Chapter 6

After comforting Sunny, Chris went to the balcony, his expression still in a firm scowl as he reached for his phone and tapped on my direct messages.

The last message from me was from half a month ago, asking where he was, and the two of cut basically cut contact since then.

He hesitated for a bit, turning the phone on and off, before tapping a few words slowly.

"If you aren't dead, come back here."

Seeing that I didn't reply, he deleted the message and threw the phone onto the table.

For a second there, I was shocked to realize that Chris missed me. A moment later, I berated myself for even thinking that he might care about me in any capacity. He wanted me as far away as possible so that he could be with his true love.

I had been dead for a while now, anyway, so I wouldn't ever get between them. Good for them, I suppose.

I was about to leave when a kitten jumped over from the rooftop of our neighbor's house. It was the stray cat that Chris and I fed together.
