Happiness POV

Age 17

“Oh baby, you look stunning." My mom, Daisy, gushed at me.

I scan down my outfit for today's event, and I'm quite satisfied with what I'm wearing. A halter neck styled Tosca dress that crosses over to the front, fitted waist, leg slit. This should be appropriate enough to attend one of the biggest events this year.

I glanced at my Dad, who is still grumbling about how big his munchkin has grown, as he got into the driver's seat of the car. He has been grumbling since he saw my dress, and mom had told him to look at how much of a woman I have become. We got into the car and we headed to the airport for the wedding.

The event has been attracting the media’s attention since the moment the Smiths first announced it. And that is their son's wedding.

Mason Smith's wedding. Today, at the age of 29, Mason would tie the knot with his future wife. That is why we are all here in the car heading to the most phenomenal wedding hall in Los Angeles.

On getting to the building, my heart was beating fast as I stared at the grand entrance. The place is packed with celebrities, too many faces I recognize from the TV– actresses, actors, politicians, socialites, supermodels, singers and business men and women.

When we arrived at the reception- a hall so huge and glamorous, filled with even more well groomed guests- my breath caught in my throat. There are reporters interviewing some guests and the media staff interviewing the event. This wedding will definitely be aired on television, though it might not be broadcasted live.

My mom strides towards Mira, Mason's mom, who's standing in one of the rows near the altar, looking beautiful in her silver, long sleeve gown, her hair styles in an elegant twisted bun. She waved when she saw mom, and we approached her. She greeted mom with a hug, and a light peck on her cheeks. She greeted my Dad with a hug too.

“Happiness." She beams, finally turning to me,her eyes sparkling with delight. “Look how big you've grown. So beautiful." We hugged each other, a warm smile on my lips.

“Thank you ma'am." I said, pulling from the hug.

“Come sit here." She gestures for us to sit with her. Mom sits beside her. Dad is next to her, and I am on her other side. I can't help but travel my eyes around the place. I have never been in a hall this big.

Mr Smith snr came over to our table to talk to his wife. He seemed overwhelmed, they both did. Of course their son is getting married, they must be feeling emotional. I looked around trying to find my uncle, Max, but he was nowhere to be found.

“I can't believe it's finally happening." Mom's voice brought me back, causing me to shift my attention to her. “Can you believe it? He's finally getting married to the love of his life. They're finally tying the knot after seven years of being together." She smiled lovingly.

“They wanted to do it earlier, but they had to wait until Sandra finished her PhD degrees in London." A woman behind us said. “Two years of long distance was nothing to them, in fact, it made their relationship even stronger. Once she came back, everything went so fast, and here we are now." She tells her partner.

“I heard Mason visited her almost every weekend. I'm so happy for them both. She is Mason's first love." Her partner said.

“Mom, I can't find Uncle Max. Can you text him to know where he is? I haven't seen him in ages." I said to my mom, tuning the women behind me out.

“Okay dear. Let's see." Mom said bringing out her phone and texting him. “He said he's upstairs, in the groom's room. Room 245." She told me, and I stood up to excuse myself.

“Don't stay long, the ceremony is about to start." My Dad advised.

“Okay Dad. I'll be right back." I told him as I walked towards the exit.

I asked the security around how I could get to the elevator and he directed me. After getting off the elevator, I strolled down the hallway, my footsteps light and eager on the soft carpet, I couldn’t help but glance at the doors along the way, each one holding the quiet promise of a different story. Finally, I spotted it—the door with the number 245. I paused for a moment, before pulling the doorknob.

There's someone in a suit and matching trousers facing the window, deep in thought. He didn't even realize he was not alone.

I tiptoed to his back, and I hugged him.

“Oh my darling Uncle. I missed you so much. Why didn't you come to visit?” I said while hugging him as he was backing me.

“Uncle?” A different voice asked and it seems to come from the person I'm hugging. He turned around with me in his arms and I stared into his eyes. Dark eyes. Uncle Max's eyes are blue, like mine.

I let go of him immediately like I had been burned and blushed furiously. “Uhm… sorry. I… I thought you… were my uncle." I told him facing down.

A chuckle brought my attention back to his handsome face. “Hello cutie, why do you think your uncle is here?” He said, his voice sending shivers down my body.

“My mom said he would be here, in the groom's room." Then I glanced at his tailored suit matching trousers, and gasped. “You're the groom." I whispered but he heard me anyway.

“Yes darling. I am." That voice again. He brought his hands to my chin raising my face to meet his, the movement sending electricity through my body and I gasped leaning towards him.

“Your—” He was cut short by the door opening and we pulled apart.

My uncle walked in with a frown but smiled upon seeing me.

“Happiness." He gushed hugging me, trying and failing to carry me. “You've become big. I can't even carry you like I used too." He frowned.

“When you've failed to visit to see how I am. How would you know?” I asked mockingly. “Of course you wouldn't know I have grown. I'm almost an adult uncle, don't carry me like that again." I rolled my eyes at him, and a chuckle reminded us that we were not alone anymore.

Uncle Max looked up to his friend, smiled, and clapped his shoulder. “Big man, I see you've met my not so little niece.” He was rewarded with another chuckle- one that sends shivers down my body- from the groom. “Happy, meet the man of the Day. Today's groom, Mason Smith”. He said, while gesturing to the groom. “Bro, this is my niece, Happiness.”

“Happiness, such a nice name for a beautiful lady. It's so nice to put a face to the name I've been hearing for a while now. It's nice to finally meet you.” Mason said, fixing his heated stare on me. He stretched his hand for a handshake and I took it. I can feel his gaze on every part of me, sending electrifying sensations as his eyes trailed, making me blush.

“The pleasure is mine ” I threw him a dashing smile, still holding onto his outstretched arm.

My uncle, oblivious to what's going on around him, said in exasperation. “Man, I had no idea how much went into planning this! I feel like I haven't had a moment to relax in over 48 hours." He said, lying down on the bed. “Thank God this is a once in a lifetime thing.”

“Oh yeah? Thank God then." Mason said, removing his hand from mine but still staring at me.

“Sorry uncle. You're sounding stressed. Would you rest instead of attending the wedding?” I asked, facing him.

“No. I'd see it through. I'd rest after they've gone on their honeymoon." He said, winking at Mason.

Mason opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted by the door opening. His mom came in. “Darling, that's your cue." She and my brother escorted him out, and he turned back when he got to the exit and nodded at me.

I went back to join my family at their seats. “What took you so long, honey? The groom is about to walk out." Mom said, and I shrugged.

The groom walked out. His eyes are focused ahead, his face a mixture of nervous anticipation and quiet joy. The guests' murmurs fade into a hushed silence as he begins to walk down the aisle, each step deliberate yet filled with the weight of the moment. His posture is proud, but there's a softness in his gaze as he looks ahead toward the entrance, anticipating his bride's entrance.

The hall was filled with an air of anticipation, the soft hum of whispers buzzing through the seats as the guests eagerly awaited the bride’s grand entrance. The heavy doors swung open, revealing a lady looking skittish, as she walked toward the altar- to the groom.

“The bride is nowhere to be found." She breathed, but it was heard in the silent hall.

Dad, who is sitting across from me, stares at me with a mixture of happiness and sadness. He is happy that I am happy, but he doesn't like me moving out of the house. “You remember the rules, right?” I sigh, and nod. Mom sitting next to him shakes her head knowingly. “Words munchkin." He looked at me disapprovingly. “Yes Dad." Another sigh. “It's just for a session." I muttered. Dad scrutinizes me. “A year, Happy. That's not a short period." He said, sounding offended. “I'm sure during that time she will gain so much from joining one of the best classes of business technology she's been dying to have." Mom said, patting his arm reassuringly. That is the reason he agreed in the first place. “The rules, Happy." “No drinking. No clubbing. No walking alone at night." “And don't ta

When I looked up, I saw a man wearing a security uniform staring down at me. He's tall, and even with the small amount of light in the room, I can still recognize his face. He's the middle-aged security guard who was in the lobby downstairs. The sight of him and not a burglar makes me startled. The moment I noticed his dark eyes roaming down my features, chills ran down my spine. He doesn't move, just standing there staring at me like I'm the most precious object in the room. I moved back as my pulse quickens. “What are you doing here?” I asked, even though I know he's not here for his duty. “Are you checking my apartment? But I didn't call anyone." I keep talking, praying that I'm able to buy time before the security gets here. I moved back again, and to my horror he stepped closer to me. He tilts his head, still eyeing me. A calm smile touches the corner of his lips. “Ms McGregor,” his low voice echoes in the room. It's filled with lust and makes my stomach churn. I feel like

I still can't believe what I'm seeing. Mason is walking towards me. The glare he shoots at the officer makes me think he's going to lash out at him, but he focuses his attention on me. The moment he stops in front of the bed, right in front of me, I'm stunned. He's indeed the one. I didn't know that he's in Los Angeles. But then, Smith Enterprises has many branch offices scattered all around the country, and he may be here to take care of business. But he's wearing a police uniform. How? “Mason?” I whispered in a small voice, but it's impossible for him to miss it. He frowns before disbelief crosses his face. “Happiness?” My name comes out of his mouth, sending shivers down my spine and I gasp at the intensity. He tears his gaze away from me and mutters what seemed to be a silent curse. “When the officer told me your name, I didn't expect it to be you. I'm so sorry about this. Are you hurt?." He questioned. “No. I'm fine." I whispered. “This vicinity is under

I woke up with a start, my heart pounding in my chest so fast. The vividness of my dream clung to me, and my cheeks burned. “What the hell was that?” I whispered to myself, burying my face in my hands. My phone vibrated beside me where I left it, bringing me out of my reverie. I checked the time and I sprang up immediately. Past 9, I have to be on the campus by 10am. I overslept. Damn..I ran into the bathroom, and I heard my phone ringing while brushing. I went back inside to check who was calling me. ‘Dad’ I whispered when I remembered where I was but I had to pick up anyway if I didn't want him knocking on my door by evening. “Hi Dad.” I tried to sound excited. “Munchkin, are you just waking up? You have to be in school in less than an hour, and I'm pretty sure you're not dressed”. He scolded. “Dad, I'm not–” I started to defend myself but he interrupted me. “You are still sounding groggy, I'm pretty sure my call woke you up.” He sighed. “I think we've always overlooked this,

Before I can fall face first on the floor, a strong arms helps me regain my balance, and saves me from falling. When I got on my feet, I looked up to my savior, and I found a guy staring down at me, still holding my arms. He has beautiful blue eyes like mine - even his glasses can't make them any less captivating. His hair is brown with messy bangs. I snapped out of my trance when I realized that all eyes were suddenly on us. The guy looks shocked too, and it takes a few more seconds before he let go of me completely. “Thanks.” I said, and he responded with a small smirk. He nods slightly before walking off, and I find it amazing that people were still staring at me even after resuming my steps. My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I roll my eyes as I see who's calling. Dad. He's requesting a video call. I settled down in a nearby seat before picking the call.“Munchkin.” He started, and I showed him my surroundings. You just closed your eyes all of a sudden. Are you okay?” He asked, his eyes filled with concern. “Uhn? What happened?” I asked him, looking around and confused. ‘We're still in the backyard. Who interrupted our kiss?’ I wanted to ask, but kept quiet. “I was talking to you, then suddenly you just closed your eyes and you weren't saying anything.” ‘Oh My God! Did I imagine that kiss? But it felt so real, I even got goosebumps.’ “Oh, okay. Thank you.” I finally said when I noticed Mason was still looking at me. “What were you saying anyways?” I asked, acting nonchalant. I wanted to know why he touched me in the first place, my blood boiling in my veins all of a sudden. “I wanted to apologize about this morning.” He said, and I raised my brows. “I won't wander around shirtless again, I don't want you to be

I don't want to miss anything important. “I expect you to send the case study report by the end of next week. You can work in a group of two or three.” The lecturer said before walking out of the classroom. Now that I think about it, I don't have a partner to do the assignment with. I'm new here - an exchange student - while other classmates have already formed into groups. “Have you got a partner for the case study?” A voice asked behind me, and I turned towards it to find a girl sitting behind me. A smile spreads across her lips. “Would you like to join our team?” She asked. “It will be three of us.” Among my classmates, she was the first to reach out to me, and I appreciated her kindness. “I'm Martha by the way.” She extended her hand to shake hands with me, and I accepted it with a smile. “I'm Happy.” I told he

I wanted to tell him that I would kiss him again and again till we both forgot our names. Instead, I cleared my throat. “You're right. It's my fault. The next morning, I woke to an empty bed. Mason had already left for work, but the faint scent of his cologne lingered on the pillow beside me. It was a small comfort, though it did little to ease the unease stirring in my chest. The messages had stopped for now, but the silence felt more ominous than reassuring. Whoever was behind them had wanted me to find the connection to Sandra’s brother, and they’d succeeded. The next question was why and what they wanted from me.I forced myself out of bed, showered, and headed to campus. The routine of classes and tutoring was a welcome distraction, but even as I sat in the lecture hall, scribbling notes, my mind wandered back to Mason. To Sandra. To Charles.By the time I left campus, the sun was dipping below the horizon, casting long shadows across the streets. I pulled my coat tighter around me, quickening my pace. The feeling of being watched was hard to shake, though every time I glanced over my shoulder, the streets were empty. When I r

Mason had left early that morning, promising to check in after work. I knew he was doing everything he could to protect me, but I couldn’t help myself. As soon as I was alone, I found myself searching for answers.Sandra’s brother, Charles, had been a name I barely remembered from years ago. I combed through old articles online, piecing together fragments of the past. He’d been in some kind of trouble before his sudden death, but details were scarce. Mason’s name didn’t appear anywhere, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that the message was pointing to something real.Hours passed, and I barely noticed. The more I read, the more my stomach twisted. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon a report about a police raid gone wrong that everything clicked. Sandra’s brother had been at the scene. And Mason had been the officer in charge. He was arrested for the murder before he was acquitted. I sat back, my hands trembling. I didn’t want to believe it, but the evidence was right there. Mason was

The apartment felt colder without Mason. He’d left a few hours ago for a late shift, but his absence was heavier tonight. I tried to focus on my schoolwork, yet every creak of the floorboards and whisper of the wind against the windows had my nerves on edge.By midnight, I gave up. My books were abandoned on the coffee table as I curled up on the couch with a blanket, the TV humming in the background. Mason had promised to call when he was on his way home, and I was determined to wait up for him.I must have dozed off, because the next thing I knew, I was startled awake by a faint click. At first, I thought I’d imagined it. I sat up, blinking groggily at the TV, but the sound came again. A soft, deliberate noise, like a lock turning. My chest tightened. The apartment was still, the kind of stillness that prickled under your skin and warned you something wasn’t right. I glanced at the door, my breath hitching. The lock. Did I double-checke it after Mason left?“Mason?” I called out h

Happiness POV The morning light filtered through the blinds as I groggily reached for my phone. I barely slept after that message. My heart still raced every time I thought about the words: “Sweet dreams, Happy.”My thumb hovered over Mason’s contact. I wanted to call him, to tell him everything. But how could I? He was busy working on a major case, and I didn’t want to sound like a paranoid college girl afraid of her own shadow. Though I know Mason would refute that thought.Still, the text haunted me. I shook my head and told myself that it was just a prank. It was probably one of my course mates with too much time on their hands. I can count the number of people I speak to in class aside from my friends and Leah's group. As the day wore on, I tried to push the strange incident out of my mind. Between my literature class, tutoring sessions, and the girls, I managed to keep myself distracted. But as I walked into the apartment that evening, the unease crept back in.Something was

Not like this. Carefully, I slipped out of Mason’s embrace, wrapping the blanket around me as I walked toward the window. The morning light bathed the room in soft hues, but it did little to calm the storm brewing inside me.“Why are you up so early?” Mason’s groggy voice broke the silence, making me turn. He was sitting up, and even with his hair tousled he was still handsome, a sleepy yet concerned look on his face.I gave him a small smile, though it didn’t quite reach my eyes. “Just thinking.”“About what?” He swung his legs over the side of the bed, standing and walking toward me.“Mason…” I hesitated, my fingers tightening around the edge of the

These past few days, I've been even more attached to her that going to bed without spending some time with her feels like something is missing.I know we've had sex a couple of times, but I try to control myself around her. The last time I almost lost it was the weekend. We had sex all night long, and I made her cum so many times. Not that I wasn't proud of it though.
