Safe

Chapter Eight.

Diana's POV.

I watched as Ryan ran amongst the crowd that was standing at the front of the burning building. It looked like he had found something, but he got disappointed.

I was sitting right inside the bus, with my body covered in a huge blanket.

"You should have some water." One of the nurses who were there handed over a bottle of water to me. I gulped down half of the water in the bottle without a single breath.

"Are you sure you are okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?" The nurse asked, and I just smiled, which indicated I was okay.

My daughter, who was crying, walked up to me with her nanny at her back.

"I thought you were going to die." She said it amid tears. I dropped the bottle of water in my hands and pulled her closer to me, using my thumb to clean her tears.

"Your mother is safe now. Nothing can happen to your mother. You should stop crying." I rubbed her tears, but she still wouldn't stop crying.

I pulled her into my arms and kept on rubbing her back, hoping that would make her stop crying. It did work, but we got interrupted by that hoarse voice, which definitely belonged to Ryan.

"You are not safe anywhere. You need to get to somewhere safe." He interrupted.

"What do you mean by that?" I questioned him, and he then looked at my daughter.

That showed that he couldn't mention it right in front of her.

"Mom! Who is he? Is he that man? The one I saw you with on your phone?" My daughter questioned me with her cute eyes boring into mine.

I wonder how he must have felt knowing I still kept his picture with me.

"Uhmmm..." I tried to find an excuse to come up with, but I ended up chuckling.

"Thank you very much for saving my mom. You are so cute, mister." My daughter complimented Ryan, but he didn't even reply to her or bother to look at her.

"That was so rude!" She shouted right at him, and I saw Ryan's chest moving from the silent laugh. He was trying so hard to hide it. My daughter stormed out of the bus in anger, while her nanny followed her.

I was so happy that something didn't happen to her. I never imagined how I would be able to live without my daughter by my side.

"Let's find somewhere to talk." I managed to come down from the bus. I almost tripped, but he didn't even make any effort to stop me from falling.

"So cruel..." I mumbled as I walked behind him.

One might have imagined that it was someone else who had saved me from that fire.

"What do you mean by nowhere being safe for me?" I inquired as we walked to a more quiet place. He suddenly stopped walking while we got hit by the cool breeze.

"Someone is threatening to kill you." He informed me. That was actually quite surprising. What have I done to deserve that?

"Who? Do you know who the person is? Was it the same person who tried to harm me now?" I stuttered in fear.

"No! The person is after you because she doesn't want the both of us to be together."

"Wait! What? So someone is trying to harm my life because of you?" I spluttered!

Some people are really sick!

"What do you advise I should do then? Stay away from you."

"That would be too late. The person had already made up her mind that she was going to kill you. She couldn't do it last time, and she is currently regretting that fact." He explained.

"Then the only way I can be safe is when I'm with you. Right?" I blurted out, and he then looked at me and looked away immediately.

"I gave it some thought, too. I spoke with your husband, and that was what he suggested." He replied to me, bringing out a stick of cigarettes from its pack and lighting it with a fancy lighter.

"When did you start smoking?" I questioned him, but I got no response from him. He never smoked when I was with him.

"So I will start living with you? Together with my daughter?"

"Yes." He replied with the cigarette smoke coming from his mouth.

"I mean, how will the killer be caught if you don't get to lure them out or something?"

"I am helping you because I feel like I am the one at fault. If you don't want to stay with me for a while, you can go do whatever you like. That would reduce my burden." He walked out of me, throwing away his cigarette.

"That crazy jerk." I mumbled under my breath.

"Ma'am. I was told you should take me to Mr. Ryan's house." A young man interrupted my thoughts. I squinted my face; there was no way I could trust anyone after that, Ryan just told me.

He then brought out his phone and showed evidence. I saw my daughter and her nanny walking towards us. He led us to where his car was.

He worked for Ryan, and he has this fancy car. I guess he must be really important to Ryan, looking at his status.

We all entered the car, and he drove us to Ryan's house. This would be the first time I would be going to his house since we broke up. It was a different house from the one we lived in in the past, though.

*The Next Day*

I was still finding it hard to believe Ryan left me at home when I clearly begged him that I should follow him to the workplace in the morning.

It wouldn't take him anything, and now I came late all because of him. I barged into his office, and he was working on some things on his laptop.

"Good morning, sir." I greeted him, and he then looked at his wrist watch immediately.

"You are 30 minutes late." He acted like he wasn't the one responsible for what happened to me this morning.

"Yes! It turned out someone decided not to give me a ride this morning after I had all hope he was going to give me a ride since we both work for this company." I answered him.

"That's why you shouldn't feel entitled. I won't blame that person, honestly."

"I almost died yesterday, and it was hard for me." I tried to bring up another excuse. Why did I even have to explain myself? What would be my punishment for coming late? Not like he was the one paying me.

"That isn't yet a reasonable excuse for you to come late." He answered me, while my eyes opened in awe.

I almost lost my life!

"He was the one who saved you, dummy!" My subconscious reminded me.

"I am so sorry for offending you."

"You think you are not going to get punished?" He smirked evilly. That surely doesn't mean something good.

"You should leave for now." He dismissed me while I walked out of his office feeling so down. I bumped into a lady on my way to my office, making all her belongings fall down.

"I am so sorry. I am very sorry." She kept on apologizing while she picked up her documents that fell to the floor. I helped her with it as well.

We both stood up at the same time, and I handed over the document to her. We happened to see each other, and she just looked exactly like me.

I was not referring to the resemblance. Her hair, makeup, and shape were just exactly like mine. I looked at her wrist, and it also happened that we have the same tattoo.

What the fuck is this?
