Chapter 30: A Call

LISA'S POV

Leo dropped me off, since the wedding wasn't going to take place until my parents knew. As the car door opened, I stepped out onto the driveway, feeling the warm sun on my skin.

The sound of the engine faded into the distance as Leo drove away, leaving me alone in front of my childhood home. I took a deep breath, the scent of freshly cut grass and blooming flowers filling my lungs.

I walked towards the front door, my heels clicking on the pavement. The door creaked as I pushed it open, and I stepped inside, calling out to my parents. "Mom? Dad? I'm home!"

The hallway was dimly lit, the only sound the ticking of the grandfather clock in the corner. I slipped off my shoes and padded across the cool floor, my toes curling over the edge of the rug.

As I entered the kitchen, I was greeted by the warm glow of the afternoon sun streaming through the window. My mom was sitting at the table, a cup of tea in front of her, her eyes fixed on the newspaper. She looked up as I entered,
