“I’m really glad that you kept pursuing me, even when I continually pushed you away. Honestly, I’m glad we didn't get together when I was 18.” I said. I could see the confusion twinkling in his neon green eyes. I let myself get lost in the chasm that was churning beneath their calm demeanor before replying. “If we had gotten together, I would have left The Academy. If I did that, I never would have known about the hit on you, and I never would have been able to do anything about it. I think you may have been killed, and I would have been helpless.” The sadness in my voice echoed throughout the now empty room, bouncing off the walls and disappearing through the open window to the outside world. “Everything happens for a reason, doll. Even if we don’t understand why.” He purred, moving a piece of my hair behind my ear. “I’ve never believed in fate. I’ve always believed that you control your own fate, but now I'm not so sure.” I said. The neon green of his eyes reminded me of
