Fiona’s POV.
The Four Alphas.
The very thought of them never failed to bring a shiver of fear down my spine. Despite what people thought, I knew them intimately —had grown up with them in fact. But no one needed to know that, and no good would come out of people knowing. If anything, the bullying will be worse. I had no one to turn to, I was an omega after all.
Jin, was the Luna’s son and only heir and was treated like a god. He along with the other three alphas who came from powerful alpha families with their influence stretching to every sector you could think of. And powerful people comes equally powerful friends.
Jin and his friends had always bullied me ever since we were children. It began with taunting and pulling my hair when I wasn’t looking. As we grew older the little taunting and childish pranks grew darker.
One of the memories forever painted in my mind happened one particular day when we were in middle school. They had me cornered – all four of them at the school playground. There was something about their stance, their squared shoulders, the creepy smirks on their faces that radiates a predatory dominance and cruel intentions. They’ve done this so many times before—it was almost a routine. A dance we all knew the steps to. But this time, it was different.
Jin stood just a few inches closer to me than the others, his arms folded across his chest as he looks down at me with a self-satisfied grin. His voice dripping with mockery and a sneer tugged at his lips. “What’s wrong, little omega? Scared?” He pokes my shoulder, shoving me just enough to make me stumble. “Aren’t you supposed to be the ‘good little girl’ of this school?”
One of his friends, a stocky, boisterous alpha Lyn with a loud laugh, nudges Jin and grins.
“She’d probably run crying to her parents if she wasn’t so scared.” Lyn snorted, a cruel glint entered his eyes.
“We’re going to play a game, little omega.” Jin said with a deceptively soft voice, his face calm and unassuming as he whipped out a Swiss knife from his pocket. “It’s called ‘Skinning the Rabbit’. I’ve always been curious about it, you know?”
My heart stuttered at the sight of the knife he held. “Please, Jin don’t do this. You can’t! I won’t let you!” I screamed, struggling at the hands of his friends pinning me to the wall.
He let out a mocking laugh before glancing to Lyn with a nod.
Without a second thought, Lyn backhanded me heavily, leaving me reeling from the impact and shock.
Jin inched closer, his fingers caressed the reddened skin on my cheek, his eyes gentle, his voice soft. “Oh, but you will. You’re powerless against us. You can’t take all four of us at once now, can you?” He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a low whisper for my ears only. “Don’t think you’re ever gonna be like us. No matter what you do, you’re just weak.”
“Jin, please I’m begging you, don’t do this. Please…” I sobbed, hating myself for the powerless tears streaming down my cheeks.
“Oh… sweet Fiona. There’s no need for the tears.. We’re just playing here. We’re friends, aren’t we?” he cooed. “I would never hurt a friend.”
I wanted to ask why he still held a knife of his words were true, but I didn’t. Fear wouldn’t let me speak. I could only frantically nod. Anything to let him release me.
I saw his intent too late.
I only saw a flash of steel and for a wild moment, I thought he would go ahead with his threat. Blinking my eyes open, I stared at Jin in surprise expecting to see blood. But it was worse. My pigtails laid lifelessly at my feet. “No… No!” I fought hard against the hand holding me still, rage blinding me into forgetting my position. I wanted nothing more than to claw his eyes out.
“Let’s go, guys. She’s not worth our time.” Jin said, tucking the knife back in his pocket. Their cruel laughter echoed my ears as they left me in a crumpled heap.
My parents had me transferred to another school after that and I never saw Jin and his friends again. Everything was swept under the carpet. The four alphas literally had the school wrapped around their fingers.
I didn’t hear anything about Jin and life was pretty much normal. Until it happened and I lost it all.
My parents and I went on a shopping trip for my birthday one fateful day. The market was lively, filled with laughter and vibrant voices as shoppers haggled and vendors called out their wares.
My parents were admiring the bouquets of flowers, their fingers brushing together as they shared a private smile. Suddenly, a loud, shrill voice sliced through the air.
“Oh, it’s you,” sneered Gamma Olia, her eyes sharp and disapproving as they settled on them. “Didn’t think the likes of you would dare show your faces here again.”
My father bristled, but kept his tone even. “We don’t want any trouble, Olia. We’re just here to shop, same as you.”
Gamma Olia’s face twisted with contempt, her lip curling. “Trouble? I didn’t bring trouble here. You did. People like you think you can do what you please, don’t you?”
Clutching my fingers tightly, my mother stepped in gently, placing a hand on her husband’s arm, trying to defuse the situation. “Please, Olia, we’ve done nothing to you. We’re just here to shop for our little girl’s big day. Just let us be.”
“Let you be?” Olia’s voice rose, drawing the attention of those around them. “You people poison everything you touch. Your very presence taints this market, this town. Our town! We’ve known no piece ever since you’ve moved here.”
Anger flared in the my father’s eyes as he struggled to keep his voice calm. “Olia, this is our home, too. We’ve done nothing to deserve this.”
The tension was palpable now, bystanders watching with wary, curious eyes. But Olia only laughed, a cold, bitter sound.
“Nothing?” She took a step closer, her voice venomous, a dangerous glint in her eye. “You think you’re innocent? You’re no better than thieves, taking from people who deserve more.”
My mother took her husband’s hand, her voice shaking with a plea. “Please, Olia, can we just—”
But Olia cut her off, raising her hand in a violent, dismissive gesture. “Enough! You think you can walk around here like you’re one of us? That you belong?” Her voice dripped with disdain as her hands balled into fists. She moved closer, shoving my father. “You don’t belong here. You never did.”
The shove threw him off balance, and when he tried to stand his ground, she struck him hard across the face. Gasps rippled through the crowd, but no one moved to help.
“Olia!” My mother’s voice screamed as she reached out to her husband. “Stop, please, this is going too far!”
But Olia’s rage was like a fire that couldn’t be smothered. She swung again, her fists colliding with flesh, each blow filled with her resentment and fury. I watched my father stagger, blood beginning to trickle from his lips.
My mother tried to intervene, grabbing at Olia’s arm, pleading. “Stop this! Please, no more! We don’t deserve This! Somebody please help us! Please!”
Olia turned on her with a sneer. “You deserve everything that’s coming.” With a final, brutal push, she threw the my mother down. Unfortunately the fight had happened near the railings of the fourth floor of the shopping complex and Gamma Olia had the bright idea to toss my father over like a bag of potatoes.
I stood rooted to the floor in shock as the sickening thud of my father’s body dropping to the floor. My mother’s screams were like a distant echo to my ears, coupled with the screams and horrified gasps of the onlookers!
I watched as my mother flung herself at Gamma Olia in a fit of rage and anger, fighting as tears streamed down her cheeks. But she was weak. The moment Gamma Olia saw an opening, she snapped my mother’s neck without blinking.
I heard screaming and gut wrenching wailing which I later realized belonging to me as I pushed away from the crowd sheltering me from seeing my mother’s corpse. A hand shot out and grabbed me before I could get to the front.
“No! No, my mom—” I sobbed.
“Hush now.” The soft voice belonging to a woman warned. “Or you will be next.”
“But my parents. I don’t have anyone.”
“You do. If you come with me. Your life won’t get any easier from here, love. I need you to trust me.” She said, shaking me to emphasize her point.
“ Where will I go?”
A soft, sad smile appeared on her face as she gently brushed my bangs away from my eyes and my wet face.” You can come live with me. Would you like that? I have a son your age. You can become friends if you like.”
I should have said no. I should have rejected that offer which was too good to be true. But fear and heartbreak made me say ‘yes’. I had later found out that the woman who saved me was a Luna of a powerful clan, who also was the mother to the one who made me suffer the most.
Jin.
I didn’t know hell on earth existed, until I arrived their home. It was there that my true suffering and my nightmare of a life began.
“Are you there? Why aren’t you talking?...” Luna’s impatient voice called, snapping me back to my senses.
“Yes, I’m here. I’m so sorry. I’ll be back home soon.” I reply, ending the call. Taking a look at my bloodied clothes and my legs swollen from the beatings I received earlier and sighed wearily before limping to the bus stand.
I had barely opened the door of the living room where I was told the Luna was, when a heavy glass cup collided with my head before exploding.
“I called you so many times today, why didn’t you answer? Don’t you know there are many guests at home?!” Luna’s shrill voice rang.
My fingers mechanically touch the wetness on my forehead before bringing it to my line of vision. Blood.
Of course.
Holstering my backpack higher, I knelt down to collect the shattered glass — it was a pretty cup — while apologizing for everything and nothing. She didn’t even ask about my battered state or the bruises showing underneath the heavy makeup.
No. But she continued to curse. I’ve always found it hard to connect the woman who saved me to the monster seating before me. They were like two sides of a coin — different faces but a coin nonetheless.
“That’s enough, mom.” A magnetic dark voice spoke behind the closed doors of the living room which was opened from the inside by two servants to admit the intruder. My heart stopped and my body trembled in fear and shock as the voice belonging only to Jin teased my senses.
Fuck, what do I do now?
Turning rigidly away from the Luna, I moved towards the direction of footfalls and bowed in greeting. A frown appeared between my brows at the sight of four pairs of polished shoes and then I looked up with widened eyes and bated breath to see them.
The four Alphas stood by the door, staring at me with open fixation.
Fiona’s POV.Fear.That was the only thing rooting me to the floor like heavy thorns wrapped around my ankles.Fear lacerated my heart and left my body trembling at the weight of their collective gazes. The nightmare memories I’ve tried hard to suppress all my life struggled to surface. My lungs worked for air and found nothing. The air suddenly seemed thin and the heavy pounding of my heart reached my eyes, threatening to explode. The urge to vomit so potent, it took iron clad will to maintain my composure. The terrors of my childhood once again occupied my mind; my brain picked one out of the thousands plaguing me and latched on it. Where the four of them had locked me in a dark room in the servants quarters — a broom closet — for the whole night, leaving me with snakes and hungry fat mice. I nearly died that night. My screams had awoke the servants and they rescued me and treated my wounds. I still had the physical and mental scars to prove that that night wasn’t a dream. Wasn’t a
Fiona’s POV.I didn’t know where I was running to. My feet felt light and heavy under me at the same time, heart pounded loudly over the harsh pants leaving my lips as my lungs worked for air.Fuck.“Hello, Fiona.”I shuddered heavily at the flashback. How did he find me out? How did they find me out? I covered my face. Anxiety and panic had my vision spinning as I fled, turning at the next corner which Led me to the rows of bathroom. I ran into one and slammed it under lock and key before scanning the room for people. Luckily it was empty.Had I stayed just a little bit longer, I would have fainted on the spot. Overwhelmed wasn’t enough to explain the numerous emotions I felt at that moment. My wobbly legs took me one to the many pristine rows of ceramic sink with golden faucets and I gripped the one closest to me with shaky hands as I turned on the faucet, watching water rushing unforced and free in a stead unbroken flow. I wish my life was like this. Free. Unshackled. My gaze shift
Fiona’s POV.Stunned.I was stunned and shocked at the same time. Of all the ways I could imagine this night going south, this wasn’t one of them. I just stayed rooted on the spot, staring at the four alphas in dumbfounded amazement.“Are they speaking up for me?” I thought mentally. The party fell into hushed silence as the drama unfolded. I saw Helena and her group pale at the unexpected sight of the four alphas. Helena looked pale, gulping instinctively as Jin and the remaining three drew closer but her main focus was on Jon watching her with cool, blank eyes.“I asked you a question, Fiona.” He said again with a deceptively soft voice, his face was anything but. His dark eyes had a hard glint in them. He turned those dark eyes to me in question and I resisted the urge to flinch under his intense stare. That and the anxiety crippling me at the nearness of the four alphas surrounding.I said the only thing that came to mind at best, “I’m sorry.”A slight frown appeared between his b
Fiona’s POVNo matter how much I thought about this, it made no sense. He had a motive, that alone was certain. If not why would he act any different. I was a nobody yet here I was sitting in Jin’s room while he dressed my wounds with such care that left me feeling wary and highly uneasy. The sensation of his hand wrapped around my injured wrist had me flinching at the barest sensation of our hands touching. And it was not in a good way.“Hold still!” he ordered, tightening his grip around my wrist for good measure and my panic tripled.“What if he lied to you and this was just an excuse to get you under him?” A twisted voice in my mind whispered. “You’d scream and no one would hear you.”Instinctively, I tightened my grip on the knife, my palm suddenly felt clammy.“I can basically hear your thoughts, Fiona.” Jin spoke, meeting my gaze squarely. “I gave you my word that nothing will happen to you.”“And I told you that your word means nothing.” I replied smartly, resisting the shudde
Fiona’s POV“Oh, shut up! I thought I told you to leave already.” Jin reprimanded idly, wrapping the ends of the gauze in a bow before wrapping his hand around mine, holding me captive.Lyn looked positively red with rage, his body tensed for a fight. He was about leaping for Jin’s throat when Soren and Kai held him back roughly by the shoulders, forcing him in place. “Don’t do anything you’ll regret later.” Soren whispered fiercely into Lyn’s ear as they struggled. “Come on, let get some air.” He said, successfully dragging Lyn out of the room while Kai closed the door quietly behind him. I heard Lyn’s disgruntled argument as they walked away and Soren and Kai’s muted voices, catching the words, “mate” and “Fiona”My name… I raked my brain for memories of the four of them fighting and was shocked to find there was none. They rarely fought and seemed to agree with each other on everything. So why now?“Thanks.” I whispered, rubbing idly at my sore wrist, lost in thought. Anything
Fiona’s POVThe party was over. Finally. My body ached in places I wasn’t aware was capable of getting sore but it was nothing a hot shower and a good night’s sleep couldn’t fix. I saw Gemma trying to stifle a yawn from the corner of my eye and I snickered at the sight. Like me, she was equally exhausted and her eyes looked sunken and bleary and I knew she’d trade her life’s possessions for her bed in a heartbeat if offered.“You look like shit.” I commented as she drew near, carrying a tubful of empty plates and cutleries.Gemma shrugged tiredly but chuckled. “You look even way worse. How’s your hand?”I held our the hand in question to inspect Jin’s work. “It’s okay, I guess.”“Parties like this always wear me the fuck out. I’d trade anything for my bed.” Gemma whined. “Then why are you here of you’re only going to be lazy?” I asked, my voice light with impish amusement.Gemma squawked indignantly at my words but she knew it was a joke. “Lazy? You’re the most laziest person I’ve ev
Fiona’s POV“Will, do as I have ordered.” Luna commanded coolly.I felt large reluctant hands close over my shoulders and began pulling me up to my feet. My body felt lifeless like it wasn’t my own. I could slowly feel life draining out of me. I had the mind of asking Will for a knife to end my suffering should he leave me there. I know he’d do it. He cared enough for me too….he had too. There was no telling how I’d be if I ever came out from the Black Room so I might as well kill myself to end my suffering as Jin said. Is this really my end? After all these years of physical and emotional torture. Is this really it? Honestly, I was relieved. My earlier hysterics was gone, replaced with this soothing calmness that was a bit terrifying at first. Finally… “Wait a minute!” Jin called out, rising to his feet; Soren, Lyn and Kai stood up behind him as well. “"Luna, I don't think she should be punished so severely."Will stiffened behind me and I looked up to him in confusion. Why did he
Fiona’s POV.“Oh, fuck no.” I breathed. Without a second thought, I pinched myself again, harder this time and realized with horror that this was not in actual sense, a dream. Mates? I was mates to four men I hated with every fiber of my fiber of my being. Turning dazed eyes to meet Will’s equally stunned ones which he tried so hard to mask under the mask of indifference, “Will?” I croaked. “Is this some kind of joke?” The Luna snapped. Neither of them answered. The silence in the room was to thick, or was it just my imagination? Their collective stares impaled my body from all corners, and I was left to bare the burden of their words. What the fuck did they mean by that? I never gave any signs of liking them so why? Unfortunately being mates was like a matched marriage, you couldn’t choose who you end up with. But four? I couldn’t even stomach the sight of them together. What the hell do I do now? “Jin!” The Luna yelled, drawing the four alphas attention to her in unison. Whate
Fiona’s POV“Have you eaten yet?” Lyn asked. I started at his question then stared the brown packaged meal. I had forgotten about the food for a brief moment, too happy from seeing them. “Uh, no. Not yet. It’s not time for my lunch break yet. But thank you for this. It was very thoughtful of you, Lyn. I appreciate it.”Lyn smiled. “No worries. Happy to help.”Rowan gave another eye roll then slapped a palm over Lyn’s smiley face in a nasty face palm that made me grimace from the sickening sound. “Anyways, we’re are ready to order. I don’t know about him, but I’m starving my brains out!”Lyn successfully peeled Rowan’s fingers one after the other off his face then shot her a filthy look. “Must you always be rude and uncouth every single time?”Rowan blew him an air kiss and flashed him a bright smile. “You know you love me.”Lyn snorted in disgust then turned to me with an exasperated smile. He turned to me, “What do you recommend?” “For you I’ll recommend either the Rack of lamb wit
Fiona’s POV“Here’s the order for table 22.” A pasty faced, aggressive staff said sharply, sliding tray of food steaming hot.I automatically took the tray without thinking, marching out front when a thought flashed my mind. I turned to the aggressive older lady with an apologetic smile. “Could you please point at the table? I’m yet to—” but the rude cow had already walked off before I could finish.I stood the dazed by the lady’s blatant rudeness and disregard and was about loosing my temper when a younger male colleague replied, “It’s middle table by the left. You can’t miss it. You chatted with the customers briefly like you knew each other.”I blushed bashfully, “Ah, yes. Thank you… and no, I don’t know them that well.”He waved cheerily at me with friendly smile then vanished back to the kitchen.I turned away still smiling. The smile died a miserable death when I looked to see Jin watching me intently before tracking his eyes to the friendly waiter from earlier and a shot of fea
Fiona’s POVI felt rooted on the spot. Like thick green weeds had manifested from the floor and slowly yet persistently wrapped and tangled it’s thick roots around my legs, holding me in place and seeping poison into my body through my skin. Why did they have to be here? Why now? What do I do? I couldn’t beg someone to take my shift when it’s just my first day and I had just clocked in. It would be weird, not to mention unprofessional. Jin was the first to notice me. Genuine surprise and shock filtered his face as his eyes locked with mine silently before averting his eyes like I was invisible. Short of the surprise and shock which had vanished from his face, nothing else was there. It was just blank like a marble. Somehow Helena noticed something was off with her lover because she glanced at his blank face then turned to scour the restaurant with a possessive vicious gleam in her eyes which turned into a saccharine smile that was utterly vile on her lips. She whispered something
Fiona’s POVThe incessant beating of the alarm woke me up and I groggily patted around the soft cozy comfort of the bed until found my phone then turned it off before sitting up, yawning so wide my jaw threatened to snap. I took a look at my surroundings with a sleepy frown, waiting for the gears in my brain to get information before it dawned on me.I’m staying at Rowan’s house. Well, in the spare room to be precise which was a hundred times better than staying at Jin’s. Out of sheer exhaustion I had fallen asleep before my head touched the bed. Taking a look at the room I occupied, I noticed that Rowan’s parents were eccentric in nature. The entire room was an entanglement of mix-matched pieces of furniture and décor yet it brought this ambience of a cozy little haven that just made my heart flutter by mere looking at it.Rowan’s parents were incredibly cool and kind and didn’t make me feel unwelcome or left out. Their genuine kindness seemed almost ironical, but it wasn’t. It’s no
Fiona’s POVRowan, Lyn and I set out of Lyn’s car almost at the same time, slamming the doors closed in rapid successions. I heard Rowan release a low appreciative whistle as she stared at the massive mansion that was Jin’s home, The estate was sprawling, surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns that stretched out like a velvet green carpet. Tall wrought-iron gates, adorned with intricate gold filigree, stood as the entrance to the property, guarded by two stone lions that seemed to watch her every move. Beyond the gates, a circular driveway paved with polished cobblestones led to the mansion, where a sparkling fountain with cascading water stood at its center, its marble figures so intricately carved they seemed almost alive.Rowan let out a low appreciative whistle as she stared at the massive mansion that Jin called home. The mansion itself was a masterpiece of modern opulence, a blend of glass, steel, and white marble that gleamed even in the darkness of the evening. Floor-to-cei
Fiona’s POV“What do you mean you won’t be staying at Lyn’s anymore?” Rowan asked, eyes blown wide in shock, her mouth hanging open. “Lyn and I were just talking about when you would be ready to move in.”I speared a bit of salad with a fork and slid it into my mouth and began chewing then shrugged. “I changed my mind.”“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” Rowan muttered with mild disgust and irritation. She spared a glance at Lyn in front of her then shook her head and began muttering under her breath. Lyn seemed to have recovered from his initial shock, watched me intently with a hardened expression. “What made you change your mind last minute? It was Kai, wasn’t it? What did that bastard say to you?”I quietly set down the form I held to look at him squarely in the eye, plastering a thin, cutting smile for good measure. “Well we wouldn’t have been stuck in thus mess if you hadn’t blabbed to Jin’s mother, now would we? If anyone’s to blame, it’s you. I agreed to your suggestion w
Fiona’s POV“Where the hell have you been? I texted you the moment I got to school and you swore you were on your way.” I snapped, glaring daggers at Lyn who had sense enough to look ashamed. “I’m sorry. I got held up. And honestly I was afraid of meeting you face to face. Have you seen your face when you’re angry? It’s fucking scary, man.” He murmured, shifting away from me in a show of fear to prove my point. “Excuse me?!” I spluttered in disbelief. “Are shitting me? Have you seen yourself? If I’m scary, then what does that make you?”Lyn balanced his chin on one hand and put on his best shirt-eating grin. “I’d go for fuckable, charming and ridiculously hot.”“Ew, cringe.” Rowan muttered thickly with disgust. “Narcissistic pig is what you are.” I retorted at the same Rowan said hers. Lyn seemed unbothered by our vivjd6shiw of disgust and shrugged. “What can I say. I’m an acquired taste. It’s not my fault you both are blinded by it.”Rowan and I rolled our eyes so fucking hard it
Fiona’s POVThe white ceiling in the tiny yet cozy space of my room stared balefully at me as we fell into a silent staring contest to see who would win. The ceiling did. With a tired sigh, I flipped to my side and faced the window outside holding back the darkness of the night at bay, and thought of nothing in particular. I couldn’t sleep. The small discreet nocturnal sounds drones on in a remote distance played in tandem to the slow but steady beating of my heart. I couldn’t sleep. My gaze locked on my luggage tucked in a tidy little corner of my room and I flipped to the cool side of my bed, groaning in frustration at the stripped mattress chaffed harshly at my skin. I couldn’t sleep and my insomniac brain kept on drilling sleeplessness into my body, keeping my eyes peeled back and staring into the dark nothingness. It was too late to leave the house by the time I had finished packing my luggage and bawling my eyes out until they were swollen and red from silent tears. I had w
Fiona’s POVThump. Thump. That was the sound of my heart pounding in slow motion. The walls of the room seemed to be closing in on me. I couldn’t breathe. It felt like I was trapped, drowning underwater with a heavy ball chain tethered at my ankles. I was helpless against the onslaught of emotions bombarding me: despair, dread, anger, anxiety, fear and panic—each worse than the last. How could Lyn do this to me? We had a mutual, silent agreement to keep this a secret. What was the essence of exchanging numbers if he was going to notify the Luna afterwards? What the hell was wrong with him? What the fuck I’m I going to do in this situation. Fuck, this was messed up. I messed up thinking I could trust him. I was so angry at myself and at Lyn for putting me in this extremely horrid situation. I couldn’t even bring myself to look at Jin. No, I don’t think I would have bore the emotions I would see there. I couldn’t even look at his mother. I couldn’t stomach the snide sneers and icy s
