JANE'S POV
“Where’s Gray?” I asked the maid as I held my father’s urn.
I just went back from the funeral home where my father’s remain was cremated. As an only daughter, no one was with me as I processed everything regarding his death. Even my husband, who was always so busy with his family’s business, didn’t come with me.
“He is upstairs, Ma’am. Do you want me to call him for you? He just got back from his office,” the maid offered, but I shook my head to refuse. With tears trickling down my face, I went upstairs to see him, hoping that maybe tonight, now that my father was dead, he would be here to comfort me.
“Ooh, Gray! I like that! Please, I wanna cum so bad!”
“I’ll make you cum, Hazel…”
Standing at the doorway, my hands shook as I tried to convince myself that this was not our room. I refused to believe that Gray would bring another woman here. Not in our household. But no matter how I tried to fool myself that this was not happening, their moans were becoming louder as time passed. I held my breath tight and opened the door.
“Oh, Gray! Please, I am cumming!”
“Ah, Hazel!”
How could they do this to me?
Tears cascaded down my cheeks as I saw my husband on our bed, topping Hazel, his newly hired secretary. The two were oblivious to my presence, but later on, Hazel noticed me standing at the doorway.
“G-Gray!”
The woman got alarmed, making her push my husband off the bed. She picked her clothes up and got dressed, her eyes couldn’t meet mine. Gray’s eyebrows were furrowed as he turned in my direction, seemingly bothered by his secretary’s sudden reaction.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, his tone filled with annoyance. I looked at him in disbelief. Where did he get the audacity to ask that?
“What do you mean by that, Gray? My father just died! I am expecting you to fucking comfort me but this is what I come home to!” I exclaimed, my veins almost popping out. With my hands shaking, I put my father’s urn on the table and went to his secretary. I was about to hit her when Gray’s calloused hand stopped my palm.
“Do not fucking stop me, Gray! I gave you everything! How could you? My father just died and you are here cheating—”
“Cheating on you? What do you mean, Jane? We have made it clear that I will never love a woman like you!” he cut me off. I tried hard to cast his hand away, but Gray was undeniably stronger than me and he didn’t make an effort to make me fall on the ground.
“How could you, Gray? We have been married for three years and this is what you’re going to pay me? I have been nothing but a loyal wife to you! How could you cheat on me with Hazel?”
Hazel was one of the people I trusted the most. I didn’t expect her to betray me! How could she repay my kindness with this? I could not believe them!
“Oh, you wanna know why? Because she’s not a trying hard like you. She does not pretend to be a reserved woman… like you.”
With that, he turned his back on me and picked up his clothes. With tears in my eyes, I stood up and regained my composure, hiding how broken I was right now. Hazel could not meet my eyes until my husband entered the bathroom, leaving me alone with his mistress.
“Are you hurt, Jane?”
The audacity of this woman to ask? My lips trembled as I shot her with a piercing glaze.
“Who gave you the right to call me by my name? You are nothing but a filthy whore! A woman who lured my husband into something... nasty!”
She crossed her arms across her chest, laughing at me.
“Lured your husband? You were the one who recommended me to him. You made me closer to him, Jane. And… is it my fault that you could not satisfy him?”
My lips trembled as I tried to suppress my sobs. She was right. I was the one who recommended her to Gray. I found her as a regular but hard-working employee. She impressed me, that was why I told my husband about her in hopes that I would be a help to him. I didn’t know that this wench was nothing but a snake. A fucking traitor and a user!
“That’s right! I was the one who put you in that position, but I didn’t expect that this is your way of saying thank you, Hazel! Of all people, why does it have to be Gray? He’s a married man!”
“Oh, don’t worry about him being married to you, Jane. Gray would be free from you soon…” she stated, making my eyebrows furrow. Gray would be free from me? What does she mean? I had been married to him for two years and there was never a time that I caged him at home. I gave him the freedom he wanted!
I blinked my eyes rapidly as I watched Hazel walk toward the bedside table as if she owned this room. My heart hurt at the thought. Since when did my husband start fucking this woman? Since when did he start putting dirt in our room?
“There… Take a look at that.”
I was pulled out of my thoughts when Hazel aggressively threw papers at me. I didn’t have the time to react to her disrespect, as I was shaken when I saw what was printed on it.
“You see that? Once you sign those papers, Gray will be forever free from you. He would no longer suffer being married to you, Jane—”
“I said don’t fucking call me by my name! You are nothing but a mere secretary. Do you think fucking my husband would make you his wife? Do you think his family would like you once they know your social status? You were nothing before I made you his secret—”
“Enough! Who do you think you are to threaten Hazel? You don’t have the right to speak so high and mighty about your stand in this family, Jane! We all know where you stand. I have never loved you as my wife!”
Both of us were interrupted when Gray went out of the bathroom. Compared to what he looked like a while ago, he now appeared more decent. His piercing gaze was directed at me, seemingly loathing my entire being.
“What’s the meaning of this, Gray? You’re divorcing me for this woman? You’re gonna go this far?” I stated, my voice trembling.
“Well, what else do you want me to do with you? Your father is now dead. We are only married in papers. I never loved you. You know that, Jane.”
I could not believe him! I spent years of my life satisfying him. I endured his family’s insults in hopes that they would accept me. He was my only hope in this family, as he was the one tied to me. But what is happening now? He fucked one of the people I trusted… and now he would divorce me? He was so fucking cruel!
“You can’t do this to me, Gray—”
“I said enough!”
Tears were flowing like waterfalls as Gray got ahold of my arm and forcefully made me leave our house. He only let go of my hand when I was already outside, shivering in the cold.
“Leave this house and don’t ever show your face to us again! We are getting divorced soon, so don’t even tell people that you are part of my family. That you are still my wife, you disgusting whore!”
Hearing that made my forehead knot. Of all the insults that he called me, I could not fathom how this was the only thing that confused and hurt me at the same time. Disgusting whore? I didn’t even like another man aside from him!
“W-What? What do you mean, Gray?” I asked, stuttering. Since when did I become a whore? For goodness sake, he was the only man I had loved for years!
“Oh, stop acting like you don’t know. I am not a fool, Jane. Now, get the fuck away from me and leave my house! I don’t want to see you ever again!”
Gray turned his back on me and walked away until my blurry eyes could no longer see him anymore. I wanted to follow him so badly, but coming back to that house would surely do me nothing but accusations. No matter what I say, he would never like me. His family would never like me.
With shaking knees, I wandered under the dark sky, the cold breeze hitting my pale-white skin. Thunders rang my ear, but the sound of my heart beating was so loud that the noise surrounding me was becoming muffled.
Gradually, raindrops fell onto my skin. I embraced my body due to the cold. My mind seemed to be blank, unable to think clearly due to what just happened. I had nowhere to go.
I walked barefoot, having no idea how was I gonna survive tonight. Oh, how I wished someone would kill me this instant. That way, I would be able to be with my father. I would not suffer like this.
As I was walking, the thunder was suddenly replaced by a loud honk. I shifted my gaze to the side—only to see a bright light coming from an unfamiliar car. It was driving towards me at speed. My body froze. I felt like my feet were rooted to the ground, making me unable to walk away.
It was as if God had heard what I wanted, as the car collided with my body with force. Waves of excruciating pain shattered my being. My head was dizzy and I knew I would doze off anytime now. And as I was about to close my eyes, the car’s door opened. My sight was blurry, but I would never go wrong if I said that the familiar-looking woman walking towards me was no other than my husband’s secretary, Hazel.
“Oh, you’re still alive? I knew this would happen. Good thing I brought this...” she stated, holding a bat that would surely destroy my skull once it hit me. I tried to scream for help, but no sound would come out of my mouth.
“You know what? I pity you so much. I actually don’t wanna do this, but Gray hated you so much that he wants to get rid of you completely…”
Gray? Does kicking me out of my house and divorcing me not satisfy him enough? How could he ask someone to kill his wife who did nothing but care for him?
“Poor Jane. Once I successfully kill you, we will be forever free from you. Goodbye, Jane Williams…”
A lone tear escaped from my eyes as I began to close it, my heart unwillingly accepting my sorrowful end. As a powerful blow hit my head, memories of the past years played in my mind. It was funny how all I could remember was my suffering. There was not even a single happy day during my marriage.
Is this what you want, Gray? Is this what your family wanted? To get rid of me? Dying with bitterness made my heart filled with rage. If I were given another chance to live, I would make sure that all the pain I had been feeling right now would go back to them.
Especially him. My ex-husband. Gray Moore. I would not spare anyone from your family. I will make sure you will pay for this.
JANE'S POV“When is she gonna be okay, Doc? It had been months…”“Fortunately, Mrs. Jane Moore’s vitals are okay now. In the meantime, she needs to stay in bed. The intense impact of the collision damaged her legs.”“Can she still walk?”“She must undergo therapy to be able to walk again. Don’t worry, Madame. The chances of her full recovery are high. We just need to be a little patient.” Monitor beeps and muffled voices were the first sound to register in my ear. Sluggishly, my heavy eyelids started opening. Crystal white coffered ceiling was my first initial sight. I had a glimpse of people in my peripheral vision, and they seemed to be conversing about me. The immobility of my neck made it hard for me to know who they were. “A-Aah…” I tried to make a sound but even my throat started hurting. The word came out so raspy as if I hadn’t tasted water for weeks. What happened to me? “Oh my goodness, Doc! She’s awake!” the woman near me exclaimed. There were sudden movements around me
JANE'S POV— 2 years later —“We successfully bought Mrs. Baker’s share. Right now, we are one of Moore Estate’s major shareholders…” Miranda, my secretary, announced. Hearing that, a sly smile erupted from my lips, satisfied that everything was going according to plan.Well, well. What a good news to start this month. I wasn’t wrong when I asked my siblings to go back to Texas weeks before the Moore Estate’s anniversary. As one of the major shareholders, we would be invited, to be sure. “I can’t believe that Mrs. Baker would sell her husband’s share right after he passed. Poor woman. She probably doesn’t know how the business world works…” Kaihly, Kelly’s twin, remarked, her head resting on my shoulder. “It’s just perfect, alright? I mean, so sad that he died but duh? We got the shares! Jane finally has access to that company!” Kelly responded, clapping her hands for me. I did not comment. I had been waiting for this. I made sure that I would get access to that family's assets once
GRAY’S POV“A pleasant evening, everyone. It is an honor to stand in front of you today. To be honest, I didn’t expect this company to be this grand. I am a little pressured…”The guests who were unfamiliar with Jane laughed and cheered for her, while the others who knew my deceased wife, remained clueless about what was happening. My muscles were tensed, and my eyes could not leave the woman’s presence.“What kind of nonsense is this?! Why is that woman on the stage? Is this a joke? Mom! Do something about this!”Aerah was the first to react. Her sudden burst out took the attention of the guests that were previously drawn by Jane. Aerah’s reaction broke the ice that stiffened me in my seat. Damn, Aerah. This was not the time to be a fucking brat!“Aerah, sit down!” I ordered, my voice almost a whisper. She looked at me incredulously, her mouth slightly parted. She stood up, scoffing, making her the center of attention. Even Jane, who looked at her like she was a scandalous stranger
SERENA’S POV“Oh, your son’s here, Madame Geraldine. Since you’re acting like nothing’s happening here, do you want me to initiate and tell him about the accusations you’re throwing at me?” I offered, blatantly displaying a fake smile. The old woman’s eyes squinted, her lips turning flat. I turned my gaze on Gray, and just like how he looked at me the moment I showed myself on stage, his eyes were filled with confusion and mystery.“You’re so quiet… I don’t like it.”His silence reminded me of the days when I badly wanted to spend time with him, but I would always get nothing. Hearing that, Gray cleared his throat, swallowing.“I deeply apologize for all the troubles happening right now, Ms. Ambers—”“Don’t be. I am already disappointed. Given how wonderful this party looked, I never expected such treatment like this. If you want to redeem yourself, I suggest to stop trying tonight. Everything’s still fresh—”“Oh, shut up! Don’t even try to act so high and mighty, Jane Williams. We al
SERENA’S POV“Where’s Kelly now? Did she send us an update?” I tried to remain calm as I sat on the couch. I was still wearing the dress that I wore at the party, and even though it had already been an hour since I came home, I felt like I did not have the time to change. I was too preoccupied with what Kelly said. What does she mean that we have a problem? Did Aerah know about her already? It had only been a night, dammit!“Calm down, Jane. You know Kelly’s a good liar, right? She had been doing this for years. And besides, that girl Aerah trusted her so much that she won’t bother suspecting her…” Kaihly, Kelly’s twin stated, watching me silently panicked. She sat comfortably in front of me, her arm crossing against her chest. She knew what was happening. She even saw how Aerah made a scene at that party. I did not have an idea that my sister hacked the surveillance camera in that hotel to watch me get embarrassed by that filthy family.“She said that we have a problem, Kaihly. Wha
SERENA’S POV “Aerah Celine…” Gray called in a warning tone. The corner of my lips turned up, satisfied when I saw Aerah’s glare at her younger brother. Gray then cleared his throat as he fixed his position on his seat.“Well, all of you already know what this meeting is all about. Yesterday marked the 75th anniversary of Moore Estates, and unfortunately, a few misunderstandings happened that ruined the party…” Gray started. Almost everybody eyed me, then shifted their gazes on Aerah, who never looked away from me since I entered this room.“A complaint was sent to my office against the new member of the board, which is Ms. Serena Ambers…”I knew it. This was what Kelly told me last night. I was sure, Aerah and Geraldine were the ones who plotted this. And if I was judging right, Gray agreed with what they were planning, too.“With all due respect, Mr. Moore. I don’t understand. A complaint was raised against Ms. Ambers? Wasn’t she the one who was embarrassed by your sister last nigh
GRAY’S POV“What?” I muttered under my breath. Aerah laughed sarcastically. “You think I’m a fool, my younger brother? Why do you keep defending that woman, by the way? She resembles your wife almost perfectly. Is that the reason why?” With my forehead knotted, my brow almost met as I shot my sister dagger looks. “You are out of your mind, Aerah. Will you please just let me run this company properly? Even if Ms. Ambers is Jane or not, we cannot deny that she really put fortune and even helped the company’s growth! We can’t just kick her out!” “Ah, so you’ll let that bitch wander around our place as if she didn’t have a past with us? With you? My dear brother, are you really becoming a fool?” Oh, damn. Can she not understand me? She seemed to forget how the board reacted when Ms. Ambers said she would pull out her shares. With her influence, our investors might pull out their shares, too. “We can investigate about Ms. Ambers to know who she really is. I-I am sure your family is p
KELLY'S POV All of us turned our eyes towards Gray's secretary. I was confident that we had hidden Jane's identity excellently, but hearing Hazel say that she found something about my sister made my heart drum bizarrely. “You found out something? Didn't we just talk about investigating her this afternoon? How can you find something about her that fast?”Aerah questioned, raising her brow. What the hell does she know about my sister? “Didn't I tell you to get out of our family matters, Ms. Brown? In which part of what I told you was unclear?”Gray eyed his secretary with pure judgment. I knew where was this going. I had heard that Geraldine Moore favored this girl so much that even if Gray was the one who was talking, that old hag would defend this woman. “Let her, son. At least we already have information about that strange woman...”As I was expected. Geraldine would favor this girl with her life.“I already started knowing who she was even before I suggested it. I have known Ms.
GRAY’S POV“Tsk. Forget about that Serena Ambers, man. It’s so fucking obvious that you’re interested in that woman, but you’ll never be at peace with her because of your family. Why don’t you try liking other women? Your former secretary—”“Shut the fuck up, Kole. I told you I am not interested in dating for now. I won’t fucking deny nor confirm anything for now, too, because everything is just so fucking confusing.”I messed up with my hair as I looked down the floor. I was not a teenager to be fucking in denial with my feelings, but I wouldn’t name whatever I felt because damn, they were not the same person, but I was afraid if ever I was falling deeply in love with Serena just because she reminded me of Jane. I had met women like Serena Ambers before. Brave and bold, and they never get too carried away with their feelings just like her, but I was never interested. Maybe as business partners, yes, as I was assured of their professionalism, but other than that, they did not interes
GRAY’S POV “Damn, that was fucking straight to the point,” Kole stated, gasping. He lightly bumped his shoulder against mine as if telling me how bad it was, that it was rude and I should not have said that. Looking at Chelsea’s embarrassed expression, I thought he was right. I should have stayed quiet.“A-Ah, it’s okay Lawrence. You don’t have to force me to Gray. This party is for Marco. It should not be for me and Gray. And duh? We just met and he barely knew me. Stop shipping me to him, guys. It’s quite embarrassing for the both of us,” Chelsea told us, stuttering and not looking where I was. She had this huge smile on her face just a while ago when Marco’s friends were teasing her to me, but now that I told them how uninterested I was, she seemed to deny it and started acting conscious. Did that embarrassment do that to her? I apologized for being blunt, but that was what I truly felt. I wasn’t hoping for an issue. I would rather look rude from their perspective than let them
GRAY’S POV “Fucking hell,” I cursed as I parked the car outside Marco’s house. My right cheek still felt numb even if my sister had slapped the hell out of my face hours ago. The rearview mirror showed me the remembrance of it—it was red and had the tiny mark of her ring that was on her fingers when it happened. I hoped this birthday celebration was an intimate one. I could not afford to be seen by guests looking like this. Fuck, why does it have to be Marco’s birthday today? Knowing that man, he was a social butterfly who knew almost all the people in and outside Texas. I got out of the car and went inside my friend’s million-dollar house, bringing nothing but the face my sister hit. I had no time to bring him gifts when many things had happened today when it wasn’t even 10 pm yet. I was not even in the pool area yet I could already hear the sound of the music. What do I expect? Marco was a party animal. I got where they were wearing the suit that I often wore while I worked, giv
SERENA’S POV The lounge fell silent as Miranda walked toward me. I glanced at Kelly, hoping to see the expression on her face that said, “I wanna answer it.” But no. My younger sister only gave me a signal by nodding her head, seemingly telling me that I should be the one to answer it. Usually, Kelly would be the one to communicate with our mother. I always led the plan and sometimes would do what they suggested, but when it came to talking to the one who birthed us, Kelly was always our representative. She had the most amazing communication skills among us and she could convince the one and only Valeria Ambers not to go here. I took a deep breath as I received the phone from my secretary. Mom’s name flashed on the screen, making me nervous even more. I answered the call as silence enveloped inside the lounge room, turning on the speaker button so that my sisters could hear her, too.“Mommy…” I greeted, befuddled on what tone should I use. She just heard that I passed out in the de
SERENA’S POV “Kelly, stop with the arguing, please. There’s something that we need to do first before anything…” Kaihly interrupted us, her tone worried. We all looked at her simultaneously, forgetting what we were worried about in a split second. It was so rare to see Kaihly without her tablet or laptop. She would not be able to live without those gadgets. But right now, she had nothing on her hand. She was just listening to us, seemingly assessing the situation. “What is it? Are there other things that we need to be worried about besides that our mother is coming here anytime soon? Damn, Kaihly, what is it?”Kaihly took a deep breath and stood up. She then faced us all, the look of terror was hiding behind her eyes, yet it still could be seen from our point of view. With the way she was acting right now, I felt like something bad was about to happen. Kaihly was always calm and composed. She was the only person who could be so chill in the middle of chaos. “Miranda said that they
AERAH’S POVI only realized that they had gotten away already when an intern walked in front of me. Snapping back to reality, I clenched my fist and continued walking. I could not see them anymore, but the memory still lingered in my mind.Serena just passed out. Why did she have to cling like that to Landon? Why did Landon have to guard her as if someone would do something bad? He was freaking overreacting! I had not heard anyone died from freaking mild headache! If I knew, that Serena was just faking it for fucking attention! That was what she was… like what Jane always did! With my head knotting, I headed towards the clinic where Serena was just a while ago. I heard they did some lab tests on her. Well, not here because a clinic in a company could not do that. The probably got the things that they needed from her and did it at one of the nearest hospitals here—which our family also owned. I had not even gotten inside the clinic when its door suddenly opened, revealing my brother a
SERENA’S POVMy head was lightly in pain, but it was not throbbing enough to make me look suspicious in front of Gray and Miranda. My sight was starting to get clearer as I regained consciousness. I was not in my room. This room was like a mini hospital that I had never seen before. Is this still inside the Moore Estates? I had never been in here.“Ms. Ambers… are you okay? How are you feeling? You have been asleep for hours now. Do you feel dizzy? Is something hurting?” Miranda asked one after another. I sat down on the bed, my forehead knotted. Her questions were making my mind turn upside down. I just woke up, for goodness sake. I would not be able to process any information for now.“Stop, Miranda. My head might hurt again because of your questions. Please, I don’t wanna answer anything for a while right now,” I said, trying not to give an attitude but ended up sighing so deeply. The only thing that I wanted to do right now was go home. They had no idea how much I was nervous pas
SERENA’S POV — Serena’s Dream / Memory Continuation —I walked toward the dining room silently, hoping to see nothing but the food Lucia had prepared for me. I would surely eat the leftovers from last night. I would not let the food I worked hard for go to waste just because Gray did not show up. Lucia and I put our blood, sweat, and tears for all of these.“Lucia, I am here now…” I announced as I entered the dining room—only to halt and fall silent when I saw a man sitting at the end of the table. All of the dishes that we cooked yesterday were served. His eyes went straight to where I was, but he did not say anything or even greet me good morning. He was still here? I thought he had left already. I intentionally took my time preparing for the day because I thought he would not bother waiting for me. My eyes fell on his empty plate. It seemed like he had been waiting for me to come down and join him. It was clean and shining. “Good morning,” I greeted in a low voice, smiling fain
SERENA’S POV — Serena’s Dream / Memory —I stared at my reflection in the mirror, naked and my hair wet. I woke up today with a puffy eye due to crying the whole night. Last night was supposed to be a special night for me. We were supposed to celebrate my birthday, but Gray did not fulfill his promise. He did not show up. He did not even greet me through text or call. The only good thing yesterday was when my father visited me here. He made me feel special when it should be Gray doing that. How could he forget my birthday when I never forget to remind him about that damn dinner? Is he too busy that he forgot he had a wife? I knew we were only married through papers. He did not love me and I was merely a stranger to him, but can’t he at least show up as a respect to his wife? We were not personally in a relationship, but in the eyes of the public and the eyes of the law, he was married to me. Is he even taking this marriage seriously? “Tsk. What kind of question is that, Jane? Of c
