Lillian
I have been staring at the mail I received this morning for the past one-hour now. I cried my eyes out yesterday thinking I was now fired and had to continue my job as a dishwasher at the bar. Yesterday I managed to go to my shift after crying at my parent's grave. I had been so moody until I returned home by 3am this morning. My boss reduced my pay, saying I was late and there was no wine glass to serve the customers. But, at least I've got some extra dollars to spare. I came home looking like a ghost about to drown myself in self-pity then start another job hunt when I received the mail. For once, it seems like the earth was in my favor. “Are you not going to go ?” Jade asked as she got dressed for work. I sighed. “ If I don't I'll continue to be miserable”. “Exactly!” She exclaimed, making me chuckle. “ Girl, this is the highest paying job you've gotten in your lifetime. Yesterday was a mistake and that's that. Today is a new day”. I screamed Into my pillow. “ I should get dressed ”. “Yes you should!” Walking over to her side of the closet, she tossed me a black dress. “Wear this, and don't get kicked out this time”. “Thank you”. I whispered, teary-eyed. Jade was very generous, she had been covering my debts for the past three months now and for that, I was extremely grateful. I just hoped this dress would work. Jade was Skinny, very Skinny, while I was a little less skinny, but the dress should fit. Even if it doesn't, I'll make it fit. ****** I stood in front of Mr. Kent, staring at my shoes. He had scolded me for running away yesterday and said he was going to punish me by deducting from my salary and giving me extra workload. I wanted to ask him how he went about the document, but I was too scared to ask and since they were no longer on my desk than I supposed he must have done something about them. I didn't wear heels today, and I don't intend to wear them any time soon. “ Now you're dressed like you're going clubbing”. His voice roared. I swallowed. It wasn't my fault, the dress was too small, and it hugged my body like jelly. I had passed a few employees as I entered the building, they were either wearing suits or blazers. “It's a decent dress”. I retorted, my voice low. “ Don't you have blazers, or pencil skirts?” He sounded annoyed. My jaw dropped. Blazers were for rich people, I barely have a proper jacket or sweater, let alone a goddamn blazer. I had never bothered spending my little cash on a decent dress, I'd rather I ate healthy food than wear expensive clothes. He growled.“Close your mouth, Mrs. Ace." I snapped my mouth shut immediately.“No, I don't have blazers”. He seemed confused.“ Then what do you have ?” I shrugged.“Jeans, tank tops, a few hoodies, and beach dresses”. The office fell silent, with him staring at me like he was seeing a ghost. He shook his head from side to side, then reached for the drawers. Tossing a black card at me, he said.“Get proper clothes. I have a conference in two days, and you are not coming with me in one of your clown dresses.” I was holding the credit card, staring at him in shock. Did he just offer me his credit card to go shopping? I bit down on my lower lip.“ I … I can't accept this ?” He raised a brow.“ Do you want to lose your job?” I shook my head violently. “I thought so. Spend as much as you want, as long as you get yourself a proper dress.” I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat. I never knew he was capable of such kindness, he had been cold and rude since the first day we met, so this ......this was so unexpected. “Thank you ”. I whispered. I should be ashamed that I couldn't provide for myself, but right now, I needed as much help as I could get. He snorted but didn't reply. “ I have a meeting to attend in 10 minutes of which you almost ruined yesterday”. He stood up from behind his desk, closing the distance between us. I then realized how tall he was, I didn't even get up to his shoulders. I took In his facial features. His face was extremely flawless. He was beautiful. “I'm sorry”. I apologized for the hundredth time. His left brow twitched.” Stop apologizing,it's annoying. The meeting should hold for at least an hour, be back before then. The company driver will drive you”. And just like that, he was gone. Few minutes later, the driver came to escort me to the parking lot. I had been pinching my cheeks all the way to the first floor. Mr. Kent gave me his credit card ,and he said I could spend as much as I want. But then again, he probably didn't want me humiliating him by my shallow dressing during the conference. Doesn't matter now, I'll get proper work clothes for the conference, then spend a little cash on food. At least I'll finally have enough food to eat before I get my first paycheck. The driver took me to one of the biggest shopping malls in the city, one that I had never stepped foot in. I didn't waste time, I found a gray blazer that I liked and a pair of black stilettos. I almost fainted when I saw the price tag. Not only that, but I would have run out of the mall if the driver hadn't threatened to tell Mr. Kent. I ended up buying it, convincing myself that it was for the conference. I spent the next half hour shopping for groceries. Likewise, I bought enough foodstuffs that'll last more than a month. I had never been this lucky in my whole life, so at the first sight of luck, I'm grabbing it by the neck. We returned to the company an hour later. The driver promised to drive me home at the close of work along with my provisions. I was on cloud nine, I swore, I would try my best not to upset Mr. Kent. This one kind gesture had saved a soul from starvation. This meant that I didn't have to go to my night shift at the bar anymore. I could survive on this until the month ends, and I get paid. Mr. Kent was already in the office when I went in. His burning gaze scrutinized me again. “ Why are you still dressed like that ?” He asked me. I reached over and placed the credit card on his desk directly in front of him. “ I'm saving the blazer for the conference, wasn't that what you wanted ?” He crooked his brow.“ It's just a three-hour conference, I'd expect you'll change your clothes before coming back here “. I blinked at him. “ But, if I wear that now, then I'll have to wear the same clothes at the conference." He frowned. “ Wear the same clothes ?...that was precisely why I gave you my credit card, to get yourself enough clothes for work”. I took a sharp intake of breath, fidgeting with the sleeve. I had only bought one blazer, and matching trousers. There was no way on earth I'd tell him that. Sensing the sudden change in my demeanor, he walked over to where I stood. “ Mr. Ace, did you get yourself enough clothes for work ?” I could practically feel the temperature drop in his voice. Shifting on my feet, I cleared my throat.“I thought you said to buy just one dress for the conference”. He stepped closer, I could now feel his breath on my temple.“ If you bought just one dress, then why did such a huge sum leave my account." Silence followed. “Mrs. Ace?”. Silence . I heard him take a deep breath.“ Mrs. Ace, what did you spend my money on ?” I remained silent. How in the world was I supposed to tell him I spent thousands of dollars on expensive food?Zayden I looked from the trunk of the minivan and back at my secretary. For the first time in my life I was dumbfounded. I had no words. I looked over to the driver. “ I swear on my grandma, sir, I have no hand in this.” He spoke. I looked over at Mr. Ace. She shifted uncomfortably on her feet, pouting her lips. I honestly did not know whether to be angry or not. She had just spent thousands of dollars on food stuffs that were enough to throw a party. The groceries ranged from all kinds of fruits to cereals, snacks, rice, pastries, fruit drinks and even wine. I ran a hand through my hair in frustration. Maybe I should have just laid her off and saved myself the trouble. The only reason I gave her my credit card was to appease my conscience for yesterday. “Mrs. Ace, please tell me that you at least got yourself more than one dress”. I sighed. “I thought you said just one blazer for the conference”. She whined. I only stared at her. A mixture of unknown emotions swirling
Zayden As I stepped into the boardroom, my father was tapping his fingers on the table impatiently, with Aiden beside him. There were two other board members in the room, and I hoped that the issue hadn't reached their ears. But,this was my Father. He spreads news like wild fire especially if it's about me. "You called for me?" I asked directly, skipping all formalities. My father slid a file over to me. "What's this nonsense, Zayden." He said with a tone of disapproval. It was the contract I signed with a neighbouring company just yesterday, and now they wanted to terminate it. I tried maintaining a straight face, but I was taken aback. "This is not possible," I said. "I received complaints, Zayden, and I didn't like what I heard . Since when did you become so incompetent? " He raised his voice, expressing disappointment in my work. I gritted my teeth trying to stay calm. "Enlightenment me ". " The presentation you made yesterday doesn't align with what's written here
Lillian I couldn't believe what was happening. I was in the bathroom, dealing with unexpected menstrual cramps. I usually get these cramps before my period, but this time, I ignored the signs, attributing the pain to hunger because I hadn't eaten a good breakfast. I was panicking because I had stained my underwear and was trying to clean it with soap and water. I wrapped a towel around my body and started pacing, feeling the heavy flow. I knew I couldn't ask Helena for the bathroom earlier before Mr. Kent returned; she had been giving me dirty looks. My only hope was rushing home but now that was out of the option. I spend the next thirty minutes thinking of what to do. My underwear was bloodied and I just finished washing it. Thankfully there are no noticeable stains on my dress. Just as I was pacing, I felt a warm liquid trail down my thighs. I looked down, I had to cover my mouth to stifle my sob. I usually have a heavy flow, and at this rate, I'll get the white towe
Lillian "I'm having a flow, the type that happens monthly." I said clearing my throat not to look awkward. He dipped his hands in his pockets, straightening his stance. " You'll have to use more words, Mrs Ace ." I swallowed ,wishing the ground would open up and swallow me. " And please get up from the floor!" He scolded. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't because I was a thousand per cent sure that the white towel was stained. From the pain in my lower abdomen, I could tell I was leaking like my kitchen sink ."I...I...can't ". " You can't?... Mrs ace, do I have to remind you that we have a lot of work to do ?" I looked up to meet his stare; our eyes locked for a moment until his eye trailed down to my chest. I did my best to assume that he didn't just look at my boobs." You don't understand, I really can't ". I told him, a worried expression plastered on my face. "Then make me understand and do it quickly!" His eyes were still on my boobs. How can he still keep a
Zayden I was beginning to think maybe I should just dismiss her. Dealing with women was more exhilarating than with men. If I hadn't knocked then she probably wouldn't have come out. Even now she still had spent almost 10mins in the bathroom. I sighed heavily and set myself to work. I'll just lay the groundwork today and then begin properly tomorrow. And that's why I need extra hands, editing the template wouldn't be easy. Just then, she finally came out of the bathroom. The image of her wrapped in my towel suddenly flashed before my eyes. I had to shake my head to clear my mind of those thoughts. Standing in front of me, fidgeting with her dress, she spoke, " Umm, Mr Kent, thank you for the umm....stuff". My eyes went to her chest, something I found hard to stop doing since I saw her cleavage. "Get to work, start with editing the files I sent to you !" I said coldly. She stood there for a while before turning to walk away but paused. "Umm, is it alright to ask
Lillian There was no way I'd back down. One thing I hate is being aware of something bad and doing nothing about it. And now this jerk of a boss was too hard-headed to listen to opinions from others. I had to hold my breath as he cornered me. "You're saying that I made a mistake?" His voice was hoarse. I had to turn my face sideways or I would feel his breath on my face. "You're not Jesus, Mr Kent. So, yes you made a mistake". I told him.I could feel the anger emanating from him." If you'll just hear me out maybe you'll understand why you'll get rejected." I watched him grit his teeth, struggling to make a decision. "Fine, but if this proves to be a waste of time then you're fired ".I raised my chin, confident of what I was doing, or at least I thought so.He finally stepped away, returning to his desk. I could finally breathe properly. I cleared my throat, placing the iPad right in front of his face. " Well, the issue is your product is directed at the wrong audience
Lillian "Thanks for driving me !" I waved at Aiden. "I could wait till you're done getting ready and then drop you off ." He spoke, getting out of the car. "Oh...no, it's fine . You've done enough". He faked a frown. " You don't want to invite me in ?" "I don't want to take your time; it's still early . I'm sure you have other things to do ". If only he knew I wanted him gone because I was too ashamed of where I lived. I know I shouldn't be; some people were homeless, but still, this was my boss's brother. I didn't want him to think any less of me. He remained silent for a few seconds. " Alright, I'll take a ride and be back in an hour. How about that ?" I chuckled. At least I'll get to save money so why refuse the offer?" Alright then, see you in an hour". He nodded and drove off. I ran to my apartment hoping Jade hadn't gone to work yet. I missed her call yesterday because my phone was on silent. The door was open, indicating she was still in. I breathed in relief as
Lillian " Oh, it seems like your boss's brother is here ", Jade said, pulling us apart. My eyes darted to the clock on the wall. It wasn't even an hour yet, so why was he here so soon?" Oh shit, I haven't even had my bath yet!" Jade rolled her eyes "Relax, Lily, we are not even sure if it's him. It might be the neighbours or maybe someone else. I'll go check". She left the next second and was back in a jiffy. "It's Nico, he's here to pick me up. I'll see you later, Lily." She squealed. And just like that. She picked up her bag and exited the room. I didn't even get the chance to ask when she was moving out.Just then, my phone made a beep sound. I picked it up to see a text from the almighty Mr Stone's face. He was requesting that I dress properly for the conference at 3:00 p.m.I rolled my eyes; if the conference was at 3:00 p.m., then why did I have to go to work before 10. Considering that I had worked overnight. Sighing, I went into the bathroom to have a bath, after which I
Lillian I took my seat in between Jade and Oliver. " What took you so long?" She whispered at my side as we all stood up to honour the judge's presence. " I had a pee break," I whispered back. I felt selfish, like I just made a very grave mistake. Closing my eyes, I sat back down; I could have ended this five minutes ago. I wouldn't have to sit here and listen to men in wigs talk if I hadn't refused his offer. I refused to drop the case, and now, Zayden's father vowed never to let Zayden out of prison bars if, by any chance, we win this case. I can't degrade myself by apologising publicly for a crime I know too well Aiden committed. And I have a very strong feeling that Zayden would approve of my decision. Zayden's father walked in a minute later and sat at the other rows of chairs along with Loren. It seems Oliver was having a heated dispute with his father for taking sides with me and Zayden. They barely looked at each other, and I had noticed how Loren t
Lillian I had been running around every day putting pieces of evidence together along with Oliver to help Zayden's case. It's been four days since he was put behind bars and I had gone to see him twice. At this rate, I was losing hope because his dad was bent on making our lives hell. The trial would begin in two weeks but we still had no evidence for Laura's death. That was the major issue, but all evidence still points to him, and we still have not been able to counter it. Tyrell was sentenced to death by the electric chair. He committed too many murders to even be granted the gift of life imprisonment. It was even risky as he might break out again and go on another killing spree. His execution was to take place next month, I won't be going to watch because I've got better things to do. Unfortunately, he had no family members, so he was going to face death alone. Aside from that, I had another issue. I had reported Aiden to the cops and requested an arrest. The recording
Lillian At that moment I so much wanted to pick up a rock and smash it on this jerk in uniform's face. " Excuse me? What the hell are you trying to do." I snarled, stepping in between Zayden and the officer. He cleared his throat." The operation is over so..." I cut him off abruptly." So get the fuck out of here and go back to your precinct." He remained standing, staring at me like I just disrespected his entire lineage. " Excuse me ma'am, but I have to do my job. He needs to return to his cell today without fail." He explained, his brows twitching. Zayden was about to speak but I waved a hand, mentioning for him to let me do the talking." My husband just fought a man who had been terrorising the entire city for weeks and that you and your incompetent cronies have never been able to bring to justice. But now, you have him behind bars courtesy of me and my husband, who risked our lives for the sake of this city." I stepped up to the officer, maintaining eye conta
Zayden I pulled the trigger as fast as I could, aiming at his hand holding the remote control. It flew out of his hand, a hole appearing on his palm. He grunted loudly, clutching the hand I just shot. If I had delayed for a second I'd probably be ashes by now. I trudged over to where the remote control was and picked it up, tucking it safely in my pocket. There's no way I'm letting him have it again. I stared at him on the floor, blood dripping down his hand and neck. I could end it right now and not be accountable for it. The cops had given me the go-ahead; I was doing this city a good if I shut him in the head right now, but what I didn't get was why the fuck I was holding back. I cursed silently, something was wrong. I could feel it, something was wrong with me. I placed my finger on the trigger and urged every fibre of muscle in my body to pull it, but I couldn't. He noticed my resistance." What's the matter? Don't want to get more blood on your hands." " Shut the
Zayden Ahh fuck! Fuck! I knew this was a bad idea from the start. I knew I was making a big mistake. We should have just waited for him to come to us, now we were stuck in the middle of nowhere with that bastard having the upper hand. Lillian stiffened; she didn't as much as moving a muscle. " I'm not going to repeat myself, Zayden. Disarm yourself." His voice echoed again. I scanned the room quickly as I reached for the revolver at the back of my pants. It was pretty dark here, and my best guess was that he was sitting in the hallway, which was directly opposite us. We can't see him but he can see us. I placed the revolver on the floor. He chuckled again."I know you're not dumb enough to come with just a revolver. If you don't want your pretty little wife swimming in a pool of her own blood, then take everything out!" I hesitated, and then my eyes fell on Lillian. He might actually shoot her so I brought out the knife I had in my pants and dropped it on the floor. " Th
Lillian "I haven't told you my story, at least not all of it yet," Zayden spoke as we snuggled in bed. I ended up giving him a blow job after I got out of the bathroom. I only did that because, well he kind of seduced me. I didn't even realise I was already sucking his dick until I started choking. Sigh. That's what you get for marrying a perv and then that perv influenced you and corrupted your sweet little soul. " Are there still more stories to tell?" I pulled the covers so that we were both covered to our necks. " Not really but I might have left out a tiny detail." " What is it?" He turned to face me, his grey eyes boring into mine." My birth name is Reign, not Zayden." My pupils dilated. I remembered Aiden mentioned something of this sort." What? But Zayden is what everyone knows you as." He traced his fingers along my cheekbone." Yeah. My father changed the name on my birth certificate. It was around that time he locked me up. According to him, it would make it ea
Lillian. I know, I know. I no longer have a flat tummy, and it was now filled with stretch marks coupled with a few scars that I had. " No, don't." Zayden breathed, walking over to me." Don't cover yourself up from me ever again." I couldn't meet his eyes. For a brief moment, I thought he would no longer find me attractive. I had stared at the mirror a couple of times; the pregnancy left a ton of stretch marks and my belly had only reduced in size a little. The doctor said it might not go away completely, but it would reduce to a considerable amount. As for the stretch marks, there are various essential oils I could use on them. " You are still the most beautiful woman I have ever set my eyes on. Those marks are a symbol of your strength; they are beautiful." He knelt down and placed a kiss on my belly. "And I don't mind if you never get a flat tummy back. Bitter truth? You won't" He raised an amused eyes to look up at me. I snarled." You were supposed to make me feel bette
Lillian. A few days later after Zayden was discharged and we went to visit Brenda again. This time she welcomed us warmly. I'm a woman so I know when a fellow woman is trying so hard to mask her emotions. I could see the eye bags under her eyes. I could sense the sorrow and grief she was trying so hard to hide. She probably had been thinking about how she was going to raise that little boy on her own. " What's his name?" I asked as I sat down on the couch with Zayden sitting beside me. The little boy was shy, as he kept hiding behind his mother. I got a good look at him once when Brenda pulled him to sit properly on the couch. He looked so much like Falco. " His name is Frederick." She replied a warm smile on her face. " Hi, Frederick." I gave the kid a playful smile. He lifted his small hand and waved at me. He didn't utter a word and just hid his face behind his mother's hand. " He's very shy around strangers," Brenda noted. It was cute though. "I came to thank you again.
Lillian I pressed myself up against his chest so tightly that I heard him groan. " I know you missed me but You are going to reopen my wound." He breathed on my cheek. I shifted back immediately, my face wet from tears." Zayden!" I whimpered, my voice echoing in the room." I thought you were going to die, I thought you left me. You died!" He wrapped his hands around me." I did, but then I had a nightmare that ten years later, you remarried a blonde fucker and forgot about me. No way in hell am I letting that happen." I heard Oliver chuckle in the background, I couldn't help but laugh." Why did you do that again...you shouldn't have stepped in." He rolled his eyes." Are you seriously asking me that?" He placed both hands on my face, caressing my cheeks." I'll do anything for you even if it means dying." I burst into another round of tears as my heart warmed up. The relief I felt right now was so overwhelming. " You're weak, you wouldn't have survived it. And I have my child
