Episode 6

"Where have you been?" The elegant Lady interrogated as she kept the magazine on the stool beside her. It was almost 5'o clock in the afternoon, When Adeline got back.

Adeline steps came to a halt, as she turned to meet a pair of angry eyes. "Moth-"

Grace Luther raised her brows sternly cutting her off before she finished the word. Realising her mistake, she faked a cough to cover it up. "Aunty, I went to meet a friend."

"Didn't know you'd stay that long or you didn't know to give me a heads up?" She sounded Mad as she glared at Adeline who stood quite still close to the entrance.

"A friend? That you could not give a call, that you will be coming back late?"

Adeline cringed at her tone, as she retorted. "I am sorry, didn't know I'd stay that long." She muttered her voice growing softer towards tohe end.

Grace somehow managed to calm down before asking, "Are you seeing someone, Adeline? Do you have a boyfriend?"

"What? No.."

Grace Looked at Adeline before stating calmly. "Then, that's great. I wouldn't want you getting pregnant in my house, one of you is already enough. I won't let you tarnish the reputation of this family. If you are going to remain in my house, you must learn to abide by my rules."

Adeline's face flushed with her eyes glistening with anger. A sharp glint flashed in her earthy orbs as she gazed into her mother's form.

For a moment she looked distant and cold.

Another one of me. What does she mean by that? Does she take me, as a burden? Did she see me as such?

Right now, Adeline couldn't understand her emotions. What had she expected? Her mother would not even recognize her and was always so indifferent towards her. What did she expect? Some motherly affection?

She stood quietly for a while and the indescribable glint in her eyes disappeared in a second. Soon, with a calm look on her face, she looked at the Woman seated on the couch. "I'm sorry, I'll pay more attention not to be an embarrassment or bring shame to your family."

Yes, this was not her home. She just had to finish her studies, get a job and stand on her own.

She left as soon as she said this, walking to her room, her personal space.

Mrs Doris stood by the kitchen entrance with a worried expression. She watched as Adeline made way to her room but it did nothing to disperse the tensed atmosphere. She looked at her Mistress and sighed.

Although, She hasn't known Adeline for a long time. Mrs Doris has come to love her as a person. The girl was straight forward and sincere. She just needs love.

Adeline went to her room like nothing happened at all, but deep within, she was very hurt. Though, She tried not to show it. Since she came here, the only person that has treated her like family is Mr Rex Luther and her small brother too, who would always greet her with a smile. Apart from Alicia, who didn't talk much, pretty much like the rest of the maids. Mrs Doris was one person that has been nice to her but the woman who birthed her saw her as a burden.

She had a mission and that is to finish college and become very much independent. She didn't want to rely too much on her mother or get too attached to the Luther's family.

"Hey, Adeline. So.. how did you know my cousin?" Caleb called out jugging to meet up with her. It so happens that the bell rings for their P.E. Class, as they walked into the basketball court after changing into their sportwears.

Unlike the other girls who wore shorts and crop top.

Adeline wore a pair of black colored track pants and a green sports-top, her hair was weaved into two braids; one at each side.

She raised her hand to brush a strand of hair off her face and behind her ear. Her overall look was lovely, with her expressionless face, she looked like a cold goddess and that made her appear cool and elegant.

Her lips were light pink and look juicy from her gloss. Caleb could not resist looking at her severally, his heart skipped a beat, just as her eyes met his, making the tip of his ears red.

It wasn't a secret, the fact that he had a crush on her and wanted her to be his girlfriend was so obvious as he never bothered to hide it. But obviously, Adeline did not feel the same way, yet and took him as a friend. That he was something, he was going to work on.

"I've known her for 3 good years but actually we didn't get to meet until now." Adeline glanced at him before warming up, she bends over and stretches ignoring the blatant stares on her body. Fucking horny teenagers, it's not a bad thing to be horny but, come on? There is always a limit to something. She calmly refrain from her thoughts and rolling her eyes out as the Coach walked in.

"Alright, guys. The usual, which team will be playing first? The Ladies or the guys?" The whole place echo with voices as whistles and chants were heard. The team of boys moved to the other side of the court as they flaunt their muscular frames and packs looking all sexy and that got the girls screaming histerycally.

The coach cleared his throat drawing back the attention to himself as he blew the whistle. "Come on boys, Show them what you got! The girls stand back and cheer for your team."

The boys were divided into two teams; A and B. The same goes for the girls who had already chosen which side to stand.

And then the whistle sounded. The match started with each side on tie, minutes later team A, started scoring and had 20 points more than team B.

Adeline could not help but cheer for Caleb who played for team B. Seriously, his team was lagging behind team A and it seems he was the only person skillful enough in his team.

"Come on! Go for it, Cal."

Adeline cried out enthusiastically with a smile on her face as she saw him running and skillfully aimed the ball to the basket, scoring a few goals. He succeeded in scoring 15 points for the team. "You can do it! Caleb! Caleb!!" Adeline joined the girls from team B, that were chanting, Caleb vigorously.

Adeline noticed some girls standing at a corner around her Sister and felt uneasy for some reason. As if knowing she was stared at, Madeline's gaze collided with hers as she looked over with a smirk.

Very soon, it was the girls turn. Adeline picked team B, in her team were a few familiar faces. She recognized Gracie, the Class rep. She was the captain of their team. She was tall and agile, while Madeleine's group played for team A.

Adeline passed a bottle of water to Caleb and ran to her team, as they stood in position.

"Start!" The whistle once again sounded as the coach cried out.

The match started.

Her team was leading, scoring 12 points in a row. The ball was passed and soon reached Adeline, she was about to make a throw when a body collided with her, making her lose her balance and the ball fall from her grasp. Adeline narrowed her eyes at that and confirmed her suspicion.

Her lips tilted to the left in a smirk. She balanced herself, stopping the fall and chased after the ball. Turning around, she caught the ball and ran back to the opposing basket, with the corner of her eyes, she saw Madeline trying to trip her. She twirl around dribbling them, leaving them exhausted she aim for the basket.

"Goal!"

Adeline jumped with a smile on her face as her team mates cheered for her. The people on the sidelines could not resist cheering for them. The match came to an end as team B scored higher than team A with the combined scores.

"Damn, Adeline how did you manage that? I did not know you could dribble like that."

Adeline chuckled and shakes her head, "There's a lot, that you do not know about me." Adeline smiled looking at Caleb's astonished face as the made their way to the changing room. Adeline entered the lady's room for a bath and changed her clothes. She didn't wait for Caleb as she joined Gracie to their last class for the day.

"Have you ever considered playing for NBA program?"Gracie asked as they walked to class.

"Nah... Never thought of that, just learnt the skill for fun."

Gracie chuckled at the reply, "Really? That makes the two of us." And they started laughing.

"I like you, Adeline. You are nice to talk to." Adeline grinned at Gracie as she calmly chuckles.
