He didn’t have a choice. Alpha King Sylvester was the Alpha among Alphas. He was the ruthless beast that even the worst rogues where scared of.
Rumors say that he has never lost a battle, and he bathed in the blood of his enemies after a fight. If you were to be so unfortunate as to ever cross his bad side, then just say your last prayers because King Sylvester would not hesitate to track you down and skin you alive. But that was only for his enemies, and luckily for us, we weren’t his enemy. In fact, King Sylvester was sort of our friend with benefits. The rogue attack that killed my mother was still happening for years after that, so our former Alpha made a deal with Sylvester to protect us from the rogue attacks. Alpha king Sylvester was to use his men to protect his border, and in exchange, we would give him a human tribute every other year. So every other year, Alpha Sylvester came to our pack and picked any woman he wanted for himself. But the problem with that was that when the women went with him, they never ever returned, and no one ever heard from or saw them ever again. There were many rumors as to what happened to those women, some thought that Alpha Sylvester locked the women up in his dungeons as sex slaves, some said he shared the women to his men, others said he just killed the women for fun. But no matter which of the rumors were true, the conclusion was that you were doomed if you were ever to be chosen by Alpha Sylvester as tribute. A few hours later, Derek returned to my prison looking calmer than before, he held a luggage bag in his hand. “Happy birthday sweet heart.” He said as he hurled the bag at me and I recognized it immediately. It was mine. Everything I owned in my step father’s house was inside it. “You touched my stuff?” I hissed at him and he rolled his eyes at me. “Oh please, there was nothing valuable in there, only your raggedy clothes and the trash your dead mother left behind.” I rushed forward and grabbed the bag, hugging it close to my chest. I didn’t care about any of the clothes, I only cared about the few things of my mother that she had left before her death. Derek shot me a condescending smirk as he watched me hug the bag with tears in my eyes. “Aren’t you going to thank me for my kindness? I brought the bag for you so that you can start getting used to the idea that this is your new home.” He announced like he expected me to reward him for his accomplishment.I chose to ignore it and focus on more important matters. “What about Alpha Sylvester? Isn’t he causing problems in the pack right now? You should be there dealing with him like a good Alpha.” I told him.
“Oh don’t worry about that my little pet. Alpha Sylvester isn’t here yet. It was just some of his men coming to inform us that he will be coming by in a few hours to pick up his tribute.” My eyes widened at that. “But he’s one week ahead of schedule.” “I know, it seems he’s eager to get his hands on a new plaything, whoever the unlucky girl might be.” A sudden thought crossed my mind at his words. “What if he picks me as his tribute?” I asked and Derek’s eyes immediately darkened to a very dangerous color. “That will never happen.” He growled. “But what if he—-“ “I said that will never happen! Because he’ll never ever see you to begin with. While we are carrying out the selection process outside, you will be here, locked in your room, waiting for me, your rightful owner to claim you as mine.” He announced with pride. “And besides, why would Alpha King Sylvester ever want a pathetic, useless little Omega like you? He only picks the best of the best women. Powerful women who are special and fit for a king.” He mocked and I glared at him. “So what does that make you then? Since you chose to keep a pathetic, useless little Omega like me, doesn’t that mean you’re also pathetic and useless?” I hissed and Derek grabbed me by the hair and yanked painfully. “Don’t test me Vera, do you think I’m dumb? Do you think I don’t know that you’re trying to provoke me to release you? Well news flash little girl, I will never ever let you go, and if you ever run away from me, I will track you to the end of the world and get you back. You belong to me and only me. Do you understand?!” He yelled and I had to bite back my response. A plan was quickly forming in my head and I didn’t want to spoil it by provoking him too much. I nodded at him in fake submission and he finally let me go with a look of triumph on his face. “Good girl. I have to go and prepare for the king’s arrival now, but when I return, you and I will have a real birthday celebration just for you. I’ll even show you the moves I made in bed that had Amanda screaming till her throat was sore.” He said with a wink and I gagged in disgust. When he left, I finally breathed in a sigh of relief. I needed him to go so I could flesh out my one and only plan.... My plan of escape. My plan was to wait for the selection process to start. Everyone would be in the central square not far from here. All the single women would be lined up for King Sylvester and he would pick one unlucky soul who we would never ever see or hear about again.
Since it was such a huge event, everyone would be there, so no one would be here to stop me from escaping. I knew that Derek would lock me in doors but that’s why I was so grateful that I had my luggage, because it contained pins and needles that I could use to pick the lock. Now that I was alone, I finally started getting ready. By the time Derek would realize I was gone, I would be too far to be caught. ** A few hours later, Alpha Sylvester arrived, and the selection process began. As expected, Derek locked me in the small dog cage, then he locked the doors. After I was sure that the house was empty, I picked the lock of the cage open and slowly snuck downstairs. The central square was at the front of the house so I decided to sneak out the back. My body started shaking with from the nerves, anxiety and adrenaline rush. I was so close to freedom that I could almost taste it. All I needed to do was walk out the back door and run straight into the woods. There was always the danger of being attacked by a rogue in the forest, but anything was better than staying here to be abused and humiliated by the one man I had given my everything to. I twisted the back door open and to my joy, I saw that there was no soul on the road to stop me. I adjusted my bag tightly on my back and immediately took off running, making a beeline for the forest. My heart was pounding but I pushed forward. I was close, so close. I was literally 5 more steps away from the forest when a tall dark figure suddenly appeared in the corner of my eyes. With speed faster than I had ever seen in my entire life, the tall unfamiliar figure made a beeline straight for me. “Oh goddess help me!” I begged as I tried very hard to enter the forest, but the tall, dark figure literally ran into me from the side. He struck me with enough force to throw me on the ground so roughly that I knew I would have multiple injuries. From the my position on the floor, I glared up at the person who had dared to ruin the one opportunity of escape that I had.
The first thing I noticed was that this strange man was very tall and very muscular. It was really a miracle that I didn’t break a few bones from that collision. Then I noticed his very sharp jawline, his beautifully carved face and his full dark hair. And it was then that my eyes finally met his and I felt every single cell in my body light up with an excitement I had never ever felt in my entire life. My eyes zoomed in on only him and the whole world fell away. I didn’t have anymore problems anymore. All I was interested in was the burning desire I had in me to touch him. Suddenly, he opened his beautiful sumptuous mouth and his lips moved. “Mine!” He growled. “My mate.” I couldn’t believe my ears. At first, I felt sweet desire slide down my spine at his words, but then my mind finally processed what he was saying and my eyes widened with horror. I didn’t know this man, and I didn’t want a mate. If he was my mate and he made me stay here, Derek would easily kill him and take me back. And no matter what I had to do, I would never allow Derek take me back. So with that thought In mind, I jumped up, shoved him away and burst out running into the forest. “Wait!” I heard him call me but I didn’t stop. Nothing was going to keep me with Derek. Not even my fated mateThe cold night air clawed at my skin as I bolted through the thick underbrush, my breath ragged, heart pounding. I could feel the pulse of the full moon above, its pull on my body strong, almost unbearable. It whispered to the beast inside me, coaxing it out with each step I took deeper into the dark forest. I stumbled, catching my balance just as a branch snagged my cloak, tearing it. The guards were close. Too close."She’s heading for the woods!" one of them shouted, their voices a harsh echo that rattled my already frayed nerves. The metallic clink of their armor was growing louder, heavy boots crashing through the fallen leaves. I cursed under my breath, pushing myself harder.I couldn’t let them catch me. Not like this—not when I was so close to losing control. I could already feel the shift starting in my bones, an ache that spread through my body, threatening to tear me apart from the inside. The transformation was inevitable, but I had to hold it off. At least until I was far
The convoy of King Sylvester rode through the dusty roads of Los Angeles, creating a scene that sent shivers down the spines of inhabitants of the town. Through the cobbled streets lined with a blend of new and old buildings that snuggled side by side, King Sylvester and his guards showed off the notoriety that instilled fear in the hearts of inhabitants of the city. The convoy was made of twelve battered vehicles. At the rear, was a gray van where I lay within the cage which formed the storage bay of the vehicle. Two guards sat, flanking me on either side, their faces shaded by shadows occasioned by the moonless sky.The consistent hum of the engines from the cars synced with the thrum that sounded in my ears - the impact of the attack that earlier took place in the forest. Smarting from the brutal attack and regularly spat gobs of blood and phlegm onto the road. A tang of blood clung to my temple and my head throbbed with every jolt of the van when it hit a speed bump.A deluge of
I woke up with a start, the faint sound of a howling dogs sent me reeling out of unconsciousness. I couldn't stand up, a throbbing pain evident all over my body. The impact of the beating from the previous night had taken its toll and now my body was nonetheless heavier than a massive tree trunk. The barking of the dogs was becoming too loud. Curiosity piqued, I managed to drag my numb frame from the bed, my shackled wrists and shackles making my movement cumbersome. The chain scrapped the floor with a jarring screech as I slowly moved towards the window. It's dusty pane offered a sweeping view of the Castles massive concourse.Below were a triumvirate of elegant dogs, their leashes, in the firm grasp of a tall, middle -aged woman clad in a dark gossamer gown who stood conversing with one of the Castles personnel. She was stern-faced and she evoked a certain authority which I thought arose from her position in the Castle. She tilted her head towards my direction and I noticed that sh
Flanked by Lorna and a guard, I walked slowly through the immense concourse to the gardens which was situated east of the sprawling castle grounds. The cool morning breeze caressed my skin while the dipping sun cast a golden hue across the plush greenery.Once again I sensed Queen Annalise squinting through the blinds of her window. I ignored her furtive behavior and approached the garden where he was solitarily seated. A polished marble table was positioned in front of him and was adorned with fruits, barbecued fish and meat. Balmy bulbous glasses containing the finest of wine complimented the arrangement atop the tableAs I walked towards the table, a lascivious glint tinged in his eyes. "You are welcome, Vera. Here's a seat for you," he gestured at the empty concrete seat that was on the other side of the table. With a wave of the hand, he dismissed Lorna and the guardI exuded an indifferent face, furious at his calm disposition - a day before, he exhibited the arrogance of a swas
The werewolf emerged from the ruins, its silhouette accentuated by the bright clouds that offered the creature a rich backdrop. It was ready for a fight.King Sylvesters was huddled in the SUV, keenly watching the raging behemoth and his guards engaged in a duel to the death. His guards, a blend of human and werewolves disembarking from the vehicles in a bid to eliminate these wild creatures.Deploying them was premised on a number of reasons. The most important being the maintenance of security across all counties within the North Western Hemisphere.Three of the guards were positioned on the hood of their cars taking shots at the grisly monster. However, this was unpredictable. The shots were only possible once the target was locked and if this was not possible, they remained ineffective till the target was on point.Meanwhile, the beast was wild. it lunged at the men, leashing it's claws at them. The talons ripped the occipital bun of one of the men, producing a copious amount of b
Looming ahead was King Sylvester's castle. Accordingly, the vehicles came to halt before the ornate castle gates, its towering spires creating a sense of awe anytime the castle was approached.Reminiscing on the battle which just took place, I observed that the bloody memory was etched in my mind. The images of the harrowing sight kept replaying in my head like a broken kaleidoscope.King Sylvester got out of the vehicle with the air of an arrogant victor, every move reflecting his disposition as a battle ready fiend. His guards flanked him despite looking weary but vigilant. As we made our way inside the Gothic castle, a tall, blond haired Dante Sims, the head of security, emerged from the arched doorway, his countenance contorted into a frown. He engaged in an exchange with King Sylvester instantly.I conjectured something was off. They muttered a few unintelligible words and I could see Sylvester suddenly exude a look of apprehension. His jawline tightening immediately.Dante accom
I dashed towards the perimeter wall, my legs, in frantic athletic strides, moved as fast as they could carry me. Heaving with each breath, I could feel the chilly night air searing my lungs. The jaunty stone of the castle slowly blurred past me, but the burden of it—or him rather—still weighed down my spirit.Freedom seemed to be beckoning at me with every inch covered. The imposing perimeter fence loomed ahead, sharp iron spikes like the grotesque talons of a hideous beast appeared to be reaching for the sky, imbuing fear in potential escapees like myself. The moonlight accentuated its appearance with malevolent intensity. I had no choice than to scale this wall. This was the last hurdle that had to be surmounted to taste freedom. This area was devoid of the presence of any guards; Slipping out before anyone noticed seemed to be my escape route. But as I got closer to the fence, a petulant growl sliced through the cold airMy feet were rooted to a spot out of fear. My heart skipped
DEREK'S POV:The message emerged just as the first shaft of dawn filtered through the heavy clump of trees, casting a muted glow across the morning skies. I could hardly sleep and had spent most of the night, walking around the cramped room which had become my recluse since Vera had been taken by King Sylvester.A bell tolled in the distance, signaling the gathering of all inhabitants of Callahan county where the old low slung town hall building was located in the heart of the town.A nagging feeling welled up in my gut - another condition that has become prominent with the loss of Vera. The county hall was a dingy monument and a far cry of its historic past - a stark reminder of the nostalgic times in the North - Western Hemisphere. Life used to be easy and less stressful but in recent times the reverse has been the case.Approaching the hall, murmurs from its occupants were unmistakably evident. Whispers of "...Perry Moore's death..." and "...King Sylvester and his goons did it...
VERA'S POV.I was passing through the castle's walk way, in a room in saw Sylvester and uncle Ryan, they seem to be discussing something quite serious. I decided to hide and eavesdrop their conversation. They were talking with their voices barely above a whisper, but the castle was really quite so it wasn't difficult for me to listen. My heart raced as Rayn just delivered a news that would change things. I could sense the urgency from his voice and I felt a pang of anxiety.“There's an urgent meeting in Cadora pack and all the alphas must be present. You'd be two weeks away my king” I eavesdropped as Rayn told my husband. He also handed a piece of paper to him and he read it thoroughly.“We're to leave early tomorrow morning” Rayn continued and Sylvester nodded his head...“I've to be away for two weeks Vera, there's an urgent meeting I have to attend”. Sylvester told me as we lay on our royal bed almost ready to sleep.I didn't say a word because he was the king, it's one of his du
VERA'S POV.“Congratulations ma’am, You're four weeks pregnant with twins” the doctor said, stretching his hand for a handshake.“Ohh, really? Did I hear you say twins doc!” I asked in confusion, shaking his hands.“You heard me right,” the doctor smiled, handing my results to me.“Thank you so much” I said with a smile.….As I stepped out from the hospital, cool breeze refreshed my skin. I felt so delighted owing to the fact I was carrying a set of twins. I imagined how the look on Sylvester's face would be when I break the news to him. I placed my hands on my belly, I'd gone expecting a simple confirmed of pregnancy, I'd thought I was just pregnant with a child, but to my greatest surprise it's not just a child.. but two children! The news was still swirling in my mind, I was indeed so delighted and I concluded I'd spill the beans to Sylvester very soon, but not now though. This revelation turned my world into a fairy tale.As I started my walk home. Each step felt heavy, filled b
VERA'S POV.The morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across our room. I lay there, listening to the distant sounds of the pack stirring. A sense of unease settled in my stomach, a feeling that something was off. It wasn’t long before the heavy footsteps of the pack members echoed through the halls, their urgency palpable. My heart raced as I heard them call for Sylvester.I quickly dressed and made my way to the great hall, where the clan gathered. The air was thick with tension, and I could see the worry etched on the faces of our people. As I entered, I caught sight of my husband, King Sylvester, standing tall and commanding, his presence both reassuring and terrifying. The pack members were breathless, their words tumbling over one another as they reported the sighting of powerful werewolf intruders trying to claim our lands.A chill ran down my spine. The thought of intruders, especially powerful ones, sent waves of fear crashing over me. I had seen the dev
DEREK'S POV.As the weeks went by, Amber and I found ourselves paired up for a project. We were to create a set of matching mugs, and I was both excited and nervous. I could feel the weight of my memories with Vera pressing down on me, but Amber had a lightness that was hard to resist. She would often catch my eye and smile, her enthusiasm infectious. “Come on, Derek! You can’t just press the clay down like that! You have to give it some love!” she teased one afternoon, her laughter ringing out like music. I found myself smiling back, despite the tumult of emotions swirling inside me. “Thanks for the correction, miss tutor” i said, teasing her back. Our pottery sessions turned into something more. After class, Amber would often invite me over to her place, where she’d whip up something delicious in the kitchen. I couldn’t remember the last time someone had cooked for me, and it felt nice to be cared for, even if just a little. “Do you like pasta?” she asked one day, her hands busy
VERA'S POV.---As I stepped into the grand hall of the castle, the air was thick with anticipation. Today, I would meet Uncle Ryan, King Sylvester’s personal adviser. I had heard whispers about him—how he was not only intelligent but also quite handsome. My heart raced as I approached the ornate door, my mind swirling with thoughts about what this encounter would bring. When the door swung open, I was greeted by a warm smile that instantly put me at ease. Uncle Ryan had an aura of kindness that made the vastness of the hall feel cozy. His deep, expressive eyes sparkled with intelligence. As I walked through the marble corridors, the sunlight streamed through the tall windows, casting a warm glow on the ornate decorations. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of belonging here, yet there was still that lingering feeling of being an outsider. I was King Sylvester's Luna, after all, but the weight of that title often felt heavy on my shoulders. I took a deep breath, reminding myself of the
VERA'S POV.As I sit in front of the mirror, the soft glow of the morning sun spills into the room, illuminating the delicate strands of my hair and the sparkle of the jewels adorning my neck and wrists. King Sylvester has outdone himself again. The diamond necklace he gifted me last night is breathtaking, a cascade of light that dances with every movement I make. I can’t help but smile at the thought of his face when he saw my reaction. He loves to spoil me, and I adore him for it.Every day feels like a fairy tale. Breakfast in bed, luxurious spa treatments, and the most exquisite gowns to wear to our evening gatherings. Sylvester’s affection is wrapped in every gift, every gesture. It’s as if he believes that material things can shield me from the world’s troubles. But beneath the surface of this opulence, I feel a growing weight in my chest, a heaviness I can’t quite shake off. I glance at the clock, realizing that I’ve spent too long admiring my reflection. Sylvester will be her
VERA'S POV.“I'm introducing you to my friends and other members of the park today” Sylvester had told me early this morning when I woke up.“Huh” I was confused.Knowing I was a very shy type and I hated congested places.“Don't worry baby, they'll all like you and you'll too” he assured me.Deep down, I was disturbed but I didn't let it show, in other words not to prolong things.“Alright then” I said.I took a shower, washed my greasy hair. Wore a loyal Luna's gown. I looked beautiful in the gown, as I stood on the giant mirror admiring myself. Then Sylvester walked In, he was dressed already. His dress sense was part of the reasons I fell for him, he knows what fits him so much and he always looked stunning in them.“My angel,” he said, smiling at me.“Your beauty radiates, even the sun can't relate” he praised me.“You’ll never stop flattering me”I answered.“Of course not, baby” he replied.…The lights flickered and pulsed around us as we entered the club, the music thumping in
DEREK'S POV.The pottery class was a strange mix of excitement and anxiety for me. I had signed up on a whim, hoping to find a new hobby to distract myself from the memories of Vera. As I shuffled into the studio, the scent of clay and paint filled the air, mingling with the soft chatter of my classmates. That’s when I saw a lady. She was sitting at a wheel, her long hair cascading down her back, and her hazel eyes sparkled with a kind of warmth that instantly drew me in. We were paired for a project, and as we worked together, I couldn't help but notice the similarities between her and Vera. The way she focused on her craft, the laugh that escaped her lips when she made a mistake—it all felt familiar yet refreshing. It was as if I was meeting a new side of something I thought I had lost forever. “What's your name?” I'd asked her.“I'm Amber, what's yours?" she said, smiling at me.“Umm, Derek,” I replied.“Such a nice name” she complimented. And I just smiled. No doubt Amber was a
DEREK'S POV.I stood at the edge of the park, watching the leaves dance in the gentle breeze. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the sun casting warm rays that painted the world in golden hues. Yet, despite the vibrant surroundings, a heaviness settled in my chest. Today was the day I had decided to let go, at least for now.Vera had been on my mind constantly. The way her laughter lit up a room, how her eyes sparkled with mischief, and the warmth of her smile had all woven themselves into the fabric of my thoughts. But I knew I had to step back. Our relationship had become a tangled web of emotions, and I was indeed tired of feeling like a puppet, pulled in different directions by her indecision. “It was time to let her be, to give her the space she needed, even if it felt like tearing a piece of myself away”. I said to myself.“I’ll let her be,” I whispered. The words feel foreign yet liberating. I had spent countless nights contemplating my feelings for her, wondering if I was
