Lillian
I walked into the massive building, careful not to let the mud on my shoes stain the sparkling white tiles. I received an email yesterday that I had passed the job interview so here I was on my first day as a secretary. Walking over to a lady behind the reception, I gave her a sweet smile. “ Umm, excuse me. I'm Lillian Ace." She grasped.“ Ohh, our new employee!” I nodded, still smiling even though my lips hurt. “Give me a minute,” she said then typed something on the computer before turning to face me again. She looked me up and down slowly with a smug smile on her face. I suddenly felt self-conscious. I was wearing a sunset yellow dress and a pair of white Stilettos. “ Is this how you dressed in your previous work?” She snarled. My previous work was at a café, I wore jeans every single day, but I wasn't going to blurt that out. “Well, it's decent enough."I retorted. She smacked her red painted lips shaking her head. “ Miss, we have a dress code here. All corporate wear, Monday to Fridays." Swallowing the tantrum that was about to escape my lips I spoke.“This is a corporate dress." She shook her head, disagreeing with me.“You are dressed like you're going to the beach, go home and put on something more appropriate." I scrutinized her dressing, she was dressed like she was going for a hook up. I released a breath. My house was an hour drive from here and the only money left with me right now was for groceries. If I go back home now, then I would have to walk for almost two hours to get back here. When she saw I was unmoving, she snapped. “ Do you want this job or not ?” Her voice high-pitched, attracting the attention of other people in the building. I was embarrassed, I wasn't even sure I had the right outfit at home.“Well, where I live is pretty far. So, going back wouldn't be easy." She looked me up her down, her brown eyes brimming with disgust. Tilting her head, she scrutinized me. “ Seems to me that you probably don't have any appropriate work clothes." She walked around the desk and stood right in front of my face. “ Or you simply can't afford one." She picked up the edge of my dress, holding it like it was shit. I finally flared up, this lady had been rude since the moment I walked in, and I wasn't going to let anyone belittle me. I slapped her hands off my dress. “ Don't touch me! “ Deep down, I knew I didn't have any proper clothes. I wasn't rich or anything, but I could afford at least two-square meals a day. I was initially planning on calling Jade to lend me some clothes, she was a good friend of mine and my roommate. She worked at a decent company, didn't pay much, but she was still living her best life. “ You better hurry, the boss comes by 9 so you have less than 25 minutes left ."She folded her hands on her chest, a smug smile on her face. There was no way on earth I'd make it back in 25 minutes. The stubborn side of me wanted to just waltz out and never come back, but I knew better. Jobs like this were difficult to come by, if I let this one go, then I'm doomed. As much as I hated to beg people, especially the likes of this receptionist, I had no choice. So I swallowed my little pride and tried reasoning with her. “ I could wear something better tomorrow, but today wouldn't work. I won't be able to get back in 25 minutes even if I used a jet ." She snorted. “ Then fucking teleport! ” Turning on her heels, she tossed her hair in my face and walked back behind the desk. I stood rooted to the ground like a statue, not knowing what to do. I felt so many eyes on me, this was really embarrassing. The next moment I turned on my heels and exited the building. I walked as fast as I could, trying not to trip on my shaky heels. I reached for my phone in my purse, wanting to call Jade. Her workplace shouldn't be far from here, if she could help me, then I'll kiss her toes when I get home. Tears were clouding my vision, I couldn't even see the screen properly. I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings and the next second I bumped roughly into someone, landing on my ass and smacking several office files on the slightly damp concrete floor. My phone was tossed to a corner, probably broken too. Scrambling to my feet, I began apologizing, picking up the already damp papers. I looked up from my squatting position to find a pair of gray eyes looking down at me. He was tall with a mass of black hair toppling over his shoulders. He was looking at me like he was about to snap my neck. “ I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."I mumbled. It was then I noticed I had also smacked his phone to the ground. I stared in horror at the broken screen. This phone could cost my life. I had seen enough phones to differentiate between expensive and cheap ones. Mine was the cheapest, but this could cost a fortune. “Get up !”His voice was hoarse. I rose to my feet immediately, holding a few papers that I managed to pick up. “Do you know how long it took me to sort out those documents?” I flinched.“ I'm sorry, I wasn't looking. I'm deeply sorry.” He stepped closer, his cologne making my body go rigid. “ Sorry, isn't going to sort the papers out. Do you know how long it took me to prepare this? Not only did you destroy my phone, but the papers are goddamn soaked! ” He snarled. I was so unlucky, every day of my life had also been full of bad luck. There was never a day when things could go smoothly,I was still wondering why a plane hadn't crashed on my head yet . I heard the clacking of heels and a grasp. “ You again! ”. The receptionist shrieked. I turned to look at her, my hands trembling. We were in the middle of a walkway. Some people were already turning their heads to stare. “ Oh my god, sir …. I'm so sorry.” She walked up to where I stood. Grabbing the papers from my hands, she took a look. Her eyes widened as she barked at me. “ Isn't this .......you pest,I knew you were a nuisance !” I don't tolerate insults but right now, I am in the wrong so to minimize the situation, I'd rather accept whatever words she chose to throw at me. I had a feeling that if people weren't around, she would have slapped me hard. “ Mr. Kent, isn't the presentation tomorrow? What are we going to do?” I blinked, realization dawning on me. I might have just ruined something critical, and I hoped my guts were wrong but from the looks of things. This man was probably the boss. “ You !" He pointed a finger at me. “ Come with me.”Lillian I followed them to the elevator looking like a puppy drenched in cold water. The receptionist whose name turned out to be Helena had been glaring daggers at me. I noticed that some buttons on her shirt had popped open. She had been arching her back, pushing up her already exposed boobs. Obviously, her squeaking like a church rat all the way to the elevator wasn't to annoy me but to impress her boss. Mr. Stone face hadn't even glanced at her the whole time. He had glanced at me once when I almost tripped and had to grab his hand for support. The look he gave me was enough to slit my throat. He was scary and cold and a jackass. We entered his office which was grand and bigger than the apartment I lived in. “Get me my work file and the sketchbook."He ordered. Helena stomped out of the office immediately leaving me and Stone face alone. He turned to face me, taking a step towards me. “ You will type out every single page until your fingers break, and then you'l
Zayden I watched as she ran out of my office sobbing. Today has been one of the worst days of my life. My eyes fell on the stack of flies on her desk. She only managed to type 50 documents and didn't even print them. I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. If I don't get this done before tomorrow, then I might lose the contract and then Aiden would be on cloud nine. My father made us compete, he always made us compete even if we were siblings. This time, whoever manages to get the contract with a neighboring tech company would get additional 5 percent shares from my father. Originally, I should remain the CEO, but Aiden had been creating a fuss about it. And now, that red-haired girl was about to sabotage my plan. I now regretted telling her she was laid off. That was much too easy, She should be punished for ruining my presentation. I picked up my phone to call Helena, those documents weren't going to sort themselves. “Don't go home yet, we have to finish up be
Lillian I have been staring at the mail I received this morning for the past one-hour now. I cried my eyes out yesterday thinking I was now fired and had to continue my job as a dishwasher at the bar. Yesterday I managed to go to my shift after crying at my parent's grave. I had been so moody until I returned home by 3am this morning. My boss reduced my pay, saying I was late and there was no wine glass to serve the customers. But, at least I've got some extra dollars to spare. I came home looking like a ghost about to drown myself in self-pity then start another job hunt when I received the mail. For once, it seems like the earth was in my favor. “Are you not going to go ?” Jade asked as she got dressed for work. I sighed. “ If I don't I'll continue to be miserable”. “Exactly!” She exclaimed, making me chuckle. “ Girl, this is the highest paying job you've gotten in your lifetime. Yesterday was a mistake and that's that. Today is a new day”. I screamed Into my pillow. “
Zayden I looked from the trunk of the minivan and back at my secretary. For the first time in my life I was dumbfounded. I had no words. I looked over to the driver. “ I swear on my grandma, sir, I have no hand in this.” He spoke. I looked over at Mr. Ace. She shifted uncomfortably on her feet, pouting her lips. I honestly did not know whether to be angry or not. She had just spent thousands of dollars on food stuffs that were enough to throw a party. The groceries ranged from all kinds of fruits to cereals, snacks, rice, pastries, fruit drinks and even wine. I ran a hand through my hair in frustration. Maybe I should have just laid her off and saved myself the trouble. The only reason I gave her my credit card was to appease my conscience for yesterday. “Mrs. Ace, please tell me that you at least got yourself more than one dress”. I sighed. “I thought you said just one blazer for the conference”. She whined. I only stared at her. A mixture of unknown emotions swirling
Zayden As I stepped into the boardroom, my father was tapping his fingers on the table impatiently, with Aiden beside him. There were two other board members in the room, and I hoped that the issue hadn't reached their ears. But,this was my Father. He spreads news like wild fire especially if it's about me. "You called for me?" I asked directly, skipping all formalities. My father slid a file over to me. "What's this nonsense, Zayden." He said with a tone of disapproval. It was the contract I signed with a neighbouring company just yesterday, and now they wanted to terminate it. I tried maintaining a straight face, but I was taken aback. "This is not possible," I said. "I received complaints, Zayden, and I didn't like what I heard . Since when did you become so incompetent? " He raised his voice, expressing disappointment in my work. I gritted my teeth trying to stay calm. "Enlightenment me ". " The presentation you made yesterday doesn't align with what's written here
Lillian I couldn't believe what was happening. I was in the bathroom, dealing with unexpected menstrual cramps. I usually get these cramps before my period, but this time, I ignored the signs, attributing the pain to hunger because I hadn't eaten a good breakfast. I was panicking because I had stained my underwear and was trying to clean it with soap and water. I wrapped a towel around my body and started pacing, feeling the heavy flow. I knew I couldn't ask Helena for the bathroom earlier before Mr. Kent returned; she had been giving me dirty looks. My only hope was rushing home but now that was out of the option. I spend the next thirty minutes thinking of what to do. My underwear was bloodied and I just finished washing it. Thankfully there are no noticeable stains on my dress. Just as I was pacing, I felt a warm liquid trail down my thighs. I looked down, I had to cover my mouth to stifle my sob. I usually have a heavy flow, and at this rate, I'll get the white towe
Lillian "I'm having a flow, the type that happens monthly." I said clearing my throat not to look awkward. He dipped his hands in his pockets, straightening his stance. " You'll have to use more words, Mrs Ace ." I swallowed ,wishing the ground would open up and swallow me. " And please get up from the floor!" He scolded. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't because I was a thousand per cent sure that the white towel was stained. From the pain in my lower abdomen, I could tell I was leaking like my kitchen sink ."I...I...can't ". " You can't?... Mrs ace, do I have to remind you that we have a lot of work to do ?" I looked up to meet his stare; our eyes locked for a moment until his eye trailed down to my chest. I did my best to assume that he didn't just look at my boobs." You don't understand, I really can't ". I told him, a worried expression plastered on my face. "Then make me understand and do it quickly!" His eyes were still on my boobs. How can he still keep a
Zayden I was beginning to think maybe I should just dismiss her. Dealing with women was more exhilarating than with men. If I hadn't knocked then she probably wouldn't have come out. Even now she still had spent almost 10mins in the bathroom. I sighed heavily and set myself to work. I'll just lay the groundwork today and then begin properly tomorrow. And that's why I need extra hands, editing the template wouldn't be easy. Just then, she finally came out of the bathroom. The image of her wrapped in my towel suddenly flashed before my eyes. I had to shake my head to clear my mind of those thoughts. Standing in front of me, fidgeting with her dress, she spoke, " Umm, Mr Kent, thank you for the umm....stuff". My eyes went to her chest, something I found hard to stop doing since I saw her cleavage. "Get to work, start with editing the files I sent to you !" I said coldly. She stood there for a while before turning to walk away but paused. "Umm, is it alright to ask
Zayden I was kept in a cell. I would be transferred to Fox River prison if I was found guilty two weeks from now. It's not that I don't trust my lawyer, the worst that could happen would be me getting locked up but with a reduced sentence, Maybe forty years.I cringe at that thought, it wouldn't bother me so much if Lillian was coming to see me.But the fact that she still hadn't been found was eating me up from the inside. My plan failed; I couldn't get my father to talk, and I cursed myself for it.I still had another chance before my trial which was in two weeks. I sent a message to my father asking for us to meet privately. He at first refused but then sent in his response just yesterday. The only problem was that he would grace me with his presence a day before my trial. I can't wait that long.I can't wait two weeks before I get out of here, Lillian needs me. I paced my cell, tugging on my hair. I was slowly losing my mind. I pushed myself up against the bars, banging on th
Lillian. I used my fingers to detangle my messed up hair while staring at my reflection through the water in the bowl Falco brought me a while ago.I bite down on my lower lip suppressing the sob that threatened to fall out. My hair was barely shoulder length and cut irregularly. I've never felt this much rage in my entire life. That painful urge to pick up a fork and stab it through that bitche's eye was eating at me.Yes, I was helpless but I knew I would get rescued and these fuckers would pay.I'll personally shave every single hair off her scalp with my bare hands.I wasn't too surprised when she walked in yesterday, at first she had a mask on her face but her swollen tummy gave her away. That look in her eyes was like she had already won. I didn't do anything stupid and just remained quiet till I was taken back to the basement. Now here I was preparing for the night.Falco came in placing the bowl of rice on the floor. It's the same old rice and eggs but thankfully no apple t
Zayden Dressed in a black Armani three-piece suit, he stood before the podium, cameras flashing their lights in all directions." You're going to be in the newspaper tomorrow, Zay." Oliver chortled.I shrugged."I guess I'm getting famous." My father cleared his throat, and then a drained expression formed on his face. I've known him long enough to know when he was faking an act. Right now, he was faking it." It's with utmost sorrow that I stand before you here today. I should have addressed this issue sooner instead of letting it lie low till now." He began, his eyes looking over the crowd. " As a citizen of this great country, I must abide by the laws of our land, and an outlaw remains an outlaw regardless of whether he or she is a family member or not." He paused, using a napkin to wipe the sweat off his face."The news of my son's crimes must have circulated by now. Some of you have questioned my credibility and the credibility of my assets. The revelation has been a great blo
ZaydenIt's been four days!Four fucking long days.I paced the room, my hand tugging my hair violently. I went back to where Oliver was tapping away at the keyboard. " Anything?" I asked for the tenth time now.I heard him sigh." Nope! There's no trace of the van." I clenched my fists tightly, I was going crazy every second. The van which abducted my wife was last seen at Bridgeton. The cops took two fucking days to find it, and then they couldn't do anything past there. If I owned a police station, I'd burn down the place, including those incompetent jerks in uniforms. I took matters into my own hands and began the search myself along with Oliver. So far, progress has been slow. There was no facial ID, not even a glimpse of the driver. The only lead we had was the van's plate number, which was last seen in Bridgeton. Whoever they were, it was either they dumped the vehicle at Bridgeton to lure us away from the initial location, or we were not just looking deep enough. My fir
Lillian The sound of something crashing softly on the dusty wooden floor woke me up. I yawned, I didn't even realize when I dozed off. I looked up to see Falco, tossing a blanket on the bed he just dropped." You should be thankful you're not sleeping on the floor." He gnarled, his eyes glaring at me. The bed wasn't big but it should fit my body. At least it was better than crouching on the floor. "Now, we are going to make a deal." He crouched down to my level. I nodded, I barely had the strength to move my limbs right now, and I needed rest. " Good. I won't tie you up and you'll behave. Do not try to escape, it's for your own good. Ryker wouldn't be as lenient next time." So that scard man was Ryker. Where the hell did they even get those weird names. Obviously, I won't name my child Blox or Krovak. I only nodded, and then he grabbed my hands, his stare pinning me in place." I'm serious. Think about your child before you do anything stupid." I swallowed and slowly n
Lillian I held my breath, trying to listen closely for footsteps before I made my move. I don't know how long it had been but I waited quite a while, just to make sure they were no longer on my tail. The wooden ceiling above me creaked and then I heard soft footsteps. After a while, it faded away, and the only sound I could hear was that of crickets.I looked over to where the piece of broken bottle lay. I just needed to move a few feet and I'll be able to reach for it. My heart was beating so loudly in my ears that I couldn't hear anything else.I was terrified.I shifted my body weight, and the chair scrapped along the wooden floor, creating a loud but disturbing symphony.I paused then took a deep breath and shifted my weight again. The chair creaked but it only moved a few inches. Sweat pooled down my face and onto my gagged mouth. I huffed and then shifted my weight to one side in the direction of the bottle, supporting the chair with my toe pressed hard on the floor. The ch
Lillian My eyelids were heavy, my whole body was aching all over. The floor felt strong and rough, where the hell was I? The first thing I thought of was Zayden and our baby. A piercing pain shot through my skull from where I was hit. I felt my body swerving from left to right like I was in a vehicle. I could hear voices but my head was still spinning to even make out what they were saying." He said not to hurt her. She's pregnant! Why the fuck did you hit her on the head." I heard a man's voice. " Shut the fuck up, Falco. I didn't hit her belly, so there's no big deal." Another one roared. The first man who appeared to be called Falco scoffed." What if she loses the baby? What are you going to tell him, huh? I'm not taking your side if that happens." My stomach lurched and I remained as still as possible. I tried desperately to feel my tummy. I didn't feel any specific pain, and I thanked God Internally. That meant I was okay and the baby was okay. All I had to do I stay calm
Zayden They were stupid enough to film the wedding and put it on TV. Cameras were everywhere, people were murmuring about how grand the wedding was. I had some people set up cams in the chapel, I don't want to miss out on all the fun. I sat with a bag of chips in my hand, watching through the cams how Sage was going to humiliate herself and our reputation on the television. The whole world was going to see it. I smiled, can't wait to see the look on her face when she realised what she put herself into. The event started, but at a point, they couldn't move on without the groom. My phone rang, and Dad was calling. He texted, threatening me that if I didn't show up, the consequences would be dire. I only just watched the phone ring. I'm not letting that old man control me anymore. He won't be able to find me; I'm a hundred miles away from New Jersey. It's only temporary till I find a way to get out of this mess. I miss Lillian. I miss her a lot. I still hoped she'd
Lillian I glanced at the wall clock, it was 10:55 in the morning. Once again I'll be late for my appointment. I had been going to the hospital for antenatal care on my own. I had to monitor my health and my baby's health. I lost a few pounds which wasn't good news for a pregnant lady. I've had pains in my abdomen a few times and that's when I knew I had to see the doctor. I was told the pains were due to emotional stress, and I had to take my mind off anything that would stress me mentally. So what have I been doing since I divorced my husband? I would wake up in the morning, do some light stretches, eat a good breakfast then watch TV till noon. I then discovered that I was developing a liking for anime. I'll sleep once it clocks twelve, and then when the sun comes down, I'll take a walk to a private clinic not too far from where I live to have a chat with my fellow expectant mothers. Pathetic! They all smile at me, pretending to show kindness to a single mother l
