Gabriel
“Still nothing?” I ask as Thomas comes into my office.
He doesn’t say anything and I look up at him. Seeing his grim face tells me what I need to know. I exhale a breath and lean back in my chair.
“How could this happen in a week?” I ask to no one in particular.
“We are working on it, sir.” Thomas answers. “She was there the whole week and then sometime during the night she snuck out.”
I nod my head looking out the big windows. I hear Thomas leave the room silently closing the door behind him. It’s early in the morning, I couldn’t sleep so I have been here since 5 a.m.
There is a knock on the door. “Come in.” I answer.
“Sir, your new secretary is here.” announces Jeanne, my front desk receptionist.
“Great can you show her in please.” I say straightening up some papers.
“RIght away, sir.”
I few minutes later there is a light knock on the door before it opens. I look up and are struck by the most beautiful green eyes. The eyes that have haunt my dreams for the last six years. I notice her eyes widen a little before she collects herself.
“Uh hi I am Shila Gerald. Your new secretary.” She says. My brows furrow together. ‘Shila?’ I push it aside and stand up.
“Hi Ms Gerald.” I extend my hand out. I hear her inhale slightly when she takes my hand. The electricity shots up my arm. I smirk a little to myself. I knew I wasn’t imagining the chemistry.
“You were filled in on your duties?” I ask after releasing her hand, already missing the feel of her hand. I look her over.
Her hair color is lighter, much lighter than it use to be. It only brings out her green eyes even more. Her body filled out. Today she is wearing long loose black slacks with an airy coral color long sleeve button top with a high neck.
“Yes, sir.” She shyly says.
I smile at her. “Great. Let me show you around.” I walk to the door to open it.
We take an hour walking around the floor. I show her where her desk is, the break room, everything that she will need to know to do her job. I let her know about the scheduling system and how I want her to take notes during meetings.
Once I am back in my office I cannot focus on work. Oh my god, my wife is here! But she changed her name. Why did she change her name? What is going on? I need to figure this out.
“Sir?” Katrina, oh I’m sorry Shila, comes through the phone speaker. Her voice sends goosebumps all over my skin.
“Yes, Ms. Gerald?”
“There is a Ms. Gallo here to see you.”
I roll my eyes. Maria never has my secretary let me know she’s here. She is a partner in the firm and doesn’t have to. I know she is just talking to Katrina.
“Yes tell her to come on in.”
Maria waltzes in a moment later with a bright smile on her face. Katrina holding the door for her. “Thank you Ms. Gerald.”
“You’re welcome. Should I get you guys anything?”
“No thank you Ms. Gerald.” I answer before Maria can say anything else. Katrina nods her head and closes the door.
“What the hell Gabe? You didn’t tell anyone she was here. And what is up with the new name?” Maria whisper shouts at me.
I pull her over to my office sofa’s.
“She just got here this morning I showed her around. I’m just as shocked as you are. I haven’t had a moment to call Thomas yet.”
“Well we need to figure this out and soon. You know everyone is going to talk.”
I nod my head. I walk over to my desk and send out a company email to not say anything and act normal until we can figure out what is going on. All my employees are loyal and know what the deal is. Then I text Thomas to come to my office with his computer right away and to not be surprised who is sitting right outside my door.
About 20 minutes later Katrina chimes in on the office phone. “Sir?”
I smile to myself. “Yes, Ms. Gerald?” I answer.
“There is a Mr. Scorcen here to see you.”
“Great let him in.”
She opens the door. Thomas steps through and gives me wide eyes of shock. Then it is gone.
“Can I get you guys anything?” Katrina asks again with a small smile on her face.
“Yes, can you bring us some coffee?” I ask.
“Sure I will be right back.” She quickly closes the door.
“What the hell is going on?” Thomas says.
“That’s what we are going to find out.” I glance at the door. “Something is seriously wrong for her to change her name and her appearance. What is she doing here? How? We need to know everything. You have your computer?” Thomas nods. “Ok let’s get to work the sooner we know what is happening and how we can fix things the better.”
The three of us sit down and forget about the company business for a little while. I need to know what is wrong and how I can get my wife back. Something is wrong and I need to fix things.
Katrina I sit at my desk just focusing on my work. Every once in awhile during the day someone would come to see Mr. Bernardi. There was something going on and I could feel it. I noticed the looks I was getting. They weren’t bad looks or looks of wanting from the guys. It was almost like people were curious about me. I had no idea why. There was something strange about my boss. I felt like I knew him, but I just couldn’t place where from. I was taken aback by his good looks, but it was more than that. I realized I was daydreaming for a moment when I felt the air shift from behind me. The electrical charge I felt from when I shook hands with my boss earlier was flowing through the air. I froze.&nb
Katrina Six years ago…. The bright sun coming in from the large hotel windows, hitting me right in the eyes is what wakes me up. ‘What the hell happened last night?’ I think. ‘Fuck!’ I look under the covers, and sure enough, I am naked. ‘Did I sleep with that guy?’ I look around the room. ‘This isn’t my room.’ This room is HUGE. A lot bigger than the one I booked with my best friend, well my best friend now, Jade. The last thing I remember is being at the hotel’s bar and meeting this gorgeous guy. I couldn’t believe he
Gabriel Six years later…. Sitting at my desk I look out the large windows out over the city of Chicago. I hold our wedding photo. Things are taking a lot longer than I anticipated. It’s been 6 years. I wanted to go and get her, but there was so much I had to do. There is still so much I still have to do. I know she has no idea what happened that night. It was shitty of me to get her so drunk, but she looked like she needed it. When she told me about her ex boyfriend and best friend I was pissed for her. Katrina and I clicked that night and I have not been able to stop thinking about her since. I’ve kept track of her for the last six
Katrina The morning light shining bright through the open window was a harsh wake up call. ‘Shit, I forgot to close the curtains.’ I never forget to close the curtains. The only relief was that I was 4 stories up in this apartment building. I made sure not to not have a fire escape where anyone could get into our apartment either. I know it probably wasn’t the smartest idea, but I just couldn’t have easy access to us. I lay in the bed for a few more minutes looking out my bedroom window at the bright blue sky. Then my two beautiful twins came flying into my room and jumped on my bed. “Mommy!” they screamed in unison.
