Zayden
I looked from the trunk of the minivan and back at my secretary. For the first time in my life I was dumbfounded. I had no words. I looked over to the driver. “ I swear on my grandma, sir, I have no hand in this.” He spoke. I looked over at Mr. Ace. She shifted uncomfortably on her feet, pouting her lips. I honestly did not know whether to be angry or not. She had just spent thousands of dollars on food stuffs that were enough to throw a party. The groceries ranged from all kinds of fruits to cereals, snacks, rice, pastries, fruit drinks and even wine. I ran a hand through my hair in frustration. Maybe I should have just laid her off and saved myself the trouble. The only reason I gave her my credit card was to appease my conscience for yesterday. “Mrs. Ace, please tell me that you at least got yourself more than one dress”. I sighed. “I thought you said just one blazer for the conference”. She whined. I only stared at her. A mixture of unknown emotions swirling through my chest. She was totally unbelievable. “ Just.....just go back to work ". I told her. “I'm…. I'm sorry “. She whispered, turning on her heels and heading into the elevator. I only sighed and followed her back to my office, hopefully my day wouldn't get worse. But it did because while I was busy working with Mrs. Ace behind her desk, My so-called brother barged into my office like he owned the place. “ What's up my dearly beloved brother!” He exclaimed, throwing a glance at Mrs. Ace behind her desk. The memory of yesterday came flooding back into my head. Aiden had never visited our mother since her funeral so finding him there was absurd. “What do you want ?” I asked plainly. Him coming here meant he was here for trouble, and I've had enough trouble the past few days. He stood in front of my desk, eyeing me. “ Just because father was pleased with your presentation today doesn't guarantee your stay behind this desk.” I relaxed further into my chair. I was already used to his confrontation whenever he failed to surpass me. “It wasn't my fault you couldn't impress him”. I retorted. I saw the flash of anger in his eyes and the clenching of his jaw. “You can't and would never be able to compete with me. So why don't you lie low and enjoy the privileges you have now. I hate that we looked alike. I hate that we had so much striking resemblance that you wouldn't be able to tell us apart. The only difference between us was that I was a bit taller. We looked alike yet shared nothing in common. He suddenly smiled, displaying his white set of teeth.” Happy birthday brother, even if it's coming late." I tensed, my knuckles tightening into a fist. Him of all people knew how much I hated to be remembered on the day I was born. “I actually came to give you this.” He placed a box wrapped in a white ribbon on the desk and shoved it towards me. “ It's a gift for your birthday, even if you don't deserve to have one." I remained silent, trying to calm my raging nerves. We were not alone in the office, Mrs. Ace was here. I so badly wanted to punch him in the face and maybe break his jaw. Maybe add more scars to the one he had on his face . “It's you who should be in that box, you should be six feet below, not her !” He had amusement in his eyes. “Get out” I simply told him. "You won't stay here for long, Zay, I'll make sure of that even if I die trying." “ Then I'll be happy to be at your funeral, now leave my office."I snarled, raising my voice a little. He smirked before turning away. He didn't leave immediately, he went over to Mrs. Ace, which only angered me more. I suddenly had the urge to drag him out of the office myself, but I remained seated. He remained there for a few minutes discussing with her. He must have said something funny because she had laughed, something she had never done with me around. Her smile didn't fade away even until he finally left the office. I gritted my teeth as I stared at the box in front of me. I initially wanted to toss it in the trash can but changed my mind. Aiden does things like this to piss me off. The last time he gave me a gift, it was a bloodied photo of me and my mum. He had soaked my photo in pig's blood and wrapped it in a nice box. I finally opened the box, to find a necklace inside. My mother's necklace. At least there wasn't pig's blood on this one. I took a deep annoying breath to calm myself, soon after I returned to work completely forgetting about Aiden. Mrs. Ace came up to me a minute later, her face devoid of every emotion. Where did all that smile earlier go? “ Umm, you have a phone call, sir." “ Is it urgent?” I asked, not bothering to look in her direction. “ I think so." I sighed. “ What's it about?” “Your presence is needed in the boardroom”. She told me. “Cancel it! ” I told her. I wasn't in the mood for any meeting right now. Not only that, but I was still pissed and didn't want to end up venting my anger on others. “But ….” I glared at her. She flinched and returned to her desk. I finally had my undisturbed peace back. The all too familiar clacking of heels filled my ears the next second. I'm groaning. The fact that I'll have to deal with people was annoying. Helena came rushing in, looking like she had run all the way here. “Mr. Kent !” I finally snapped. “ What !” She paused, clearing her throat. “ Your father wants to see you ." “ Tell him I'm busy !” “ He's really mad .....like really mad." “ So ?” She came closer, glancing over at Mrs Ace before lowering her voice to speak." I think the contract was canceled." My eyes widened. That was impossible. The presentation went well yesterday and everything was concluded, so this can't be true. “ How .......the contract was closed yesterday." “I don't know, but it seemed there were some issues. Your father is really pissed. I heard him saying that he should have let Aiden handle the presentation. I gritted my teeth. I had a bad feeling that Aiden's sudden visit earlier wasn't just a simple visit. Not only that, but I should have expected this. Everything went too smoothly yesterday. Aiden doesn't back down without a fight. I just hoped he doesn't have a hand in this, if not, then I wouldn't let this one slide, not even for our father. I had millions of dollars on the line and this wasn't his first attempt at running my contracts or partnership with other companies. Maybe this was what Mr. Ace wanted to tell me. Clenching my fists I stood up. “ Where ?" " The boardroom". I just hoped I didn't find Aiden there, or I might actually make him kiss my fists.Zayden As I stepped into the boardroom, my father was tapping his fingers on the table impatiently, with Aiden beside him. There were two other board members in the room, and I hoped that the issue hadn't reached their ears. "You called for me?" I asked directly, skipping all formalities. My father slid a file over to me. "What's this nonsense, Zayden." He said with a tone of disapproval. It was the contract I signed with a neighbouring company just yesterday, and now they wanted to terminate it. I tried maintaining a straight face, but I was taken aback. "This is not possible," I said. "I received complaints, Zayden, and I didn't like what I heard . Since when did you become so incompetent? " He raised his voice, expressing disappointment in my work. I gritted my teeth trying to stay calm. "Enlightenment me ". " The presentation you made yesterday doesn't align with what's written here. Lillian I couldn't believe what was happening. I was in the bathroom, dealing with unexpected menstrual cramps. I usually get these cramps before my period, but this time, I ignored the signs, attributing the pain to hunger because I hadn't eaten a good breakfast. I was panicking because I had stained my underwear and was trying to clean it with soap and water. I wrapped a towel around my body and started pacing, feeling the heavy flow. I knew I couldn't ask Helena for the bathroom earlier before Mr. Kent returned; she had been giving me dirty looks. My only hope was rushing home but now that was out of the option. I spend the next thirty minutes thinking of what to do. My underwear was bloodied and I just finished washing it. Thankfully there are no noticeable stains on my dress. Just as I was pacing, I felt a warm liquid trail down my thighs. I looked down, I had to cover my mouth to stifle my sob. I usually have a heavy flow, and at this rate, I'll get the white towe
Lillian "I'm having a flow, the type that happens monthly." I said clearing my throat not to look awkward. He dipped his hands in his pockets, straightening his stance. " You'll have to use more words, Mrs Ace ." I swallowed ,wishing the ground would open up and swallow me. " And please get up from the floor!" He scolded. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't because I was a thousand per cent sure that the white towel was stained. From the pain in my lower abdomen, I could tell I was leaking like my kitchen sink ."I...I...can't ". " You can't?... Mrs ace, do I have to remind you that we have a lot of work to do ?" I looked up to meet his stare; our eyes locked for a moment until his eye trailed down to my chest. I did my best to assume that he didn't just look at my boobs." You don't understand, I really can't ". I told him, a worried expression plastered on my face. "Then make me understand and do it quickly!" His eyes were still on my boobs. How can he still keep a
Zayden I was beginning to think maybe I should just dismiss her. Dealing with women was more exhilarating than with men. If I hadn't knocked then she probably wouldn't have come out. Even now she still had spent almost 10mins in the bathroom. I sighed heavily and set myself to work. I'll just lay the groundwork today and then begin properly tomorrow. And that's why I need extra hands, editing the template wouldn't be easy. Just then, she finally came out of the bathroom. The image of her wrapped in my towel suddenly flashed before my eyes. I had to shake my head to clear my mind of those thoughts. Standing in front of me, fidgeting with her dress, she spoke, " Umm, Mr Kent, thank you for the umm....stuff". My eyes went to her chest, something I found hard to stop doing since I saw her cleavage. "Get to work, start with editing the files I sent to you !" I said coldly. She stood there for a while before turning to walk away but paused. "Umm, is it alright to ask
Lillian There was no way I'd back down. One thing I hate is being aware of something bad and doing nothing about it. And now this jerk of a boss was too hard-headed to listen to opinions from others. I had to hold my breath as he cornered me. "You're saying that I made a mistake?" His voice was hoarse. I had to turn my face sideways or I would feel his breath on my face. "You're not Jesus, Mr Kent. So, yes you made a mistake". I told him.I could feel the anger emanating from him." If you'll just hear me out maybe you'll understand why you'll get rejected." I watched him grit his teeth, struggling to make a decision. "Fine, but if this proves to be a waste of time then you're fired ".I raised my chin, confident of what I was doing, or at least I thought so.He finally stepped away, returning to his desk. I could finally breathe properly. I cleared my throat, placing the iPad right in front of his face. " Well, the issue is your product is directed at the wrong audience
Lillian "Thanks for driving me !" I waved at Aiden. "I could wait till you're done getting ready and then drop you off ." He spoke, getting out of the car. "Oh...no, it's fine . You've done enough". He faked a frown. " You don't want to invite me in ?" "I don't want to take your time; it's still early . I'm sure you have other things to do ". If only he knew I wanted him gone because I was too ashamed of where I lived. I know I shouldn't be; some people were homeless, but still, this was my boss's brother. I didn't want him to think any less of me. He remained silent for a few seconds. " Alright, I'll take a ride and be back in an hour. How about that ?" I chuckled. At least I'll get to save money so why refuse the offer?" Alright then, see you in an hour". He nodded and drove off. I ran to my apartment hoping Jade hadn't gone to work yet. I missed her call yesterday because my phone was on silent. The door was open, indicating she was still in. I breathed in relief as
Lillian " Oh, it seems like your boss's brother is here ", Jade said, pulling us apart. My eyes darted to the clock on the wall. It wasn't even an hour yet, so why was he here so soon?" Oh shit, I haven't even had my bath yet!" Jade rolled her eyes "Relax, Lily, we are not even sure if it's him. It might be the neighbours or maybe someone else. I'll go check". She left the next second and was back in a jiffy. "It's Nico, he's here to pick me up. I'll see you later, Lily." She squealed. And just like that. She picked up her bag and exited the room. I didn't even get the chance to ask when she was moving out.Just then, my phone made a beep sound. I picked it up to see a text from the almighty Mr Stone's face. He was requesting that I dress properly for the conference at 3:00 p.m.I rolled my eyes; if the conference was at 3:00 p.m., then why did I have to go to work before 10. Considering that I had worked overnight. Sighing, I went into the bathroom to have a bath, after which I
Lillian."Mrs Ace, are you sure you have something suitable to wear?". He said taking a turn on 9th street. We were 10 minutes from where I lived." Well, yes ".He glanced at me and then back at the road ahead. " If this turns out to be a waste of time, I'm subtracting 20 dollars from your pay ". I swallowed." It's that black dress I wore on my second day ". The car immediately came to a halt and if I wasn't wearing a seatbelt, my head would have crashed on the glove box."Why did you stop so suddenly!". I shrieked in annoyance. He didn't even apologize; he just turned the car around and sped off."Where are you going now!" He remained silent. I finally snapped. " I hope you remain dumb forever". He finally turned in my direction, slowing down a little. His left brow was twitching indicating agitation."You are not dressing like a high school girl going clubbing to the conference !". I wanted to say something to counter his words, but I was at a loss. After a few minutes, we
Lillian This was a family dinner so I didn't understand why Sage and Oliver were here. The dining room was filled with silence, the atmosphere colder than the Arctic. The bond between father and sons was terrible. They barely acknowledged each other's existence. Sage was the one trying to make small talk but snapped her mouth shut after no one paid attention to her. I, on the other hand, was busy trying to be a good daughter-in-law. I set the table with the butlers and here I was filling my fiancé's plate. He was staring at me as I dished salad into his plate. Suspicious that I was acting sweet all of a sudden after giving him the cold shoulder just hours ago. " Don't worry, I didn't poison it. There are many ways to get back at you other than poison." I whispered and left his side. He stared at the salad before picking up his fork. A small smile crept on my face. Take note ladies, there are many ways to get back at a man. His expression changed as soon as
Lillian I've been standing here for over fifteen minutes now." If you don't give me the templates, then I'll just tell Zayden you refused orders." She hissed." Look at you being all sassy. Don't forget your place, Lillian." I hummed." My place is right above you." I pointed at her, a sly smile on my lips. It feels good to be superior. I know I'm being unreasonable right now. We were not even married yet, and here I was already giving orders, but I didn't care. " Look for the template yourself." She snarled. I shrugged." Have it your way then; I'll just simply tell Zayden that you refused his order." She hesitated before digging into her shelf."Here you go." She handed over the Files that Hale Corp rejected. I smirked." I'm going to be your boss soon, do show a little respect." She cursed at me." You should be ashamed. You're sleeping with your boss. You're a whore.” I chuckled." I'm sleeping with both brothers. That's why they're all over me. I won't be surprised if t
Lillian He immediately bucked, letting go of my neck to grab my hands that were tightly clutching his dick behind his pants. I coughed, trying desperately to catch my breath. Zayden just strangled me, he strangled me and slammed me on the desk. This only shows he had no regard for me at all. " I told you to walk away." I gritted my teeth, tightening my grip on his dick. He sucked in a huge breath, the anger slowly disappearing from his face." Let go right now!" I heard bending a man's cock in a certain way can cause pain especially if erect. He hurt me so I'll hurt him too. " I told you that whenever you feel angry, walk away! Walk the fuck away! Calm yourself then we'll talk rationally!" I blurted out. He raised his eyes to look at me, then down to my cheeks which were soaked with tears. Remorse written all over his face, he must have miraculously realized what he did. Oh, now he was back to the normal Zayden. " Lillian....." He breathed. I shook my head." Remo
Lillian I was jolted up by a loud bang. I put down my phone which I was using to watch a movie. Another one of the advantages of marrying your boss. You'll get to do next to nothing while his jealous bitch of a receptionist does all the work. I took pride in it, my ordering Helena around was satisfying, especially the look on her face. " Zayden?" I called, walking over to his desk. He was standing in front of the polished table, his hands clutching the desk tightly. He had his head bowed, so I could not see his face but I could see how he breathed heavily. How sweat tossed down his dark hair. How the muscles in his biceps flexed and how his jaw ticked. " Zayden, are you okay?” I stepped closer, adamant to know why he banged the door roughly like that. He raised his head, his gaze pinning me in place. His eyes had darkened and he stared at me with that same look he had when we first met. I suddenly tensed, the temperature dropping drastically. I sensed fury, I k
Zayden I opened the door for her, my eyes never leaving hers. It's not something I usually do but I just can't help it. Her cheeks turned pink." This is the first time you're opening the door for me. Did you perhaps hit your head on something?" I was shocked at what I did." I'm trying to be a gentleman, here." She chuckled." We both know you're not." I shrugged, getting into the driver's seat. We just left the registry. We were now married, I somehow found it hard to believe but she signed the papers. I had expected it would be difficult to convince her but here we were. There was this bubbly feeling that had been messing with my thinking since last night. She was yet to sign the contract, though. According to her, She would make the rules, and I was to oblige. " Wait, do not tell anyone we are married. No one can find out about this." She grasped, worry written all over her pretty face. I took a left turn, heading for the office." As long as my dad doesn't request a w
Lillian The first thing I noticed was how tall Zayden was, he had to bend to pass through the door. And then someone followed behind him, shorter but he occupied space. I stiffened, my fingers trembling slightly. Why was he here?He smiled at me." Lillian, it's been so long." I gritted my teeth; how could he be so jovial after everything he put me through? " I told Victoria it was you I saw being rushed into the ward but she wouldn't believe me." He chimed. "What do you want?" I said, cooly.Jade and Zayden were watching. Jade had only heard fragments of stories about my foster family, but Zayden knew nothing, and I wanted it to remain that way. He glanced around." If we could have some privacy." I nodded at Jade. She nodded back and left, but Zayden remained sitting. I saw the hesitation in his eyes. He didn't trust Thomas to be alone with me. I won't blame him, my father had the face of a criminal. " Come on, Zayden, I need to speak with my daughter," Thomas spoke with
Lillian I opened my eyes to darkness. My back hurt, my legs were numb and I couldn't move my hands. I groaned, my body felt extremely heavy. I tried taking in my surroundings; despite the darkness, it felt familiar. Where was I? A noise startled me; I turned in the direction of the sound. Footsteps started approaching. I attempted to stand then I realised I was tied to a chair. I tugged violently, hoping to loosen the rope a little, but it was no use; they were the size of my palm. I tried calming my breathing but they came out loudly. The lights were turned on, almost blinding me and causing my vision to blur a little. I couldn't make out the silhouette in front of me immediately. Slowly, my vision returned; there was a man. He stood tall and broad. I couldn't see his face because his head was almost touching the light bulb casting a bright light on his face. " Sweetheart I've missed you." He spoke. I froze. I recognised that voice. He raised my chin to l
ZaydenShe trembled, her knees jerking violently. "Hey, are you okay?" I reached for her but she stumbled backwards, knocking over the wine glass that was on the island and onto the floor. The first tear trickled down her cheeks as she grasped violently. She was losing balance, I did not understand what was happening. My first thought was that she might be asthmatic with the way she was grasping violently for air."Lillian, calm down. Breathe, breathe okay!"I held her shoulders but they were stiff and cold. Her whole body was stiff." Noah!" I had no idea what was happening but it was freaking me out. Her whole body started jerking erratically. She slipped out of my hold and stumbled on the floor right into the broken wine glass. "Fuck! Lillian calm down!" I ran to her side immediately, trying to lift her but she was shaking damn too hard. Her whole body was sweaty as tiny cries left her lips. I cursed "Lillian, look at me." I held her face, trying to get her attention b
Lillian "You are not supposed to be in the kitchen, Miss," Noah complained for the hundredth time. I glanced at him and continued making dinner. "I find more joy in eating the food I made." He mumbled something but remained silent. When I was done, I set the table and sat to eat. It was almost nine and Zayden hadn't come out of his room. I didn't even know he had left the office I only asked that he leave my space, not the damn building. Noah cleared his throat and I glanced at him." what?" He had been standing there and giving me the strangest look ever. He hesitated but eventually spoke." I don't know what's going on between you two but I think you should let it slide, that's if he had properly apologized." I sighed, reaching for my wrist that didn't hurt anymore. I knew I was dragging this out too long. How long has it been, four days? Five? I was angry that he thought so low of me, a part of me bitter that he only wanted my body, as for my wrist. It didn'
