Aurora's POV

I packed my few salvageable valuables from the ground before the rain started to pour.

My eyes rested heavily on the house I'd called home for years.

Now my ex-husband was cozying up with another woman.

Slowly, my fingers tightened around the steering wheel as I reversed my car from the garage and drove off to another place I used to call home.

Father and mother weren't expecting to see me, and so late in the night too. I usually kept my visits to their place on the minimum. There did little to hide their displeasure over my unplanned visit .

They gave me a cold reception, and were questioning me before I could even sit down were already interrogating me.

“Why did you come here like this? and why didn't you tell us you were coming?” Father said coldly.

“Do I need to book appointment to see my own parents?”

They both exchanged looks with each other and It was my mother that replied.

“You must not read so deeply into everything, it was a simple question and for whatever reason, you hardly ever visit,”

I sighed, they hardly ever missed me, it was just their partial guilt talking because deep down inside they knew they'd always been unfair to me.

I recalled the conversation we had years ago when I was in the twelfth grade, excitedly I'd brought my parents a list.

Father took the list and studied it with a disapproving stare.

“All these colleges are really expensive!” Was his first comment passing the slip of paper to my mother who gasped dramatically.

“Do you think your Father and I are secret millionaires or something?”

My chest grew heavy, disappointment washing over me like a wave. Everyone knew that college was expensive, besides my parents never tried to cushion Amy's dreams when she said she wanted to study abroad severally.

“I'll make another list–”

“Aurora,” my mother cut in, “Actually your father and I have been thinking that maybe you should forfeit college,”

I thought she was joking, she had to be.

“B-but why?” I stuttered.

“I have really good grades –one of the best in my class!”

Father sighed.

“Things are a little tight now, unless you're willing to let Amy go to college first–”

“What?” I blurted out, “How come you have the funds for Amy but not me?”

“Watch your tone,” Father warned me and I shrinked back.

“Your sister has always excelled better than you in school, so we put aside a hefty bulk of cash for her college fund so she won't have to rely on a student loan,”

I looked at both of them, my mouth hanging speechless for a while.

“But I'm the one mostly getting straight A and her report card is littered with C at best,”

Mother rolled her eyes and waved her hand in dismissal.

“Don't be childish, Amy attends a private school her C is better than an A in your pathetic public school,”

My heart was squeezed with pain, they were the ones who insisted I went to that *pathetic* public school, and now they wanted to hold me back?

I didn't let them squash my dreams, and worked hard to bag a two year scholarship at Brennfield, with a student loan to finish up the remaining years.

And my relationship with my parents never recovered.

“What do you mean he kicked you out?”

My mother demanded to know as she scooted forward on the couch until she came to the edge.

“Yes,” I answered weakly.

“Honey, are you hearing this?” she said, turning back to face my father who had his hands folded as he shook his head.

“I am, it's unbelievable,” he looked at me regarding me with a perplexed expression.

“But why are you here now?”

I was surprised by that question, even so I leaned forward to answer it.

“Father, I have no way else to go. If I can't stay here I'll be homeless,” I explained to him frankly.

“Why are you making this our problem?” My mother yelled at me, “... Don't think that we are going to defend you just because we are your parents, Zayne already told us what you did wrong,”

“He did?” I said, so they have been going behind my back to talk to him?

“He did,” my mother said affirmatively, “he said that you were as useless as a log of wood in bed,”

I bit back my tongue, my 2 minutes ex-husband really had the audacity to lie like that, but I knew that my parents weren't going to believe me anyways.

“Maybe all of that would have not mattered if you had at least had him a single child, both of you have been married for years and nothing to show for it!”

I suddenly struggled to breath.

Coming here, I had not expected my parents to pull me into an understanding and loving embrace.

To them, I was nothing more than an annoyance unlike their beloved daughter, Amy.

But still, I had not expected them to be so cold.

“He's not going to take me back, I signed the papers without looking and now he owns basically everything!”

I fell to my knees, hoping to provoke some kind of parental sympathy in their hearts.

“Father, I won't stay here for more than a couple of weeks. In fact I will even pay rent and–”

“Enough!” My father said, standing up from the couch and coming over to grab me by my arm, forcing me up to my feet.

“Get out!” He seethed pointing straight to the door in a heartless gesture.

“Everything that is happening to you is because of your own poor decisions, so if you are so eager to get on your knees then do that in front of your husband…”

He pushed me harshly until I almost staggered and fell, but at the last moment I managed to regain my balance.

With tears pouring down my cheeks, I left my parents house.

I had only gone there as a last result and yet they kicked me out with out any hesitation.
