As I slumped in bed, I felt as if I were about to pass out. Mom and Dad helped me up and put me to bed. Dad covered me with a blanket while mom held my hand and told me to calm down. She whispered to me to rest and forget about Jeremy. Mom said something to me, but I couldn’t hear it clearly. My head is throbbing, and I can’t focus on anything. I was dying.
“Get some rest, Pumpkin,” Dad said to me.“I-I can’t—”
“Forget about Jeremy. You’re hurting yourself if you keep wanting Jeremy,” Mom said.
I squeezed my bed sheets. I wrinkled my body to cover the pain that spread throughout my body.
“Lilith, are you okay?” Dad came up to me.
Dad checked my body temperature, which was suddenly elevated.
“Do you have a fever?”
“His body temperature raised. I’ll get the suppressant first.”
Mom ran out to get her medicine.
“Hold on, I’m going to call the doctor.”
Dad walked to my nightstand. Dad called someone using the phone in my room. Meanwhile, I keep rolling around in this pain. Mom came back to the room with a bowl of warm water and a strange red liquid.
“Drink this, Lilith.”
“What are you doing, Nicolle? What broth did you give her?” Dad asked.
Mom mumbled, “Shut up, you care little for your daughter, who’s struggling to get used to her own strength!”
“Nicolle, I mean it!”
“Stop it!” I screamed in pain.
Mom made me drink that weird liquid.
“No, mom! The smell is disgusting!” I turned it down.
“Pumpkin, please drink some of this liquid. This broth will cure you for a while before the Doctor arrives.” Mom insisted.
“Please…”
“You’ll get hurt if you’re stubborn like that, Lilith,” Mom got angry.
“Nicolle, stop pushing her. What fluid did you give Lilith, anyway? It’s not a suppressant,” Dad pulled Mom.
“Owen, this is lamb’s blood. It’ll numb the pain of Jeremy’s rejection.
“Are you sure that would reduce the pain she’s experiencing?”
“Yeah, I’m sure. She is a wolf of perfect strength.”
Mom forced me to drink the lamb’s blood. I drank it with compulsion and nausea for a moment.
“Hang in there. That nausea will ease your pain, pumpkin.”
I groaned in pain as a strange feeling tickled me.
“Nicolle? What happened to Lilith? Why did she feel so badly injured?” my dad screamed and panicked.
“The blood was already working on her body. We will wait for her until she is sleepy.”
“Are you nut? Your daughter is in pain like this!” Dad grumbled.
“I’m crazy because I don’t want to lose my daughter, Owen!” Mom replies with the same snaps.
Dad snorted in annoyance. He was holding my body and trying to help me wake up. I couldn’t see anything else as my dad tried to feed me drinking water. I don’t know what happens next. It’s all dark. My body is like floating in space. My pain has gone nowhere.
Am I dead now? Did they kill me? Mom got rid of me?
I gasped as the alarm clock on the nightstand rang. The glass on the nightstand fell as I rolled and fell. I squeezed on the floor to get up, but my legs still hurt.
“Lilith!” Mom screamed.
Mom ran to me. She helped me get back into bed after putting the tray on the table.
“You’re alright?”
“I’m fine, Mom. I just had a bad dream,” I said.
“Are you still dreaming of Jeremy?” Mom asked.
I shake my head.
“Are you sure? Your tears are still visible, pumpkin.”
“God, I... feel low.”
My mom touched my hair. Mom smiled, but it was the worst smile I’ve ever seen. Mom’s lips twitched, then she hugged me.
I’m sorry about her. I shouldn’t be a burden on my family all the time.
“I’m sorry, Mom. You have to be ashamed of me,” I said.
“No. We bear no shame. We bear a great deal of heartache towards Jeremy,” Mom retorted. “It’s not your fault.”
“It happened because of me.”
“Lilith, stop blaming yourself. Jeremy is the guiltiest man between you and Eunice. You don’t deserve Jeremy because you’re a good Beta.”
I looked down in embarrassment. Mom took my hand, kissed it sincerely.
“Listen to me Forget about the things that make your heart hurt. You must start erasing the friendly attitude towards everyone you meet. Be careful,” Mom whispered.
“Mom, I’m sorry...”
“It’s not your fault, pumpkin. It was destiny. But from now on, you have to challenge yourself to be evil to people who have trampled on your pride.”
“We have to repay evil with good, right?” I asked.
“Not anymore. Evil doesn’t have to be repaid with evil. Sometimes we give the same revenge to people who have gone too far.”
“Did Dad attack the Shadowed Moon Pack?” I asked.
“No. We can’t.”
I nodded in understanding. I thought Dad was gonna get back to Jeremy last night. I wrinkled my body. I curled up to my mom.
“Lilith. Do you still love Jeremy?” Mom asked.
“I don’t know. I hope I don’t love him anymore and live a quiet life.”
“You should seek your second chance immediately,” Mom replied.
“Is it that easy?”
Mom stroked my back. “The good moon goddess will never sleep. The Moon Goddess won’t allow her child to experience misery repeatedly.”
“I hope so.”
“Oh, I almost forgot. Claudia made some ginseng chicken broth for you,” Mom said.
Mom picked up the tray. I frowned because I wouldn’t have expected such a selfish Claudia to visit me at the Moonlight Sonata.
“Here she comes?”
“We’re in the Bloody Howled Pack.”
“We’re in the Bloody Howled Pack.”
I’m surprised to find myself in Claudia’s pack, Bloody Howled. Claudia married a war general from Bloody Howled. Bloody Howled is a notorious wolf pack.
“We’ve got a plan, pumpkin.”
“What plan are you making?” I asked Mom.
“Forget that. You need to have breakfast first.”
I enjoyed the soup, but I didn’t eat it for breakfast. Mom gave me another spoonful of soup.
I stared at the spoon and cried. Mom put a spoon and a bowl on the nightstand and hugged me. She asked me why I was crying, and I told her I didn’t want to live anymore. Anything suffocates, and I want to die. Mom patted my head but said nothing.
“Pumpkin, listen to me… I love you. I will always love you. We’re not willing to leave you here. We are trying to find the most suitable place for you and put you in the safest place.”
I looked at her in confusion. I didn’t understand what she was saying.
“Pumpkin, listen to me. Now we’re in the Bloody Howled Pack. Your dad has sent you to the human world. We think it’s the most suitable place for you from now on.”
I gasped and said, “Why did you send me there?”
“It’s for your own good. I’m sorry for that, but this is for the best.”
“You left me? You can’t send me to the human world,” I said.
“No, I didn’t leave you. But that was your dad’s plan. You’ll be safe there. Jeremy won’t look for you there.” Mom mumbled.
“That’s the truth, Pumpkin.” Dad interrupted our conversation and walked towards me.
He looked at me with a serious look.
He said Jeremy Brooks attacked our pack.
I slumped on my pillow. I can’t imagine how much weight I put on them.
“I’m sorry, Dad.”
“Why are you apologising to us?” Dad asked me.
Right now, I’m silent and I look at them with tears in my eyes. I don’t know what to do. I feel so sorry for them. They still protected me, even though I was useless at our package. It makes me feel like I’m going to die.
“I should be the one to apologise, pumpkin. Before the process began, I didn't ask what your decision was. I shouldn't be like that,” Dad lowered his voice.
When I swallowed my saliva, I couldn’t say anything. I’m confused. Right now, I can't think straight. I don’t want to leave them and live alone in the human world. It was a tough decision. I can’t let them face the craziest Alpha without me.
Even though I am the weakest and most useless… they are my parents. They’re my family and my home. I don’t want to leave them.
“We have little time left. Nick and I are taking you to the human world at 2pm. Get ready,” Dad said.
It flooded my eyes with tears. “No, I don’t want to.”
“Please follow my advice. That’s the right way for you, pumpkin.” He turned his gaze to another object.
Mom stood up and walked to the travel bag on the main table in the room. In a hurry, he put some food in preparation in the travel bag.
“Get ready for a while, pumpkin. We will take the secret route.” Dad warned me.
I snorted in disbelief. They prepared to send me to the human world alone. “What am I supposed to do there? I can’t do anything like a human being.”
“Please….”
Mom walked up to me, and she fed me until the soup ran out. After that, he helped me get dressed. And a moment later, Nick called Dad and me.
That day, we walked out of the woods. Mom told me to take care of myself and watch out for strangers. Then she hugged me. Every time I was there, she wished I remembered they loved me, and I would reach out to them.
It hurts to be away from them. They confronted Jeremy alone, and they forced me out of the woods.
“I love you, pumpkin. Be careful.” Between her sobs, she muttered.
“I’ll prove to you I’m not a loser wolf when I get back. I promise you.”
It’s been almost a week since I lived in the human world. I’ve started to get used to the strange hustle and bustle of human life. There was nothing special that I experienced even though I was disguised as a human. Instead, I was treated less favourably because I was considered strange by some of the men who often stopped by the old shop.It was my Dad who suggested that I work there, because it was so close to the house, I was going to live in. I worked at an old coffee shop that was quite famous there. They had three employees here, Dean, Jenna and one other person who never worked her shift. My boss put me on the employee list because that girl never came to work, I think. I let out a long sigh and put my backpack into the locker.“Are you a psychopath or something?”“What?”“You wear a red-coloured suit every day. Don’t you get tired of that colour?” Jena judged me.I closed my locker and quickly went to face her. “I forgot to dry my other shirt.”“The same answer all the time? Y
“Have you never recognised me before?” The mysterious man accepted the towel I gave him while asking me a question. I frowned and shook my head. “No.” “Nick completely forgot that important thing. I thought he would tell you everything about me.” he took a deep breath. I raised my brow. “Did you mention Nick’s name? Do you know my brother Nick? How do you know him?”The man grinned and showed his rows of white, neat teeth. He let out a long sigh and draped the towel around his neck. “Of course, Nick and I have known each other for quite some time,” he said. I tried to hide my surprise by averting my eyes and biting my lower lip. I wasn’t sure that Nick had ever introduced this strange guy to me. Nick never told me who his werewolf sidekicks were from other packs. Nick simply recounted how much he was intrigued by a notorious pack from the southern jungle. Nick was infatuated with how much power the ruthless pack had, but during the time he shared his interest Nick never told anyo
My mind slammed when he kept referring to me as ‘someone special’ and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I thought Tyler was a strange man. After we finished our breakfast, he took me for a tour of the city. Even though I had to leave my flat, because my boss kept calling me. Tyler Watson forced me to skip work. I refused his invitation several times but, in the end, I lost the argument with him. I followed Tyler around the city after sending a message to my boss and I lied that I had a high fever because of the rain last night.I felt a little awkward when Tyler took me for a walk around the city that morning. In fact, the more time I spent with Tyler, the more I sensed something strange in my nose. I could inhale a strange masculine scent that was stronger than Jeremy Brooks’. The scent I inhaled this time was thicker and more distinctive like blackberry fruit and bay leaves occasionally it smells like fresh grapes.I wondered to myself, what scent am I inhaling now? Do I still
The fact that Tyler was clearly insane for claiming to be Mate didn’t throw me off right away. As an Alpha, Tyler has the courage to say exactly how he feels. Nick came to see me a couple of days later and brought a bunch of food with him. When I boiled him some tea, he left to go out with Valentin. The last time I checked, they were simply chit-chatting about trivial matters, so I have no idea what they’ll be talking about today. When the tea is ready, the teapot will make a hissing sound. When I took a couple porcelain cups down from the shelf, there was a rattling sound that could be heard. My nostrils flared as I took in the intoxicating scent of the tea, and I couldn’t help but smile. I couldn’t help but give a small smile of satisfaction at my successful concentration.I lifted the tray onto the table along with the porcelain teapot and placed them both there. When I finished arranging the food on the table, I proceeded to call them. As I neared the entrance, I caught a glimpse
“What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?” Tyler rubbed his face roughly.I shook my head for a moment, then took a sip of my coffee which started to get cold. You’ve been looking glum ever since I asked you what you meant earlier.”“I don’t feel that way.”I became more awkward than before. The conversation between us formed into a stiff and awkward one. I worried if Tyler knew the worst secret that I wanted to hide deeply. Tyler looked at me in a suspicious glances, I couldn’t hold it. I stretched my legs and stood up.“The park is getting crowded, are you going to sit here until the sun goes up?” I asked.Tyler cringed. “I have no problem doing it with you, Lilith.”“I’m afraid I’m won’t to do that with you.” I tried so hard not to let my heartbeat ruin the atmosphere when I said that.
“I’m all right. Just a cramp.”“Really?” Tyler helped me up, he handed me a glass of water.“I’m sorry, did I misunderstand you?”I was silent as I listened to his statement. With his attention elsewhere, Tyler looked at me with an inexplicable look. Tyler was suppressing his own anger. When the wind blows hard, it makes me cringe. The lightning started to sound, it was very scary. It’s about to rain.“Go take a warm bath. The weather’s not so good.” Tyler told me. The window at the end of the room moved because of the strong wind. Tyler jumped to nail that window with a spatula.“Looks like it’s going to rain all night. Take a shower, Lilith.”I’m still in the dark because there’s something weird inside me right now. An unusual intensity in my body. A burning pain in the liver spreads throughout the body.&

Tyler sighed, lifting one leg to rest casually as his eyes roamed the room. His gaze drifted upward, lingering on the wall clock’s ornate face, its spindly hands slicing through the silence with mechanical precision. For a heartbeat, he cradled his knee, then froze—a statue offering no reply to the conversation we’d left dangling. Without warning, he swerved, wrenching the night’s dialogue into unfamiliar territory.“Can you even imagine the favours you’d earn,” he began, voice low, “if you begged the Moon Goddess’s mercy?”I cocked a brow. “You’re harping on about this again? I’m the one asking questions. What’s so bloody remarkable about suffering? Can I even… dim its grip, or is it just endless?”Tyler spluttered, gaping at me like I’d lost the plot. I ordered him off the bed; he retreated to the sofa without protest, all theatrical sighs and raised brows.Dusk had settled properly now. The night chorus—crickets, rustling creatures—swelled louder, yet the growl of some distant engin
“Come here, kid. Not shy about a bit of fun, am I?” Tyler grinned, mischief flashing in his eyes. “This’ll be a laugh,” Dean chimed in, rolling up his sleeves. “Count me in too!” Keanna blew the whistle with a dramatic flourish, kicking off the Pepero game. Cheers erupted as I awkwardly nibbled the end of my biscuit stick, facing Tyler under the crowd’s eager gaze. Before I could react, Tyler tugged me closer—his focus sharp, as if the room had emptied around us. In one swift move, he devoured his end of the Pepero and pressed a quick, cheeky kiss to my lips. “Blimey! Three seconds in and we’ve got our winners!” Keanna shrieked, bouncing over while I flushed crimson, half tempted to bolt. “Best-matched pair of the night!” she announced, riling up the guests into whoops and claps. Tyler slung an arm around my shoulders, planting another smug peck on my cheek. “True love’s touch, mate. So—what’s our prize?” Dean snorted, rummaging in a black box. “Bet you’re itching for that roman
The following morning, under a cloudless sky that felt almost mocking after the previous day’s ordeal, Tyler ambushed me with a question. “Fancy a trip to the amusement park?”I arched a brow. “Why an amusement park?”“Thought we could use a bit of fun, my dear.” His grin was all mischief, sunlight catching the playful glint in his eyes.“There are better ways to entertain ourselves than queuing for rollercoasters,” I said, stifling a laugh. He bit his lower lip, leaning closer. “Oh? Do enlighten me.”“Don’t.” I rolled my eyes and turned away, though my cheeks betrayed a flicker of warmth.“Come off it—I know what you’re plotting,” he teased, clapping his hands theatrically and waggling his brows.“Psychic now, are we? Could’ve sworn you couldn’t read a room, let alone my mind,” I muttered.“I know what makes you blush.” Tyler grinned, slinging an arm around my shoulders. “If you’re not keen on the amusement park, where do you want to go? We’re not spending this holiday aslee
I drove my elbow hard into his chest, forcing a pained grunt from him. “What sort of lunatic screeches like a goat?”“Darling, no need to be so vicious,” Tyler said, pursing his lips with mock innocence. “I’m sure you’re all sweetness and light for Jeremy.”“This isn’t a joke, Tyler.” My voice hardened. “Kiara Logan saved my life, and I’ve heard nothing about her since. What if Jeremy’s made her suffer for it?”Tyler reached for my hand, his touch deliberate as he lifted it to his lips. The gesture felt like a rebuke, and I shifted uncomfortably, my earlier mockery now hanging heavy between us. His gaze held mine, steady and unreadable. Guilt prickled under my skin.“I am trying to find a way to help her,” he said quietly. “But these things… they take time. There are no easy answers.”“You’d do that for me?” I asked, the words brittle with hope.“I’d pluck the moon from the seventh sky itself if you asked,” Tyler said, his grin sharp and unrepentant. “Promise me you’ll save Kiara Log
“Of course, Mum. What is it you’d like to discuss?” I replied, absently loosening the trainers I’d yet to take off.“Your… situation with Tyler Watson, love.” Her voice dropped to a whisper, then faltered, whether from discomfort or hesitation. She seemed to regret broaching the subject altogether. “Do you truly feel for him, the way you did with Jeremy?”I drew a slow breath before answering. “I’m sure Nick’s already told you things. It’s just… this is all rather sudden. I’m not sure I’m ready.”“What’s troubling you, Lilith?” Her tone softened, threaded with urgency. “The Moon Goddess granted you a second chance. Don’t squander it. Tyler is meant to be your Alpha—I’m certain of it.”“I know, Mum,” I murmured, “but this all feels… rushed. What if Tyler and I do mate someday, and he regrets it? Regrets me? I can’t give him children. And he’s a Lycan—he’ll need an heir.” The words spilled out in a brittle whisper, sharp with the fear I’d buried for months.“Sweetheart, you can’t keep b
“You’re the one acting like a depraved tosser!” Tyler snapped. “I’ll see you in court for harassment, I swear—”Heavy, deliberate footsteps cut through the chaos. Mr. Benedict emerged, his face flushed crimson, jaw clenched. For a heartbeat, I braced for an eruption—but instead, he strode straight to the man and landed a stinging slap across his cheek.“You vile bastard—get out of my shop!” Mr Benedict roared, his voice slicing through the tension. “I won’t tolerate filth like you harassing my staff. Try this again—with any girl here—and I’ll have the police chief himself on your doorstep. That’s no empty threat. My brother is the chief, and he’ll have you in cuffs before you can blink.” The man flinched, exchanged a panicked glance with his cronies, then scrambled out of the café without so much as a muttered apology. As silence settled, Mr Benedict turned to me, his stern expression softening briefly.“I’ll be hiring proper security tomorrow. This won’t happen again.” His gaze shif
Two days had passed since Mum’s cryptic warning about the “unique ability” I was supposedly born with. Yet here I stood, clueless. Shouldn’t I feel it, if such a power thrummed in my veins? For forty-eight hours, I’d scrutinised every stranger, braced for some looming menace—or a revelation. Neither came. Our new home, nestled in an affluent estate, should have been a sanctuary. Tyler had invited me to live there, discreetly covering the cost himself. “You’ll be protected here,” he’d insisted, though he’d offered no explanation for that ominous word. Protection from what? The house, with its vaulted ceilings and sunlit parlours, felt less like a haven and more like a gilded cage. That morning, Tyler and I arrived at work early, pausing first at a bustling local café. He’d splurged on crispy bacon rolls despite his meagre salary—a reckless generosity that nagged at me. Tyler’s finances were a riddle, he burned through cash like a man with a trust fund, yet his job at the coffee shop ba
