Xander Ashton had papers spread across his table but the words were like gibberish to him. His head was clouded with memories of Lunaria, the dark beauty who had seemed to capture his heart.
Everything about her entranced him, from the way she spoke to the small smiles she offered. She was simple and breathtaking. Not like any other women he had met and he was bent on having her. He wanted to get to know her, know her family and if possible have her as his bride. He knew nothing about her apart from the fact that her name was Lunaria, she was gorgeous, she had a large appetite, and loved vanilla ice cream. She also snored softly when she slept and had a habit of touching her nose with the tip of her finger. He was obsessed. His mother had hinted that he take a bride now and she was perfect for him, quiet, calm, and reserved. Beautiful and easy to please. He tried concentrating on the papers again but Lunaria's face came to his mind and he sighed in frustration, leaning against his chair and throwing his head back. Lunaria was his, stubborn and guarded as she was, she would learn to know him and he would make her his bride in a few months. He just had to. He picked up his phone and dialed his assistant. "Hello, Boss." Mark greeted, "What do you need?" "Comb through the whole city and find that girl for me." "Boss, I told you it's a lost cause, we don't even know her surname." "Work with a description, anything. Please find her." "Okay, Boss." Mark promised, "You have a blind date today at 8:00 pm." "Did mum arrange that?" "Yes." "I guess I have to attend then." He shrugged, "I haven't been in the country for over a month and I have attended up to 20 blind dates." Mark chuckled, "Should I prepare your outfits and make the reservations?" "Yes." The call ended and Xander put his phone aside. He tried concentrating on work and this time, he reviewed the proposal that came from the St Clairs. It was a tempting proposal, one that would increase his company's credibility but he had to be careful in dealing with them. He had learned they had a media scandal of recent, something about hiding a daughter of theirs everything has been wiped off the internet due to their influence. He didn't have much time to look into the issue as he was focused on finding his bride so he pushed aside the proposals and made a reminder to look into them later. He went through some other documents and got to his feet, grabbing his coat, he got his phone and exited the office. He had a blind date that he didn't want to attend to prepare for and he hoped to find his Lunaria on the streets again by some miracle. He said a silent prayer for Mark to find her but his hopes were dampened when he received a call hours later and it was the same feedback as always. Still no trace of the girl. Back at home, Lunaria was in Trouble. She had to explain how she had met up with Xander again and managed to get a golden bracelet as a gift from him despite being warned to stay away from him. She had told them the truth of how it happened but as usual, they believed that she was a whore who was throwing herself at him and stopped at nothing but to make her life more miserable than it already was. Sylvana constantly bitched about how Lunaria was taking her husband away and the parents meted punishment out to Lunaria anytime her sister complained. "He would never look at you in that way. You must have done something to him or you offered yourself." Queen Julia had insisted. "I didn't offer myself mum." She swore in tears, "I am telling the truth." "Then why would an eligible bachelor like him settle for a daft like you." Queen Julia maintained her argument as she whipped Lunaria, "I didn't bring you up to be a whore." You never brought me up, Lunaria wanted to say but she bit her lip, "I didn't offer myself to him, I swear it." "Fine then! The doctors are coming to examine you today and we will see if you are still intact!" She threw aside the whip and rushed out of the room, "Get dressed and prepare for their visit." She yelled before slamming the door shut. Lunaria got up and did as she was told, she knew exactly what her mother meant by being examined and she dreaded the affair but hoped that it would prove that she hadn't given herself to Xander or any man. She was ready after a while and went downstairs to wait for the doctors, soon they came and she was dragged into a room and subjected to scrutiny. After the entire terrible ordeal, the doctor pronounced her still innocent but her mother always had something negative to say so she proclaimed that even if she had it now, it would only be a matter of time before she got loose thus she ordered that Lunaria be locked up with arrangements made to ship her out of the country for good. Xander had returned home from yet another failed date and he entered the sitting room to see his mother reclining on a chair, the hope in her eyes vanishing the moment she took the forlorn look on his face. "What happened this time?" His mother, Madam Ashton asked, "You didn't like the colour of her eyeballs?" Xander laughed and took a seat next to his mother, "How are you doing mother?" "Don't ask me incredulous questions and tell me when you will bring home a bride." "Soon Mother." He smiled, "Soon." "How soon? Is it when I am cold and dead?!" Xander laughed and proceeded to tell her about the girl that had his heart and by the end of the talk, his mother seemed to have fallen in love with her. "What do you mean you can't find her?!" She inquired, "You had better bring home my daughter-in-law." "As soon as I find her, I will proceed with the wedding, you have nothing to worry about." "Hurry up kid." His mother laughed, "Hurry up or I will set you up with the St Clair Heiress, she's a looker and has good fortune too." "I only want my Lunaria, mother." "Of course." She patted her sun gently, "But don't forget we are going over to the St Clair's for formalities, it is wrong not to accept an extended invite." "As you wish mother." Xander got up and kissed his mother before going up to his room, the thoughts of Lunaria still heavy on his mind.At the St Clair's mansion, the occupants of the house were agog with excitement and preparations. Queen Julia had just gotten off the phone with Madam Ashton, she had informed them that she and her son would be coming over for lunch and might extend till dinner time.Queen Julia had never been happier, she squealed after she got off the call, called the housekeeper immediately, and began dishing out instructions."Call the chef, a five-course meal should be prepared.""Get our golden utensils.""Darling husband!" She called, "Bring out our best-reserved wine.""Clean everywhere! Everywhere should sparkle.""Get our outfits ready.""Everyone get to work!"These were the instructions heard by the house staff as they ran around the place, hoping to please their madam. She had quite a short temper when things weren't done properly and no one was spared from her anger. After she instructed the maids, she went off to her daughter's room. Lunaria was locked up for three days, and on the third day, the door came crashing down followed by the entrance of two furious parents and a sniveling sister. The same old, same old story of her dragging attention from her sister and causing unnecessary drama followed, the insults as well as beatings followed and then the news was finally dropped. She was leaving the country."What?!" She exclaimed getting up from her position, "Where to?""Anywhere but here!" Her mother spat, "I regret the day I laid with your dead father and bore you! You are going to be away from our lives for good, we will give you enough money and you can leave, isn't that what you always wanted, an escape from us?"Lunaria waited for the excitement of leaving to fill her but it didn't. She didn't trust her parents, what if they were trying to traffick her or sell her off? Sasha had told her numerous stories of girls being sold off as sex slaves and that was nothing she wanted to be a part of.She had no educati
Lunaria let out a gasp, shock flowing through her as she tried to scamper from Zander's hold but he chuckled holding her against him and not letting her go."Are you surprised?" He asked her, "I told you I was going to marry you, didn't I?"Zander noticed that she wasn't the only one who was surprised, the St Clairs before him all wore shocked expressions on their faces and he couldn't tell if the shock was coming from a happy or envious place."Are you sure?" Lunaria asked ignoring her family, "You only just know me and I am a -maid." She noted remembering how her own family had just introduced her, "I don't have anything to offer you.""She's right!" Dominic agreed immediately, "You can let go of her now, we can purchase a late ticket for her to leave.""Oh, Mr Zander." Queen Julia clasped her hands in a silent plea, "You couldn't possibly want to marry a stranger and think of what the media would say, they would tear down the poor girl.""I thought you liked me." Queen Julia screamed for help the moment Sylvana fell towards the ground, her phone falling next to her and sliding across the floor. All occupants of the house rushed to the girl who had fainted.Dominic grabbed his daughter, taking her to the sitting room where she was to be resuscitated, even Lunaria and Xander went after them as well, even though Lunaria knew that her sister hated her, she didn't wish for her to come to harm and worried that she might have hurt herself from the fall. After a while, Sylvana was revived, she sat up immediately, leaning on her mother, her arms went around her and she began to sob."There, there." Queen Julia placed her hand on her back, patting softly, "It is not the end of the world, hmm? Quit your crying and behave yourself." She whispered to her, "We could still find a way to have the upper hand in his situation."Sylvana pulled away from her mother, nodding, and stayed still as her mother gently wiped away the tears on her face, "That's it." Lunaria didn't think that Aaron was harmful. He was cute, smart, and funny. He taught her new stuff as well as Sasha did since she never had access to school and he usually brought books for her to read. And other times, he brought her food and some goodies and In extremely exceptional times, he managed to sneak her out of the house and show her around town. Lunaria heard a slight knock at her door, she paid no attention knowing that it was locked and after a moment, the door was pushed open and she shrieked seeing Aaron let himself in, "What are you doing here?" She wondered how he even snuck in."Who locked you up here?" He frowned fisting his fingers, "No one deserves to live like this, is it Sasha?!""No!" She shook my head walking towards him immediately, "You should leave Aaron, you would get me in trouble."She didn't want him to know what was going on in her house. Sasha had always told her to be mindful of who she confided in as people were dangerou

It all happened in the blink of an eye. One moment Lunaria saw Aaron standing, the next, Xander had him in his clutches, hurling him to the ground and slamming his fists in his face. She stood, her mouth wide agape as she saw the man whom she had slowly developed a crush on beat up her long time friend who had slowly become obsessed with her.She could hear Aaron's grunts of pain, she knew he deserved them but she had begun to feel guilty so she gently called on the man."Mr Xander." She whispered, "That's enough!" Xander got off immediately, sliding Aaron to the side and he got up, clutching his nose and running for his bike, cycling off in the opposite end without being told off and Lunaria had a feeling that she would never have to worry about him again."Are you alright?" Xander whispered stepping closer to her, he wore a smile to ease her seeing that she was scared, "He didn't hurt you, did he?"She shook her head and held closely onto her duffel bag, "Thank you for interfering
As usual, Sylvana had left Lunaria with her stuff for her to get home while she hurried off in her limousine running off to tell her mother what had happened. Lunaria had to find a way to get the numerous shopping bags home and luckily for her, she found some dollar notes on the ground. She looked around and picked them up, hoping the owner wasn't really in need of them before hailing a taxi and going home. The moment she got home and entered with the shopping bags, she was met with a smack on the head, fingers held at her ears twisting and dragging her off to the sitting room where a furious Dominic and a crying Sylvana awaited while Queen Julia made it a goal to box Lunaria's ears before even letting her speak. "Get on your knees, whore!" Queen Julia spat, "I should have killed you the day you were born! From disgracing us to whoring around with your sister's future husband." Future husband?! *"Sasha." The little girl called looking back at the older woman behind her, "Why am I so ugly?""Now calm down child." Sasha shook her head dropping the hairbrush on the bed, "Who said you were ugly?""The beautiful woman who you said is my mother and my sister, Sylvana." Lunaria said rubbing her finger on her nose, "They said I make them lose appetite, do I make you lose appetite, Sasha?""Of course not my darling." She sighed deeply drawing the poor child next to her, "You aren't ugly, you are the most beautiful Eight-year-old I have ever seen.""But I don't see it." Lunaria shook her head, "I see myself every day, I wish I was different.""You are different in your own way my dear." Sasha soothed her head, "You are unique and lovely, you are beautiful, you are a dark beauty."Lunaria smiled at the words, they made her feel better and she hugged the woman back, "Thank you, Sasha.""You are always welcome, my little Lunaria, do you want pancakes for breakfast?""Of course."
