Chapter Five

I could feel my eyelids getting heavy. I had been up all night and I was so tired. I knew if I could make it one more hour, I could sleep on the plane. Jemma had replied and said she was glad I was coming and that she knew what time my flight was meant to land and she would be there to pick me up.

I had asked her how many of the guys were locked up… apparently, all of them were which... Was shocking. I was with them long enough… and had enough experience with their ‘’rivals’’ to know that the whole MC being locked up in prison wasn’t good for business… legal or otherwise.

I went and got another coffee before I headed for my gate. We left in about an hour which means we will be boarding any minute now…

***

Sitting down in my seat, I sighed. Christ, I was exhausted. I had a window seat, obviously, at the minute, it was just a lovely view of the tarmac, but soon it would be a view from the sky at the world below.

I waited for the flight attendants to do their speeches and safety warnings and checks and then I leaned back in my seat, closed my eyes and drifted off knowing that not only would I be back in PTV soon enough, but I was finally safe. For good…

***

The flight attendance voice booming through the PA system throughout the plane woke me up. She was telling us we would be landing soon and I looked around. What? I had slept the whole flight?!

I looked out the window, but couldn’t see much, we must have been above the clouds. Every now and then I’d see some bits of buildings or the sea, standard things but obviously not much else. I sat back and smiled.

The excitement inside me building even more.

I just sat, staring out of the window as the ground slowly got closer and closer and eventually, we landed and got off the plane. I was nervous in case I couldn’t find Jemma. I mean, I knew how to get to the garage alone, I’ve done it before, but the only instructions she had given me was that she knew what time my plane landed and knew when to come and get me.

I just went about going to get my bags and do the other bits and bobs you needed to do when coming out of the airport and then luckily, as I exited the area where you needed a ticket to be in, I saw her.

She was waiting in the middle of the airport entrance for me.

As soon as I saw her, I rushed over and threw my arms around her, hugging her tight, an action she reciprocated. When I pulled away, I couldn’t stop smiling.

‘Come on, I’m parked right outside.’ Even now, she breaks the rules. You weren’t allowed to park ‘’right out’’ the airport, but I wasn’t going to tell her that, she clearly already knew. I couldn’t help but smile more.

Throwing my bags into the backseat, I climbed into the front and Jemma started the car.

‘So, what’s going on? Why are the guys in prison?’ She sighed, pulling out and starting the drive back to PTV.

‘Someone went to the police and told them they had witnessed a murder and that the guys were involved, they gave accurate descriptions of what happened, where the body was, who was involved…’

‘You mean details that would be hard to lie about unless it was true’. She nodded.

‘Yeah, something like that’.

‘Did they do it?’ She looked over, the expression on her face was clear. They did. Of course, they did.

‘The guys are in prison while they wait for trial but the prosecutor is really dragging their feet with it’.

‘Why?’ She shrugged.

‘I don’t know, But the club has been denied bail, they are being seen as a flight risk’.

‘Are they?’

‘Some are. Tommy is, He’s skipped bail before, flew back to the UK for a few years. This was back in the ’80s, He’s done his time since then. It's good though, the longer they drag their feet, the more time we have to sort out what needs doing’.

‘And what needs doing?’

‘We will talk about it when we get back. Everyone is waiting’.

‘Why did you need me?’

‘You’re asking a lot of questions, Harley’. I apologised. I had forgotten how it worked here. I wasn’t meant to ask too many questions but I honestly couldn’t see how I was meant to help the guys out here. What could I do about it? I was powerless! What could I do that Jemma couldn’t?

I guess I’ll have to wait to find that out..

The rest of the car ride back to the garage was pretty much done in silence, except when Jemma asked how things were back home in England. There wasn’t much to report... Much like the club... I didn’t like sharing my secrets either.

Very bitter and very jealous.Jemma still hasn’t shared what her plan actually was for getting the guys out of prison or why she needed me to help her… which was strange because she said I needed to come back as soon as possible and it just feels like we're all mooching around, wasting time...I tried asking a few times but she just kept telling me she was waiting on some information and then she was going to share it with everyone. Chapter NineWalking back, the heat was more annoying than pleasant now. I couldn’t help but think… How long had Jemma been seeing that man behind Ron’s back? Was it a recent thing or had it been going on for a while?I mean, I think I was proof enough that Ron wasn’t exactly faithful… at least he hadn’t been in the past, I couldn’t judge her, I didn’t know enough about their relationship, or care to for that matter, to do that.I was almost home when I heard a car honk and pull up next to me. I looked over and saw Jemma, smiling, waving at me. I debated just ignoring her, but she knew I had seen her now, it would just cause more awkward tension later on. I headed over to see what she wanted.

It was cute, seeing all the little clothes and shoes.‘So, are you excited?’ I asked as we walked down the baby aisle of the supermarket, Sarah’s cart already filled with diapers, wipes and some other bits and bobs. She stopped at the bottles and loaded a bunch into the cart too.

I ran up the yard and into the office, but it was empty.‘Shit!’. Turning around, I headed into the clubhouse. Eric and some of the others were in there, and luckily, so was she. ‘What happened? Is he ok?!’ I asked frantically. Jemma came over to me, putting her arm around my shoulder and took me to sit down.‘Harry was attacked’. I nodded, knowing that part. ‘He’s going to survive it’. I let out a breath I hadn’t realised I had been keeping inside and dropped my head into my hands. I was so glad, Jesus Christ, I was so glad!

I just felt like a mess right now. After making more than a few rounds of the whole place, there was no sign of the man in the photo I had seen. We even split up to check all the areas just to make sure we weren’t missing him while we checked one space, but he wasn’t here.Stacy went and asked the bartender if he looked familiar, but that proved pointless too, the bartender had never seen him... One minute he was here, alive, then the next... He was gone. Just like that. Due to it being a shooting and him dying in the hospital, Police were involved but of course, Allan made it go away so the club could deal with it all themselves. In their own way, I guess. I smiled and said I was doing fine and asked if there was any news… but of course there wasn’t.I had gotten to know the doctors and nurses here quite well over the past few weeks. I rarely left Alex’s room, to the point they had actually provided me with a bed to sleep in now. It wasn’t comfortable... But it was more comfortable than the chair and meant I didn’t need to go home at night anymore.I only left when I absolutely needed to, for new clothes or food.

Forever, and I wasn’t going to let that happen. As far as I knew, everyone had gone home. It was very late but luckily, when they realised I wasn’t leaving, the nursing staff brought me a blanket and allowed me to stay with him. I mean, what was the harm? The beeping of his machines, keeping him alive, were a horrific constant reminder of where we were and what was going on. I looked out the window, I couldn’t see anything.
