Chapter 1

“I’m sorry Xia, but you bought this for yourself.”  A man with brown hair and murderous eyes said before plunging a knife deep into her heart.

A short lady touched the shoulder of the man before urging the man to "Brother Hui, let go! The police might arrive any minute now. I’m sure she will die before they arrive. "

The man, named Hui, looks at Xia before leaving her to bathe in her blood.

The brightness of the room hurts her eyes. She felt hopeless. She lay on the floor as blood rushed out of her body. Her body started going cold. Her cheeks were stained with tears as the pain engulfed her whole body. She opened her eyes tiredly. 

Why did this happen? They are all gone. My baby, my brother, my parents. They’re all gone. Faded out of my life. All of this is my fault. If only I had listened to him. If only I could love him the way he loved me. Her heart grew numb.

"I caused my brother’s death. My parents had disowned me. Why complain? Why did I do that? Why?"

All that was left of her was the guilt of the past.

Before she was completely engulfed by the hands of death, she heard the voice of her husband. She could only regret not loving him enough.

The silence was disrupted by a scream.

"Ah-ha!!" she screamed very loudly. Xia abruptly sat down and panted loudly. She couldn’t control the emotions that threatened to make her free. She could still feel the knife pressing deep into her heart. Tears freely flowed from her eyes. 

The door banged open. Revealing a shirtless man. He has long, dark purple hair, a sharp jaw, emerald eyes, and dark skin. 

Xia looked at him. She saw the man she longed to have in her life. This man is her husband. Ren Liu Wang is a great doctor and owner of first-class hospitals all over the country. The man is ten years her senior. Even though her attitude towards him was not favorable, the man continued to favor her.

"Xi’er, are you okay?" The man said. His voice and look might be emotionless, but Xia could see the concern in his eyes. She had no idea how she had overlooked that aspect of their five-year marriage.

Xia jumped out of bed and ran into the man’s arms. "Liu." She said, crying pitifully in his arms.

Ren Liu felt conflicted. This lady in his arms never showed any emotion other than disdain toward him. She never showed him her vulnerable side. I carried her back to bed. He felt unsure. His wife looked very devastated.

"Tell me what happened?" He asked gently, before caressing her back in a comforting manner.

"Nothing." She closed her eyes and laid her head on his chest so that she could feel the heartbeat of her husband. His heartbeat was a reminder that she was still alive.

Xia doesn’t know what happened. The last thing she remembered was dying from a knife plunged deep into her chest. Her husband arrived too late. He was crying, wanting to save her. He kept on telling her how much he loved her.

"Xia?" Ren Liu asked hesitantly while wrapping his arms around Xia.

Xia shook her head sadly. "I am fine. I just had a bad dream." She could feel her eyes tearing up at the reminder.

"I don’t want to talk about it." 

Ren nodded, not wanting to force the matter. "Do you want some water or food?"

Xia felt exhausted. She wants to rest, but she doesn’t want to be alone. "Liu, can you stay until I fall asleep?" She looked at him expectantly.

OK, I will not leave until you fall asleep. He tucked her into bed. "Rest." 

Xia felt safe. She slowly closes her eyes and sleeps. She felt that with Ren by her side, she would be perfectly safe from any harm.

Ren Liu was taking a long bath since he had a busy day at the hospital. He could feel the dirt in his body. He was about to finish his bath when he heard a scream that would forever haunt him. His beloved screams so loudly. He wrapped a towel around his waist and ran towards Xia’s room. Unexpectedly, he saw his wife looking frantically before running towards him.

He doesn’t know what to do. Who could hurt his tyrannical wife?

"Are you all right?" He asked, despite knowing that she was not alright. After confirming that she had no wounds, Ren could only stay by her side as she fell asleep. He doesn’t know what dream she had, but he was sure that it’s not a pleasant one.

I touched her sleeping face gently. The emotionless face was nowhere to be seen. Instead, his face portrayed a gentle look.

"Xia sleep, my love. I will protect you till the end of time." He vowed firmly before kissing her forehead. He would stay by her side and protect her. He will never allow any harm to come to her as long as she is alive.

Xia was awakened by the sun hitting her face. She could feel the tears falling down her eyes as she remembered what happened last night.

Her heartbeat was fast. Did she go back in time? Is this a rebirth? A second chance to correct all her mistakes? She had lost everything to one scheme. She had never realized that the man she loved would be the one to eliminate her, while the man she had always treated with coldness and indifference was deeply in love with her. 

Taking her phone from the nightstand, she rapidly searched for the date. She wanted to make sure that everything was true. That she is not dreaming. Fortunately, it’s not a dream. The date was everywhere. All the digital clocks on her cell phone, tablet, and smartwatch showed the same. She slapped herself hard in the face.

She felt a burning pain in her cheek. It brought a happy smile to her lips. Everything is real. She could right her wrong. She could be happy. 

A blush appeared on her cheek. She remembered her husband. Ren, in this lifetime, I will love you alone. I will protect our family and forget about those bastard people." She vowed solemnly. Opening her drawer, she took her marriage photo and put it on her nightstand. 

She remembered her husband last night and hurriedly called his name. "Liu! Liu! Liu!" She yelled loudly before the man’s familiar voice sounded.

"Xia, what is wrong?" He asked worriedly. Putting the food tray on the bedside, he shyly put his hand on her forehead. "Thank God your fever is gone. If it didn’t go down, I almost brought you to the hospital.

Xia stared at the man in front of her as memories flashed rapidly in her mind. Her husband looked the same as she remembered. He was still as concerned about her as before. He never stopped caring, despite her treatment of him. "Lieu!" She cried miserably before hugging him tightly.

Looking at the angelic beauty clinging to his body, Ren Liu didn’t dare move a muscle. He felt that one wrong move on his part would alarm her and she would push him away. He felt a little shame to admit that her tears brightened the darkness in her heart. Does crying out to another person mean that she is trusted? 

It’s the first time she showed her fragile self. He wants to savor the moment. He doesn’t know when it will happen again.
