Bella
Aiden keeps his eyes on the road. His jaw clenching and unclenching. He probably had a million questions. And yet, he kept his mouth shut. So much for him hating the silence.
I don’t even know why I wanted him to see the scars. I just felt like he should know. I wanted him to know.
“Your father did that to you?” He mutters after a few miles.
I nod my head.
He pulls the car off to the side, bringing us to a stop.
“Why? Did you do something?”
I stare into his strange grey eyes. I wish I knew what he was thinking. He was just so hard to read.
“My father made me what I am.”
“That includes beating you so much that you are scarred for life?”
I shrug my shoulders at him. It was all I had ever known.
The beatings were to make me stronger. The burns, to help me learn to withstand pain. Everything he did was to make me more resilient. To make me something that he couldn’t be. He had led me to believe it. He convinced me that I wanted it.
Grace lost it when she found out a month ago. It was only then that I started to see my father for who he really was. An arsehole.
Grace had walked into my bathroom without knocking. Her eyes practically bulging out of her head as she caught me trying to put ointment on my back.
“What the hell, Bella?” There was no more hiding it at that point. But it took her hours to convince me it wasn’t normal. She even showed me her back. That’s when I realised my fathers words were nothing but lies.
He had told me time and time again that I was stronger than the other two. That I was better than them. That I had succeeded where they had failed. When it turned out that he was just using me as a punchbag. Telling me it was for my own benefit.
I couldn’t wait until I could get my hands on him!
“You weren’t scared?” Aiden was scowling. Did he not understand why? I had already told him I was a killer.
I shake my head.
“Shit, Bella. I’m surprised he didn’t killed you.”
“He can’t. That’s why I’m alive and my sisters are dead. He is afraid of the monster he created.”
His grey eyes lock onto mine. “You being a monster is the last thing I believe.”
He doesn’t ask any more questions about my scars. It was strange. Almost as if he wasn’t bothered. Or maybe he was, he was just hiding it well.
Aiden stops the car twice on the way. Once to let me use the bathroom. Once so he could fuel up.
As he climbs back in, he throws a bottle of water at me. “Wouldn’t want you to die of thirst on the way.”
I think he was surprised that I was still in the car.
It was another hour or so before we rolled up to a large set of black gates.
It was nothing like my father’s pack. Everything there was open for people to come and go as they pleased. It was a trick of my father’s. He said it means people won’t expect bad things
Two large men move towards the car. I was already preparing myself for an attack as Aiden opened the windows.
“Alpha Aiden. We were wondering when we would see you.” The larger man mutters with a smile. He runs his fingers through his greying beard. “Alpha Colt isn’t in the best of moods.”
“He never is.” Aiden mutters back
“Who’s the girl?” He peers in at me.
“Bella. Don’t worry, she doesn’t have her Wolf yet. She won’t be a problem.”
The larger man calls for the gates to be open. Aiden creeps the car through with a smile on his face.
“You don’t know that I’m not going to be a problem.” I mutter
“Then let’s hope that I can trust that you won’t be a problem.”.
He creeps the car along the gravel drive. Bringing the car to a stop in front of a massive mansion. It was easily three times the size of my home. Ivy crept along the grey stone walls. Some of the windows were massive.
“Never seen a pack house before?” He mutters with a laugh as he gets out of the car
“Not like this.”
A raven haired girl throws the front doors open and comes running down the steps. She jumps into Aiden’s arms, wrapping herself around him.
“Bout time!” She mutters as he lowers her back to her feet. “Dad is losing his shit at Dom. Leighton can’t even reason with him.”
The raven haired girl was about my age, maybe a little older. She had the same strange grey eyes as Aiden.
“Who have you brought with you?” She beams at me through the window.
Aiden steps towards me, opening the door. “Halle, this is Bella. Bella, this is Halle, my sister.”
“Hey” She beams at me. Her smile quickly disappears when I frown at her. She turns her attention to Aiden. “Dad’s in the kitchen.”
She hurries back into the house as Aiden stares at me. “Did you really have to do that?”
“I don’t know who she is.” I mutter, crossing my arms across my chest.
“Halle wouldn’t hurt a fly!”
I shrug my shoulders as his hand latches on to my wrist. Pulling me from the car.
“Where are you taking me?” I demand, pulling my arm back.
“To my father. I have already told you.”
“I can walk. I don’t need you to hold on to me!” I growl.
He raises his hands up, giving in to me. “Just don’t try anything stupid. He will see through it.”
As I trot up the steps. He takes them two at a time, opening the front door for me. I could already hear a deep voice complaining. Muttering about how he had to wait for Aiden and that Aiden would need to learn to be on time.
A woman’s voice responds saying that the man should be giving Aiden a break. It was amusing to hear them talk about Aiden like that. My father would have hit the roof if I was ever late. I had learnt that the hard way and had never made that mistake since.
I feel Aiden’s hand on my lower back as he guides me forward. Pushing his arm away, I frown at him. I was more than capable of knowing how to follow directions.
He doesn’t seem annoyed with my response and just pushes the door open. The man and women stare directly at me before their eyes drift to Aiden. Aiden looked just like the man, except for his eyes.
The man must be the King and the lady looked just like Aiden's sister.
“Aiden!” The lady wraps her arms around him, pulling him in tight against her
“Mum, it’s good to see you too.”
“See, Colt, I told you he would be here.” She turns to look at me. Her eyes run up and down over me. “No Wolf?”
I shake my head. I knew I had to be careful. I was in the company of Royals. Still, how did they know? Usually, people just couldn’t figure it out.
The Queen turns back to the King. “Seems to me that our son was right and Dom was lying. Again.”
“Yes, Lilah. I heard as well.” He rubs his forehead looking at Aiden. “Leighton wants to kill him.”
“And I fully agree.” Aiden mutters
“Then tell Leighton he can.” He brushes by Aiden and heads out the kitchen.
He didn’t even speak to me. He didn’t want to hear anything that I had to say. I look to Aiden. I was confused. I thought the reason he was bringing me here was to confirm what Dom had done.
AidenI watch her as her eyes follow my father. Her brow creases into a frown.“Are you okay?”She nods her head and looks at my mother. “Could I use the bathroom?”“Sure, it’s just down the hall on the left.”I was going to follow her. As much as I was certain she wouldn’t try anything stupid, there was still a chance but my mother grabs hold of me.“She doesn’t know, does she?”“I don’t know what you are talking about.”“You’re her mate, Aiden. She is your mate.”“You don’t know what you are talking about.”“I am your mother. There is only one person that you have looked at like that. And there hasn’t been another one since Ivy. Why haven’t you told her?”“Because she’s not ready.”“You mean you’re not.”Maybe my mum was right. It has taken me years to get over Ivy’s death. She had sacrificed herself for me. Even though it had been years, I still wasn’t ready to accept another mate so easily.“You should tell your father. Before it’s too late.”“What does that mean?”She looks away
Bella“Will you just stop talking!” I snap. I was sick of the questions. Sick of him trying to make me out to be a victim.“I'm trying to help.”“I don’t need help!”“Your father really did a number on you, didn’t he?”He ignores my growling as he approaches me.“What did he tell you? That you couldn’t be friends with others? That everyone was an enemy? Because if you believe that your entire life, your life is going to be pretty shit.”He pulls off his shirt and tosses it into the laundry basket. He was going to hit me, just like my father did.My father did the same thing when he punished me. The shirt would come off and then he would pull the belt from his jeans. The difference was Aiden was not my father.“GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME!” I scream at him. “I am not your punch bag and if you try to touch me, I will claw your eyes out.”His eyes narrow and then widen in confusion, he looks down at his torso. “I’m just changing my shirt.”He pauses to look at me and silently crosses to th
AidenWhy the hell did he have to go and say that?!I glare at Leighton as Bella looks at both of us. Her golden eyes dance between us.“I don’t have a mate.” She mutters with a frown. “And I probably won’t.”“You never know what’s around the corner.” Leighton cocks a brow, a crooked smile appearing.Bella screws her face up. “Thanks for your concern, but even if I was mated. I wouldn’t want the man.”“Leighton, go make sure we have what we need in the truck!” I mumble. Giving him a warning look, daring him to say another word.“As you wish.” He gives me a nod and a smirk as he leaves.“I guess you haven’t told him.” Bella asks as she walks away.“I assumed you wouldn’t want me too, so I only shared the basics with him. But he is my Beta.”“You can tell him that I’m cursed.” She shrugs her shoulders and sits down on the bed like it was no big deal. “You might as well tell him that you have a monster living in your care.”She stares back at me with those golden orbs, like it was some s
BellaI watch from the window as they leave. They drive off without even looking up to see if I’m watching. I knew what they would find. I knew that Aiden would pick up the scents in my old bedroom and he would know that things had been a lot worse than what I had let on. The scarred back was nothing. An hour goes by before I check the door. I was surprised it wasn’t locked. But we had made a deal. I could at least stay here until there was news.Heading back to the window, I pull the chair over and make myself comfortable. Watching the people on the street below. The knock interrupts my thoughts. Halle doesn’t wait for permission to come in. She swans in, her raven hair fanned out over her shoulders.“Are you okay?” She beams at me.“Fine.”“Do you want to grab something to eat?”“No.”“Is that all you ever say? One word answers?”I flash my golden eyes in her direction and don’t say anything.“Geez, I’m just trying to be nice.” She folds her arms across her chest and pouts.Rolling
Trigger warning: Talk of past sexual abuse and suicideAidenI knew what to expect when she had nightmares, but nothing could prepare me for this. She had tried to kill my sister. But it was like she was in some kind of trance, trapped in a dream while she was awake. Why the hell had they been in bed together? If we hadn’t made it back when we did, Halle would likely be dead.Leighton glares at me as I try to reassure Bella. Bella keeps asking me what is wrong with her. It was obvious what it was, it was past trauma, but she wasn’t ready to hear that. Or ready to accept it.“Take Halle downstairs, make sure she is alright.” I snap as Halle rubs her throat and Leighton continues to glare at me.Bella starts pacing as I let go of her. She takes the same steps, back and forth along the carpet. Not quite making eye contact with me as she frowns.“Bella, you need to talk to me!” I demand as I grab her shoulders. She looks into my eyes. “I didn’t know.”“Nightmares?”She slowly bobs her he
BellaMore than forty eight hours had passed since I tried strangling Halle. Aiden didn’t mention it again. We hadn’t talked about my father either. It seemed that my confirmation of what my father had done to me was too much for him to handle. He left in the early morning only to return late evening to lay next to me and sleep. Leighton was put in charge of me instead. He didn’t speak either. He would mostly sit at the laptop, typing or reading. He wouldn’t look at me either. But maybe that was a good thing.I stick to my usual spot by the window and spot Aiden’s vehicle pulling up.“He’s back.” I mutterLeighton doesn’t speak. He closes the laptop and walks out of the room.A few moments later, he is standing outside with Aiden. Deep in conversation. Leighton gets in his van and drives off.Where was he going? Where had Aiden been?Aiden appears. His grey eyes settle on me. I knew he regretted saving me.“Have you eaten?”It was the same routine.I shake my head.“You need to eat!”
Bella“What did you say?” I mutter in disbeliefShe stares with wide grey eyes, “Shit, you didn’t know!”“How am I supposed to know that? I’m seventeen. I don’t even have my Wolf. How do you know that? I’m not even supposed to have a mate.”“Leighton told me.”“Leighton?”“I thought you knew. You spend the whole day and night in his room. It made sense after Leighton told me the news. I thought you guys would be doing stuff.”“You are wrong! I’m a Creedance. We don’t have mates.”She shrugs her shoulders at me and mumbles something about how it was obvious.“Obvious? Is Aiden going around telling everyone that we are mates?”“Noooo. Just Leighton and then Leighton told me because I kept asking questions.”“Why didn’t Aiden say anything to me?”“Because you keep spouting the stuff about being cursed. That you won’t have a mate and all that. How do you think he feels?”“You’re screwing with me, aren’t you? Some kind of game, to try and prevent me from running.”She shakes her head.“Thi
AidenShe rakes her fingers through her copper hair as she climbs the stairs in front of me. Bella was annoyed with me. She lets out growls of frustration trying to put her anger into words. Halle was swearing at me through mind link too.“I wasn’t doing anything wrong!” Bella snaps as she reaches my door.“I don’t want to hear it.”She spins around to glare at me. “Halle pulled me into her room.”“I have already told you once, you need to stay away from my sister.”“She knows I’m sorry for trying to strangle her.” She folds her arms across her chest. Her golden eyes narrow as she glares at me, blocking my bedroom door. “She knows I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. That it was a mistake!”“I don’t care. You stay clear of her. That’s an order.”“You are not my Alpha.” Her eyes are almost slits as she continues to hold her spot in front of the door. “I don’t have to listen to you.”“You’re right. I’m not. So first thing tomorrow, I will drop you off at my parents house. Maybe you will
