I follow Taran into the bedroom. He closes and locks the balcony doors. “Why are you locking the doors?” I questioned.

“The wind from the storm will open them if they aren’t bolted. Plus, if the door is open, the sirens take it as an invitation they can join us, and I’m not open to sharing you.” Taran turns to look at me. “Why haven’t you removed your dress yet?”

Slightly joking, I reply, “I thought we could do some hair pulling and light kissing. You know…to get into the mood.”

“I’m already naked,” Taran states.

I nod. I feel so nervous. I haven’t enjoyed sex since I woke up in the pack hospital. Though there are the dreams of Taran, real-life interactions can be much different. I faked it most of the time with Bryan, especially when he tried to dominate me. Something about him being in control felt off-putting.

Taran sits on the side of the bed and motions for me to come to him. Once I’m close enough, he pulls me onto his lap so I’m straddling him. I realize how big and strong Taran

  • The Dragon's Stone   The Spirits of Old/School Trips

In the late 15th century, a human stole the Dragon Stone from my people. For thousands of years, we lived alongside humans. We protected them from the dangers of this world: vampires, demons, werewolves, and other blood-thirsty creatures that would take too long to name. What did they do to thank us for our protection? They stole the source of our power and turned on us.Without the dragon stone, we lost the ability to transform, the ability to wield magic, and our ability to reproduce. The stone was a gift to the first dragon. The story is so old that it is unclear what the sorcerer's name was, but he cursed his former lover after she had an affair. He transformed her into a dragon. It said that she was so heartbroken that she jumped into the water, hoping to drown, but instead found peace in the water.Years later, she surfaced, desperate for human interaction, but found everyone feared her. After trying to kill herself, the sorcerer gifted her with a s

I don’t need to look to know who it is.Turning around, I hand Bryan the money I was going to give to the cashier. His golden eyes stare at me with heartache, “Please, can we just talk, Tru?” I roll my eyes and begin walking away, “Baby, please. I’m sorry. I don’t want to lose you. Please give me a chance to explain. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind last night. The guys were talking about us and how we only know each other. That I won’t have any stories of hooking up with random girls in Europe as they do. My drunk brain made a poor decision.”I pause and turn towards him. We haven’t spoken since this morning when I saw the girl leave. Bryan tried to talk to me, but I couldn’t. Speaking in public will test my ability to be ration

TrudyBritany and I walk down a boardwalk with a few pubs and a popular nightclub. One the way to the club, we pass a fortune-teller stand. “Tru, let’s get our palms read,” Britany tells me excitedly. I shake my head. “Oh, come on, it will be fun. What’s the worse that can happen?”“Look no offense to the teller, but there is no evidence that your palm has anything to do with the outcome of your life. Besides, you’re just inviting bad things to happen when you mess with trying to read the future.”Britany looks at me, surprised, “I didn’t know you were so superstitious.”“I’m not, but things like this give me the creeps.”She sighs, “At least come with me to get mine done. You don’t have to do it.”I nod, and we walk towards the woman’s stand. The sun is starting to set, and it looks like she is closing up the shop. “Hello

TaranI feel a presence nearing me. I’m still in stone, but I can feel myself beginning to wake. The doors creak open, and I hear light footsteps in the room. I can't see, but I can hear and smell. The person who enters is a woman. She’s light on her feet and doesn’t seem to smell like fear, more of curiosity and wonder. Then I smell something else, a wolf. It isn’t her, but she’s close to one. Is she here as a spy? Maybe she knows it’s almost time for me to awaken and hopes to kill me.If that is her plan, she’s in for a surprise. I’m quick and can easily overpower one human before they even know it. My mother and the council turned me to stone to freeze me in time. Being stone should not affect me. I will be in the same shape I was before becoming stone. The woman trips and falls into me. I’m too heavy for her to knock over, but there was a moment I questioned if that is what she was trying to do. Then she

I slowly opened the envelope. There seem to be more pictures of my father, nephews, and brothers. Looking at Taran, I say, “They all seem happy.” There are none of Cindy, but a few with Pat. I guess I did kill Cindy.“They are. Every need they have is met. I have them hidden away on an island not far from here. It is very similar to this one. Your family is safe from all creatures.”“Is my family in danger?” I questioned.Taran shrugs, “They were. Many want to get to you. Some want to kill you, others need you for magic.”“What about you? What do you want with me?” I asked.Taran smirks. “I am the dragon king. You are my destined mate. The only one that can bear me an heir.”“You want to have a baby with me?” I questioned.Taran nods. “I need an heir. You are the only one capable of producing another red dragon.” Taran pauses slightly, then says, “You are welcome to refuse, but my protection of your family and you ends.”“Bryan and his pack will protect me and my family,” I state.Tar

  • The Dragon's Stone   Waking up

My eyes slowly open to find myself on silken sheets in a four-poster bed. A breeze flows into the room, swaying the curtains with the sound of waves crashing on the shore. Double doors to my right are open, leading to a large balcony. There is little furniture in the room other than the bed. On the top of the headboard, there is a carving of two doves and some vines.Sitting up in bed, I realize I’m naked. I use the sheet to cover myself. Looking around, I desperately tried to find my clothes.A noise catches my attention. I look towards the window and see the silhouette of the dragon flying. My heart pounds as I crawl under the bed.I can see the feet of a man as he lands on the balcony. The bed skirt makes me feel slightly hidden, but it also keeps the man’s face hidden from me. He walks into the room and pauses. I heard him walk towards a trunk and open it. Once he closes it, he exits the room. His movements don’t sound rushed or as if he is worried about finding me.I wait and lis

  • The Dragon's Stone   Meeting the other dragons

TaranWe arrive in Scotland after sunrise. Tru has trouble standing. I took the opportunity to look into her mind. It isn’t long before Tru collapses onto the ground. I wanted to check that Orson and Jonat would not find anything.Other dragons begin to arrive. Orson asks, “Your majesty, who is this woman?”“This is the sorceress that brought magic back into the world. The stone, the dragons, nothing would exist without her.” I reply.“Why did you bring her here?” someone asked.I take a deep breath, “The story of dragon mates is true. Not every dragon will have a mate, but those that do will dream about them. Since I awakened, I’ve dreamed about her. When her power fully awakened, the stone called to me. After retrieving the stone, she disappeared. I believe a wolf pack tried to hide her. They feared what would happen to her if a dragon found her.”“King Taran, I believe I should look into her mind, just to know if she is a threat,” Jonat states.“I believe you and Orson both should

They are starting to turn on each other, which is fun for me to watch. Every day that passes, they become more paranoid.Tru seems to be feeling more and more uneasy each day. I am worried about her. I fear that she will try to leave Bryan’s territory. If that happens, I can only hope I get to Tru before the other dragons. In a few days, she will marry Bryan, or that is what the invitation said. Each day it grows closer, Tru becomes anxious. I don’t believe she wants to marry Bryan. It was my hope that things would be ready for her before their wedding, but that is unlikely. In the middle of working on the bench, I get an ache in my chest. Tru must be hurt. I need to find out what is happening to her. I don’t bother saying bye to Brehm or anyone as I fly towards the cave in Scotland. Upon arrival, I shift and head to the temple.O

I can tell that I’m tied to a chair.A figure walks to me, “Tru, just relax. I won’t hurt you.” It’s Bryan. What has he done to me? Why can’t I move? As if he can hear my thoughts, Bryan explains, “Tru, I was worried about you. You caused an earthquake. I didn’t see another option, so I gave you something to paralyze you. You can blink. Once you promise not to hurt anyone and calm down, I will turn off the IV. The medicine should wear off quickly and we can go home. Then, we are setting new ground rules. One is that I will not cheat again if you continue how you’ve acted in the last three months. If you can give me and the pack that level of commitment, then I will never cheat again. The second is that I will cause an accident for Sarah. I’d rather do it after the baby because I need an heir, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes for
