With Belladonna's absolute trust in Alaris, he led the way.

At the point where the road splitted into two, there was a metal rod with a board of the names of the two pathways, carved into it. Where the road was buried into the ground, laid a beast. It had taken Alaris sometime to kill it but he did and it instantly turned into ashes after.

They both agreed that for the next turning point, Alaris would go first just in case there was a beast lying in wait for them. Belladonna was useless in combat and she would only slow things down than help out.

As they journeyed deeper in their search, things got worse. Every fruit they came across turned into ashes once they touched it, giving off a rotten smell as they vanished.

The land was dry and any hopes of running into any body of water was lost.

Water, food and healing herbs.

The Tree of Life promised all that and in Alaris’ mind, he could see the dire ruins that would lead them there.

However, the tree was too far and in the state th

His hand moved lower, hovering over her face with a distant twinkle in his mismatched eyes, before he pulled away and laughed. “This would be so much fun if Eli was here. I would still want to kill him but it would be fun. I’m angry that he died too early for me to make him wash my feet. What I would give to see the look in his eyes when I force him to wash my jars of hearts and rearrange them.” He frowned. “How dare Death steal my servant from me?“Your servant?” She chuckled. “Don't worry, we’ll get him back. So many years of servitude awaits him once I become King. He is being delusional if he thinks he can die and escape it. I shall have my revenge.” Well, Alaris was starting to sound more like himself. At least, one of them was living with this. The pain felt too deep, a hole in her heart and one in her womb.It would forever remain empty.“You are insane.” She wiped her tears away as they streamed down her face and she rested her head against him once again. “My deepest gra

“Be at ease, Aniya. I understand how you feel but I didn't tell my brother anything. Why would I? I was trying to help you.”It took a couple of exchanges of harsh words before Aniya finally gave up on fighting and started begging her to help her get to her son.“He has taken my son away from me. Please help me get my son back.” After all, she was the Princess; she should be able to command some power like Ikrus could, maybe, if not totally, at least to some extent. But the look in Oana's brown eyes held no promise.Could she not do anything about it?Instead of talking about how they could rescue her son from that evil monster she called a brother, Oana inquired about the condition of her legs while she laid down a sack of healing medicine and materials. She pushed her to her bed and started tending to her feet. Aniya sprung up. “Can you not hear me? My son is out there—”“My brother will not hurt him. He is your mate, he is like a father to him.”Father? That was something Aniya

His words were so illogical!Must she die because he was about to become a sacrifice at the North Border?! Why was she supposed to be affected by him?“Why can't I go to the Temple and stay with my son? Isn't the Priest your friend?” Maybe he was the man who came to save her from his attack two days ago. It seemed like it. He had spoken like a Priest. “I can stay there till you return.”“And if I don't.”What if he dies at the North Border? Well, that should be his concern and not hers? There was no connection that necessitated them being together or that made the death of one, the death of the other between them, except that silly Matebond he was always talking about. It was a stupid thing, just like she had always said, and his actions were proving it. If it was as important as he had claimed it to be, he wouldn't be proposing to kill her like he was offering her meat at a discounted price in a market. He wouldn't be telling her of how butchering her was a favour! This Realm was

Alaris returned at that moment.“There isn't a beast anywhere close by. We are safe here—” He paused, noticing that her wounds had healed. That was something they were both happy about. They ate their fill from the tree and decided to take some fruits with them on their journey. The effects of the fruits were different on both of them though - it didn't heal Alaris’ wings, not any of his lingering cuts. Alaris didn't want to waste time feeling sad about that, he wanted them to continue their journey and get out of here as soon as they could. This Garden was cursed, and the thought of being forced to be with a Star-Headed creature just didn't please him at all.Ugly fucking being!“We have to go.” “I am so thirsty, I wish there was water here somewhere that I could drink. I thought this place had a river on the map, where has it gone?” Belladonna asked, exhausted. Her wounds were now healed, and she felt better, but thirst was thirst. As soon as she said the last word, a gust of

The Dragon’s Realm (The Main Hideout)_____Nyka stumbled into this section of the cave, the sword she had in her hand, dragging against the cage floor and laced with dried-up blood, just as her clothes were stained with the red liquid in too many places than she could count. Her wild curly red hair had managed to slip out of the tight hold she had put it in during the battle. Her fangs extended over her lips, her claws long and sharp. Each breath she took was heavy and filled with rage. There had been an attack in one of their hideouts today, if not for the help that she had received, they would have lost more people than they did. More than they would even be able to count. It was like an ambush. The White King must be finding them more than just a mere inconvenience now. He was paying them more attention than he usually would. If only the people hadn't slacked off in their training due to the false saviour’s brief yet mighty negative impact, they wouldn't have lost anyone. Al

Belladonna's eyes widened and she tried to swim back to the surface in fear but in a second, she was surrounded by the sirens. Her eyes darted around quickly and she turned to the one that seemed to be leading them. It was a different one from the siren that held Alaris captive. This one looked older, while the one who held Alaris as her captive was behind her. Their leader stretched out her hand and Belladonna squinted her eyes before a realization hit her.A trade! They wanted a trade. By Ignas, what could she trade? Her eyes moved to the bracelet on her wrist but that was made out of Alaris’ soul. She didn't want to give them that, afraid that they might use it to control him or do something worse. Then she took off the rig Eli had given to her and stretched it to them instead. That was of a lot of value to her and it felt painful to part with it, but she knew they wouldn't accept anything worthless to begin with. It had to be something that held much importance. Also, she st

That had been hours ago. Now, they were at the Selection Ground, watching as different lycans tore at each other with their claws and canines while they were seated on the stone bleachers. The moon stood full in the sky tonight. There were torches at strategic points so that they could see everything happening between the barricaded space below where the warriors were fighting. Oana made sure Aniya sat down right next to her. Some of Oana’s friends were there too but this time, none regarded her with disrespect, not even the one she had been introduced to on that day. Instead they just decided to speak in their language and not talk to her. Aniya was grateful for that, she had no time for frivolous discussions. The seating arrangement on the stone bleachers was according to status. At least, it seemed like it. At the top was the Alpha’s seat which was empty. Then a seat lower was the Luna’s seat. She looked elegant in her blue silk dress, like a beautiful and gentle goddess hers

“I am no traitor!” Ikrus yelled as different guards rushed up to him to capture him. A guard next to the Alpha yelled.“The Alpha was attacked tonight and the captured traitors declared that they were receiving orders from you, Gamma.”“That is a lie!” Ikrus spoke up, enraged. Aniya looked from father to son. The tension that grew thick in the air felt suffocating. She could feel her hope spilling through her fingers like sand.“To the dungeon.” The Alpha ordered and this time when the guards took Ikrus away, he didn't fight them. Not once did Ikrus look at her while he was taken away to the dungeon. Oana begged for her father to stop them but he didn't listen. While Aniya watched all this, everything suddenly became a distant echo and a realization washed over her like cold water. This was a trap, one that the Alpha made for his son. He didn't want him to participate in the hunt because he knew he would win, and he didn't want him to win because he knew he would request for som

Her stomach rumbled, but it was quiet, and for the sake of her dignity, she hoped that he hadn't heard it. “You don't need the sun, you need food; I know a place.”“Get out of my sun.”“I’ll take you there.” Quickly she was on her feet, his arm along her waist to keep her stable. “Are you even listening or are you just deliberately ignoring me?”“Deliberately ignoring you.” “What? I expect the elderly to behave with more sense,” she jabbed, annoyed with his interference. “There are no elderly here.”In a flash, he is with Arlo. Then before she could tell, they were before a table that must have been prepared for them only moments ago. She was dizzy from the speed but the lovely aroma in the air could not be mistaken; there was food here. She felt Ikrus push her into a chair and she took her seat, blinking to regain her stability and clear vision. When she finally did, she looked around. They were in a kind of glass room with flowers on the ceiling. The table before her was smal

She cleared her throat, changing the topic. “Is my age a problem for you, Ikrus?”He sucked in a deep breath, looking away, still thinking about why he had brought her and Arlo here - still trying to figure out his thoughts. “No. I was merely surprised, that is all.” “I’m not bothered either.” She leaned closer to him, a hair’s breadth between them, catching him off guard with her action. “Don’t worry,” she skimmed her fingers over his hair and he stilled, forcing himself not to move as more of her fragrance consumed his air. “I have always fancied old men.”What?!Old men?!Old men where?!“I’m not old,” he said, clearly offended. “You are thirty-two,” she said as she lay down and closed her eyes. “Exactly. I am not old.”She felt his shadow over her and she sighed, wanting the warmth of the sun on her skin once again. “You are thirty-two… and blocking the sun.”“That is not old at all.” He sounded like he was losing his mind, but his voice was leveled. She turned to him sharply, wheels turning dangerously in her head already to come up with a lie, her lungs clogging with fear, only for her to discover that he wasn't looking at her but at someone else. “Look! Arlo is walking!” He declared in hushed excitement. Aniya rolled her eyes, taking a deep breath of relief, tucking away the poison bottle. He didn't catch her, she could still kill him. “Arlo can walk.”“For long distances like that?” He turned to her, surprised. “Yes.”“Oh.”“In fact, we must redesign the room to accommodate him. He keeps on trying to pull things down.”Ikrus frowned. In a flash, he was holding Arlo who was strongly protesting against being held. He certainly wanted to play on the ground. “How old is the little one?”“Arlo,” she said, emphasizing his name, subtly ensuring that he wouldn't call him “little one” again, “will be two soon.”Ikrus nodded, taking the information in as he easily moved Arlo from one hand to another in his struggle to get down. “H

Aniya told her about the strange lily she found in her coin bag while telling her how she had come by it, although leaving out part of the poison, while watching to see if the witch had told Oana about what she was searching for. It didn't seem like the witch told her anything. “I have seen something like that in my room before,” Aniya said. “I’m scared of what it means and I am afraid—” she looked over to Arlo for the umpteenth time, “of harm coming to Arlo or me.” Oana was very concerned and she said she would tell the Alpha and Luna about it so that they could give orders for the Pack House to be thoroughly searched. Then Aniya asked, “What about last night? Why did the sun suddenly come up and merge with the moon?” She rushed to the window. “Everything seems normal now.”“Elder Superior said it was a result of something that happened in another realm. It is none of our concern; our Realm stays unaffected, and all the portals remain sealed.” Aniya panicked.Another realm? Wha

That night, after they had both eaten, Alaris took Belladonna to a nearby river, where a burning incense was placed on a leaf pad to float away. “It is to let go of the past and begin anew,” he has explained. It was something that helped Belladonna even though she hadn't known she needed it. Her heart felt lighter and with a more positive perspective, she left the river bank. The Belarion Rebellion and the rest of the Cave had fully returned now. Shortly after, Belladonna and Alaris started trying to create the army. They were once again under an open sky. Nyka watched from a distance, just like every one of the dragon people had been advised to do. Her father was right next to her, he wasn't supposed to be here. He was still injured from the torture he had received from the White King’s warriors that had captured him but he was terrified that if he as much took a step from her, the Heir would seize her and kill her. “What do I do?” Belladonna asked, trying to shake off the press

[LYCANS’ REALM]The coins vibrated on the floor, clanking as they added to the slight trembling she could feel around her. Aniya’s heart jumped. Quickly, she dashed to her bed and grabbed Arlo, taking him swiftly into her arms. She could hear a bell ringing from a distance. Voices of terrified people seeping into the air, even with her ordinary human hearing, the building chaos felt loud to her. What was going on? Before she could make it out of the room, though, she felt someone sweep her away, and in a flash, she was in an enclosed space, an arm around her, so that she held Arlo between them. She knew it was Ikrus; with such speed and the feeling of momentarily ease that went through her, it could be no one else. She hated the Matebond for many things but for this little ease that she could feel right now, she appreciated it a little. Even if this relief was a lie that everything was alright, it was better than the sheer terror she had been experiencing. The rumbling continued,

Finally, they were under an open sky.The Moon was full in its glory above them. “It is a perfect night,” Ny'ka said before intertwining her with Belladonna's.“Close your eyes.”She obeyed. “Think of the Bearer, of her grave, of her presence, and connect with her.”The Bearer. Belladonna allowed her mind to roam, remembering the silver-haired woman she would always dream about. She had never seen her face so there was no way she could see that. The image was blurry and soon it was nothing but darkness. “Open the windows, open the door,” she could hear Alaris' voice. Then she remembered her way of sealing the windows and the doors of her mind. So many things were happening in her mind. She could see the path to the castle, down to that room, to that sarcophagus, Then she was back in that room again - with the windows sealed and the doors locked. There was a white beam outside the window and a woman with long silver hair that shadowed her face.“Open the doors and the windows!”

“Don't kill me please, I believe now. You are the Heir, you are the savior. I see it.” Ny'ka begged. They were in one of the underground rooms, away from the people of the Belarion Rebellion and those of the Cave. This was something Alaris didn't want many to know about.“Please, take my life instead and spare my daughter,” Leader Tyrek begged. He knew what crimes Nyka had committed, the Priest told him everything.“You tried to kill me,” Alaris said to Ny'ka who was still on her knees, begging, tears running down her cheeks.“It was a mistake. It won't happen again.”Alaris smiled. “It won't.”He held her wrist and pulled her up, but while he did that, he crushed her bones, and pressing his flames into her skin, he healed her, just like he had seen it happen with Nightshade and that stranger in the Castle during their escape. It was an excruciating moment for Ny'ka and it didn't help that he did it again and again and again…By the time he was done, she was back on her knees, breat

The moment the ambush came upon them, some guards had taken Ny'ka and discreetly escaped from the scene. They were headed to the White King’s Castle to be highly rewarded for bringing to him the daughter of the leader of the revolution against him. They were supposed to take Leader Tyrek along too, but it seemed the guards who had him in captivity had been attacked. There would be much to tell the King upon getting to the castle. While they silently snuck away, Ny'ka found a way to free herself from the bondage and attacked them. She would rather die than have them take her alive; it was looking like that was the only option for her until she felt she had until Alaris' showed up. He descended from the sky with his massive leathery wings and he saved her; he killed the guards and swept her up into the air in his arms. In that moment, she saw what the others saw in him. A saviour. In that moment, something changed. “You saved me,” she said, the wind almost stealing her words away
