Fire!

Chapter Seven

Ryan's POV.

Diana dropped some reports on my desk. As she turned her back, wanting to walk away, my eyes found their way to her ass. It swung as she walked out of the room.

"What do you think you are doing?" I brought myself back to reality. Why should I be looking at her that way?

It's funny how I haven't had sex with any lady since I got divorced from her. It was quite hard, but I didn't even know why I was restraining myself.

My personal investigator walked in as she was going out.

He greeted her with his head bowed as she walked out of my office. Jesper walked close to my desk and greeted me also. His name was Jesper.

"Did you find anything else?" I questioned him immediately; he was positioned at my front.

"No. I didn't get to find anything out." He answered. I twirled my chair around, thinking about what she told me yesterday.

"You should stop finding out more about her. You should just try your best to keep her safe." I instructed him.

"Alright sir. Her husband also went on a three-month trip. He departed this morning." He added, making me smirk.

It was funny how he didn't even bother to let me know about it, knowing fully well that our company was working on something together. The fact that he was gone now would expose Diana to more danger.

"You know what to do." I dismissed him.

*******

I gulped down one cup of the drink that was right in front of me. I felt like drinking this night. It had been long I've drank.

My phone kept on ringing, but I didn't want to pick it up. This would be the fourth time it would be ringing.

"What if it was an important call?" My subconscious reminded me. I managed to leave the bar section and go to where my phone was.

It turned out that it was Jesper who was calling. Why would he be calling at a time like this?

"What is it?" I shouted in frustration.

"Miss Diana is in danger." He informed me, making me drop the cup filled with wine on the nearest stand.

"What do you mean by that? Why are you calling me? Shouldn't you help her out or something?"

"No! That isn't the case here. Her house is on fire, and she is the only one left inside."

"Why can't they save her? They should..."

"No one could enter anymore. She might get to die at this rate." He interrupted me before I could complete my statement.

I grabbed my car keys and stormed out of the room. My hands were literally shaking. I might hate her as fuck, but there was no way I would leave her to die.

"What do you think you can do? Not even the firefighters could get to walk in and save her." My subconscious questioned me.

I drove to the location that was sent to me by Jesper. I could see the smoke in the sky from a distance. My feet stepped on the accelerator, making the car move way faster.

"Why is he driving so rough?" A girl questioned as I almost hit some people. I reached where the incident was happening in no time.

A lot of people were gathered right at the front of the house, including some reporters. How come they were this fast? The firefighters were doing their work as well.

I rushed down from the car and saw Jesper running towards me.

"Make sure you stop the reporters from publishing any news." I instructed him, while I hastened my steps to the front of the building.

"What do you think you are trying to do? I can't allow you to go in there." Jesper stood at my front, not wanting me to enter the house that was burning.

Some other people wanted to stop me. "Maybe you should have done better work then, and I wouldn't go in. You should have made sure she was safe." I scolded him.

"If you go in, there is a huge chance of you dying." One of the firefighters warned.

I looked back at him and scoffed. "You should risk your life to protect people. That is your work."

"You might need this." He gave her a cloth that was soaked in water. I collected it from him aggressively.

I pushed Jesper off from my front and then entered the house they didn't want me to enter right there. I managed to enter the burning house.

"Diana!" I shouted immediately as I got into the house, using the cloth to cover my nose.

"I am right here!" I heard her screaming. I rushed to where I heard her voice, and she was struggling to survive.

"I need to save my child." She was crying so hard.

"Your child is safe; everyone has been evacuated except you." I tried assuring her. She was coughing so hard that the fumes must have affected her badly.

I just needed to go to the other side to have her in my arms, but there were a lot of wooden doors that were obstructing me from getting in touch with her.

I held the wet cloth in my hands and tried using it to move the door to one side. The fire burned my skin, but I still managed to pull it off.

"What are you doing here?" She said this while coughing. She just came to realize that I was the one who had come to save her.

"This is not the time to ask questions. We need to get out of here first." I made it clear to her. I was not ready to answer her questions.

"Use this." I gave her a wet cloth she could use to cover her nose. She was really weak already, and it was evident.

I carried her in a bridal style while I rushed her out of the house. I was sweating profusely, and she was too.

The fire kept on raining, but we both managed to pull through. I fell to the ground after I came out, and I heard the people who were around applauding.

What were they all clapping for?

"You made it out." Jesper rushed to where I was. The ambulance nurses who were around carried her away from me and took her to the bus.

I looked around and then saw someone in a face cap amongst the crowd. That might be the person who started the fire! The killer would still be around here!
