A shudder of fear went through her. She ensured to keep her gaze on the floor but his hand forcefully held her chin with his hand and made her look up at him through the tiny nets of her black veil, while his claws dug lightly into her skin.

From the corner of her eyes, she could see him set down his goblet to pull off her veil. Her big brown eyes widened with fear, and she tried to pull away but his tight grip.

The giggling of the women sitting at his feet, filled her ears along with Oana’s whisper for her to just obey and submit to the Alpha’s actions.

He yanked the veil from her face and tossed the small piece of cloth to the floor. Their gaze met, and immediately a ringing sound filled her ears.

A kind of rage rushed through her veins and suddenly, she wasn't on her knees anymore, instead she was on her feet, unstable though as it felt like the dining room was spinning around her.

She blinked, just at the moment to catch a glimpse of Ikrus’s glare as he took Arlo from Oana.

The kiss was short-lived. He pulled away from her immediately. Aniya could not speak after that, her tongue felt too heavy to be moved for a speech. Her heart was racing and that feeling was spreading through her veins once again. Her hand slipped to a part of her neck that suddenly felt too sensitive for anything. There was something strange about this bite. It had healed quickly, yet the scars weren't showing signs of ever fading away, but that wasn't just it, a strange feeling seemed to be attached with the mark too. That strange feeling was connected to Ikrus. He gave her this mark. He had done something to her. She would have to find out how she could get rid of it. It was starting to make her lose her mind and she was afraid that if she lingered, she would completely lose it by the time this “thing” would take over her. He probably injected a love potion into her skin using his teeth, even that was more logical than this stupid mate concept he was always telling her about

Darkness. It was all they could see. There was nothing before them, nothing behind, nothin above and nothing below. It was like they were in a void, not falling any longer, just hovering in mid air. Flames emerged from the fingertips of Alaris’s hand but they disappeared as quickly as they appeared, like a great wind that easily snuffed off a candle. Only that the wind didn't exist here. Here, there was nothing… but them. Alaris tried again but the same thing happened. The third time also led to failure but this time around, there was something else. He could sense it. A presence. He pulled Belladonna closer, ensuring that his hold around her was secured. “I hate invisible things.”“At least now you know how I felt,” she whispered back. “That was for your benefit, Nightshade. If not, my beauty would have captured your heart, there would be none left for your poor Eli.”Swoosh!Something she passed. Belladonna trembled lightly in his hands. “We are not alone,” she whispered,

“My sincerest apologies for the necessary pain.” Gaya’s voice echoed in their ears. Belladonna straightened up, the pain now little tingles on her veins. Her attention was drawn to the part of her arm that still hurt the most. Carved into her skin was a Sandglass, illuminating with different colors. The upper part was filled with sand, stagnant, while the lower part was absolutely empty. Alaris pulled her to him immediately, standing in front of her once again, before he could speak his words of rage fully, Gaya spoke. “HOW DARE—”“The map will show you the way and the Sandglass is there to reveal how much time you have left. Only the one connected with the Gem can take it, but you both can see the map.”From behind, Belladonna could see the golden, almost-transparent scroll hanging in the air. The map had different detailed images on it, along with the names of these places. “If the bracelet is lost, then only he will be able to tell the way.”From where Belladonna was standing,

Trigger warning - Slight violence, blood. ______Aniya backed away, her eyes searching the room quickly for anything that could save her and her child from this beast that was determined to kill them. The wolf matched her pace and with each step she took, it got closer. Her hand grabbed something and she tossed it far away from them, urging the wolf to go after it, hoping to distract it. That didn't work. Instead, it seemed to have only gotten the wolf angrier. In a flash, it lurched at them. She screamed, racing towards the door but she never made it. The weight of the beast knocked her to the ground, and she turned to look death in the face as the wolf revealed its canines to rip her apart. But a rope, glowing with white light, latched around the wolf’s neck and yanked it backwards, pulling it off her enough for her to escape. Now faced with a new enemy, the beast turned to the intruder and she bolted away, stumbling slightly as rushed into the adjoining room and slammed the d

He stood in the doorway, with a sack in one hand, blood dripping from it. “Ikrus—” The man in front of her started to say but Ikrus turned away, he ripped the door out of its hinges and left. Stupid man. He could have just used the key. Before the man in front of her would decide to go after Ikrus, considering that it looked like they knew each other, Aniya stopped him with her words. “He was the beast, he attacked me! Please, you have to help me out of here. He would kill us next time. Have mercy on my child.”“It was a mistake. Please, forgive him. It will not happen again.”By Ignas, what stupid— she would have to try something else!“Who were those? The ones that attacked us.” There was a woman among the attackers. She needed to know if the woman was alive or if the earring she had with her was useless. “Some of the Alpha’s men.”Well, that was a general term. “They were all dead.” She patted Arlo shakily. “Male, female, their faces—” “Female? Ikrus said they were all male.

They seemed to slack, droop further to the ground than they should— they looked nothing like she had ever seen them look before. “They are there,” she managed to say, her breath sharp and loud. “All we need is some healing herbs.”His laughter dragged, rage boiling in his voice. “I will never be able to fly again.” Then abruptly, he shouted. “WHAT KIND OF KING—”Horror washed over his face and the rage in his eyes disappeared. “Nightshade, You idiot!” He stood up abruptly, pulling her by her wrist. “How dare you let yourself get hurt like this? Are you stupid?”She frowned and yanked her wrist away from him. “I’m alright!”He grabbed her wrist once again. “You are bleeding too much to be alright.”He said it like she was a ghastly sight but that wasn't how she felt at all. With Belladonna's absolute trust in Alaris, he led the way.At the point where the road splitted into two, there was a metal rod with a board of the names of the two pathways, carved into it. Where the road was buried into the ground, laid a beast. It had taken Alaris sometime to kill it but he did and it instantly turned into ashes after. They both agreed that for the next turning point, Alaris would go first just in case there was a beast lying in wait for them. Belladonna was useless in combat and she would only slow things down than help out. As they journeyed deeper in their search, things got worse. Every fruit they came across turned into ashes once they touched it, giving off a rotten smell as they vanished. The land was dry and any hopes of running into any body of water was lost. Water, food and healing herbs. The Tree of Life promised all that and in Alaris’ mind, he could see the dire ruins that would lead them there. However, the tree was too far and in the state th

His hand moved lower, hovering over her face with a distant twinkle in his mismatched eyes, before he pulled away and laughed. “This would be so much fun if Eli was here. I would still want to kill him but it would be fun. I’m angry that he died too early for me to make him wash my feet. What I would give to see the look in his eyes when I force him to wash my jars of hearts and rearrange them.” He frowned. “How dare Death steal my servant from me?“Your servant?” She chuckled. “Don't worry, we’ll get him back. So many years of servitude awaits him once I become King. He is being delusional if he thinks he can die and escape it. I shall have my revenge.” Well, Alaris was starting to sound more like himself. At least, one of them was living with this. The pain felt too deep, a hole in her heart and one in her womb.It would forever remain empty.“You are insane.” She wiped her tears away as they streamed down her face and she rested her head against him once again. “My deepest gra

“What is this?” Ny'ka asked, racing up to her feet.“The Stones of Prophecy. I already told you,” Ka'el replied, rising to his feet too. He groaned a little, his ribs hurting from the force that had tossed him aside. The stones had suddenly fallen to the ground, scattered; they were still glowing though. “I mean, what do they do?“I don't know!” There was a bit of panic in his voice, then he started to mumble to himself as he fell on his knees and started trying to collect the stones. “The King believes his daughter is in the Rebellion, and there are rumors of the Heir; he thinks they are working together.” He stopped and stared up at Ny'ka who watched him with a frown on her face. “That is why the Moon and the Sun came up in the sky because she is really here? But you said it didn't happen here, that it was from another Realm. It is from another realm, right? It isn’t true, Is it?”Ny'ka tried to grab one of the stones from Ka'el but it held it away from her. “Is his daughter truly

Then she felt like she was drowning and her words vanished from her lips. It felt like she was right in the lake and above it at the same time, hovering over the water and looking at the drowning child, while the drowning child looked back at her, struggling. Then she was finally in the baby and she could see Xinora floating over her as she felt herself dying in the baby — felt the baby dying. She saw Xinora stare right at her mother, who froze immediately like she had seen a ghost - it was what she looked like anyway, what she seemed to be. Then Belladonna felt the presence slam right into her immediately. Xinora had vanished and was now inside her as one being, the moment of her almost death creating the perfect space for Xinora to fit in. But just as Xinora had merged into her, she dissolved into the back of her mind like a mere pest fighting against a strong host. Her mother pulled her out of the water, her gaze blank and cold. Without a word, she wrapped her in a piece of clo

Two nights have passed since Alaris and her had discussed about Xinora. The Rebellion was healing, and she had sought out Ny'ka to help her with creating portals; although she knew that it might not work, just as it hadn't been working, but that was just how unpromising Channeling had been, and it had worked eventually. That wasn't the problem though. The thing was that Ny'ka was nowhere to be found. It didn't take long for her to figure out where she was.She was with Ka'el, most likely inquiring about their recent failure.Alaris had confirmed her suspicion, and here she was, in the room, trying not to drive herself mad with every single possibility that was crossing her mind. The Priest had drawn a tattoo on the top part of her chest, a little distance from her neck. He had smeared it with the blood of an animal, chanted some things th

Ny'ka went to Ka'el that night as the Heir had ordered, only to find out that he was with someone. Tsiri? What? What was she doing here? Why was she here? How long has she known about Ka'el? How did she get here? Why was she here?By Ina, what had she told him?!The White glow of the crescent moon above glimmered down on them through the shadows of the scanty leaves of the tall trees around them. The smile on Tsiri’s face was plain for Ny'ka to see, just as obvious as the doubt that dotted Ka’el’s eyes. What had she told him?!“Is it true?” Ka'el asked, his fist tightening around the small bag he had in his hand. She wondered what was in that bag but his next words made her aware of the greater problem she had before her. “Are you just fooling me?” He asked as his free hand anchored around Tsiri’s waist, making her smile widen. Disappointment flashed in Ny'ka's eyes and she frowned, blatantly ignoring Tsiri. “Fooling you? What nonsense are you talking about? And why are you with o

“Nightshade, do you have any memories of Jyris?”He was crouching in front of her. This room suddenly felt too small. Where was the air of ease?“No, except that he healed my ankle, gave me that gold ring that you tossed away and he was at the table with the King. Nothing else. I’m trying to but I don't remember anything else.” She wouldn't tell him about the strange feeling of familiarity she had when she had first seen him. That would be too dangerous. “You were in her dreams even when you weren't in captivity. So can you just go into people's dreams? Can you still do that?”“No. Her dream was the only one I could get into without being in captivity. But My freedom does come at a price. It was hard to lure the brides with my soul, and certainly, I prefer this freedom to that.”“Did killing her hurt you? Since the gems are supposed to be a pair.”“I struck her stomach.”“Why didn't you strike her in the heart or behead?”“I wanted to behead her and take her heart as my own; a litt

He heaved a sigh and sat next to her. “Well, it was after being King. I think the wars I had fought strengthened the connection with my gem; the lives I had taken fed it, and I dreamt of Xinora — well, she dreamt of me. It was the first time I would be in anyone's dreams.”Belladonna nodded, taking a mental note of that. “She was crying and lonely, and because the Gem perceived its master to be distressed, it sought a connection and found me. Xinora was terrified when we met; I was confused, too; it was strange. But then, I realized who she was and why I was there. At that time, I really wanted to come back here, to Vestros, but I knew it wasn’t time, I wasn't powerful enough back then.” He paused, before he continued. “The White King would kill me easily, but being in her dreams was like fate being on my side. She was the only weapon that could be used to kill me—”The only weapon?“Wait. Only a Bearer can kill a Bearer?”“Yes.” “So,” she turned to him squarely so she wouldn't mi

A new Master, her time was over, gone. The gems will always have their masters, I have discovered. At first, I was worried, but then you proved to be more than one with a mere link.”“I had visions of her. I told you everything.”He shrugged. “I thought it was just her lingering presence since she was the one who was connected to the gem before you. They are just mere visions, they don't suggest a powerful presence to get bothered about.”“You must be joking,” she stated, flabbergasted. “I had dreams of her every time and nothing ever really happened as a result,” he replied with a dismissive tone.“You know that is not true.”“Nothing “real” ever really happened.”With a realization, she stood up. “You are doing it aga

It felt compelling to desire more, it felt right… yet it didn't.Alaris pulled away being the first one to snap back from the spark pulling them together. “I’m sorry, I shouldn't have done that.” He was gone in a flash, leaving her flustered. She couldn't think; the foreign and overpowering feeling was a driving force that sent her out of the room to go after him. She did, reaching the surface, however, and feeling the warm glow of the moon on her skin. Something else seemed to have possessed her, and she went towards the lake instead, strangely seeking the comforting feeling of the water and the floating relief. The reflection of the full moon was cast over the still water and the trees seemed to create a path for her. She walked into the water as a shadow warrior emerged from behind her; the only one of Alaris' shadow warriors that wasn't killed. It swiftly moved into the water, reaching out to pull her back but she turned sharply to it. “Go Back!” She ordered, her voice a gr

I might have been a King there but here, I am like a child. I’m not better than any of those dragon shifters. I’m useless.” “You are not.”With a huff, he sat down next to her, feeling exhausted. “My pretense to know what I am doing can no longer save me. I’m fighting a lost war, Nightshade and you can see it.”He turned to her, to find her shaking her head. “Don't lie to me.”“I’m not.”“Alaris—”“Don't try to inspire me, it won't work.” “I wasn't trying to inspire you, I just want to tell you how disap
