up again. My hair was packed up into puffy bunches with cute flowery pink and black hair bands, a pink cold shoulder crop top, black high-waisted stock jeans and Nike sneakers, pink and black to be precise. My handbag was black with pink zippers and a fluffy fur ball dangling at its front side. Elle made my makeup all pink and black; pink blush and eye-shadow, black lipsticks and my eyelashes brushed up with thick mascara. That's the best I can describe. To say the least, I looked like a pretty flamingo. "…I thought I should buy him something nice for our third anniversary but I just don't know what to buy." Elle lamented. She had been lamenting all morning about her third anniversary with Dermot. She had yet to do something nice for him. "What did you get for the past two years?" "First year, a hopeless wristwatch," she sighed sadly, rubbing her arm. "Why do you think it's useless?" "He's the crown prince,
AN HOUR LATER I walked along the empty hallway, I was hurrying to class after getting my chemistry book. I stopped when I felt like someone was watching me. I looked around but saw nothing. I felt uncomfortable and fear was starting to kick in. I could hear footsteps heading towards my direction. I squeaked and ran, I didn't know where I was running to but I knew I had to be around people. "Oomph!" I grunted after colliding with someone. I fell on the floor, an intense sting jolting from my ass. I looked at the person I bumped into and my mouth fell open. Not just because he was scintillating, but because he was covered with yellow thorns and a large wood protruding out of his shoulder. "Ace?" "Oh, hi, Marinette. What is ya doing running so fast?" He asked with a grin. I twinkled my lashes and burst into laughter. He frowned. "Thanks for your concern," he said sarcastically. "I guess the bull meant business," I said between my laughs. "Yeah, but we came to an agreement," he said w
I stirred the soup in my bowl absent-mindedly, I still couldn't get the hallucinating thing out of my head. It felt so real, in fact, it was real. How did I walk outside? Everything was complicated and I was too afraid to tell anyone. Elle was sitting opposite me at the breakfast table, typing away on her phone with a giddy smile. I needed to tell her, I had to tell her. Who else would explain what is going on? "Elle," I called shakily. "Yap?" "Can I ask a question?" "Shoot," "Is hallucination common in Twilight Castle?" "Not at all," she said, chewing the food in her mouth. She paused her fingers and raised her head, raising her brows at me. "Why? Did you hallucinate?" "Yes, a very crazy one and it is scaring me," I said shakily, looking down at my soup. I felt her gaze burning into my head, a very suspicious intense look. "Stop looking at me like that, you are making me uncomfortable," "What did you see?" She asked calmly as she kept her phone aside. I itched my left arm nerv
Where am I? I heard heavy flapping of wings, and thunderous flapping coming from behind me. I turned around, quickly enough to see a large four-winged golden dragon flying towards me and blowing out a breath of fire. But, I was too slow to dodge the flame it blew on me. I screamed as the fire headed to me, blocking my face with my hands, hoping it would protect me. It completely consumed me. The pain was unbearable. I screamed and cried in pain, calling for Elle but no one came. After what seemed like hours, the flame whirled around me, forming a thin fire vine. The vines snaked around my hands and slashed down to my back. I raised my wet face to the dragon who had been watching me. He spread his wings, showing me his large wingspans and flapped them. The wind pushed me, sending me flying out of the realm in a whirling fire portal. I gasped as I woke up, tight in Ace's arms. Elle was crying as she sprayed water on my face. "Rinette, please be okay. Ace, what have you done to my sist
I sat at the school's pool, reading my history textbook. I didn't understand it but I was trying. Not a single soul was at the pool to my delight. I love reading in quiet places. It was just me, my book, and the shimmering dancing water. I was reading about the foundation of Twilight Castle; it was originally the first vampire royal castle before the great vampire queen, Queen Rida Red, who willed it to be a school for every paranormal after her death. The present king, Dermot's father, built a much bigger and better castle to live in, while this one became a school. I should have followed the book, believed what was written but something was missing in the history. Something didn't quite click with me but I couldn't place my finger on it. I dropped the book and sighed, wondering what was missing. Again, the incessant ringing in my ears increased, making my head pound. I massaged my temples, trying to soothe the headache, but nothing was happening. In frustration, I pushed the book in
