Chapter Four

Selena's POV 

I walked back into the library with the guard still close behind me and Raymond was already seated this time. He smiled on seeing me as I entered and he stood up from his chair before coming toward me. He ran his finger through the locks of my hair slowly with a longing look in his eyes and I shivered in sheer anger as I shut my eyes tight and fisted my hands to hold myself back while letting him touch me. It felt unfamiliar… like I was being touched by a stranger and I wanted him to stop so badly because all that filled my mind was an image of him as a complete stranger that was different from the sweet and nice Raymond that I once knew before all of these.

“I guess you’ve decided to be by my side now. I taught you were going to try and escape from the bathroom. Good thing you have the sense to not try something so stupid” he said to me teasingly as he took his hand out of my hair and he laughed while I forced a smile on my face at him, still trying to convince him that I was now on his side without giving out any hint of what I did in the bathroom to him because he couldn’t know that I sent a secret code to the Alpha.

“Why would I do that? I knew what I was doing when I agreed to work with you Raymond” I told him and he gave me a satisfied smile before he led me to a chair in the library and sat me down.

“All I need you to do for me now is to sit there and look pretty until I have something else for you to do. Until then, just be my pretty girlfriend” he ordered and I just did as he said because I couldn’t risk making him lock me up again in that room as he did before.

All I cared about was the Alpha and if he got the message because I didn’t want him to get hurt. I couldn’t risk letting that happen to the only person that could save this pack from the impending doom that was about to befall us.

I sighed to myself as I folded my arms across my chest and watched him go through documents and papers in the Alpha’s seat. I almost scoffed at him because he would be stuck in the dungeon when Alpha returned and locked him up for betraying him.

A few hours passed and I was still seated there while I watched Raymond closely.

Soon the lights in the library were turned on since it was already dark and not long after that, a guard rushed in and Raymond looked up from his table at the guard.

“Speak” he urged the guard and he bowed his head for a while before he began to talk.

“News was just received from outside the pack beta Raymond. Alpha has been captured and now he’s trapped” the guard said and a wide smile slowly took over Raymond’s face while his eyes glowed.

“The Alpha’s been captured and trapped? Well isn’t that great news!” He exclaimed joyfully as he stood up and clapped with glee before folding his hands at his back and he came towards me.

“Selena, you heard that right? Your beloved Alpha that you badly wanted to save has been captured and trapped in my hands. It's a good thing you switched to my side before this happened” he said while caressing my chin with his forefinger and I forced a smile on my face at him even though I was panicking inside.

My plan didn’t work. Alpha didn’t get the coded message and now he had gotten captured and trapped. Did that mean this was the end of this pack under Alpha’s reign? Did that mean that Raymond was just going to take over after getting rid of the Alpha?

I still couldn’t understand why he was doing this because Alpha had always been good to him all the years that they knew each other. Now he was just going to betray him and get rid of him like he was never a good leader to him? Wasn’t that too wicked of him?

Raymond took my hand and he pulled me up to meet him while I gasped softly in shock because I didn’t expect it and he grinned.

“Now, we should have dinner and go to bed against tomorrow when we’ll go and meet the Alpha wherever he has been captured,” he told me and with that, he tugged me out of the library, making me follow him closely behind since he was still holding onto my hand.

He took me to the dining table in his quarters and the table was already set with the dinner that the maids left for us. 

Then he sat me down and he wore the napkin for me on my chest like I was his doll before he took his seat opposite me and ordered the maid that stayed behind to serve us.

I didn’t want to eat because he could poison the food if he wanted but I couldn’t let him know that I still suspected him. It could get him upset and probably make him lock me up.

So I ate once the maid was done and took her to leave.

We finished eating in silence and Raymond called for a maid to get the plates out which she did and bowed on her way out.

I stood up to stretch and Raymond followed to stand up immediately. He came towards me and grabbed me by the waist before pulling me towed him and he held me tight in his grasp.

“We’re all alone Selena, and I want to have you tonight,” he said in my ear and I looked at him immediately while he pouted mockingly.

“What? You’re my girlfriend and this isn’t the first time we’re doing this” he said and with that, he latched his lips against mine without expecting it.

I tried to push him off me but he wouldn’t budge as he held me tighter to himself until I couldn’t take it anymore. I followed my instincts and I blindly kicked him in the shin then he let me go before he doubled over in pain while clutching his groin.

I used that opportunity to run out of the room and there was no guard around so I ran off into the night.

I ran until my chest began to clutch tight from the insides and it felt like my lungs were about to burst from the distance I had covered on foot.

Soon, I began to hear whistles far behind me and I knew that it was Raymond who called on the guards to find me. I was sure that he already branded me a traitor to the pack on realizing that I was never on his side in the first place. He would have to make me his in the next life because I was never going to be the Luna of a man who betrayed to rule a pack that wasn’t his.

After putting a safe distance between me and Raymond with his guards, I hid in between two trees where I was sure they wouldn’t find me when suddenly, my body began to feel hot and all my sensual senses in me were suddenly awake.

I’m confused, I began to wonder what was happening because I wasn’t feeling this way minutes ago.

That was when I remembered. It was my birthday and I was finally an adult. I was in heat because it meant my mate was near me. Fear clutched me as I wondered if it was Raymond that had found me and I began to pray to the moon goddess with all that I had to not make him my mate.

A shadow suddenly passed when I least expected it and I caught a scent that made my wolf growl ‘mate’ in my head, keeping me alert.

The footsteps began to retreat and the person stopped at the foot of the tree before he looked up at me.

“Selena?” He called and I recognized the voice immediately.

“Alpha?” I called back in shock before I came out of where I hid and faced him in surprise.

What was he doing here? The guard said he was trapped so he wasn’t supposed to be here, except he managed to escape.

The scent became stronger as I stepped closer to him and that was when I realized as I stared at him with wide shocked eyes and he looked at me with surprise too.

All my sexual wants suddenly grew more intense and it was getting harder to stop them as we both stared at each other.

“You’re… my mate?” He asked in equal shock too and I just swallowed because I couldn’t form any words to reply to what he just asked.

Was the moon goddess playing a trick on me?
